"Fellow brothers and sisters. It is our divine right to rule ourselves as this country, glorious Crossoveria, is ours, and we refuse to let any other country take it. We believe that this should not only apply to us, it should apply to all countries in the world. Imperialism has tarnished the image of the people, as the imperialists force their own cultures and ideologies onto the countries they target. Will we allow the same thing to happen to us? No! Our founding father, Kais Al Abidine Baldemore, was strongly against imperialism, and we, as brothers and sisters, should all be against it too. And now, our sovereignty is currently being threatened. If we lose this election, we lose Crossoveria with the official signing of the Treaty of Elmore. This treaty is nothing but a license for imperials to destroy our beloved homeland. And we clearly do not want that. After all, it is not their place in the world to be policing other countries with domestic policies. PRESS: Mr. Al Meskin, are you opposed to the state of Cartoonia and their treaty as stated in a previous speech?

AL MESKIN: Why shouldn’t I be? The treaty the want us to sign might turn us into a protectorate of theirs, not to mention we’d lose a whole lot of power.

PRESS: Why?

AL MESKIN: Well, let’s say that we accepted this treaty before this election. A lot of our land will be lost, our military would be reduced, and we’re basically obliged to have the same domestic policies as the toon government. There would be literally no way for us to rule ourselves independently, taking away years of self governance. It is clear the people want to rule themselves, and not let a foreign power take control of their government.

PRESS: What does this have to do with imperialism?

AL MESKIN: Well, the Toon government would want to spread their influence upon us. They want us to govern like they do, and if we didn’t obey this treaty, the toons would declare war on us. We don’t want another war, not do we want imperialist presence upon us.

PRESS: Sounds like you hate imperialism as a whole.

AL MESKIN: I do! Imperialism is a serious problem that needs to be addressed and stopped. The impact of imperialism anywhere is horrendous, and if the people don’t want other countries meddling in their own affairs, then the imperialists should go.

PRESS: What will be your course of action as President?

AL MESKIN: Well, our people clearly want imperialists out, so we would have to cut ties.

PRESS: But the Toons seem to want to compromise another treaty if you decline the current draft.

AL MESKIN: Well, if they are able to negotiate a treaty that will be fair to us, then we will think about it. If not, then… you know. As I said, I do not want our country to turn into a protectorate nor do I want anything bad to happen to our country in the future. I want Crossoverians to continue ruling themselves independently, as they’ve been doing for over 60 years now.

The Crossoverian Presidential Elections are an important part of the Crossoverian Republic, and has been an honored tradition for over forty years. This election will be the most important in the history of Crossoverian elections, as this will be the first democratic election being held with a multi-party system. State Television and Radio broadcasts will showcase these elections as the candidates will discuss important issues concerning Crossoveria, as they always will do. This debate will be the final stage of the entire election, as come November 9, the winner will be announced, and he will take the office of the President. That being said, the incumbent President had been defeated in the Secondaries, so the office is up to be conquered by our final two candidates. Please welcome the Theocratic Party Candidate, Islamic Scholar and Cleric Saied Hamad bin Ahmad Al Meskin, and the Anthro Party Candidate, Secretary Porkchop Funnie. We will have opening statements from both candidates. Mr. Al Meskin, would you care to start?

HAMAD: Thank you, Haadhir. Citizens of Crossoveria, as we approach Election Day, we must always ask what future we want to build for Crossoveria with these elections. We should vote for a person who will serve as a representative of the common man, and will make sage decisions in order to lead this country to a better path. We, as the people of our homeland, must always depend on ourselves to lead our country to the right path no matter what happens. I believe that if we let outside forces dictate us with their own policies, then we would collapse, and soon, we would become a protectorate. A situation like this is happening now: the drafters of the Treaty of Elmore want us to abide to the terms of the treaty, but this is clearly a license so that they can police our country and force us to do whatever they want us to do. We cannot accept this, nor are we going to bow down to other nations and serve them. If Allah wills it, we will fight against the imperialists taking our homeland, and we will win in the end. We will bring Crossoveria to a new era, as we advocate against imperialism, and follow the divine light of Allah, and peace be upon him. So, to conclude, our country must remain strong against the imperial forces while at the same time remain religious. Voters must understand this and ask themselves if they want to continue ruling independently. If they do... then the choice is obvious.

HAADHIR: Wonderful, Mr. Al Meskin. Secretary Funnie, you would like to say a few words for yourself?

PORKCHOP: Yes, sir. For decades, our country has been under a dictatorial system, and it still technically is. Yes, we did and still do have a President, but the ultimate authority is going to the Supreme Leader, and our country completely lacked representation from the people, not to mention implementing a lot of horrible policies against personal freedoms and against us anthropomorphic animals. While it is true that our people want a representative of the people, that representative should be responsive to the people of Crossoveria and not so much on cartoons and Middle Eastern conflicts. Our people should be able to write, practice, and say whatever they want, especially if its criticism of the government. This is the type of freedom our country lacked during the Republic's first six decades of existence, and now is our change to allow these freedoms. Our country must stick to its motto, "Fraternity, Diversity, the Crossoverian Brotherhood" at all times, especially the "diversity" part. The time is right to not only give anthropomorphic citizens of Crossoveria equal rights, but to also open ourselves to civil liberties that we have missed out on for nearly seventy years. I believe this will do a lot more positive things to our homeland than bad, and it will certainly make the people happier.

Now, we are being joined by my brother, Supreme Leader Waldemar Rochester, and his wife, Marie BonAztire. And as they did in the Primary Elections, they will take notes on the candidates and their stances on the issues being brought to us today. The first issue will be presented to Islamic Scholar Al Meskin by former Crossoverian President Rostam Ergodan Turure.

ROSTAM: Saied Al Meskin, over the course of recent events, you have continuously denounced the nation of Cartoonia and the Treaty of Elmore they proposed. Your political opponents are also saying that there might be a return to conflicts between the two nations. With the understanding that this treaty was meant to prevent any future conflicts concerning the ACE, what do you say about this?

HAMAD: Mr. Turure, while it is true that I despise this treaty and want our abidance to end as soon as possible, I can assure you that if we were to ever go to war with Cartoonia again, we would just be making a fool out of ourselves. We should never want to try to conquer their lands unlike the ACE, as we believe that all countries should be independent, even this one. If they want to govern themselves, they should be free to do so. However, to bestow one's customs and cultures to another country's is wrong. Every country should decide what policies to make, domestic, economic, or foreign just so long as they don't try to go after other countries. To bounce back to the cartoon sovereign, yes it is true that we can't accept this treaty, but we don't want to go to war, unless if inevitable. And if there is a fiasco that is similar to that of the ACE, we will deal with that ourselves. As already said, we do not want to take Gallagher. Anyone who wasn't in the ACE didn't even want war with Cartoonia, and the people would be upset if we went to war again. So basically, while I do not want to abide to this treaty, I believe that we should not authorize another attempted invasion on their homeland.

ROSTAM: Thank you. Secretary Funnie, do you have a rebuttal or comments on Saied Al Meskin's speech?

PORKCHOP: Yes. The reason why the Treaty of Elmore was created was to ensure the stability of our country. The ACE had control of Crossoveria for months, bringing their worst into law. The Treaty of Elmore was also established so that we would create a democratic government. This is why we need to abide to this treaty, and not only that, but it should also be a source for future lawmaking. Besides, we already agreed to the terms and conditions of this treaty. or at least, our current President did. I am a firm believer that the Treaty of Elmore would have a positive impact on Crossoveria because it would allow us to create a democracy after years of dictatorship, compared with stability after months of ACE control.

ZAC: Secretary Funnie, your political opponents claim that you engage in fraudulent activities and that your policies would give rise to imperialism. What do you say about this?

PORKCHOP: Well, I would like to say that I firmly believe in a democratic system in Crossoveria, unlike my opponent here. But as I’ve already said, my party or I have never engaged in horrific actions that are trying to skew these elections in favor of my victory. It’s just that sometimes there would be a sudden surge in popularity for me in Crossoveria. Activities like these are never our doing, and they never would be. As for my policies, as already mentioned, I want to install a democratic government that would be responsive to the peoples needs instead of hoarding their power, and while it is true that I do want to sign the Treaty of Elmore, this would not give rise to imperialism, but stability and civil liberties, and the toons would guide us to the path of freedom for our nation’s people. All I would advocate for is the best way for our country to convert to democracy, after years of dynastic authoritarian rule, but our party would never try to get involved in fraudulent activities. That’s not even how democracy works! I believe that in democracies, the people decide who to vote for, and whoever gets the most votes wins the election. That is how I want to play it when campaigning for my Presidential campaign.

Before we adopted Capitalism, we respected private property, but our government provided for basic needs, like healthcare and education.
