Number Plates in your nation

Postby Arpasia » Sun Dec 26, 2021 6:30 am

This thread's topic is about number plates! Specifically, how your nation issues number Plates.

The number plating system in Arpasia is consisted of a region/city in the front and a set of numbers in front of it.
For example: a car from Philippeaux might have
PHL 4A832

For every region:
North Coast: CDN (Côte du Nord)
Upper Sascony: HSÇ (Haute-Saçogne
Lower Sascony: BSÇ (Basse-Saçogne
Piquellon: PQN
Central Mountains: MGC (Montagnes Centrales)
Galatine: GLT
Galloiterre: GOT
Levant: LVT
Champlain: CHP
Rugerland: RGL
Philippeaux: PHL
Marcia: MRC
Pontchartrain: PTT

The most upper part of the plate is blue, with a small national flag in the left side and and the countries name occuping the rest of the blue line.
Then, occuping the bigger white part of the plate is the code, that's written in the format of four letters, a dash, and four numbers (for example: AAAA-0001). After, in the right side of the white part of the plate is a small province flage from where the car is from with its name written bellow, and them more bellow, a small city emblem or coat of arms and city name from where the car is from.

These codes are applied by each province Department of Motorized Vehicles, each of them using certain letters so that there will not be two vehicles with the same plate.

License plates in Gabré are nominally issued by the Ministry of Transport as part of registering a vehicle for use on the road. Gabré makes use of combination 'Local Government Offices' in towns and cities outside of the capital for many administration tasks including the registration of vehicles. Registrations are supposed to be renewed on an annual basis, however, enforcement is lax and many drivers fail to update their registration after acquiring a license plate in the first year.

License plates in Gabré follow the sizing layout of the Japanese plate due to many vehicles on the road coming from Asian nation-states as second hand imports. At the top of the plate is printed GABRÉ and on the left hand side the 1 or 2 character code for the state in which the vehicle was first registered. In the center of the plate two letters are followed by a dash and then two numbers.

Vehicle registration plates in Eurasia are required on all vehicles that are to be used on roads in Eurasia, managed by the Department of Road Infrastructure under the Ministry of Transportation.

Private non-commercial vehicles maintain their plates for life, are affixed only to the rear of the vehicle, and have variances in size depending on manufacturer.
Size 520x120mm - Eurasian, European, Indian design vehicles
Size 320x150mm - American, Chinese design vehicles
Size 440x220mm - Large Japanese design vehicles
Size 290x170mm - small Eurasian design, medium Japanese design, non-standard plate design vehicles
Size 230x125mm - motorcycles and small Japanese design vehicles
Private non-commercial plates are white with black Russian Cyrillic or Latin lettering and a black outline, with the text "EF" standing for Eurasian Federation in the top left corner, above the province code.
Electric vehicles with lengths shorter than 5m, and gasoline, diesel, and hydrogen vehicles with less than 1000cc displacement have a green vertical stripe over the last letter in the serial number, with the number painted white rather than black.
Plates follow the format XX00A-AAAA, A being any cyrillic letter, latin letter, or number, with the exception of Latin A, B, E, H, I, K, M, O, P, T, X, and Y due to their similarities to cyrillic letters or to the number 1, and Cyrillic Ы, which appears too similar to Ь and 1 together, Ё, which could be mistaken for Е, and Й which could be mistaken for И. XX denotes the province in cyrillic, 00A denotes the district code, and AAAA is the serial number.
As an example, ЧЯ46F-94Ж3 denotes Ostrava, Czechia Province southwest of the confluence of the Oder and Opava rivers.

Private commercial vehicles have standardized sizes without dependence on manufacturer. They are affixed to both the front and back of the vehicle, except on semi-trucks, on which the registration is a plate on the front, though is painted on the rear of the cab. Commercial vehicles re-register plates with each change of owners.
Size 520x120mm - Semi-truck front, rigid-frame trucks, buses, taxis
Size 320x150mm - Semi-trailers, passenger trailers
Size 290x170mm - Commercial cars, small trucks, passenger vans, cargo vans, pickup trucks, agricultural equipment, road-legal mining equipment, road-legal construction equipment
Plates are normally white with black lettering and a black outline, though trailers for carrying hazardous materials, and agricultural, construction and mining equipment have yellow backgrounds.
Commercial vehicles follow the format XX0000-A through XXAAAA-AAAA. XX is the province code in cyrillic writing, the first set of AAAA is the company's registered reporting mark with the provincial department of roads, and the second set is the serial number set by the registering entity. If the vehicle is owned by a person or by a company with no registered reporting mark, any of the reporting marks "0000", "9999", "0НГВ", or "НГВ0" is used, with the serial number set by the department of roads.

Government services (Such as police, fire service, ambulance and road maintenance) have specialized plates. Police plates are blue with white lettering and outline, and follow the format НП00-0000, НП standing for "Национальная Полиция", or National Police, 00 being the police district, and 0000 being the serial number assigned by the department. Provincial police departments use the same format, though with НП replaced with the provincial code. Fire service and ambulances both have red plates with white lettering and outline. Fire service plates follow the format XX-XXX-00, XX denoting the province, XXX denoting the service district, and 00 being a serial number. Ambulance plates follow the format XX-000-000, XX denoting the province, the first set 000 being the hospital or ambulance company, and the final set 000 being the serial number. Road maintenance has the same plates as private non-commercial vehicles, though with a yellow vertical stripe on the province code. Military vehicles have black plates with white lettering and no outline, and follow the format XXX-0000, XXX being the code for the military base, and 0000 being the serial number.

License plates in the Democratic Republic are issued by the Ministry of Transport and are mandatory on all motor vehicles, with both front and rear plates being required by law.

All plates are 330 x 160 mm in size and are light blue with black letters and numerals.

Plates follow the format of ###-XXXXXX, with the '#' being numerals and the 'X' being an alphanumeric character. The first two numerals is a number from 1 to 9 which represents the administrative division that the vehicle was registered in, the next two numbers are the last two numbers of the year the vehicle was originally registered, and the six alphanumeric characters are simply randomly generated.

The administrative division codes are as follows:
  • 1 - Freena Yon
  • 2 - Gandoor City Capital District
  • 3 - Hegmon Yon
  • 4 - Icpo Yon
  • 5 - Juon Yon
  • 6 - Osaka Yon
  • 7 - Southside Yon
  • 8 - Yanot Yon
  • 9 - Yontan Yon
In addition, license plates registered to civilian vehicles have 'Registered Vehicle' at the bottom, government plates have 'Government Vehicle', and military plates have 'Military Vehicle'.

Numbered licence plates in the NAU are somewhat standardised per the Interprovincial Compact on Vehicle Identification Number Plates Standardisation 1975.

There are several types of vehicles that must have a vehicle type indicated on the plate as well as plate and number/letter colour:
- PV (private or personal use); yellow plate with black letters and numbers
- CM (commercial such as a company vehicle or small goods vehicles) or CMP (commercial and private as in self-employed); white plate with blue letters/numbers
- RT (rental or for-hire car); green plate with black letters/numbers
- GV or GGV (local/provincial government or general government); red plate with white numbers/letters
- DP (foreign diplomatic vehicle as in legation or consular cars); white plate with red numbers/letters
- TX or BS (taxis or busses); white plate with blue numbers/letters
- LGV (large goods vehicle or trailers); orange plate with black letters/numbers
- DS (disabled drivers or vehicles driven on behalf of disabled persons); red plate with yellow numbers/plates
- NAFV or PFV (North American Forces Vehicle, used domestically; Provincial Forces Vehicle, used domestically)

Provincial flags and provincial initialisms are used on the far left side of the plate (with the initialism below the flag) with the numbers and letters taking up the rest of the plate. Diplomatic plates and the viceregal car are excepted from displaying a province but diplomatic plates must indicate the country initialism. The viceregal car just displays the Crown but with the same plate and number/letter colors as GGV, as in a red plate with a white crown.

There are three numbers on the left side of the Vehicle Numerical Code that are used for the code of the local administration area that the car was registered, usually the county DVLA office, and three or four numbers on the right with the date of expiration (month and year) of the car registration until the licence is renewed. No space or a hyphen between the Vehicle Type Code (above) and the Vehicle Numerical Code (the six or seven numbers indicated on the plate) are used and the usage of the two types varies by province.

Vanity or personalised plates are allowed for replacing the VNC with an alpha-numeric Personal Vehicle Registration Code, subject to provincial DVLA approval and registration fee payments.

Example: TXNM PV-100322 (the personal car (PV) as registered in Christmas County, Province of Texas and New Mexico (100, TXNM) and the registration will expire on March (3), 2022 (22)).

Civilian plates in Serrania consist of a three black letters and four black numbers on a white background. On the left hand side is a narrow blue band (narrower than represented below) with the coat of arms in it from the flag (represented by a simplified crown below).

*ABC 1234*

Note: some letter combinations are reserved (such as REY/REI for the King/Queen; GOV for official ministerial vehicles; DIP for diplomatic vehicles) and some letter combinations are not used due to similarities to obscenities, swear words, or banned organisations.

Military vehicles have plates with two white or silver letters and four white or silver numbers on a black background and no blue stripe.

*AB 1234*

Emergency service vehicle plates have the same layout as civilian plates but with black lettering turned red once assigned to an emergency vehicle.

There are less than a dozen cars in Alzatia, all of them owned by members of the Princely Household, so there aren't any vehicle registration laws. However, license plates do exist, although they're only put on for foreign state visits and trips. The design is golden text on a black background, consisting of "ELS" followed by a number, separated by the emblem of Alzatia in the middle.

List of vehicles and registration codes

  • The ceremonial state limousine of Alzatia is a 1965 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman, with registration ELS 1.
  • A new state limousine, a 2022 Mercedes-Benz W223 S680 Guard, was commissioned in 2021. It also has the registration ELS 1.
  • The Princess owns two personal vehicles: a 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser, with registration ELS 2, and a 2013 Audi A8 L W12 Security, with registration ELS 3.
  • The Princely Palace has two Rolls-Royce Phantoms, which are used for transporting VIP guests, with registrations ELS 4 and ELS 5.
  • The Princely Guard operates four Opel Insignia security vehicles, two of which are used to escort the Princess on foreign visits, with registrations ELS 6 through ELS 9.

Number plates in Pulsroth are eight characters in length for most motor vehicles, the sole exception being motorcycles which use seven characters instead.

For example, a standard car number plate could be 38LH 4176, while an example of a motorcycle plate could be 12FC 390

To break down the first number plate

38= The region the vehicle was registered in (30-39 meaning Southwest)
LH= The home prefecture of the vehicle (LH meaning Lanihill Prefecture)
4176= The vehicle's unique registration

Emergency vehicles have the same basic format, except the first two numbers are in the 00-09 range, and the letters which usually represent a prefecture begin with Z instead. So an example would be 07ZS 1320 for a car, or 05ZF 714 for a motorcycle.

Grussland has a number of differing license plates, depending on the vehicle's registrant. All plates are 520 mm x 120 mm, with the exception of motorcycle plates which are a square 260 mm x 260 mm.

Shown below is the standard plate for private vehicles, owned by either individuals or private enterprises.
The plates have pale silver text over a matte wrinkle-textured dark grey paint, used to prevent glare. The format begins with a Region code with two registration date stickers followed by four numbers and two letters.

There are 20 single-letter region codes representing Grussland's 8 bezirk, with the most regions receiving two codes (the country's most populous regions, however, have extra codes). The four numbers and two letters are the vehicle's unique registration and are assigned sequentially, from '0000 AA' through '9999 ZZ'. It is possible for the same sequence of numbers and letters to be used more than once, provided the region code is unique. Older codes, which use different number-letter combinations, are still valid provided the registration has been paid/renewed.

The two stickers following the region code represent the month (1-12) and year (00-99) the registration expires and must be renewed. The colours for each are random for each month and year and are not known to the public until the sticker series is released; this is to prevent fraud and make identification easier for authorities. The plate below is valid until December 2023, for example.
Image

Other license plates include special diplomatic plates, government plates, police plates, and military plates, described below. All plates have matte wrinkle-paint backings to reduce glare.

Government plates are blue with silver text. The plates are purely numeric and assigned sequentially, from '0 0' through '9999 9999'
Image

Police plates are green with silver text and are preceded by "VP" (for Volkspolizei) in a smaller font. Numbers are purely numeric and assigned from '0000 000' through '9999 999' sequentially.
Image

Military plates are a combination of government and private plates - they use the same grey backing paint as private plates but use number assigned sequentially from '0 0' through '9999 9999' like government plates. However, the number blocks are separated by "M" (for Militär) in a smaller font.
Image

Finally, diplomatic plates are red with silver text. The first digits, in a smaller font, represent the country's assigned 3-digit code preceded by the letter D. The following 5 numbers are assigned sequentially and independently of the D code, though diplomatic staff can request numbers if an assigned combination is offensive or taboo in their culture.

Lisander have two systems of numberplates. The old one and the new one, based in the LSiD (National Digital ID system.

The old system, based in the city where the car is registered, and already discontinued in most locations, had white plates for every car, with a local symbol (usually the city Coat of Arms) and a coloured band on the right side to difference cars. Blue for Private, Red for Private Service (Taxis and Rental Cars), Green for Public Transport, Yellow for cargo, Bright Orange for Public Services (Police, Ambulances, Fire Department) and Black for Driving Schools. Below, you can see the old car plate of Jan Lemont, the Lord Mayor of Grandeville, first city to fully adopt the LSiD system.

Image

Above, you can see the new plate of Jan Lemont, on the new system. His LSiD code is displayed instead of the old vehicle register number. And it can be carried on to any other vehicle. The ruling of LSiD only states number must be visible in white over a black background, and in the usual numberplate typography.

Cheap plastic-made numberplates are the most common, while some high-end cars are coming out with led panels instead. It's becoming common for some owners to add the LSiD number as sticker in the bumper of the car instead of having a plate.

Cars that are not attached to a LSiD, be it personal or corporate, are not subject to the rule, and keep using the old system instead. It is expected further regulation of the government on the matter, especially when it comes to Public Service Cars, and there are projects being discussed among the parliamentary.

Based off of Qatar's license plates, except that plates start with a letter corresponding to the regions of PSG (Doha, Lusail, Al Khor, surrounding suburbs). A car registered in the region of Doha would have an A followed by six numbers (ex. A-283957). Arabic words are printed above the letters and numbers with the corresponding region.

Imperial Russian License plates have 10 digits: 3 Letters, a dash, and 6 Numbers, in that order.

The letters are for Oblast Code (Two Letters), Followed by Intra-Oblast District Code (One Letter)
For Example: НЖИ-661647

НЖ (NZh) - Nizhny Novgorod Oblast
И (I) - 9th district (Sarov), indicated by the 9th letter of the Russian Cyrillic alphabet (with 'Yo' excluded)

Current-Day Alternate history: Minor discrepancies with European dynasties beginning in the late 1700s, with major historical divergences from 1821 onward. The Russian Empire flourished in the 1800s, due to earlier emancipation and the sudden collapse of the UK, and is now the world's leading superpower, in a cold war with a syndicalist US.

Each Insulamian province (Éteaux, Henria, Newmere, Septentria) has its own plate and plate format. Each province also issues custom plates with up to eight characters, which will not be described here. There is also a federal plate for vehicles not under provincial regulation. Every plate has an aspect ratio of 2:1 and the red letters "IA" in the top left corner, which is the country code for Insulamia, so vehicles can be easily identified as Insulamian overseas. Every plate uses the same font except the federal plate.

Éteaux
Image
Éteaux plates are blue with yellow text and outline.

The header is "La province d'Éteaux", meaning "The province of Éteaux". The fact that it is a province is specified in order to avoid confusion with the city of Éteaux. There is also a fleur-de-lis, which is a national and provincial symbol.

The footer is "La première province", meaning "The first province". While Éteaux was one of the founding provinces of Insulamia, the slogan refers to the fact that Éteaux was the first European colony on the island.

The format of the plate is XX000XX (X being a letter and 0 being a number), which is similar to the current French number plate format. The first two letters "GV" are reserved for provincial and local government vehicles, such as police cars.

Henria
Image

Henria plates are white with blue text.

The header says "Henria", while the footer says "The Heart of the Nation". The footer's slogan is also the local (within Insulamia) tourism slogan.

There is a Henrian flag in the space between text on a Henria plate.

The format of the plate is XXX 000X, similar to the British plate format from 1963 to 1983. A special plate format "HG 00XX" is used for provincial and local government vehicles. Another special plate format "C OOOOOO" (O being both a letter or number) is used for commercial vehicles such as trucks, busses and taxis.

Newmere
Image

Image

Newmere plates are white with green text and blue text for headers and footers.

The text's different colours represent the land (the island) and the sea.

The header says "NEWMERE" and does not have the full title of the province (the Province of the Island of Newmere). This is likely because, unlike Éteaux, Newmere City has "City" and the province Newmere does not. Perhaps the full title would have been too long to fit on the plate too.

Citizens are given a choice between the English header "Newmere" or the French "Noumer", because Newmere has two different names and the province is officially bilingual.

The footer says "Maria aquilonis", meaning "the Seas of the North" in Latin. This is the official motto of the province, which is in Latin because it was a compromise between English and French (as previously mentioned, the province is bilingual).

The Newmere Arms is in the space between text on a Newmere plate.

The format of the plate is XX00 XXX, similar to current British plates. While the letters are random, the numbers on the plate indicate the year the vehicle was registered (for example, a vehicle with the plate "PF12 ERD" would have been registered in 2012). There are no special formats or reserved letters in Newmere.

Septentria
Image

Septentria plates are black with white text and outline.

The header says "SEPTENTRIA".

The format of the plate is XXX-000, with a hyphen between the letters and numbers. The format XX-XXXX is used for special vehicles. The first two letters indicate the type of special vehicle. There are many codes, but a few of them are:

"PD" Police
"FD" Fire department
"BS" Public transport bus (Septway Transit)
"MC" Motorcycle
"MP" Transport for members of the provincial parliament

Federal plates
Image

Federal plates are yellow with blue text.

The header says "FEDERAL VEHICLE" and the footer says "VÉHICULE FÉDÉRAL" ("Federal Vehicle" in French). These are the two official languages of Insulamia.

A different font is used on federal plates so they can easily be distinguished from provincial plates.

The format of the plate is 000XXXX. The last letter indicates the type of vehicle. For example, "000XXXT" is for trucks, "000XXXG" is for federal government vehicles, "000XXXD" is for diplomatic vehicles, "000XXXM" is for Federal Medical Service vehicles, and "000XXXR" is for Royal vehicles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This post made me interested in license plates and I created the above plates today. I'm also going to put this on my Factbook.

My favourite plate out of these is probably the Éteauxien plate because of its colours and the fleur-de-lis.

Septentria's plate is a little boring because Septentria is a very bland industrial province and they wanted their official plate to be as efficient and simple as possible.

For the provincial plates, I used the "License Plate" font, and for the Federal plate I used the "UKNumberPlate" font.

The standard format is NN LL NNN (L = Letter, N = Number). For example: AB 12 CDE.

The plate is a normal white metal plate with the number in the Charles Wright font on it with a special barcode on the left which can read by a machine. On the right side of the number plate is a small picture (eg. A pickaxe or wheat) which is used to identify which state the number plate comes from.

Number plates, also known as licence plates or rego plates variably across the Commonwealth, are a legal requisite for all motor-powered road-worthy vehicles. The format of said plates differs depending on the utility of the vehicle.

For personal automobiles (cars, motorbikes, etc...) as well as commercial vehicles, a license plate would be formatted as follows;

A five-letter initialism of the owner's commune of residence/business, followed by a series of three numbers and two letters. For example;

CACEN • 012AA

For a personal plate of a resident or the commercial plate of a business from the Canberra Central Commune.

The difference between personal and commercial licence plates is the colour - personal plates are white, whilst commercial plates are yellow. Both have black lettering.

Government vehicles, including public transport (buses, taxis) and emergency vehicles, will have red plates with white lettering, with the following format;

A word or initialism reflecting the vehicles use or department, followed by a series of three numbers and two letters. For example;

TAXIQ • 543AB
WACHS • 101ZH
RVCSI • 202GQ

Represent a taxi from Queensland, a vehicle from Western Australia's Consolidated Health Syndicate (likely an ambulance), and a vehicle from the Consolidated Syndicate for Infrastructure from the state of Riverina respectively. Note that whilst such initialisms may not be immediately self-evident in meaning to the uninformed, government vehicles will possess more obvious livery in addition to license plates for easy identification. The initialism (State)GOV or (State)GV is used as a catch-all for any government vehicles that elsewise would lack a distinct initialism or word.

The final category of normal license plates are those assigned to federal vehicles. These are black with white lettering - excepting defence vehicles, which are coloured relative to their operational branch - and appear as follows;

A five-letter word or initialism, the federation star, and a series of three numbers and two letters. For example;

CNAVY • ✹ • 192ER

Represents a vehicle registered to the Commonwealth Navy, whilst the following;

CWLTH • ✹ • 190PM

Belongs to the Federal Government directly - perhaps the Prime Minister's very own vehicle, or that of a High Court Justice. Foreign vehicles, meaning those allotted to members of foreign consulic delegations, also use special federal licence plates.

All Commonwealth licence plates will also indicate somewhere on their design their state/territory of origin - typically in smaller type above or below the main lettering. This is excepting, once more, federal vehicles, which will simply display Commonwealth for a federal government vehicle, Defence Force for military vehicles, or the country of origin for consulic vehicles.

The Commonwealth does not issue customised licence plates nor customised registration serials.

Commemorative and state-specific designs are available for personal and commercial vehicles only, though emergency vehicles have unique plate livery.

Modern licence plates have no date of expiry, and need only be changed over or removed should the vehicle attached to them be replaced or decommissioned or the personal owner/business of the vehicle moves to a new commune.

Non motor-powered but still road-worthy vehicles, such as bicycles, have a separate system of registration, which differs between states and territories. All utilise a combination of side-mounted curved licence plates and circular or square front-and-back mounted licence plates, with registration serials assigned variably between states and territories but discernable and recognised nation-wide.

We don't have license plates, as we have no traffic laws.
