Xanthal is a nation quite far removed from our world in both place and time; this requires a subtle but significant shift in how the four axes are measured to appropriately reflect what they mean in context. The Economic axis has been more narrowly defined to reflect government involvement in the economy: strictly speaking it is measuring hands-on versus hands-off, though the implications regarding equality are still mostly applicable from the original framework. The Diplomatic axis no longer indicates a preference for hard or soft power, instead measuring positive engagement with the international community. The Civil axis is basically unchanged in spirit, though emphasis has been added to the increasing potential of one person's liberty to impinge on the liberties of others and vice-versa as one moves toward either end of the scale. The Societal axis has had its labels changed, also it is now religion- and technology-agnostic and measures simple amenability to altering fundamental sociopolitical power structures and the moral principles they shape.

Economic: how heavy government's hand ought to be on the levers of the economy. A Centrist will generally support taxation and rulemaking to address acute excesses and deficits or promote moderate goals like economic access and consumer protection, but not to fundamentally alter economic imperatives. A position left of center indicates a desire to change economic priorities and/or outcomes to favor what the government deems the collective good, and an increasing willingness to use taxation, regulation, and/or direct control to that end. At far left the government owns and exercises full command of production and distribution of goods and services. A position right of center indicates increasing faith in the market and reluctance to impose limits on economic behavior. At far right there are effectively no restrictions on the free exchange of legal goods and services, and no taxation of income or property.
Economic axis: Communist - Socialist - Social - Centrist - Market - Capitalist - Laissez-faire

Diplomatic: involvement in and responsiveness to international institutions, and fellowship with other countries. A Balanced approach regards the home country as a distinct- but not singular- entity among many; taking a pragmatic, case-by-case approach to others on the basis of coinciding and conflicting interests. A position left of center suggests an attitude of exceptionalism, disdain for other cultures, and increasing disinterest in outside institutions and people beyond their utility to the homeland. At far left the home country's interests override those of all others, giving it the right to act against them with no outside approval or additional justification. A position right of center suggests an attitude of solidarity with other countries and peoples, increasing participation in and deference to international bodies, and/or willingness to respect or defend foreign cultures or interests. At far right, legitimate transnational authorities are understood to supersede national ones and outside concerns are given parity with those of the home country.
Diplomatic axis: Chauvinist - Nationalist - Patriotic - Balanced - Peaceful - Internationalist - Cosmopolitan

Civil: the extent of people's right to control their own bodies, think and express themselves freely, and conduct their lives without monitoring or interference by the state. A Moderate broadly seeks to balance individual freedoms against the wellbeing of the group and the authority of the state. A position left of center signifies increasing discomfort with surveillance and an inclination to sacrifice the interests of the group and/or state to preserve individual liberty; it also tends to indicate a philosophy of individualism. At far left the state exercises no authority over what someone may say or do, even to protect life or property. A position right of center signifies an inclination to sacrifice individual liberties to promote the interests of the group and/or state, and decreasing privacy protection to enforce those restrictions; it also tends to indicate a philosophy of collectivism. At far right all personal acts are directed by the state and individuality is suppressed in favor of a group mentality, maintained under strict surveillance.
Civil axis: Anarchist - Libertarian - Liberal - Moderate - Authoritarian - Statist - Totalitarian

Societal: willingness to enact fundamental change to the established values, morals, and power structure of society in pursuit of a higher goal. A Neutral position gives equal weight to the comfort and stability of establishment and tradition against the need for evolution, rejecting change for change's sake but open to a credible promise of positive reform. A position left of center implies confidence in the existing order and a distrust of transformational policies. At far left social policy is solely an instrument to preserve and perpetuate the present system. A position right of center implies faith in the power of change to enrich, invigorate, and/or advance society, and/or irreverence for the status quo. At far right the imperative for change demands revolution targeting all levels of society, potentially including the state itself.
