Bloodshade Bureau of Foreign Inquiries || IC & OOC

Postby Bloodshade » Sun Sep 20, 2020 2:37 pm

Purpose

This thread shall serve as a bridge between Bloodshade and any polity that may find the need to inquire about any aspects of Bloodshade and its characters. IC questions could touch upon Bloodhade itself and what attitudes it may contain or you may have a question directed to a character of mine. If they're in a factbook, you can most certainly feel free to ask a question about them and I'll respond in an in-character fashion but be as creative as you want with your questions. I'll try my best to answer in a timely and satisfactory manner. If you wish, you can also ask me OOC questions. I'm not opposed. Just don't be a melt and ask me for my social security number and we'll be good to go. Please be specific about whether your question is IC or OOC. I'm not very smart. However, I'm smart enough to not respond to 'What do you think about (insert information about your nation)" questions. Look, F7 has plenty of threads for people to give you opinions about whatever you want so please don't come asking me for opinions.

Important Information

All important information can be found in my signiture but for the sake of convenience, here are the factbooks that you might want to consult to form up an idea of what Bloodshade and its face are.

"Alright, so I have a general question about the culture of Bloodshade. Would y'all say the culture/people of Bloodshade generally views sapients as equal and just each having their own role in life or do they believe some individuals are better than others? I mean this in a general sense, by the way."

"Oh no! Not in a trillion years would we dabble or entertain any form of elitism, xenophobia and supremacism. Sure, some races might have a few traits that might be seen as beneficial but at the end of the day, everyone starts from the same floor.

A Lahmian has the most efficient oxygen carriers running through their veins among many other attributes, making them the most endurant race within Bloodshade. A Lumittu has the capability to withstand temperatures all the way down to -70°C! You get what I'mt trying to say. At the end of the day, all sentient races are seen as equals and everyone can pursue whatever career or path in life they want. We would never discriminate on the basis of race. In fact, diversity's one of our strengths! Bloodshade's a salad bowl, rather than a melting pot, of races and cultures. From my own perspective, it's healthier that way."

“As much as I would like to spend this entire message calling your nation a self-confessed bowl of salad, I do, believe it or not, have some actual questions to ask. So, here goes:

1. Naosu and I have been talking a bit, and there’s a few biological questions I’m putting together here. Firstly, according to what we know, the Lahmian species uses a kind of oxygen-binding protein to sustain its endurance. Does that protein still function in other species, such as humans, or would it just get rejected? Secondly, if you love biting so much- no, you’re still not getting near Kurushimi- does that cause a lot of disease problems for you? You know, injecting your sickened saliva into the bloodstream like a walking diseased mosquito? Just curious.

2. On a related noted, look. I’m not going to complain about your inherent sadism, I can’t talk there, but is it really healthy to have a society so dominated by people who find it satisfying to manipulate the emotions of others with their natural abilities? And how far is too far when it comes to these things? Surely you have something in place to prevent that getting too out of hand? Or are you really that anarchic?

3. And how far can that logically go, anyway, ignoring legal or moral restrictions? Just how much free will can you take away with that ability alone? The Himitsu no Shakai wants to know. I want to know too. There are some lines that should not be crossed...

4. This one is specifically addressed to Victoria. I know you understand the value of tyranny. I know you see authority as necessary in a criss. At what point does a problem cross the line into crisis? At what point do you start being reasonable?

5. ...so. Here’s a moral question for you. Ambrosia, I mean. So. Speaking of crossing lines...at what point is there no return for someone, in your view? When is someone irredeemable? ...I’ve been thinking about these things too much lately...

Anyway. Those are my questions. I know neither of us- any of us?- whatever, I know none of us are exactly fond of each other. But you did offer answers, so I’m hoping to get them.”

"In a human? Well, perchance? We've never truly tested such a thought out. Matter of fact, I highly doubt it would work. You don't see people splicing lizard genes in order to grow back a leg in the same way we don't decide to human oxygen carriers with our own. Reckless scientific experiments such as that only result in a quick death for one. It's not just like in the movies. One has to take into account multiple factors for why and how Lahmians have evolved in the way they have while humans evolved in a totally separate fashion. Life in the universe might perhaps originate from one base source but our ancient ancestors differ greatly from humanity's. You'd be playing with millions and millions of years of evolution. In short, no it wouldn't!

Now as for the practice of hematophagy, of course it does! That's like asking if having a nose allows one to suffer from airborne disease! It is most certainly a dangerous threat to Lahmian health but fortunately, hematophagy seems to be dying out in style and nutritional standards have vastly improved. Mind you, we don't just dip into each other's necks and wrists to drink blood. Well, not anymore at least. I hope you've benefited from my answer but mind your manners next time! A bit of courtesy can mean a lot these days...

"Whoa whoa whoa! Hold your horses, first of all, correction! I like being on the receiving end but that's none of your business. Second of all, think about it this way. If everyone can manipulate another's emotions, then no one can manipulate another's emotions. Lahmians can't effectively use their natural capabilities to fool other Lahmians. However, if it's a cross-species violation, then such cases of domestic violence, manipulation and neglect are promptly dealt with. If you're talking about our psionic or as some would specifically say, Daourinic capabilities, then let me say that it is awfully difficult to hide one's misdeeds. We're all sensitive to such waves and completely understand what another's intentions might be. It's like shooting a flare in the middle of an ocean and if that flare's the wrong type? Well, consider them eaten up. We know full-well the extent of our abilities. We lost our ancient home-world partly due to its destructive capabilities. No one wants to repeat that at any scale and its permanent part of our culture.

With great power comes great responsibility and all that razzle dazzle! If that fails, law enforcement and specialised task forces are sent to deal with the troublemakers. No matter how proficient one thinks they might be, a melding of technology, policing tactics and psionics will almost always win the day. Come on sweetie, we're not that thick.

"Still at it? Huh? How about I take this one...Well, the worst one could is completely and utterly dominate a person's mind, removing any semblance of free will or character. You can restructure their personality however you may like. You could practically create your own Pandora if that's what you want.

But don't get too excited...This is extremely rare. You either have to have a tremendous gap of power, torture the victim until their willpower slowly get chipped away through physical means along with environmental effects. Torture, to put it simply. Many hours of it. Of course...the last person who tried it, well, rest assured, he's not with us anymore...Let's just say my institution dealt with him and I have to say, I was very proud of my boys and girls.

"I'm not sure if you're trying to cosy up to me but let me set one thing straight, the state is an oppressive tool from the get-go. Every state dabbles in a concept known as state capacity. The higher it is, the more capable a state is in collecting taxes, implement and enact laws and provide public goods and services. Agreed? Now then, it's awfully simple to me. When a state's bureaucratic system and rule of law is maliciously or violently threatened, only then should a strongman or woman come in to restore the status quo of the previous regime but then again, one can't always be successful and regimes change throughout history. Such is life...

Don't peg me as some sort of fool! I know the inner workings of a state more than you could ever wish to know, girl!

"That's an awfully difficult...and odd question coming from you out of all people..Urgh...well, it truly depends on the amount of unnecessary suffering one commits, how long it's been committed for and most importantly, why? Frankly, I've been extremely inconsistent on this matter and there's just no easy answer to that. Then again, I despise one sentence: "Morality is subjective". Sometimes, people don't deserve forgiveness. Their actions have already spoken for themselves and simply put, actions speak louder than words. One has to pay back their debt of evil with overwhelming goodness but again, it's not that simple. Sometimes, people need guidance. Other times...and as uncharacteristic as this might sound...they need a bullet to the head. I think you know where I stand when it comes to you and I'm an awfully stubborn lady to convince."

"Greetings... It has been a while since I participate in asking questions, as opposed to, well, answering. Without much distraction, allow me to place my question: I have been trying to study without much success the concepts of socioeconomic class and aristocracy in Bloodshade and its territories. To my understanding, it appears as not rigidly defined by official references, like how Zitravian nobility was determined by Table of Rank before the Revolution. Still, I find it that the further a society progresses, the more vague the lines between social classes become. Is this assumption correct for Bloodshade itself?"

"Also adding this second question: how do you see yourself and your nation ten years or a hundred years from now on? I might or might not live long enough to witness my own world in the next hundred years, but I am certain that you will, given the longevity of your people."

"Well, it's rather simple really. The advent of faster-than-light technology opens up all kinds of opportunities for an entire social class's upheaval. Of course, there's also great opportunity for vast gaps of wealth inequality so to be completely honest with you, there's a bit of...redistribution when it comes to the wealth of those at the top. Nothing too serious, I assure you. Just a simple, blanket progressive tax rate. It's rather draconian but it's not like the upper class are going to be missing a few billions or trillions that'll be repurposed for the good of society.

Before you go jumping to conclusions, we most certainly believe in the concept of private businesses. Multi-spatial conglomerates do exist within our borders but simply put, we just don't let them do whatever they want. It's understood that businesses, at the end of the day, ultimately seek profit which is a set-in-stone goal which Bloodshade is not interested in changing.

Now when it comes to the aristocracy, the authorities don't recognise any royal family but there are thousands of noble bloodlines throughout Bloodshade but unless you can cash in on that somehow, it won't matter whatsoever. The 'new aristocracy' as I might like to call it are usually those obscenely rich tech gurus, musicians and actors. Kali's a good example but I don't want to rain on her. She's a good girl with a heart of gold. She's one of the rare few who use their wealth for the public good.

I think I've rambled on for a bit too much but in regards to social class, we do have the traditional working, middle and upper class but the most important thing is that the social ladder is much more accessible to the masses and our eyes are more focused on keeping the populace from reaching the bottom of the barrel, ensuring or well, attempting to ensure decent living standards for everyone.

"Whoa! A hundred years? You know, I've always thought about that but frankly, I'm not sure what kinds of technology will be available to us in ten years even but in a hundred? There's always been a growing want to form an economic and martial league with our neighbours, maybe that might be achieved soon?

Maybe we might have a few more colonies under our grasp but still, I don't think think anyone's going to be veering away from Yvresse any time soon. Compared to human civilisations, we think of ourselves as the Venetians of the future!

"Well, there is that grilled lemon Auroch meat that everyone loves to dig into at 1 PM every day! You could also go for creamy Auroch Noctillini pasta with crispy mushrooms...Hum, steamed spiced fish cutlets are a delicacy too! Valyrian dumplings are fantastic too and they're generally stuffed with cheese, seafood, fowl or Auroch! That's all I can think of as of right now but there are plenty more variations of the dishes I've just mentioned!"

- Countess Ambrosia von Carstein

Wexas wrote:2. Are there any meals considered more 'refined', whether it be due to expense or cultural norms?

"Well, the only truly 'refined' dishes generally involve ingredients from plants we tend to find on the fringes of our spatial borders or the depths of Yvresse where no sane person would dip into. Dragon soup is a thing but what idiot's going to go out of their way to kill a dragon? Oh? Want Merywrm sushi? Sure! Go hunting in the depths of the sea but keep your eyes open because chances are you'll be dead before you notice it. Most 'refined' dishes involve animals that are too dangerous to hunt individually or plants that within the dens of such gargantuan creatures or flora near the fringes of known space. There is this ink-producing plant on the planet, Noctilinni, that's used as a sauce for those who can afford to travel there, delve into the jungles, get a bunch of samples then go back home. Waste of energy and money honestly. What's wrong with tomato sauce?"

"No wait, I meant... Good afternoon, Miss Carstein. Here I am again doing nothing better than bothering people on the internet. It's three in the afternoon, and it's teatime, otherwise known as 'the time I bother people for fun'. Here are some questions.
...
1. Considering that you have a far more relaxed approach to relationships than [REDACTED], have you ever been jealous? Like, when you see someone you like with someone else and feel like you deserve more attention than the other person.
2. I have known you for a while and I do take a notice that you can eat normal food, but you do not seem like a dessert kind of person. Do you like anything sweet, if at all?
3. Come now, we all know that our wardrobes probably cost more than our respective nations' GDP per capita. Do you have like 20 black dresses or something? Which item do you like best from your wardrobe? This question applies to Ms. Fiore as well, if she does not mind -- I'm especially curious about this."

"Hewwo, Miss Feodora! Awfully uncharacteristic of you to greet me like that but it's cute! Anyways, I was obviously never jealous when I engaged in polyamory and even when I dedicated my love to my sweetheart, Amy, I still don't feel any sort of jealousy at all. I trust her fully and completely. We treat each other's hearts like treasures and she's precious to me but enough, it's rude for me to gush about her, as much as I enjoy it. I'm no prude and I don't mind showing skin at all. You know just how proud I am of my body so you'll probably find me wearing outfits that make me feel comfortable or proud of my body! "Oh? Didn't know someone would ask about me. I'd be glad to share what I find to be my most favourite article of clothing and it's very simple really. I'm not too far off with how Ambrosia dresses. As far as I can see, your, um, clans- no, species, that's the word- seem to each have their own innate abilities, and those would certainly translate to warfare, but your host does not seem to differentiate between them. "I'm not...versed in the art of warfare so I'll just have to pass this one onto Victoria. She's the former officer and soldier after all. Take the wheel!"

- Countess Ambrosia von Carstein

"Have we not..."

One could hear Victoria taking a deep exasperated breath and sighing before resuming.

"Yes, we most certainly have considered that. if by mobilised, you mean riding horses while shooting beams of death then I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but give it a couple millennia and you'll find that horses have no place in military warfare any longer.

Our current specialised branch of the military are the Weltraudahsila. A branch of which I was a member of. You'll find that in more advanced societies, mobile warfare is a staple of all military branches. A turtle is only asking itself to be beaten where it stands during our time.

There is no specified doctrine as of yet due to the chaotic and consumptive nature of those innate powers. It is much easier to pull a trigger these days than to send oneself closer to insanity by drawing out their innate abilities. However, at manageable unit levels of the Difesameijala ranging from fireteams to companies, soldiers are often given the autonomy and independence to use their abilities in the event where they believe they can gain an advantage over the enemy. It simply wouldn't do well for high command to set a certain doctrine for a soldier's innate abilities.

We most certainly do not ignore such potential in our troops but we simply cannot quantify our powers in a way that does not compromise more conventional means and tactics. Of course, that's not say experienced and adept soldiers are not utilised to the their fullest extent.

If you have any more...questions, I'll be happy to educate you and as for your outfit, uh...you look neat.
"

- Director Victoria Hoffmeister

"Oh, don't mind her, she's a hard ass for a reason. Back to you though, I think you look dashing in that colourful tunic of your. Those ornate designs and fur on your front and near your armholes simply make you fit the role. A warlord with a taste for fashion! There's a first time for everything.

There's an uncomfortable amount of jewellery adorning your neck and hands. Are you sure that's wise? I mean, it's pretty but I don't think you'd want it interfering with your bow. Oh and you've got a cute Phrygian cap! All in all, you're a terrifying but good-looking woman. Oh, just noticed, you've got a cute braid.

What is your nation's stance on the sciences, especially biology and astronomy? Is evolution theory banned or promoted? Also, do people believe in geocentrism (the sun orbits the earth) or heliocentrism (the earth orbits the sun)?

(In this nation, science is frowned upon as a waste of time, and due to the government being a Catholic theocracy, evolution theory and heliocentrism are illegal. Scientists who promote those ideas end up worse than Galileo.)

"Look, mister, I don't think there are that many stances on science to pick from. You either believe in it or you don't. Science plays a major role in our day to day lives and we'd do well to respect it. There's a reason we've reached this position in the first place! Evolution is most certainly not banned. Wha..why are we supposed to ban or promote it? It's the truth. Plain and simple! Geocentrism?! What century are we in? Come to think of it, what century are you people in because there's more than just one star in our universe.

We'll gladly show you if you don't possess the capabilities! We'd be more than happy to send a few emissaries."

"I'm sure, as a civilisation, you've all had some close encounters with annihilation. From the war on Stormfels, to the struggles of migration; even now that you've settled down and prospered, peace remains hard to come by. I'm sure most of you are aware of this - your lives hardly seem bleak, but I can sense a distinct readiness for all but the worst of threats permeating the structure of your society. Precisely what is it that you so strongly wish to protect? Does it begin and end with your lives and livelihoods, or is there something alongside these, a way of living rather than a collection of lives, that you feel you must preserve?

Of course, all the bastions, voidships, and alertness in the universe will not stop everything. Death comes sooner for some and later for others, but it comes nonetheless; one day, all your efforts, struggles, and goals will meet their end. If you were to have some control over this occurrence, what would you deem an ideal death? In what manner do you wish to part from this life, and what ambitions, if any, do you feel you must fulfill before you pass on? And, lastly, should your life be cut short in this very moment, what regrets would you have in the final instants before your light is snuffed out? What wishes and dreams would you leave behind, never to be completed?"

"You're a real optimist, aren't ya? Look, I don't want my people to be nomads or slaves again. It's simple. I want to protect my people's way of life and do what I can to ensure that this persists into the future. I don't care what time or fate has in store for us. We'll be putting our foot down and we're not going anywhere. No empire, guild, numen or polity is going to take away our freedom to live our lives so don't come to me with this belief? I'm going to die someday in the far future but others will follow in my stead.

Huh, as for what I consider to be an ideal death, I just...want to have spent enough time with my loved ones. Don't ask me how long that is, I just want it to be enough. What ambitions do I have? See my nation grow and care for itself, riding the waves of this universe without me having to worry about my people being snuffed from existence.

An what would lil ol me regret, huh? A lot of things but if I'm being specific. I want to see Bloodshade establish itself among the universe at least within my lifespan and not witnessing a sliver of that fate will...I just want to see that happening once. I want to feel like I made a difference for future generations. Not be some no-name politician.

The last question makes me feel threatened but I might be wrong...in any case, I couldn't care about myself if I died. I'd care about the people who mattered to me and would be left alone without me. I'm not trying to toot my own horn but I assume that some people care about me and I don't want to leave them alone in this world. If I die, I die. I just hope people think I did my best to bring out life and love into this world.

"Oh gods, don't remind me. Yes, scepticism exists in Bloodshade. Frankly, I've been the target of many conspiracy theories that I find insulting. Some people think I'm some blood-sucking seductress who kills young, aspiring actors which is sold as the reason for why I'm such a notable actress. First of all, of course I suck blood! I'm a fucking Lahmian! We all have the ability to draw nutrients from blood meals! It's in our biology! You don't see humans eating people's flesh because it's made of protein, huh? Well, cannibals exist but they're in the minority. Crap, I'm not helping my case, am I?

As for magic, no one can really reject its existence but there are many theories for as to what it is. Everyone wants to think they're right about how Daorun came to be. Some people think it is divine in nature. Other thinks it truly is just science above our own understanding that we have yet to reach. Me? I just consider it a natural tool. I'm not going to tire myself to think about its origin or creation!

Uh, as for that last question, to be honest, I've had a decent relationship with my family. I love them and they helped support me in my career. I don't want to get Ambrosia or Victoria to answer this though. They have their own...issues. Victoria's father was an extremist an an absentee. Her mother was abusive according to her. Ambrosia's mother and father...they were just...distant and abusive. They're too rich to bother themselves with extremism and no, I don't think those two ever forgave their parents. Poor girls...

“So. It’s me again. And I have some more questions for you. I’m sure it’s the delight of your day. Look, things have been slow, I have nothing better to do. Some Densetsu wanted in as well, so here we go.

For my own questions- mainly at Ambrosia unless otherwise specified, because of course they are:

1. Why are you against marriage, exactly? Look. I’m not actually judging you on that. I have plenty of other things I can judge you on after all. But why? Bad experiences? Afraid of commitment? I’m holding myself back by not throwing certain insults at you, but I’m honestly just curious about it. ...I’ve been talking to Gikochinai too much, haven’t I? Be grateful she’s not asking anything herself.

2. How do you not trip over your own hair on a daily basis? That would be a death sentence for someone like myself. Who actually has to kill things every now and then. How does that not annoy the heck out of you?

3. Shouldn’t you be seeking help for that alcoholism? ...I know exactly what you’re going to throw back at me for this one.

4. Do you realise how tyrannical it is to indulge in the capability of replicating yourself and giving an army of yourselves commands which they obey? How does that kind of thing not unsettle you?

5. So. You know I’ve already spoken about the general mind-related capabilities of your species. But you in particular do seem to have an emphasis on that sort of thing- and it’s not something I can just ignore, even with your proclamations of how it’s supposed to all balance out in the end. Just how far are you willing to exploit that ability to manipulate consciousness? Is there ever a point where certain people prove to be just...too much? You can guess why I ask.“

-Aozora Chiyumi, Supreme Overlady of All Reality

“I offer my greetings from the Supreme Ultimate Country. As Head of Arcane Security and acting overseer of the Kyoki Chudoku no Himitsu no Shakai, I have additional questions relating largely to supernatural capabilities, as is the purview of the organisation.

1. My most pressing concern is the presence of an arcane entity- proclaiming itself divine- within yourself. The specifics are uncertain, but to what understanding has been provided to me, there does exist at least a fragment of an unnatural being within you. Why do you permit this- if it is a choice whatsoever- and would you eliminate it if you had the opportunity?

2. On a related topic, if the above is indeed correct, why do you proclaim yourself openly as a “heretic” despite seemingly wielding the power of such an entity? This is not a criticism. I am firmly against religious fanaticism, especially pertaining to beings with demonstrable power. It is simply a question to address perceived hypocrisy.”

-Kodama Remon, Head of Arcane Security

“I will offer no pleasantries, only inquiries.

1. Given the fleeting nature of your affections and your opposition to a traditional permanent relationship structure, do you possess any intention of continuing your genetic lineage through reproduction, or are you content for your hereditary attributes to conclude with the end of your life?

2. You have permitted the mass proliferation of destructive poisons within your nation. What measures have you established to mitigate the catastrophic harm such acts will doubtlessly have incurred?”

-Naosu, Densetsu Nana of Shinrin District, Head of Medical Affairs

“How much do, you...enjoy...the delightful, embrace...of pain...?”

-Kurushimi, Densetsu Roku of Nogyo District, Head of the Army

If I truly love someone, I'll love them from the bottom of my heart and I don't need to put a ring on my finger to prove that I do. It's just that simple really. Look, maybe I shouldn't have written down that I'm against marriage. I just don't see the point anymore."

I would never hurt anyone willingly and I have never hurt anyone I'm not proclaiming. I'm telling you how it is. We, as a people, collectively keep ourselves in check. "Ah it's good to see that this exist! I have always been curious about your nation. So here's my two questions, what is the best dish in Bloodshade? Do you guys have any other favorite foods?"-Overseer Victoria Quinn.

"Ahoy! I 'ave a few questions, so please bear with me. Don't worry, I will ask them in an understandable form of English.

With ye alcohol, what is the most popular kind in yer nation? Along with this, are ye fans of taverns/bars or do the most of ye drink them at home?

Now I do no know that yer nation is a vast one spanning over several star systems. Surely, this vast ocean is not entirely safe, is it? Are my brothers and sisters of fortune in the skies a common sight? How are they treated if they are captured? And how much boot-... money is lost every year from these pirates, provided they are common?

As for my final question... my friend asked me to ask ye this. Where do ye keep your nation money and valuables? Are they kept at a central bank of sorts or are they spread across the galaxy? Or are ye one of those nations where currencies are, how ye say, digital?"

"Lovely question, I think it's my turn to answer. Best dish in Bloodshade? That's rather subjective but if you ask me? We specialise in sweets. My favourite dish? Nerowald! It's got to be cherry-filled chocolate sponge cake. I don't have to tell you why that's such a heavenly dish, do I?

As for other favourite foods? We tend to toy around with variations of pie, berry pies especially, and meat or fish based dishes with rice or bread as the staple! Fermented food is also a great hit in Bloodshade, particularly pickled cucumbers and yogurt.

"Oh! Allow me to answer that! I'd say that mead, brandy and whiskey are our go-to drinks! Social drinking is most certainly an aspect of Bloodshade, mister. We can't drown our sorrows alone in the confines of our own homes...right?"

"Of course it's not safe. Yes, if you wondered, piracy is rather widespread amongst the universe. It's not just on your own planet. There are many 'merry' bands of these folk travelling all around deep space and preying on the weak and innocent.

As for how they're treated...HEY!
"

- Countess Ambrosia von Carstein

"As for how they're treated! Their charred corpses are left to rot within the dying husks of their ships! We much prefer to kill them when they're threats rather than capture them. It's easier that way because we don't want to bother convicting them because chances are we'd violate another nation's celestial boundaries and that just means more paperwork.

In terms of how much currency or valuables they steal in our side of the universe? While they tend to avoid going head to head with professional standing navies and have largely been pushed back to the outer rims of civilisation, they still cost us upwards in the hundreds of billions.

You know, you talk big smack but how about I play on your level and teach you a lesson? One ironclad ship of the line! I'll absolutey thrash you and your crew!

"You're a funny man, aren't you? Well, our currency is digital in nature but if you're looking for valuables, chances are you'll find something worth nabbing at every turn if you got plopped right on our capital homeworld. Who's your friend?"
