Police Ban Act of 1986 Repealled
Earlier today, Chancellor Dale signed into law legislation which would repeal the previous ban on government funded police forces. This move comes after several weeks of extreme violence between mercenary groups, the Asuckian Domestic Defense Force, and suspected criminals. The new legislation also outlined basic requirements for the new police leaders as well as requirements for police transparency. The legislation included no specifics regarding the organization of police forces besides a system for the election of sheriffs.

The Government Policing Ban Act of 1986, typically referred to as the Police Ban Act, was created in part by the Asuckian United Libertarian Collective, a now defunct party which was popular with anarchists and libertarians on both the political left and right. This party quickly gained power in the 1980s as police violence and government overreach expanded globally. The law was intended to prevent the government from becoming too authoritarian, but has received harsh criticism across the aisle in recent years as it has resulted in violence in major cities.

Chancellor Dale offered his commentary on both the prior law and the new legislation. "This old law has resulted in many needless deaths of suspected criminals by mercenary vigilantes," claimed the chancellor. "Our new legislation allows the Asuckian government to protect its people and properly enforce its laws rather than relying on easily bought and corruptible mercenaries. We believe that this law strikes a balance between government authority and the freedom of individuals by including various transparency clauses."

The legislation originally began in the People's House of Representatives, which promptly approved it and sent it to the House of Commerce. The House of Commerce included an amendment which would allow mercenary groups to still control certain areas of the country under close government scrutiny. Sent back to the People's House, the new amendment was approved after short debates and the bill was sent to the Senate. The Senate Law Enforcement Committee also approved the law, which was sent to the chancellor's office early this morning. The bill was signed into law by the chancellor without issue as the chancellor had been a notable supporter of the bill since its drafting.

This repealling and replacing of the Government Policing Ban Act of 1986 was a major campaign promise of many members of Asucki's Conservate Reform Party. It is expected that this legislation will provide a boost in support in the next elections as crime rates drop. Several members from both the Traditionalist and United Workers' parties also voted for this piece of legislation. The relevant law may be found here.

Asuckian Embassy Program Begins
The recent Construction of Embassies on Asuckian Territory legislation has paved the way for foreign nations to establish embassies in Asucki. This legislation passed the House of Commerce and Senate without issue, but received only a slim majority vote in the People's House. Minister of Foreign Affairs James Henry was quick to develop a comprehensive program for other countries to apply for an embassy.

The DBN spoke with Mr. Henry about the new program. "I was really excited when Bill 1330 started to make its way through congress. I began developing an application system as soon as it was drafted in the House of Commerce. While many members of the Traditionalist party opposed this move, I think that it won't be a threat to our sovereignty and will instead bring about security and peace for our nation."

Speaker of the People's House of Representatives Edward Hall had a very different view on the bill. "This legislation is absurd and corrupts the isolationist ideals that our nation has supported for decades," said Hall. "While many of the younger members of congress believe that allowing foreign countries to take over parts of Asucki will have positive results, I don't think that that's the case. Our nation's sovereignty cannot coexist with this program."

Despite objections from Traditionalist members of congress such as Hall, the bill passed all three houses of legislature and was signed by Chancellor Dale. Hall was required to sign the bill as the rest of the People's House had approved it. Several nations have already come forward with applications for embassies and it is believed that many more will come shortly.

The legislation can be found here. Information on the new embassy program is available here.

Asuckian Security Council Makes Drastic Changes to Military
Earlier today the Asuckian Security Council announced major changes to military organization. These changes were made at the request of the Sean Cooper, director of the Asucki Department of Defense. Changes include the establishment of an official navy and air force as well as dissolving the former Asuckian International Force and the Asuckian Domestic Defense Force and replacing it with new Asuckian Federal Army. The ADDF's old policy of relying on members to provide mechanized vehicles has also been abandoned. These changes are expected to result in a drastic increase in military expenditure.

Early surveys seem to show that Asuckians have divided views on the move, with against it. Several prominent members of the Traditionalist party have expressed their disapproval of the action. Economic experts we've spoken have to warned that the expansion of the military would result in large increases in mandatory taxes as well as an increased reliance on foreign loans and investments.

Supporters of the move include four members of the Security Council. Among these are Sean Cooper, the aforementioned Director of the Department of Defense, as well as Chancellor Dale. While neither were available for comment, a spokesperson for Chancellor Dale told DBN that the Chancellor believed that the changes would "help protect Asucki."

An unexpected support base for the move is the members of the AIF and ADDF. Harold Metzger, a soldier we spoke to on an ADDF base, said that the dissolution of the AIF and ADDF into a unified army group "might fix these supply issues and get us some nicer tanks." According to the Council, members of the AIF and ADDF should be automatically transferred to the new AFA. The creation of an official government navy and air force has also gone over well with fishermen, merchants, and pilots. It is expected that the laws requiring these individuals to form militia navies and air forces during times of war will be greatly relaxed by the legislature.

You can review the Security Council's announcement here.
