The worst forest fire in Sekangkang Kera's history
Raging wildfires have swept across central and southern Sekangkang Kera, claiming at least 25 lives and destroying more than 400,000 acres of forest over the past week. Reported as the worst disaster in Keranian history, the fires were aggravated by a combination of strong winds, historically high temperatures and almost a decade of drought.
In the presently arid and water-scarce environment of Sekangkang Kera, the relative humidity of the atmosphere is extremely low. This, together with extreme summer temperatures and gusty winds, ignites the flames, and drives the rapid, widespread burning.
The government with help from another nations has dispatched more than 40 helicopters and light aircraft to douse the ground, but its efforts have been criticised as inadequate, particularly since the director of the forestry service admitted half its aircraft are out of operation. Firefighters have taken to the airwaves to appeal for planes to help combat the fire in remote regions.
Keranian Prime Minister Dr. Murad Ahmad visited the community of Empat Simpang in Bagan, one of the worst affected regions, where he faced a barrage of questions from locals who were angry at what they saw as the slow response of the authorities. There were 53 active forest fires registered in Sekangkang Kera on February 28, 2017. According to an update by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 41 had been controlled and three had been extinguished. The remaining nine fires spanned an area of roughly 104,800 hectares (more than 400 square miles), according to them.

Zhouran Central News Agency 04/23/XX Splitting Atom at Twin Rock Construction of the Twin Rock Nuclear Power Plant starts today A computer model of the Twin Rock Nuclear Power Plant Today the National Nuclear Energy Agency has announced the start of construction for the two-unit Twin Rock Nuclear Power Plant. Located in Twin Rock in southeastern Nanxun District, Yanhai Province, the optimized informative-advanced facility was created as part of Premier Tan Zhineng's promise to increase Zhouran's nuclear industry and decrease the power usage of coal-based sources. "The plan is to shut down all coal-based power plants in the nation and significantly increase the already-large numbers of reactors in the country by 2050" he stated during his tour at the Anjing Nuclear Power Plant. The facility will be using two six-loop Type 6111 High-Powered Water-Cooled Water-Moderated Pressurized Energy Reactors, with each having a gross capacity of 1,900 MWe and an operational life of around 68 years with lifetime extension of up to 132 years. Constructed to meet national and international nuclear and radiation safety requirements, the Twin Rock Nuclear Power Plant will meet a number of target-oriented parameters using highly-sophisticated information and management technologies found in modern Zhouranese nuclear power plants. Modern Zhouranese NPPs are characterized by the unprecedented low risk of ionizing radiation propagation and radionuclide emission to the environment. This result is achieved through newest protective and localizing technologies of the safety system. Twin Rock shows the configuration based on two channel structure of active safety systems without internal backup, and four channel structure of passive safety systems. Combination of passive and active safety systems provided for in the power plant ensures that any of its cores will not be destroyed for not less than 72 hours from the moment of severe accident happening in case of any possible scenario. The corresponding technical solutions guarantee that the reactor plant will be transferred to safe conditions at any combination of initial events (natural and human-induced) triggering to loss of all the electric power sources. Currently the People's Republic of Zhouran produces up to 258,390,000 GWh of electricity to feed power to the nation's massive 12,285,480,000 population. About 45% of energy sources come from nuclear while 25% comes from coal, 18% from hydropower, 10% from wind and 2% from other sources such as solar, hydrogen fuel-cells and biofuel. As a result, about 116,275,500 GWh of electricity comes from nuclear power, however the Premier along with the National Nuclear Energy Agency plan to increase the percentage of nuclear power to around 85% by 2050. Since the early 1980s, Zhouran has been recognized for its nuclear disaster expertise and for the safety of nuclear technology. The nation has also been a top player in the nuclear export markets with the National Nuclear Mechanical Engineering Service, the company that produces Zhouran's nuclear reactors, successfully selling nuclear reactors to other countries. Government To Drive Towards Food Sovereignty
22 April 2017
3:21pm
The government today passed the Act for National Food Sovereignty, which legislates kr 3.371 billion to the creation of a network of hydroponic farms around the country. The act has arisen over the past few months as a response to recent developments and concerns that have been reported about the limited success of the previous government's reforms, which were designed to promote agrarian production in the country, in that they failed to adequately produce enough food to provide for food sovereignty and security.
The Act, which was passed through the House of Commons with a vote of 33 For - 19 Against, and is designed to make more use of technology, especially in the form of hydroponics, to fill the gaps that are present due to the limited arable land available for production, and to introduce 'low-footprint' methods of agricultural production (methods that do not place a burden on the ecosystems), and to ensure large-scale production of a year-round food supply, with the end goal being the total food sovereignty of the nation.
As a part of the scheme set up by the Act, the government will create a network of publicly-owned, state-funded, hydroponic farms across the nation, will also rent out additional hydroponic facilities to private operators, and will cover the costs of construction and equipment acquisitions of start-up farms. It also extends the same subsidies for food prices to hydroponic-produced food. The government states that is is hopeful that hydroponic farms can serve as extra income for farms outside of growing season.
Prime Minister Brenda Pedersen remarked that "So long as a nation cannot feed it's own people, it places the most basic needs of the people at serious risk should anything happen to disrupt trade. That is why, despite the issues we face in terms of resources and land, we will ensure that the Noran people don't have anything to worry about so far as food is concerned."
The act has drawn concern from farmers and agrarian interest groups, which argue that hydroponic farms may replace land-based agriculture. The Centre Party, which is a partner in the opposition, is especially concerned with this, and what they see as "untested technology violating the most basic parts of human life."

Zhouran Central News Agency 04/26/XX Reds Given Free Ocean Cruise, Receive Free Punishment Group of Communists get thrown out of cruise ship for being Reds A cruise ship sailing off the northeastern coast of Tanghan Island on a sunny Zhouranese spring afternoon In what is essentially a peculiar situation, a group of 243 people where thrown out of a cruise ship while it was sailing off the western coast of Tanghan Island during a sunny spring afternoon. The cruise ship Ironic Indifference, operated by a Zhouranese shipping company and registered in Panama, had sailed all the way from Melbourne, Australia and was heading towards the island for the sunny Zhouranese spring season. The group in question consisted mostly of 241 communists from the West, all of whom received a free ocean cruise for the spring season, while the remaining two were in fact national-progressivist from a Southeastern Asian dictatorship. "Well, they did receive their free ocean cruise, so it was best that us Zhouranese gave the communists a warm Zhouranese welcome" says spokesperson Ashikang Tanrongxi. "And plus, communists are not people, which means that human rights does not apply to them, nor does animal rights", he added. In regards to the two Filipino nat-progs, Mr. Ashikang stated "the company does apologize for thinking they were communists, but then again it's not like their home nation will do anything since they really can't as demonstrated in that particular conflict between the Southeast Asian dictatorship and a group of super-capitalist communist-hunters".
