Do you remember?

This is a solemn place.

These are solemn words.

Those days that won't ever be forgotten.
Some of them were bright and happy.
Some of them were dark and stormy.

Those feelings that can't ever be replaced.
Ecstasy and love.
Jealousy and hate.
Sadness and loss.
Longing.
Reunion.
Melancholy.
Humanity.

These are the eternal memories and emotions of 634-86-11.

Please, listen if you have time.
Listen with your heart, if you can.

And learn from our mistake.

Year 0, 5th month, 3rd day
15 days before declaration of war

Weather: Clear skies, sunny. Warm.

It's nice to meet you, journal.

With her monthly wages, mother bought me this new journal as a gift for my soon to be graduation from school. I think it's the perfect gift, although she says I write far too much for a young girl who's barely seventeen. I must agree with her complaint, since I am spending my days indoors often even when friends visit. Yet, there's not much else for someone like me to be doing before entering the university except wait for term to begin. In the coming long and hot summer, I suppose this diary shall become my good companion. There will be a lot of time to write in here, so I won't take too long today. Until later!

Year 0, 5th month, 15th day
3 days before declaration of war

Weather: Clouds obscuring the sun. Hot.

Hello again, dear journal.

I suppose now is as good a time as any to introduce myself and family. As I said previously, I'm a seventeen year old who's about to graduate from school and enter university. My hair is brown and shoulder length, and my eyes are brown as well. I have two parents, a mother and a father, as well as an older brother and younger sister. Mother is a more straightforward lady, while father is silent. Older brother is remarkably mature for his age. Oh, did I mention my younger sister is only 4 years old? She's a lot smaller than my brother and I, in fact my brother was born only two years before me. Mother works in an administrative position, while father is a factory manager. Older brother is still in university, studying chemistry. I'm a bit envious of his science skills to be honest.

Speaking of science, that's one of my least favorite subjects. I was always bad at chemistry and biology. Don't even talk to me about physics, please. Though I like to think of myself as a diligent student, I was never able to memorize the endless formulas, equations, and laws in the sciences. Thankfully, I won't need to learn much more science beyond the necessary courses once I enter university, since my program will have nothing to do with them.

But I digress. Besides my family, I also care a lot about some of my dear friends from school. [Elizabeth] and [Sophia] are my two best friends. We've been through everything together for many years now, ever since we met each other in primary school. Crying, laughing, sleeping, eating, consoling, cheering; there isn't anything we haven't done together in the 12 years since then. In fact, I don't think we've ever been apart for more than a few days at most. Obviously, we're going to the same university as well. Elizabeth is planning to study biology, while Sophia is going to focus in history. As for me, I will be studying management.

Well, that's all I'll write for today. It's time for me to sleep, so good night for now!

Weather: Extremely hot. No wind.

Dear journal,

Our country, [XXX], is going to war. Can you believe it? I didn't think that was actually happening until father came home from his workplace this evening and told us the news. We don't know quite why yet, but we'll look forward to the nightly report.

I hope this war won't last too long. I'll write more tomorrow after finding out the cause of war.
