Mizushima Miya glanced up at Fukushima Sonoko, who had just made the remark. They were both reading the official Sanghyeok factbooks on both the nation and the immortal chair, Ōmiya Sakura, with the intent to apply for the Ōmiya Approval Index.

"Not necessary? How so?" Miya asked. She gave another look at the map, which showed the United Socialist Federation of Sanghyeok encompassing the entire globe.

"If Sanghyeok controls the entire planet," Fukushima said with a slight huff and crossed arms. "What good is it to have a map of the country's borders? There are no border!"

Miya shrugged. "When engaging in multiversal diplomacy, it can be nice to know which planet earth we're talking about," Miya said, and she pointed to the blank ocean southeast of Japan. "For example, this planet earth has no Baizou-jima. Curious, isn't it?"

Fukushima sniffed, and she recrossed her arms. "Troubling, is more like it. I'm starting to worry something's wrong with our version of planet earth," she said. "Ours seems to be the only one that has the island."

Miya's lips quirked into a smile. "I actually kind of like that. It's nice to be unique, and it means we're what makes our entire planet special. Don't you feel important, now?" Miya asked.

Fukushima didn't have any comeback for that, and her expression morphed slowly into a mild smile. "Well... I guess it isn't all bad," she said. "But Mizushima, are you sure this index is worth our time? It's not about international diplomacy; just personal acquaintanceship."

Miya nodded. "It'll only take a few minutes, so it's hardly a waste," she said. "Plus, Sanghyeok is very active on the international scene. I keep running into Ōmiya at functions in Forum Seven."

"What do you do in that forum, anyway?" Fukushima asked. "I'm not so sure the Foreign Service Division can afford reimbursing all these flights back and forth—"

"And don't you want to have a planet on your good side?" Miya asked, bowling past Fukushima's question. "Or at least, don't you want to know whether or not we're on the Chairwoman's bad side? Besides, I deserve a break after researching Baizou's application to the Development Index."

"Am I supposed to have been keeping track of how much tea or coffee I drink?" Fukushima asked.

"Just estimate," Miya said.

She glanced back over the applications once more and added, "Well, it looks like there's nothing else to do but submit. Hopefully we gain the Chair's favor."

"Hopefully we don't lose her respect," Fukushima murmured. "Should I round down my coffee consumption? Will that much coffee offend her?"

"Premier, this is just a question of personal approval," Miya insisted. "Even if Chairwoman Ōmiya decides not to invite you to tea, I'm sure she won't let that interfere with diplomatic considerations." Miya paused to think for a moment longer. "Though you really do drink a lot of coffee, especially for a Baizoan."

"I'm tired every morning!" Fukushima defended.

"I'm tired, too," Miya said. "But I just brew a cup of mugicha and eat a nice, crisp apple..."

When I started writing this, I didn't realize that you were in the process of updating soon. If you're not able to include Baizou's premier and ambassador in the update because of this being short notice, no worries! "You know, I'm not sure the map is really necessary."

Mizushima Miya glanced up at Fukushima Sonoko, who had just made the remark. They were both reading the official Sanghyeok factbooks on both the nation and the immortal chair, Ōmiya Sakura, with the intent to apply for the Ōmiya Approval Index.

"Not necessary? How so?" Miya asked. She gave another look at the map, which showed the United Socialist Federation of Sanghyeok encompassing the entire globe.

"If Sanghyeok controls the entire planet," Fukushima said with a slight huff and crossed arms. "What good is it to have a map of the country's borders? There are no border!"

Miya shrugged. "When engaging in multiversal diplomacy, it can be nice to know which planet earth we're talking about," Miya said, and she pointed to the blank ocean southeast of Japan. "For example, this planet earth has no Baizou-jima. Curious, isn't it?"

Fukushima sniffed, and she recrossed her arms. "Troubling, is more like it. I'm starting to worry something's wrong with our version of planet earth," she said. "Ours seems to be the only one that has the island."

Miya's lips quirked into a smile. "I actually kind of like that. It's nice to be unique, and it means we're what makes our entire planet special. Don't you feel important, now?" Miya asked.

Fukushima didn't have any comeback for that, and her expression morphed slowly into a mild smile. "Well... I guess it isn't all bad," she said. "But Mizushima, are you sure this index is worth our time? It's not about international diplomacy; just personal acquaintanceship."

Miya nodded. "It'll only take a few minutes, so it's hardly a waste," she said. "Plus, Sanghyeok is very active on the international scene. I keep running into Ōmiya at functions in Forum Seven."

"What do you do in that forum, anyway?" Fukushima asked. "I'm not so sure the Foreign Service Division can afford reimbursing all these flights back and forth—"

"And don't you want to have a planet on your good side?" Miya asked, bowling past Fukushima's question. "Or at least, don't you want to know whether or not we're on the Chairwoman's bad side? Besides, I deserve a break after researching Baizou's application to the Development Index."

"Am I supposed to have been keeping track of how much tea or coffee I drink?" Fukushima asked.

"Just estimate," Miya said.

As for economics, I believe essential services, such as healthcare, the Internet, education, public transportation, utilities (especially access to water), and more are best as public goods, overseen by the public through the government as socialized industries. However, other sectors of the economy can be given market freedom, within the limitations of anti-trust laws and workers' rights.

Tea and coffee score: Yes, I do drink more tea than coffee. I should confess, though, that I don't drink leaf teas. I mostly have barley tea and herbal teas.
Sweets consumption: It's not my best habit, but I usually have a small dessert each day.
Directness score: A bit direct.
Type of ideology: Baizoan Marxists call for accountable democracy and robust political and social freedom. All industry should be transitioned to socialized enterprises, with the ultimate goal of placing the means of production under the control of the laborers who work them.
Cosplay/dolls: I've never quite worked the nerve to do cosplay publicly, though I have considered it.
Fashion sense: I do my best. Although I am not able to purchase it on a public servant's salary, I think the Islington coat and the béret in your Fall collection look lovely.

"I don't think I've ever seen you in a hat," Fukushima observed aloud.

"I don't usually wear hats to work, but I might like a hat to wear for an evening out, or to a more formal event," Miya said, half-thinking out loud. She glanced back over the applications once more and added, "Well, it looks like there's nothing else to do but submit. Hopefully we gain the Chair's favor."

"Hopefully we don't lose her respect," Fukushima murmured. "Should I round down my coffee consumption? Will that much coffee offend her?"

"Premier, this is just a question of personal approval," Miya insisted. "Even if Chairwoman Ōmiya decides not to invite you to tea, I'm sure she won't let that interfere with diplomatic considerations." Miya paused to think for a moment longer. "Though you really do drink a lot of coffee, especially for a Baizoan."

"I'm tired every morning!" Fukushima defended.

"I'm tired, too," Miya said. "But I just brew a cup of mugicha and eat a nice, crisp apple..."

OOC: When I started writing this, I didn't realize that you were in the process of updating soon. If you're not able to include Baizou's premier and ambassador in the update because of this being short notice, no worries! These were fun questions were fun to answer and a nice change of pace from the usual indices.

Ōmiya was enjoying teatime, leisurely drinking some Darjeeling- her fifth cup of the day, prepared with milk and sugar as always- when Ms. Suzuki walked in with a quizzical expression on her face.

"Chairwoman", Ōmiya's most trusted assistant said, her tone almost disbelieving. "Have you been sending out some sort of...approval index recently?"

Ōmiya's but of course look as she tilted her head slightly said it all.

"Your actions are going to irk the Supreme Council sooner or later, Chairwoman", Suzuki said as if trying to reprimand. "What will foreign governments think when they see you disapprove of their leader? Our ambassadors might be forced into awkward positions, we'll receive no end of questioning by the press and People's Congress, and the Socialism and Peace Party will never win an election again."

"You worry too much, Suzuki", Ōmiya replied, as she swilled the cup slightly before drinking the last of the Darjeeling. "Would you like a cup?" she asked, offering to pour some from the teapot. "Today's first-steep has been excellent. Refreshing, mild, smooth. Even the fragrance is second to none. I must really send my compliments to the chef."

Chisaki sighed. "Darjeeling aside, you need to think of the consequences of your actions once in a while. The New Communist Party still hasn't stopped criticising you as a "reactionary" for your meeting with the Azur Twins"

"One who opposes revolution is reactionary. One who supports revolution in both words and actions is a revolutionary. I do not oppose revolutionary principles, nor have I ever acted against them."

"That's not my point, Chairwoman" Chisaki said, somewhat exasperated. "A one-day tea party two months ago is still leaving a shadow on your leadership."

"Two months is nothing in the scheme of things. I have been living for nearly nine centuries now, I can endure someone calling me a traitor for a few days in exchange for having time with friends." Ōmiya paused. "Are you sure you don't want a scone? They've been made perfectly today, as always." She moved her arm towards the now nearly empty cake tray, as if in invitation.

Chisaki made a I suppose there's nothing I can do to convince you, is there? gesture with her arms, and opened her mouth halfway before thinking the better of it. The Chairwoman really acts like a child sometimes, she thought. But I suppose in her mind, I am the child. Even if I live another two centuries, she will still have lived five times my age.

When Chisaki finally spoke, she had returned to her normal calm self. "Anyways...apparently some delegates from a nation named Baizou replied to your approval survey."

"Baizou? Are they an alternate China?"

"No, an island with strong Japanese influences that also happens to hold an odd type of technology in high regard. I found some more information on them in the realm holo-dex, if you'd like to take a look." She handed over the files to Ōmiya, who accepted them with a nod.

It was now Ōmiya's turn to raise an eyebrow as she read more about this strange nation. "That is indeed interesting. A planet almost identical to ours, except with the addition of the landmass they name "Baizou-jima. I've seen many variations of Earth across the universes: those with a reversed magnetic pole, those still made of a single supercontinent, those with sea levels six metres lower. But I've never seen Baizou-jima before."

"Oh yes, I had almost forgotten. Here are the responses to your index."

Ōmiya looked over them once, reading about the interesting habits of this Premier Fukushima and Ambassador Mizushima. And then, she began to write her response.
