Veganism and Vegetarianism in the Human Star State
Not many citizens within the Sternenstaat practice veganism, primarily due to the fact that most meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy are sourced from agricultural and pastoral venues that emphasize cleanliness and natural raising of animals over an otherwise industrialized, mass-production of animal-derived food. However, plenty still practice vegetarianism due to the staples of their religion; for example, most Hindus within the Sternenstaat are lacto-vegetarians.

We aren't sure if drinking Energon is vegan or not, because we don't know what kind of biologicals, which died between 10,000 and a million years ago, became the oil that we make Energon from. That said, we don't really care. After all - to the best of our knowledge, it takes at least several thousand years for crude oil to naturally form. After all that time, it's irrelevant what it formed from.

Some of us do drink biofuel-based Energon, which is made from plants due to convenience. However, those who do so do it to save money, not to be vegan or vegetarian. If it was cheaper and easier to make it out of meat, they'd have no problem with doing so.

We do not allow our slaves to be vegan, vegetarian, or any other thing that's going to make it a pain to keep them alive and decently healthy. To stop this kind of nonsense, we don't even expose them to any such ideas. We have also used genetic engineering to slightly increase the carnivore instinct. The main point of doing this was to keep them from rejecting "nontraditional" meat sources such as rat, but as a good side-effect, the desire to reject any kind of meat that is from a species other than theirs is all but nonexistent.

99.97% living in the Temple of the Computer is Vegetarian, mainly due to the fact that the only meat we have is rat meat, cockroaches, and human flesh if you are THAT kind of person. So most people just eat potatoes, lots, and lots of potatoes.

It's a very small amount. Those who are vegan or vegetarian are due to medical issues rather than ethical ones. A lot of Cheskilandian peasant dishes have been traditionally free of meat. This is more due to the traditionally high cost of meat than to ethical concerns.

- An estimated 3% is vegetarian or vegan (either vegan or vegetarian)
- An estimated 1% is specifically vegan (within the vegetarian subcategory)
- An estimated 2% is pescatarian

Much of the meat of Destyntine is synthetically created in agricultural laboratories. Through cellular cultivation, meat is able to be created without the need to harvest livestock. A small amount of muscle tissue is taken from an animals body, allowing for the cells to reproduce to create a sizable piece of meat. 85% of meat is cultivated in labs while 15% is harvested the traditional way. Vegetarianism rates have dropped as the nation has decreased the emotional impact of slaughterhouses to the public. Citizens who live in cities are 3x more likely to be vegetarian or vegan than those who live within the countryside.

The majority of pescatarians are clansmen who live near the ocean, where fish is the main source of food. These clansmen do not believe in the buying of an outsider's food source. 70% of pescatarians within the nation live within the preserved lands.

Although veganism and vegetarianism have experienced steady growth in the last decade, these groups remain as a minuscule minority. The exact percentage of vegans or vegetarians is unknown, although it is rumored to be between 80,000 to 300,000 people.

In 2018, during the second term of Augusto Monteiro, veganism was called "abhorrent" and the government promised to ban veganism. Initially, additional taxes were imposed on vegan restaurants and vegan dishes. The motive to this course of action was that veganism supposedly was "harmful to humans, as meat and other animal-derived products are essential for a healthy life and healthy offspring." Monteiro's government also announced that "veganism promotes the idea that humans are on the same level as animals and therefore must not dominate them, an idea that puts humanity at risk. We have ascended to the top of the food chain and we won't remain there just by eating grass, especially if aliens discover Earth." Although such words wouldn't be taken seriously outside our country, they were highly regarded among the Piratinese, a culture whose economy was based on cattle raising for many centuries.

On 12 February 2021, veganism was banned in Piratini. Currently, there is a law project that seeks to introduce "compulsory rehabilitation and reeducation" for vegans. Another law project in the National Assembly would ban vegetarianism completely. Veganism and vegetarianism are seen as "intrusive foreign concepts" that harm society and weakens the nation, making it more susceptible to foreign invaders.

Seen as a ridiculous notion by decadent foreigners. We eat meat when we can, usually every few days. Meat is a delicacy, a treat, since it's expensive to produce and rather hard to keep fresh, unlike our normal fare.

The state itself takes no position on such matters being content to leave it in the hands of our citizens

That being said culturally the axmanlandian population love them some beef and pizza and these are two of our fastest growing industries (due in no small part to rampant and indeed government funded drug use)

In all I would say less than seven percent identify as vegan/vegetarian

50% is vegetarian, 35% is pescatarian, and 10% is vegan. Only about 5% of my population consumes land animals of any kind. Most of these are Muslims who adhere to a strict halal diet, Jews who are predominantly kosher, Parsees, Sikhs, and Christians. Most of our population is Hindu, and even among those who are not, many Buddhists and Jains refuse to consume flesh as well.

The state doesn't really care to poll such things, much less enact laws based around these things. But the population is mostly non-vegan and non-vegetarian, given anyone in Gonswanza would rather clean their plate than waste food over fickle beliefs that consuming [x] is somehow evil.

Vegetarianism is relatively common among Somiénois-et-Haverasiens, comprising around 15% of the population. This is due in part to the large Buddhist minority in Somiens-et-Haveras, though in past decades vegetarianism has also come into vogue among intellectuals and the college-educated. However, recent research suggests that a large number of self-identified vegetarians are actually pescetarians, estimated at around 40% of self-identified vegetarians. This discrepancy is attributed to cultural attitudes surrounding seafood consumption, a staple of Somiénois-et-Haverasien cuisine. Vegans are less common, comprising around 4% of the population.

Due to it being much more environmentally friendly, most Lanomirans only have meat once every few months or less. Meat, alongside dairy, is extremely expensive and considered a rarity only eaten on special occasions. Dairy in particular is hard to get, as cows are not forcefully inseminated to keep producing milk; this is illegal. However, fish is more commonly eaten, often once a week. Laws are in place that put heavy restrictions on meat, dairy, and fishing industries.

Veganism and vegetarianism, despite a resurgence in popularity after the revelation of agricultural practices and inhumane conditions, is still limited within Fratanica. Fratanica's cuisine emphasizes the use of a meat or fish as an entree, paired with side dishes of vegetables and grains. Yet, relative to the population Fratanica has many people who identify as vegetarian or vegan; around 7.6% of the population practice vegetarianism and 0.5% practice veganism. Many more identify as flexitarians with around 12.4% of the population, which places a plant-based diet at its core but allows for rare consumption of meat and fish. Overall, Fratanican culture highlights the consumption of meat and fish, hence the lower percentages, yet plant-based diets have experienced strong growth within the last 20 years.

Another popular alternative to an omnivorous diet is the pescatarian diet, as fish can be consumed. A 2016 study conducted by Viras National University's Department of Sociology, consisting of 5,378 respondents, found out that around 5.7% of respondents said that they were pescatarian rather than vegetarian. They also estimated that up to 9.9% of people may become pescatarian by 2020.

Vegetarian and vegan diets are very rare in our country, and they are most often associated with certain celebrities and wealthy tourists. In an effort to attract certain clientele to their establishments, many resorts and restaurants have extensive menu offerings for vegetarians and vegans. But the majority of citizens still consume meat and dairy products, so it is very rare to find eateries that exclusively offer plant-based goods.

Most Pashtuns are not vegetarians. A non-Veg diet is more affoardable than a vegan or vegetarian one and those who can afford to be vegan or vegetarian typically just like the taste of meat.

Vegetarianism and veganism are on the rise in Blackfield, though only about 8% of the population is vegetarian and 2% vegan. Veganism is seen as a luxury of the rich, as the working poor cannot afford to easily substitute their low-grade meats with higher-priced proteins.

Vegetarianism, even part-time, is on the rise among all classes, especially the working classes and working poor which constitute the majority of the nation. This is largely because many people maintain small backyard gardens while eggs and dairy products are relatively inexpensive, meaning cutting meat out of the diet is sometimes a sensible choice for working families looking to reduce costs.
