[Hagston]

Hagston is named after the sacred Mountains of Haarg, which cross between the border of the two former nations that unified to make Hagston (Haphvaard and Gasbarn)

[Philosocom]

"Philosocom" is a combination of Philosophy and Communications. To make it sound memorable, the site's address ends with a dot com. It could've been named after Mr. Rubinshtein, but that idea was discarded as his surname is too complex to remember when typing.

I got the idea of my Nation Name from the good old game Tribes 2. If anyone remembers that game, they used to have a phrase that your character could say that was basically "Shazbot". I just added "dom" to the back of it and BOOM. Shazbotdom was born.

[Kaizo Beikoku]

Kaizo is typically used in the context of ROM hacked games, but generically in Japanese refers to "shuffled" or "reorganized". "Beikoku" means America. This name was chosen because my country's timeline follows a story where the US, Japan, and several other small Oceanic/East Asian states formed a united trading bloc, and became increasingly reliant on each other until they formed, effectively, a singular nation. The trade capital operating out of Pittsburgh is why America is the one represented in the name, but Japanglish still remains the most common form of communication.

[The Astrocracy]

My nation is supposed to be a galaxy-wide empire particularly inspired by the one from Star Wars. Thus, I combined the the prefix astro- (relating to stars or celestial bodies) with the suffix -ocracy, which relates to government. Thus, The Astrocracy, a "government/reign by the stars"

[Kashimura]

In the ancient times of the Yomese Empire, in the early years of the Japanese peoples, huli jing foxes immigrated from China to Japan. Belief in such creatures infused the native fox population of Japan with magic enough to evolve into kitsune, which shared much similarity with huli jing as well as Korea’s gumiho. From these foxes arose a schism of intent, some choosing to serve the gods, some remaining neutral, and other choosing instead to align with evil. The evil kitsune escaped to the hellscape of Yomi, a haven for demons and youkai. They established a small unnamed outpost in the wastes to exchange their services in various trades, and grew in both size and popularity. Upon becoming an entire village of vulpine illusionists, such that it required its own government and name, it chose to be known as the Village (mura) of the Changed (kashi), a place for visitors to engage in all manner of hedonism. This name was symbolic of not only the kitsune’s ability to transform (kashi), but of all the other malevolent spirits (ayakashi) providing their patronage.

Six decades ago, in the late 1940s and early 1950s, a great civil war besieged Kashimura. After victory by the revolutionaries, another nation loyal to the old order detonated one of the most destructive missiles on the state of Kashimura. This leveled much of the city and evaporated most of the population. After the enemy nation was subdued by powers sympathetic to the revolutionaries, a new city was founded on top of the ruins of the old. This city would officially be named Sakai (border) after its primary function in the land of Yomi: to serve as the border between life and death.

Kashimura OOC: I added the “mura” village suffix at the end of the “kashi”, which I then retrofitted from “ayakashi”. I forgot what the original was, so that information was canonically blown up by a nuclear bomb. It used to be some combination of “death” and something else, probably along the lines of “the edge of death”.
Sakai OOC: I came across it looking for where I got the “kashi” from and it was a chance to differentiate the country from its sister state, Tanamura.

The name Frankesha is a play on France and Frankish people also Frankeshan people with german culture. Also our currency = Stein is a play on Frankenstein, hence: Frankeshan Stein.

The etymology of the nation "Crossoveria" comes from the multi-crossover population of cartoons and fictional characters, as crossovers are common in cartoons.

The name Zhouran or 周然 (Zhōurán) originated from the Kangyulic Juulan. The actual origin and meaning of the name is unknown, but is said to derive from proto-Kangyulic.

It comes from gods in an ancient religion that originated in our country. Exeter and Eversince. Exeter is the god of Gain, and Eversince is the god of Loss.

[Tsiyaou]

It essentially comes from the chinese word 自由 and Is pronounced in Cantonese, it means "Liberty"

IC however tsiyaou is instead the old Chinese word, that's basically the only major language change

[Razum Collective]

Our nation’s name is an Anglicized version of “kollektivnyy razum” which means hivemind in Russian. Hivemind collectivism emerged in the Soviet Union and became the ideology of the government. We then changed our name from “ Советский союз”(Soviet Union) to “Коллективный Разум”(Razum Collective or Hivemind)

[The Enlightened Regenerationist State]

Enlightened Regenerationism comes from the Neo-Enlightened Movement, a fictional artistic and political movement that began in Brazil in the early 1930s. The Enlighteners, as they called themselves, considered themselves to be the successors of the 18th century Enlightenment. The Enlighteners overthrew the government and installed an artisticracy that opposed everything they deemed as "retrograde" or "idolist", where artists, writers, philosophers, scientists, and actors took the place held by oligarchs and ordinary politicians. In 1937 the Enlightened Regenerationist State of Brazil was established. The regenerationist part means that the state will try to regenerate humanity into "uber-humanity" through unorthodox artistic, scientific, and spiritual means. Enlightened has two meanings: that the state is illuminated by the lightning of Tupã, which serves as a guiding force through the darkness that is Earth and the universe; and that the country is illuminated by the brilliant minds of its intelligentsia.

Nantuvia came about due to a large revolt against the government of a previously existing nation, and the leader of that revolt was named Gaius Nantuvius. Initially, Nantuvius intended to keep the name of the country he was revolting against, that being Portivia, but just install a different state.

This did not prove to be feasible, however, because the revolution was long and hard and Nantuvius' regime would be a separate entity ruling over different territory than the Portivian government since the intention was that the revolution would be accomplished by gradually taking Portivian territory over the course of three decades. As such, when revolt was officially declared in 1305, the revolutionaries called themselves "Nantuvians" for simplicity, and this pretty much stuck until the name of Nantuvius' new state was officially declared to be Nantuvia in 1309.
