Monsonian Energy Sources:

Hydropower --- 58%
Nuclear --- 24%
Wind --- 15%
Geothermal --- 3%

Overview of Sources:

Hydropower: The geography and weather of Monsone are ideal for hydropower development especially in coastal regions due to high precipitation and in mountain highlands due to above-average precipitation and a steady supply of meltwater. Hydropower provides both baseload power as well as grid storage in the form of pumped-storage hydro and is the backbone of the Monsonian grid. All current and future plans for hydroelectricity are primarily pumped storage, and would not significantly increase generating potential as a whole.

Nuclear: Nuclear power has been a part of the Monsonian electrical grid since 1961 and from the 1970s on, played an ever-increasing role in Monsonian energy production. The peak year for nuclear was 1984 when it generated 28% of all electricity consumed in Monsone. However, this figure has declined due to the closure of obsolete nuclear power plants as well as increases in hydroelectric, eolic, and geothermal energy. The long-term plan for Monsonian energy includes boosting nuclear's generating percentage to 25% and maintaining it at that while replacing existing plants as they reach the end of their service lives.

Wind: Eolic energy has since the late 1990s played an ever-larger role in the Monsonian electrical grid. Most new energy developments are wind farms, with the offshore wind potential of Monsone remaining mostly untapped due to bountiful onshore wind resources.

Geothermal: The smallest energy source by percentage, Geothermal has played an albeit minor role in the Monsonian grid since the 1960s. However, it did not exceed 1% of installed capacity until 2008 and has continued to grow due to ever-improving drilling techniques which have opened up more areas for geothermal installations.

Despite significant oil and gas reserves in Monsone along with vast coal deposits, fossil fuels have not been used in the Monsonian grid since 2016 with oil having been phased out in 1976, coal in 1990, and natural gas in 2016. Currently, fossil fuels are solely exported or used for non-energy related.

We have been closing all fossil kinds of power plants: Coal, oil and gas. Switching then for greener energies as solar and wind to complement hydroelectrical energy. The problem is how to do with nuclear plants used since the 1970s that are approaching the end of their safe operating life.

The majority of Australia's electrical energy is sourced from renewable sources.

The breakdown is currently as follows:

Solar - 39% | Hydroelectric - 37% | Wind - 16% | Other - 8%

Solar Power
Solar power is the largest single source of energy in the Commonwealth. Most buildings possess roof-mounted solar panels, as do public transport vehicles (such as trains and busses) and some larger freight vehicles.

In addition, there are several large and expansive solar facilities located in the nation's expansive outback interior, where the climate lends itself well to the operation and longevity of such installations.

Hydroelectric Power
Hydroelectric power was once the nation's largest energy source and is still the 2° largest in the present. The massive expansion of hydroelectric facilities undertaken by Prime Minister Earle Page's Country Partys government in the 1930s were the nation's first major federal infrastructure project and vastly expanded the nation's electrical capacity and the availability of electricity in rural areas, allowing the Commonwealth to adopt the use of electric vehicles and provide electric power to every single household.

The expansion of the nation's hydroelectric facilities has slowed in recent decades as other energy production methods have developed and the environmental impact of further damming has been deemed prohibitive. Prototype methods to harness tidal power for future hydroelectric energy generation are presently being implemented, particularly in Australia's Pacific states.

Wind Power
Energy produced by wind turbines provides a small percentage of the nation's electrical needs, with several windfarms scattered around the nation and it's waters providing auxiliary power to state and national grids. Such auxillary systems are integral in situations where the normal production of hydroelectric power is affected by drought.

Other Sources
Nuclear energy is currently not used to provide electric power to the state or national electric grids. All of the nation's nuclear reactors are used either for military or medical/scientific uses and in isolation from the nation's electrical grids. Whilst the potential of nuclear power is understood and utilisés in other countries, there is little present demand to construct a domestic reactor, considering the adequacy of the extant hydroelectric and solar systems.

Geothermal power, likewise is utilised only in isolation and not considered feasible for nation-wide expansion.

Use of non-renewable energy sources was phased out in the decades following the completion of the nation's hydroelectric power system, with the last coal power plant closed in 1963. The New Guinea territory remains the only region of the Commonwealth still utilising non-renewable energy at state-level.
January 27° - The 2025 Federal Election season has begun! Initial three-party preferred polls put the I.S.P. ahead at 37%, followed by the Country Party at 34%, then Labor at 29%.

Pirusavia is mostly powered with the combination of two sources: nuclear energy and hydroelectric power.

In breakdown: Nuclear energy (60%), hydroelectric dams (35%), fossil fuel (6%), and others (4%).

Nuclear Energy
The idea of nuclear energy to power electricity in Pirusavia was first conceived in 1961 and was built for the first time in 1964. Samtavrar Nuclear Power Plant was the first nuclear power plant in the country and is located in the State of Mervalia, around 200 kilometres from the capital city of Sagren, and is still operating today. Since then, the usage of nuclear energy expanded and replaced a lot of pollution-laden coal and fossil fuel plants in the country.

Hydroelectric Power
The use of hydroelectric power is utilised widely in the country due to the nation's vast array of wide rivers on high, mountainous altitudes. It is also the oldest form of energy production in Pirusavia, with the first power plant in the country was built in 1924 - the Barretia Dam in Southeastern Mervalia. The State of Puronia is currently the only federated state to be mostly powered by hydroelectric power (80% hydroelectric, 16% nuclear, 4% others).

Fossil Fuel/Coal
Once the largest power producer in the country, it is now being replaced by nuclear energy. The realisation of pollution produced by this kind of plant opened awareness on public health hazard which pushes the demand to replace it with nuclear power.

Others
Some alternative form of energy production is being researched in this country, especially wind and solar energy. Currently, wind and solar energy is widely utilised in the country's most remote areas so that virtually geographically isolated people still could harness electric power. Other ones, such as geothermal and tidal energy is currently under experimental phase led by the country's top engineers.

The Commonwealth of Narland doesn't have "a powergrid." per se. Each person is responsible for his own electricity needs. Thus the people of the communities, counties, cantons, and states elect their own public utilities to meet their needs at the most local jurisdictions possible . This gives the greatest accountability to the people most directly affected by the utility, with the greatest service, at the least possible expense. Utilities that fail to meet the expectations in their respective communities are readily dissolved and more capable ones are then elected.

This means there are over 12,000 electric grids in the nation, all of which are self-supportive. Most are either connected to or interconnected with the others, and can supply energy to other grids at a moments notice. Of the 8 States/Cantons and the 3 Territories, 100% of the people who want reliable, inexpensive electricity 27/7 have it at about 0.018 US Dollars (1.8 cents) per kilowatt hour. Those who do not want it (the 5% of the Commonwealth population who mostly live in the Allemanery region (mainly Amish), do not have to pay for the nuisance of unwanted infrastructure.

Nuclear Fission (all forms): 32%
Natural Gas: 28%
Hydroelectric (Pluvial):: 19%

Hydroelectric (Tidal): 1%
Nuclear Fusion (all forms): <1% (experimental and highly controversial)
Petroleum: <1%
Radioisotope Thermoelectric (RTG): <1% -- phased out/prohibited in the 1960s for terrestrial use but allowed for extraterrestrial use (moonbases, satellites, space probes, manned interplanetary craft).
Solar: <1%

Haryan wrote:Why did you choose these sources in the past, and what you want to use in the future?

These have been the most economically feasible for the local communities involved regarding the available resources and cost of transportation/delivery. As markets and technology develops and changes, it appears that Nuclear Fusion has the greatest potential. Solar is used on our space stations and has the biggest profit margin but are difficult to sell to grounders.

Our 3 moonbases use a combination of RTG, nuclear and solar. Wind turbines have been an ecological disaster, notoriously unreliable, and cost prohibitive such that they are no longer an economically viable technology. Everything else will vary in the future in proportion to market costs and utility.

If a new technology can safely deliver electricity to the individual at under 1.8 cents per kilowatt hour it has the potential for a future in the Commonwealth.

Fossil fuels have been the dominant source for Berusturg due to the efficiency and cost, but more ecological and eco-friendly laws have pushed the electrical industry to use renewable sources and these sources are expected to be the dominant energy source by 2024. Nuclear energy has also seen a slow rise as well, but it is far from overtaking any sources, due to the very limited mining and strict importation of uranium; also, it is only allowed to be used in the less-populated Arctic Federative as of now. the predominant renewable energy is solar, due to mainland being on the equator. Hydroelectricity also has seen a lot of usage due to many rivers in the mainland.

Solar - 2.6%
Biomass/Anaerobic - 1.9%

Rhodevus has a robust energy profile with abundant and diverse resources. The energy and climate policies in Rhodevus are interrelated. These energy and climate policies are implemented at both the federal and provincial government level. The federal government is responsible for establishing objectives for the entire country and the provincial governments are responsible for enforcing these objectives and developing the methods to achieve these goals.

Multiple trans-provincial deals have been established to ensure the electrical needs of those in smaller communities and extremely low density areas are met. The 1982 Wyle Executive Deal between Wyle, Iylan and Cundas provincial governments was established to build facilities to power homes in Northern Wyle, without the need for coal plants.

Rhodevus has aimed to stop using coal for electrical consumption by 2027. There are currently only 3 coal-fired power plants remaining in the country, two in Wyle and one in Cundas. Deals organized between the federal and provincial governments have been made to provide monetary aid in building a new hydroelectric damn in order to not only replace the coal plant, but also reduce the amount of oil is used for electricity generation in the province. Similar deals have been made in Wyle in order to harness the provinces massive geothermal energy reserves.

In 2019, the Rhodeve federal government alongside province of Iylan and territory of the Iles du Surete signed the Hybrid Generation Agreement to convert the oil-based electricity generation plants to hybrid oil-natural gas plants in the Iles du Surete and the Ile du Myars. This agreement also ordered the closure of all plants looking to renew their contracts or extend their lifetimes before 2029.

In 2022, a national one-tear 'Coal Slow-down' was implemented, wherein all coal powerplants were required to reduce their generation by 15-25%. Federal grants were issued to make up the net-profit loss expected from this ruling. The slow-down was implemented to test if long-term battery storage could handle the energy-fluctuations of closing down the coal plants for good. As of May, the frequency of black-outs and brown-outs in communities in Wyle and Cundas has remained constant with previous yearly data, which is considered a good sign to the viability of battery storage in Rhodevus.

Currently our energy scheme is rather balanced, however Nuclear, Renewable, and Hydro power have all been growing as of late. Polluting power sources facilitate the use of carbon scrubbing technology to ensure they're as clean as possible, but they still pollute and are slowly on the way out. Entirely nuclear. Specifically, the two nuclear power plants on each end of the archipelago, both of which are fast-spectrum molten salt reactors, with "spent" fuel pellets imported from America and France being the main source of fuel.
Tertiary electricity is generated on location by small wind turbines and solar panels, but nuclear baseline production is always there.
