by America-1960s
I'm sure the large majority of people in this forum know what my nation was doing during that decade, but for the more original nations, provided they existed during the decade, what were they doing during this time? Were there any notable events that are worth mentioning? Some sort of achievement? Any information is valuable and fun to read.

Kaywell was a very different place during the Earth year 1960. Back then, Kaywell was still a superpower, but only an intraplanetary one; it shared Uingffh with a handful of other nations, was yet to achieve space travel, and was still in the process of modernizing.
More notably, Kaywell was a lot more progressive. During the 1960s, the Kingdom was in the process of implementing and enforcing a number of progressive policies such as same-sex marriage rights and religious freedom. In addition, the Kingdom was steadily democratizing, with its nascent elected parliament gaining more power over the royal family and the Kaywellian people getting a greater say in Kaywellian politics.

While we are neither a nation nor even existed during the 1960s, precursor organizations such as Invariance and the Situationist International were around at the time participating in the social upheavals of the late 1960s, most notably May '68 in France.

The 1960s is known as the time of the Great Shift. The balance of world economies was broken. New ones rose to take its place, although weaker in power, less just and more corrupt than those who had come before. The Commonwealth being a small and neutral player on the world stage was little effected, providing its goods in trade and commerce to the new players. The rival leagues of the Tibetan Combine and Congolese Syndicate rose to indominable status that they have today. In the 2020s, They are the worlds leaders in cybertech and personal bioware.

The Central European Union, a world power since the 1820s fell into astonishing ruin. Millions emigrated to other countries around the world including the Commonwealth. The remaining institutions and politicians are a shadow of their former selves. The Andean States Alliance (ascendant after the Great War of 1917) and headquartered in Lima fell into a 20 year multi-faction civil war that brought war to the entirety of South America by the 1980s. Since the 2000s it is slowly recovering as the various states form into different trade alliances. New Holland (a collection of states and cities in South East Asia focused on Sydney) is still, well, New Holland.

For Citizens of the Commonwealth it was a time of new discoveries and societal growth. E-fluxion [tm] fusion power was refined, miniaturized to a great degree, and successfully federated out to local communities for their own self-sufficiency, thus freeing the Commonwealth from the dangers of having to rely on a centralized electrical grid. The cost of electricity dropped to millicents per megajoule. Modern Classical Liberalism of Evangelical Christianity derived from the Scottish Enlightenment remains the driving factor of Commonwealth civilization in thought and practice.

The Good.
Flip-phones (the size of a brick) started appearing everywhere. Cassette tapes gave way to smaller digital music cartridges containing dozens of songs. Jetpacks were a fad. The pocket computer which began development in the 1930s, had come of age. Wang and Ashton-Tate became the world leaders in tech-wear for home and office. IBM perfected voice recognition technology, NAI (near-artificial intelligence), and began integrating personalities into their ubiquitous PDA (Personal Digital Assistants -- a form of tablet/data-pad). Portable phones remain a separate device from data-pads (which are integrating cameras to varying degrees of success and failure) during this decade.

People of the Commonwealth had become so opulent that of the poor, (the lowest 20%) over 2/3 of could afford personal yachts, private planes, satellite communications devices and personal computers should they choose to do so. Narlandren started becoming world travellers and learning to become their own journalists. Several cabals of nearly 200 scientist (Eugenicists and so-called Ethical Biologist) were executed or given life sentences without parole for their crimes against children.

The Bad.
The Border War with the Deseret Combine and the Rocky Mountain Republic cost 12,000 lives, and ended up with territorial expansion that the Commonwealth did not want. The discovery of several thousand children malformed from unlawful genetic modification techniques in the Allemenery brought the country to a crisis. The rise and fall of militant Atheistic Secularist Humanism (Yippies) and subsequent bohemian terrorist groups cost several hundred lives. Fallout from nuclear war between the Manchuko Republic and the Han Alliance contaminate large swathes of Commonwealth farm and cropland. There is a 15 fold increase in cancer for those living in affected areas. A prominent Christian denomination is swayed within to extremes of legalism on the one hand and antinomianism on the other, causing a caustic and deleterious split.

The Ugly
Commonwealth agriculture, manufactured goods, bad English, musical taste, and aspects of its culture are exported to the world. A new and enthusiastic generation of missionaries, merchants, educators and professionals flood the world seeking to make it a better place. Wandering (sometimes clueless) Narlandren become so ubiquitous that it creates a dichotomous stereotype on other nations that persists to this day -- the extremely lucky, usually clueless, well-intentioned goof or the empathetic but pragmatic stately philosopher/merchant. If there is an international incident chances are a wandering Narlander can be found nearby. Because of Narland's history and its notions of fair-play, other nations for good or ill seek out our Statesmen to settle their disputes. The International Moonbase, of which the Commonwealth of Narland is a participant experiences catastrophic failure -- all 32 lunanauts are lost including 1 Narlander. Death by jet-pack was a thing.

We were established because China invaded our legal predecessor, the State of Assam, and we are endeavouring to remove PLA troops from our land.

The 1960s is known as the "Interbellum Decade" in Tangatarehua, as it represented a decade in which the country was at peace, following the negotiated end of the Polynesian War and prior to the start of the devastating South Pacific War in 1973.

During the period, the country was under the rule of the Tangatarehua Imperial Rule Association, a fascist military junta although at the time the government took a vocally anti-communist stance in order to appease the western powers who (rightly) treated fascist Tangatarehua with considerable suspicion.

The decade was stable and the economy was quite strong (possibly due to Tangatarehua leaning more toward the capitalist west than the communist east), with almost all of the nation's wealth quietly put toward strengthening the nation's military as the junta's ambitions to create a Pan-Polynesian Empire was far from thwarted.

Notably, in 1969 Empress Awhinatia te hunga rawakore ascended to the Pounamu Throne; a decade later she would go on to overthrow the fascists and write the nation's current democratic and pacifist constitution.

During the 1960s South Africa was involved in the Vietnam War in which it backed Central Vietnam (Officially the Vietnamese State; French : État vietnamien , Afrikaans: Viëtnamese staat , Vietnamese : Nhà nước Việt Nam) .

History of Central Vietnam

Central Vietnam was formed in the 1954 Geneva Conference by the South Africans after the end of the First Indochina War in which Pro British militias backed by South Africa also known as the người Anh Forces fought against both Communist and French Forces

The United States and Soviet Union hoped in by giving a third superpower the South Africans Central Vietnam , They wouldn't risk a South African backed settler regime decimating the population like what was seen Korea a few years back after the South African Backed Central Korean Goverment lead by Louis Beel won the war and ordered Native Koreans into Korean Residential Schools to be forced into Afrikaner Society , thus despite South Africa getting what they want , this time they were explicitly told to only install a local leader to prevent a similar situation in Vietnam

Things were peaceful until 1964 in the same year Apartheid ended and the ANC and uMkhonto we Sizwe became legalized

On February 12 , 1964 an uMkhonto we Sizwe solider under orders from an SADF Military General shot up a school in Saigon leading to South Vietnam declaring war on South Africa escalating the Vietnam War

The Giáp Vorster Pact was signed on February 24 1964 and on Febuary 25 , North Vietnamese and Central Vietnamese troops bombarded Laos and Cambodia in an attempt to force them to support the invasion of Saigon for which they accepted

However the Peoples Republic of China , a long time South African Ally since 1949 refused to join the war because they saw the North Vietnamese Goverment as nothing more than a Soviet Backed State and thus refused to helped unless North Vietnam was wiped off the map .

When Verwoerd was assassinated in 1966 by Dimitri Tsafendas a CIA backed spy , He was replaced by Deputy Prime Minister Raul Manglapus . Unlike Verwoerd , Manglaplus hated the North Vietnamese and with his approval , China and South Africa launched a dual invasion of North Vietnam forcing Ho Chi Minh to stand trial for treason as well as approving Chinese Military Bases and South African Bases all over North Vietnam

This Resulted in Ngo Dinh Diem , the President of South Vietnam to request a joint Soviet American Peacekeeping Force to drive out the South Africans and the Chinese

The Vietnam War ended in 1967 with the 2 Vietnams being divided within the 38th parallel . because North Vietnam de facto ceased to exist in 1967 , Central Vietnam became it's de facto successor and in violation of the 1954 treaty with Roelof Nelissen as the leader of Central Vietnam in Hanoi . Despite an armistice agreement being signed in 1968 , the two sides are technically still at war today

Other Events that happened in the Bokian 1960s

In 1961 , to counter Sarawakian influence , Then President Carlos P. Garcia organized ratlines for former Imperial Japanese Officers and members of Unit 731

John Fitzgerald Kennedy survives an assassination attempt against him in November 22 1963

Future Prime Minister of Jamesian Chechenya , Rand Paul is born in Capitol City on January 7, 1963

Hard to tell considering the inconsistent nature of time in relation to the Mortal World. A good rule of thumb however is to default to, the four "S"s that define Infernal society. Spying, Seduction, Sorcery, and Slaughter. Chances are good whatever's going on in Hell involves one (but likely more) of those.

Sadly, there was a lot of racism in the 1960s, in addition, there was objectification of women and drugs.
On a more positive note:
There was increased public and official opposition to antisemitism, the voting age was lowered from 21 to 17 and inciting hatred to a racial group was criminalised (previously laws only criminalised inciting hatred on the grounds of adhering to a certain Abrahamic religion or on the grounds of class).

Unfortunately, that was still 10 years before our reunification.

In 1962, following the New Economic Policy done by Nikola Lieblein, the Left Militarism in the North Aquaria ended. We stopped infinitely spending our budget on the military for countering the South (gosh, that was 89% in 1958), but instead spend more effort to improve our worsening economic situation. We received much economic and development support from the Warsaw Pact, France, Sweden and the United States, and effectively used our oil profit during the Oil Crisis, which caused the Miracle of Kolszon River in the late 60s.

In 1966, we successfully bombed a nuclear bomb on a Pacific uninhabited island named Katarina Island, which marked our great success in military technology and is a true threat to the Southerners' reactionary and fascist rule.

But mostly, we were just acting like an average European socialist country, except that our political system is quite similar to what Dubček tried to achieve.

During the 1960s, Crossoveria was thriving to some degree. The economy was getting better, but political freedoms and human rights were abysmal. The Supreme Leader was still Kais Al Abidine Baldemore, who lead a revolution the decade prior. During this decade, he criticized the White Revolution reforms in nearby Iran but formed friendly relations with countries like the United Arab Republic, and helped form the Non Aligned Movement. Meanwhile, the people begin to have free and universal healthcare, education, housing, and electricity. Basically, Crossoveria in the 1960’s was thriving economically and turning into a welfare state, while its Supreme Leader conducts a solid foreign policy.
