"Together, We March Onward"
The Commonwealth of Atlantic States is a large, democratic nation established by the freedom-loving nations of the North Atlantic following America's triumph over Russia and China in the Third World War (2022-2025). Now the world's sole superpower, the Commonwealth of Atlantic States, or the Atlantican Commonwealth or the New Commonwealth, possesses the world's largest economy, the world's largest population, and the world's most powerful military. Run from the so-called 'Capital of the World' of London, part of the Greater London Area, the Commonwealth is the world's primary force for good in the fight against evil.

History
On 27 June 2022, a Chinese guided missile destroyer and a Russian frigate on patrol in the Sea of Japan sunk an American destroyer named Mason. The unprovoked attack was condemned by the United States, Japan, South Korea, and other Western nations, but no significant tensions came out of it thanks to incumbent President Daniel Anderson (D)'s supportive stance towards American pacifism. Four days later, however, a South Korean fleet composed of three destroyers and two offshore patrol vessels engaged a Chinese warship, sinking it after the Chinese crew had raised a flag of surrender.
Tensions rose on 3 July when Japan deployed warships into the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan, swiftly followed by Taiwanese and British warships. Russia reacted perhaps prematurely when it fired three missiles into the Sea of Japan, accidentally sinking a 30-man fishing vessel from South Korea. While American President Anderson worked behind the scenes to quell the tension, Chinese Premier Zhao Liaoping deployed People's Liberation Army marines into North Korea, provoking the South Koreans to fortify the DMZ.
On 8 July, four days after American independence day, the People's Republic of China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) declared war on South Korea, which was swiftly followed with declarations of war from Japan, Australia, and the United Kingdom. The United States stalled but, after the President's veto on a passed Congressional resolution to bring the US into the war was vetoed by Congress, declared war on 15 July. The Third World War officially started with the entry of the Philippines, France, Germany, Italy and Canada into the conflict on the South Korean side and Russia and Vietnam on the Chinese side.
A nuclear exchange then occurred between China and the United States, which ended with the devastation of California and the American West Coast and the elimination of China's nuclear launch capabilities through directed espionage attacks. Russia did not fire its warheads for fear of receiving the same espionage attack from the States.

After three grueling years of conventional war on the air, land and sea, Beijing fell to American and British troops on 7 August 2025 with over 3.1 million NATO troops on Chinese soil. Japan and South Korea had suffered beatings, after Chinese landings near Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, and Seoul and Incheon were incurred and eventually crushed by American forces. On 12 August 2025, with NATO forces on the doorstep of Moscow and the city of Volgograd in Turkish and Greek hands, the Russian Federation unconditionally surrendered, ending the Third World War.
The war had devastated American and British morale, with the destruction and the eventual secession of California, Oregon and Washington from the United States of America. The US economy had tumbled down to a meager 18.5 trillion dollars, with American loans barely keeping Britain afloat. As the war came to a close and the troops came filing home, President Daniel Anderson of the United States and Prime Minister Roger Clifford of the United Kingdom held a meeting in Ottawa with their Canadian, Danish, Icelandic and Norwegian counterparts to discuss something which would change global geopolitics forever.

After five months of negotiations, the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland united to form the United States of the North Atlantic. The Republic of Ireland, the Kingdom of Denmark, and the Kingdom of Norway subsequently ascended into the union, choosing the American-led Union over the French and German-led European Confederation of States, formed a month earlier. Canada and Iceland would enter the Union as well as resource scarcity began taking a toll on their economies, while America prospered and recovered from the war.

The United States of the North Atlantic was renamed into the Commonwealth of New Provenance upon the ascension of Cuba, Greater Dominica and Puerto Rico into the union on 7 July 2029.
-
On 31 January 2040, the Commonwealth was formally renamed to the Commonwealth of Atlantic States through public referendum.
