The Carminian population is highly educated, scoring well in global indexes of literacy, numeracy, and scientific understanding. More than 60% of children follow up their mandatory education with higher education, at one of the world-renowned institutions based in the country, such as Amaranth Academy.

Public education represents one of the few areas of significant public spending in Carmini, besides the military and police forces. This began in the 1950s during the Carminian Enlightenment, when it became apparent that the country needed an educated populace to compete successfully in the modern world - particularly as heavy industry and significant agriculture could not be supported on the small, crowded island.

As such, public education is available for free to all Carminians from the ages of 5 to 18, with bursaries available to less affluent families for further education. Given the affluent nature of much of the population in the present day, however, many choose to send their children to private schools, or recruit private tutors.

The curriculum for primary (ages 5 to 11) and secondary (ages 12 to 18) school children is the responsibility of the Council of Regents, under the supervision of the monarchy. They have established the Board of Education for this purpose, which reviews the latest schooling techniques and knowledge bases to establish an evidence-based teaching method. This is reviewed bi-annually, and adjustments made accordingly. The result is a robust, efficient, and generally high-quality scholastic system. Mathematics, literature, the sciences, physical education, religious education (learning about other faiths objectively, rather than indoctrinating students into faiths), geography, history, and at least one foreign language are all required subjects for Carminian students.
