We banned Harry Potter books for like a week before people got mad and we removed the law. This was due to its mention of witchcraft, which is a big no-no in Catholicism (IRL me doesn't agree but whatever). Mein Kampf cannot be sold in regular stores but is permitted to be sold online, although only in the original German.

The only book that is officialy banned is "Books banned by the Information and National Security Service", written by former officer Demetrios Mullenbach.

There are more banned books, but reliable sources aren't available (see previous paragraph) and spreaded lists have been repeatedly refutated.

As of 2046, no books are banned in the Federation of Brazil. Mein Kampf, which was previously banned since the end of WW2, had its ban overturned in 2035 following a decision by the Supreme National Court, which deemed the ban to be "unconstitutional", as the new constitution of 2034 guarantees "freedom from censorship" and upholds the "right to informational freedom".

Literature is highly valued by the government of Brazil, which allowed the books banned by the Brazilian Revolution to be sold again following Érico Rusch's ascension to the presidency, back in 2030. One of the steps taken to promote literature was the end of taxation on books, enacted in 2033.

Rwizikuru does not really ban books, although part of it stems from the fact that the Rwizikuran government doesn't have a lot of control over the peripheral regions, making it hard to clamp down on any smuggling.

Any book involving blasphemy/counter religious.
This can be anything from satanism to denying the divinity of God(heresies) to evolution to the primordial thought.

Promotion of “sodomites”.
This is anything pertaining to most groups commonly listed as LGBT+. Asexual material is sometimes allowed, but culturally Frowned upon due to the culture dictating vast reproduction. Also included in this ban, which primary deals with attractions and identities, are things such as pedophilia.

Anything seditious.
This uncultured anti government, leaking state secrets, slander of leaders etc.

Finally for a catch all, anything that fits in none of the others, yet is deemed unfit.
An example would be a book promoting fat acceptance, Gothia is violently anti fat and this would ban it. Often books here can shift into the actual categories, and if enough b similar ones exist can become their own category.
Come out, the WA has passed a resolution. Actions will be taken to bring your nation into compliance.

The only printed media which is outright banned in Juansonia is:
- Copyright Violations
- Books with maliciously altered text attempting to pass as legitimate copies
- Child pornography
- redacted/censored government writing which has not already been leaked into mainstream (confidentiality/security concerns)

Access to above materials is granted almost exclusively for the purpose of enforcing bans (redacted government writing is given to intended recipients, however).

Printed media, like television and movies, has age ratings assigned, some of which impose age restrictions on purchase/borrowing/renting (waivable w/ proof of parental consent). Most age restrictions for text-only printed media are for sexual content (many translations of Religious Scripture fall under these limits). Books lended as part of an educational curriculum can circumvent these restrictions for educational purposes.

Some printed media is required or incentivised to be distributed with a state-written context/content pamphlet. For example, The Anarchist's Cookbook must be distributed with a notice explaining that several of its recipes do not produce intended results.

Edit: The government, as a joke, incentivises booksellers to accompany copies of 1984 with an index card that reads "Literally 1984".

There is only one book banned in Meadowfields, "Gesceapeacðætacsanmúða", a book rendered so obscene that the author committed suicide due to trauma from writing it. It was written in the year 1198, by poet Bárspreót. The book has extremely graphic elements and contains hardcore...you know what...with a river.

The Orwell Society's book publishing industry is owned and regulated by the core Party, the State, and the government. It is extensive, as citizens spend what little money they have on literature, to the benefit of the government. All literature is cleverly-written and sometimes disguised propaganda promoting Big Brother and the Party. Any book that holds even a nuetral on the government's ideology is banned, all books are run through a regulation and suppression sector operated by the Ministry of Truth before circulation. However, very few books not written by the Ministry actually reach circulation.

Because WW2. All books intended to promote the ideologies of Nazism, fascism or are revisionists of Jewish/gypsy, hodomor or Armenian holocaust are banned from sale to the public. Except versions with critical annotations.
This ban does not forbid the usage of these works for educational or scholarly purposes in appropriate settings nor does it criminalise the mere ownership of a pro-Nazi or pro-fascist book, or an antidemocracy book. Only the sale and purchase of them with intent of spreading authoritarian ideology.
Also Islamist books or books like the Anarchist cookbook are also banned. Marx books were also limited to purchase without critical annotations.
