What is a defining event in YN's history?

by The Coordination of the Motile Galaxy
From the Storming of the Bastille in France to the Apollo 11 moon landing, some events in history carry national or even international significance that defines the national character of a state. They could be events that invoke national pride, or for which the sheer mention of them sends shivers down the spine. What are some events that shaped and defined your nation in some way?

In the Coordination, the biggest events are commemorated by the declaration of new iterations of the nation, and of new eras of the Coordinated Standard Calendar.

The first such event was the Great Losses. It is unknown whether this was a cumulative defect in computer science, a loss of the physical memory systems of computers, or a deliberate virus that corrupted the memory of the systems, but regardless, this event caused massive damage to the entire nation, at the time known as the Idibulean Empire, and rendered all information prior to the event completely lost. The Idibuleans relied too heavily on computer systems, meaning that the information would likely never be recovered. After the Great Losses came a 960 year anarchy, where various successor states to the Empire tried to take it for themselves. This anarchy ended with the formation of the Coordinator High Council, which originated as an advisory council for the Emperor, and the wholesale adoption of biotechnology in place of mechanical computers.
While at war with the Va'zok State, the weakness and inefficiency of the Emperor was finally recognised as incompatible with victory by the Coordinator High Council. Millions of years as advisors to the hereditary monarch had left many opportunities not taken, and as the Va'zok began their full-scale invasion of Coordinator space, the High Council recognised that the Emperor was more costly than beneficial. It took a full year for the coup to succeed, with the planet of Idibulee-Prime itself being contested, and civil war breaking out throughout Coordinator space. However so much power had already been dedicated to the Coordinators that their victory was all but assured, and with the siege and storming of the Imperial Palace by Coordinator ground forces, final victory was achieved. This began the Second Coordinated Era, and founded the Second Coordination of Ekimi.
The entire span of the Third Coordinated Era, for 25,433,798 years, had been spent trying to see how ownership of the galaxy could be turned to control of the galaxy. The Coordination had developed what they called Nebular Engineering, a field of science allowing the precise movement of planets, stars and even star systems by the Mid Third Era. The greatest achievement that the Nebular Engineers of the Coordinator High Council hoped to achieve was the manipulation of the pre-Coordination superstructure known as the Great Black Hole Sphere, which was a large sphere built around the Eye of Ekimi, the supermassive black hole at the centre of Ekimi that had kept the entire galaxy from moving as a normal galaxy should. The culmination of their efforts was the First Galactic Conjunction. The sphere was powered up, a process that took 3,000 years in all to complete, and the entire galaxy was shifted by thirty light years - a small-scale proof of concept, to be sure, but one which nevertheless proved the concept - the Coordination now controlled the galaxy. The success of this event marked the transition to the Fourth Galactic Coordination.

Probably the most noteworthy events within the history of Hallownest was the two outbreaks of the Infection.

The infection is a parasite which infects the brain of its host and essentially causes them to be a mindless zombie. This occurs due to the Radiance, an ancient religious figure, would manifest in the minds of people who had forgotten her, and then cause them to be infected when they resisted. The first time this occurred was when the nation was most prosperous. This prompted the Pale King (ruler over Hallownest at the time) to create a vessel (a child of his) which had no mind or will to be corrupted and then trap the Radiance in it. This vessel would be called the Hollow Knight and would spell the end to the Infection's first wave.

The second wave of the Infection was caused when it became apparent that the Hollow Knight was not pure, and the Radiance was once again able to cause havoc. This time, however, the Pale King vanished alongside his palace, and Hallownest crumbled as a result. The infection was only stopped for good when the Knight, who was one of the Pale King's discarded children on the road to the creation of the Hollow Knight, would wonder into Hallownest, free the Hollow Knight, and kill the Radiance for good. Due to the devastation the infection caused, anarchy soon rose and made the nation we know today.

A turining point in Crossoveria's history is the Crossoverian Revolution, which toppled a feudal monarchy and replaced it with a modern-day "republic" with the ideology of Welayat Il-Aman. The Revolution occurred in 1954 after many many years of autocratic rule of the monarchy, led by Beowulf II at the time of the Revolution. The king was corrupt and narcissistic who persided over a backwards country while the rest of the world outpaces economically. While the previous kings introduced some reforms to turn Crossoveria an industrial country, wages were low and the people still lived in adject poverty. That's when protests began to happen against the king, and when crackdowns began to happen, the protests grew, demanding the end of the regime and the beginning of a democratic republic. Beowulf II, seeing that the situation was hostile and his throne being threatened, fled the country through voluntary exile. A new government was set up, with formely exiled opposition leader Kais Al Abidine Baldemore as its first Supreme Leader.

The most defining event in Soviet history is, of course, the Great October Socialist Revolution. On November 7, 1917 EY (October 25 in the Julian Calendar), masses of people, mostly Bolsheviks but also Left SRs, disillusioned socialists, and the Red Guards among others, stormed the Winter Palace in Petrograd (modern Leningrad) and proclaimed a socialist revolution in Russia. The event led to the Russian Civil War and the establishment of the Soviet Union.

Recent historical events of the nation:
"Revolution of the Altars" during the years from 1996 to 2008, is the beginning of the socialist struggle in our nation.
"The anarcho-capitalist dictatorship by the Ziel Gates family" during the years from 1974 to 1998, due to privatization and oppression in a government favorable to an oligarchy.

After the Battle of Frankfurt the Ludwigsburger army was in control of a key supply point. This lead to a push into the broken German Democratic lines. This allowed the Ludwiger army to allow air attacks on major supply depots since they captured a key airfield. After this the Ludwiger army requested aid from their neighbour France to supply fighters. This allowed us to get air superiority and fully take the Ruhr. The Ruhr was the main supply area in Germany which led the GDR Army to starve due to low supply. After this, the Chancellor Freud Holstmann, the Father of our nation signed peace with the newly elected Johannes Furt.

The most defining event in Northern Eurasian history is also the least known. Unofficially called the Liberation of Earth, it was a battle that took place between the Northern Eurasian People's Navy and an unknown hostile alien race (known unofficially as the omicronians). The omicronians are the reason NEPN starships retain their distinctive "oceangoing battleship in space" design (think space battleship yamato. The navy's first starships were built to look like and function as oceangoing warships so the omicronians would not realize a fleet was being built to destroy them.), and omicronian technology was subsequently used to upgrade Northern Eurasia's own. This event is currently completely classified for a variety of reasons, and an enormous misinformation campaign along with large scale use of amnestic drugs and therapy helped keep it under wraps until the time is right.

by Syndic Australia
A major defining period in the Commonwealth's History was the Great War (1914 - 1920), which directly lead to the 1923 Revolution.

Australia entered the war as a loyal subject of Great Britain, eager to fight for King and Country, blissfully unaware of the bloody reality of modern warfare that was to unfold over the next six years.

The effects of the dismal and bloody Great War on the Australic national consciousness were immeasurable. Shattered forever was the fragile sense of imperialist fraternity that the Australic had only a few years ago presumed with their colonial overlords; the countless needless and pointless casualties of loyal Australians under their command, like lambs to the slaughter, were but one instance in a continuum of imperialist exploitation beginning with Cook's landing at Botany Bay. The soldiers that returned home found themselves bereft of the honors and pensions promised to them for their service to the Empire, as too did the families of those lost to bloody war. Those workers who had been under the taskmaster to support the war effort and had their rights limited saw none returned nor their labors lessened. In its pyrrhic defence of the status quo the Empire, as all, had lost - and this hit none harder than those it deemed most expendable, a fetid heart abandoning its extremities to necrosis.

Prime Minister Billy Hughes and his Nationalist breakaways had turned from controversial figures during the war to downright pariahs in the aftermath for their political thuggery and stubborn grasp on power. The conscription order that sent many to their graves on the other side of the earth was signed by his hand in the face of mass union-led protest, and his original denouncement as a turncoat traitor by the Labor-left came to be considered well founded as he soon came to betray many with his postwar austerity and crackdown on speech and demonstration. His government had narrowly survived the 1919 election on the fading fumes of jingoism - a vicious sunk-cost fallacy - but with the war ended the writing on the wall spelt the end of the Nationalists' lunge for power.

Horrific military blunders, such as the Gallipoli campaign and the many bloody offensives of the Western Front saw public opinion turn bitter towards those who would so carelessly dash Australic men on the ramparts of the enemy. At home, the increasingly authoritarian Hughes government, which had just narrowly survived a party split between Hughes' Nationalist faction and the Labor Party, had begun heavily suppressing dissent, which was mounting in the face of Hughes' attacks on workers' rights and enforcement of conscription.

The Nationalist government narrowly survived the 1922 election through a coalition deal with the Country Party, on the condition of Hughes's personal resignation in favour of party treasurer Stanley Bruce. However, rather than reduce wartime restrictions and provide the promised pensions and property to returning veterans, Bruce instead kowtowed to incoming enterprise from Great Britain to try and secure short-term investment to kick start economic recovery, further suppressing rights in order to guarantee labor.

The already burgeoning militant workers' unions of the nation, chiefly the IWW, grew bolder in the face of increased efforts of suppression. They found new and valuable comrades in returning soldiers and their families, and with the assistance of some of these military sympathisers the stockpiling of weapons began in earnest. Non-white immigration was all but prohibited by law - namely the White Australia Policy - but the preliminary relationship between these disillusioned soldiers and the union wobblies was to smuggle in friends and lovers from the fronts - Turks, Irishmen, Scotts, Italians, Arabs, and Greeks chiefly. Just as the Eureka Stockade was born from the embers of the Liberal Chartist movements in Europe carried to the goldfields, so too would the flames of the coming Syndic Rebellion be lit with torches carried by Irish and Turkish Revolutionaries.

The desperate Federal Election of 1922 would be the point of no return, with an uprising now well and truly on the cards. This impending doom was foreseen by the Bruce government, who began upon both a legislative and coercive race to mitigate the risk; arrests, raids, and the odd extra-judicial 'shootout'. On the other side of the floor, the Labor Party was divided in their support and response to the impending scenario; with some making impassioned speeches and others maintaining strict silence. The most outspoken Ministers would even jump ship to the Industrial Socialist Party. Defectors, too, came to dislodge the precarious majority of the Bruce government in its final months, as it stood to lose a dozen members to the Liberal Commonwealth Party. Whatever the case, their opposition to the Nationalists at least delayed the rollout of the most severe countermeasures.

In late April of 1923, the Revolution had begun in earnest. A general strike had been declared for the week leading up to Labor Day and the government had issued the order for the military to put an end to it. In Melbourne first, but later in most cities, the army would prove decisively ineffective. Most soldiers refused to act against their friends, or unarmed men, or women and invalids, and many were already willing or intending to defect to the side of the strike. In Melbourne, Ballarat, Adelaide, and Perth, on May 1st, a new Syndicalist Republic was declared by a council of union leaders, Labor and Socialist MPs, soldiers, and local governance. The nation's railways and communication infrastructure were promptly seized, and the cities' workers took inspiration from the Independence War of the Irish some years prior and established city-wide Soviets to maintain order and resources.

The National government was caught off guard and sequestered away in Canberra. Once Sydney had too turned over to the Syndicalists the uprising was all but over - there would be no reprisal from Britannia, only a government in exile allotted a small room in Westminster for Bruce and his fellows before Westminster too met its end.

Trouble arose immediately, however, between the Syndicalist and their Labor allies, who sought to deeply reform the nation's structure of government, and the more radical Leninist Communists, who wished to dismantle the existing structure of government altogether. Especially in New South Wales, where Premier Jack Lang and his forces seemed just as primed to storm the Communists' headquarters as the Communists were to martyr themselves, tensions risked boiling over into civil conflict. Thankfully, in the end, the Communists acquiesced on condition of amnesty and some minor concessions - they just simply couldn't muster enough support for any sort of conflict, especially against a faction with the military on-side and with at the very least vaguely congruent intentions.

A New Republic
In the weeks following the Labor Day Coup, by-elections were held for every seat to replace the ousted Nationalists and establish a caretaker government. Of the 75 seats at the time in the House of Representatives, Labor held the most at 27; no Labor MP had been unseated, though some had defected, and several seats had been regained from unseated Nationalists. Labor and the Industrial Socialists had agreed not to run against each other. The Industrial Socialists held 27, 7 of which were taken from Nationalists, the others defectors from Labor. The Liberal Union salvaged 15 seats, and the Country Party claimed 17. The Senate returned a proportion favouring the Industrial Socialist and Country parties.

The first government of Syndic Australia was thusly formed by a coalition of Labor and Industrial Socialists and led by (the overall 9th) Prime Minister T.J. Ryan of Labor and Deputy Prime Minister Donald Grant of the Industrial Socialists.

[Spoiler=1923 - 1926]

The remainder of 1923 was spent by the new government drafting, in conjunction with the Syndics, a new iteration of the constitution. As much of the drafting had been deliberated in anticipation of Revolution, it took several prompt Constitutional Conventions of fine tuning to produce a constitution ready to be voted on by the populace in a series of referenda - all passed without issue. By Easter of 1924 the transition had begun, with the old Imperial Commonwealth now firmly a fixture of the past.

Ever the sibling of Australia, New Zealand soon followed suit in replacing its own Imperial government with a Syndic Republic. It participated in the Australian constitutional initiative with the intent of union, and the two officially united on Labor Day in 1924. Full integration, as with other novel constitutional changes, was not final until the 1926 Federal Election, which returned an even stronger majority coalition, in which Labor was only a single seat the senior partner due to the emergence and inclusion of new parties such as the Christian Social Democrats and the ANZAC Veterans' League.

In short, the aftermath of the Great War saw a major shift in Australic politics and society in most every way and is seen as the beginning of the modern era.

It can be argued that the Brazilian Civil War (1927-1928) was the defining moment in Brazilian history. On 3 October 1927, general Isidoro Dias Lopes organized a revolt against the oligarchical United States of Brazil. With the support of the navy and the Tenentistas - a group of young and angry army officers who wanted to reform the political system of Brazil - the rebellion spread like fire in a rainforest, and Dias Lopes quickly established control over the city of São Paulo, ousting the local government that was led by the Paulista Republican Party. By November, Brazil was divided into two warring states: the Democrats and the Loyalists.

The states of Paraíba, Rio Grande do Sul, and Rio de Janeiro were the leading forces of the Democrats, while São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Bahia were leading the Loyalists. The war lasted until mid-1928 when the capital of Minas Gerais - Belo Horizonte - was captured by the Democratic forces. The war, which killed an approximate number of 60,000 Brazilians, brought an end to the chaotic Coffee and Milk Republic (1894-1927), establishing the Populist Republic (1936-1964).

Thanks to those that gave their lives in the conflict, several important feats were achieved. In the first years after the end of the conflict: voting was made universal, secret ballots were adopted, women and Amerindians were granted political rights, several rights were granted to workers (such as paid leaves, unemployment insurance, 8-hours of work per day, etc.), education was made a right and not a privilege, and much more.

There are several defining moments as Tangatarehua has over 2000 years of history, however the most significant in recent memory would be December 7th 1979, when the Empress unilaterally announced the nation's surrender, ending the South Pacific War of 1973-1979 and ultimately ending a long period of military dictatorship.

It would definitely be the Turgen war (1812-1865) and fall of the Turgen Empire that greatly defined our history. after years of suffering from the multiple genocides and unethical practices caused by this empire and big and small rebel groups forming because of this, non could compare to the sheer power of the Turgens. but as we came about and fought greatly for the freedom and rights of the region, we were able to topple this Great, evil empire and secure our position in the region forever.

There are three key events in the history of the Federation that defined its modern existence. The first of these is the March on Rome in 1922, which saw the ascendence of Mussolini's National Fascist Party and the established of the first fascist state in Italy. The second was the Treaty of Paris, which turned over significant territories in Africa and the Middle East to Italy from Britain and France as concessions following the Second World War. The Third was the establishment of the Roman Federation itself, reorganising the Italian colonial empire into a federation of fascist states bound together by shared heritage, values and economic interests.

Ok, I will list 2 things here.

First is the conversion. This happened on July 7, 1920, when Christians converted pre-national and secular Nomayukian natives, when they got stranded in a storm and their boat-ship went all the way to the Kamchatka Peninsula. A year later, Nomayuki was founded, with a civilized society. Soon, the nation conquered the entirety of the peninsula by 1927.

Second is the Nuke of 1963. This happened in mid-1963, when the Soviets nuked the highly-populated city of Rotsushima, making Nomayuki's radiation high and many casualties around Nomayuki because of the nuke's, which happened to be the Tsar Bomba, direct impact, and also because of radiation-related diseases. All radiation was cleared out by Emergency Services by 1965, and everything was rebuilt by 1967. But the public opinion of the Soviet Union, which was already bad, got worse. Nomayuki, in the past, already conquered Khabarovsk Krai and Kamchatka Krai because of Soviet-caused actions. So, the government in Nanka, which had a high radiation because Rotsushima is located in the Kamchatka Peninsula - the same one as Nomayuki, decided that diplomatic action is no longer an option because the entirety of Nomayuki was affected. So, a war started, and Nomayuki managed to conquer many Soviet provinces, as far as Sverdlovsk, making Nomayuki as big as it is today. There were even some reports of entire divisions being just a few kilometers away from Moscow. The peace treaty was signed there, and there hasn't been any war between Nomayuki and the USSR ever again. For now...

The Terrapacisian Civil War, which lasted from December 1920 until April 1926, and resulted in the establishment of the modern Socialist Federation of Terrapacis following the victory of the Anarchist and Socialist faction in the war over the Loyalist and the Communist Factions.

The war broke out over a general uprising and strike led by the labour movement in response to the Dominion of Terrapacis suppressing the anti-war movement during World War I and members of radical left-wing movements in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution.

While the civil war originally began with a united labour movement vs the Dominion, it ultimately split into three factions as the communists had become inspired by the Bolsheviks and wished to establish a highly centralized socialist state with them leading as a vanguard party whereas the anarchists and socialists supported a decentralized society inspired by the writings of Peter Kropotkin and the ideologies of anarcho-communism and libertarian socialism.

by Northern Seleucia
The most defining moment in Northern Seleucia was certainly the 1863 Battle of Washington, the nation's capital. During the seven year civil war, from 1860 to 1867, certain provinces seceded to form a syndicalist state. The Syndicalist forces entered Washington, the nation's capital, early in the morning. During this time, much of the administration was evacuated, but the President stayed behind alongside the only units in Washington - the 3rd Infantry Regiment, nicknamed the Old Guard. The battle was fierce urban warfare that lasted 15 days, but the Northern Seleucian flag was still waving. This turned the tide of the war and the federal government steamrolled the syndicalists, culminating in the 1867 Battle of Upper Volta.

May be the General Macià's coup in 1926 supported by Marshall Joffre. As it mean the fall of the Berenguer profascist Dictatorship and the fall Alfons VIIIth monarchy that sponsored it. With it, followed the 1926 democratic elections won by the Republican parties, and the 4th Republic's proclamation. Probably the capture of the Grand Ekallum by the Midnight Revolution in 1574. It had been preceded by two years of civil war, in which the Revolution took a lot of territory and built up support within those territories by making sure they were appropriately supplied and treated with dignity. The assault on the Grand Ekallum took days, but by the time it was done, the royal family had been ousted and the Revolution had secured its last foothold. Soon after the capture, the Shepherd’s Charter was written up, and the current state of affairs for Kathen was put in place.

Red July Revolution, It was a revolution that occurred on July 10 2018. In the morning, demonstrators and military groups stormed the presidential palace and several government buildings to overthrow the Minecraftnesian government, there was a clash between the military supporting the demonstrators and the Minecraftnesian military, fortunately the number of Minecraftnesian troops was less so the demonstrators with easily take control of the capital and overthrow the government. The president and government officials were executed, this incident also happened in big cities in Domasia. After that the revolution leader, Souyama Fuada, proclaimed the People's Republic of Domasia, but in the late afternoon of the same day, one of the Domasia Provinces, Mitzukoori, declared its independence from Domasia.

On July 12, 2018, the Domasia Military attacked Mitzukoori with the intention of returning Mitzukoori to Domasia's hands, this military operation lasted for 1 month and succeeded in making Mitzukoori back into Domasia Province, but there were still armed groups who tried to free Mitzukoori, but they were annihilated in 2019.

As a result of this revolution, many countries cut off diplomatic relations with Domasia plus the post-revolutionary state conditions were quite severe and in the end the government decided to isolate themselves from the world to fix everything, the isolation policy finally ended on September 15, 2021.

The defining moment in the history of the Republic of Drakonaris was the declaration of the dragon age a speech given by the first General Secretary of the Draconian Socialist Party upon his ascension to the Premiership of the old Debslandian Republic. In this speech he layed out his vision for the future of a republic shaken out of its stupor and ready to arise to bring peace and equality to the world beneath the wings of our ever mighty dragons. A people driven once again not just by their personal aims but by a larger sense of duty to each other, and to the world. In the end his words prevailed and by a nearly unanimous majority the declaration of a new republic was passed though parliament marking the transformation from the Debslandian Republic of the past to the Democratic Republic of Drakonaris the nation we no know today. This momentous event is known in Drakonaris as the Glorious Revolution since like the revolution in old England this one was achieved without any bloodshed.

The Failed Revolution: 1671-1673, in which the people of Rhodevus declared independence, and through a 2-year long fight, lost their war due to multiple causes. While the Failed Revolution was indeed a failure of the Democratic States, it would form an important part of the mindset of an independent Rhodevus less than thirty years later. Its legacy would involve the establishment of the 'Triarchy System' between the English-speaking, French-speaking and Native Rhodeves. A system which is still in place to this day and lauded as one of the greatest successes in native-colonial relations in history. The failure would also develop into intense Rhodeve nationalism and a nation-wide 'failure-complex' which would lead to the quick rise and fall of the Rhodeve Colonial Empire.

The First Rhodeve Republic: 1701-1754, the Rhodeve Empire: 1754-1808, The 2nd Rhodeve Republic: 1808-1845, Due to feelings of inferiority brought upon by a failure in their national revolution (having won their independence diplomatically), the Rhodeve republic set about expanding with their own colonies in an attempt to rival the great powers of the world. This would eventually lead to the young country's quick rise to global super-powerdom as the international naval power, with colonies, protectorates and claimed land, as well as domination of global trade markets around the world.

The Rhodeve Collapse: 1840-1845, Through over-extension, internal and external pressures, colonies began revolting against the empire, multiple countries declared war on Rhodevus in an attempt to take over from the waning super-power. A five year long conflict which came to be known as the Rhodeve Collapse ensue, which saw the independence of over a dozen new countries and annexed territories, as well as financial collapse of the Republic, which lead to the start of the Rhodeve Monarchy.
