Pretty self-explanatory. Is there any symbolism in your flag? If so, what?

For an example mine can be found here

Orange = Upvote Button, represents National Pride, Military Honor, and Sacrifice.
White = Space in the middle (Although Dark Mode is popular on Reddit, I used white because white is more attractive on a triband flag than black (no racism intended)
Blue = Downvote Button, represents a hope for the Chanic Peoples to repopulate and a hope for peace between the Normies and the Chans.

Clover = Luck of the Chanic Peoples to survive
Black = Death of the Chanic Empire

Blue - The blue as used in the field of the flag is considered the traditional colour of Aikoland and has symbolised the monarchy and later the nation since at least the 14th century.

Fleur-de-lis - The three fleurs-de-lis are officially intended to symbolise Île-d'Aiko, Île-de-Saun, and Île-de-Boullién, the three states of Aikoland. However, they are also considered to symbolise the Catholic heritage of our nation and people. (A popular misconception is that they also symbolise the monarchy, as our nation's coat of arms also depicts three fleurs-de-lis on it, but the ones depicted on the coat of arms are in a different arrangement than on the flag, having two smaller ones on top and a larger one at the bottom rather than one large one at the top and two smaller ones on the bottom)

The blue areas represent the day, the black areas represent the night, and the white circle represents both the sun and moon. The flag relates to the motto of the country, and the name of voindi translates of "Sun kingdom"

The red and black colour scheme was simply lifted from the ancom flag, though from there it gets more interesting.

The lower half of the map, the section with three black stripes, symbolizes agricultural land. The central circle symbolizes the sun, rising over that land - a symbolic phrase often used by the revolutionaires that led to anarchic Cirrikh's founding was "red sun". The gear that surrounds the sun symbolizes the industrialization and modernization that allowed the revolution to happen.

The diagonal through line is borrowed from the typical ancom flag as well, though, the lower portion on the left symbolizes the coastal nature of the region, dipping below sea level, and the upper portion on the right is symbolic of expansion and growth.

Overall really complicated messaging in the flag, so it was best to stick to two colours.

Apparently a testament to the sordid and laughable fact that you aren't a real Goth unless you sack Rome. (Don't mind the avatar, it's just also self-explanatory)

- The central symbol: It is the Decepticon Seal, which represents us and our Way.
- Red eyes: They mean that we are active, alive, and sapient. When a Cybertronian is "on" and conscious, his eyes light up. Decepticons have red eyes.
- Dark blue Seal: We believe this color, against the black, lets other nations know that we aren't overly friendly, and that they'd better watch out.
- Black background: It symbolizes that we dominate the entire universe. While other creatures may exist under our dominion, there are no other powers besides us. This is a future-looking symbolism that refers to when we achieve our goal of total domination of the universe. This goal is also stated in our national motto.

The colours blue and red officially represent peace and patriotism, respectively, though they are also popularly taken to symbolise the two main linguistic communities of the nation (English and Spanish). The sun in the centre of the flag is inspired by the Inca god Inti, and represents freedom, as well as paying tribute to the nation's indigenous peoples.

Wochaystein wrote:The flag of Wochaystein is called the Grüner-Jagiellonian flag, and was chosen because of the simple choice of colors.

Diarcesia wrote:A vestigial theocratic empire with its emperor also head of its church, the colors were inspired by the house of Phönizien. The golden cross is for Christianity and the illumination of the word of God. The purple is the color of the Phönizien emperors, and it is a remembrance of the Holy Empire at its height. The orange background represents the intensity of their zeal, just like how the sunrise extinguishes the darkness. The emblem stands for their natural resources being blessed by the cleansing flame.

Purple: Creativity and wisdom
White: Peace and perfection
Red: Power and passion

The current flag is a mixture of the Borealian flag with the Celestian one. Both flags had a white color, while the purple element belonged to the Borealian flag. The red cross was a part of the Celestian flag.

OOC:

This topic comes up every so often, with a new thread started 1-2x per year. They also get resurrected fairly often due to new posters finding them. An old thread pops back to the front page when it is posted in again. The one that was just showing fairly recently (other than this one) was actually started quite a while ago.

Personally, I answer every so often, but there are times when flag-meaning threads come in quick succession. Then I usually only bother to post in one or two. If the thread is old enough, I might find that I had already posted in it three or so years ago!

It is a perennially interesting topic, and it makes sense for there to be a new thread every year or so because many of the nations in the old threads have gone inactive or changed their flags. New ones help keep us updated.

Standard symbolism inherent in the Hammer and Sickle. Workers and peasants together against the owning class and so forth. Red for socialism, gold for our glorious golden age post-revolution.

Officially, the Azanian flag is described as "a synopsis of principal elements of the country's flag history." Although different people may attribute personal symbolism to the individual colours or colour combinations, no universal symbolism should be attached to any of the colours. The only symbolism in the flag is the fork shape, which can be interpreted as "the convergence of diverse elements within Azanian society, taking the road ahead in unity".

This has allowed for multiple interpretations of the flag's colours and symbolism.

One interpretation is that the green stands for the land of Azania, the yellow stands for the country's mineral wealth, blue stands for the oceans surrounding the country, white stands for peace between Azania's various peoples, black stands for the country's Black African population, and orange stands for the country's White population. For various reasons, this interpretation is not popular and has garnered much criticism. The association of colours with racial groups is seen as inappropriate since it leaves a large number of the population (such as Coloureds/Mixed Race, Asians, Khoisan peoples, and English-speaking Azanians who do not consider orange to represent them) without representation. Additionally, it violates the government's official stand of nonracialism, under which the government seeks to move away from race as a distinguishing factor.

Another interpretation, this one also involving the flag's colours, is that green stands for the land (or, alternatively, the country's biodiverse natural environment), blue stands for water (Azania's most precious resource), black and yellow together symbolise the land's mineral wealth (yellow representing mineral resources and black representing the land whence they were extracted), white representing peace, and orange representing the sun.
