First informally adopted nearly two thousand years ago as a maritime flag by the then still seaborne merfolk refugees who constituted the ancestors of the current Free Fleet, the banner that has become known as the Observant Journey has weathered countless generational, political, and technological changes to become an enduring symbol of the nomadic peoples of Serdequre.
Production of the flag is not particularly well-regulated, and many ships within the fleet fly variations, but the unofficial standard contains all of the following elements: a field of green sheen interrupted by a golden brown stripe (commonly referred to as 'the path') crossing into a complex horizon of medium champagne and ecru in the upper hoist, immediately below which lies a charge representing at least one eye of the typically seven-eyed merfolk, itself of golden brown, medium champagne, and ecru.
There can be no doubt as to the versatility and continuing resonance of the ancient banner with its fliers, who still see themselves as continuing the uncharted journey of their predecessors with (at least) one eye always open.
