Magic, despite its potential, remains only partially explained by science

"Thank you for your question regarding magic. In our world, magic and its manipulation are due to what scientists believe is a mutation in human brains. This mutation, said to have resulted from increasing living standards, has led to fundamental changes in brain structure, particularly the hippocampus, frontal lobe, and cortical thickness of the occipital lobe. It is through this change that humans are able to directly influence our surroundings by affecting our environment from the atomic and sub-atomic level. The strength of one's magic is related to the area and level of manipulation they may induce on the atomic level, while the type of magic is determined by how they can change those atom's interactions. Of course, there are some parts of magic that remain unexplained; those relating to dimensional travel and time slowing are particularly interesting to our scientists as they continue to theorise those origins."

I look forward to quieter living

"After my term ends- which will be in 2025- I intend to life a quieter life if so permitted by the circumstances. Of course, I will continue my work in others forms outside of the official channels such as writing, critiquing, and teaching. But I must say not having to worry about politics all day will be a welcome change."

MIZUSHIMA: "主席主席, Chairwoman Ōmiya, お早よう御座います! Or rather, おはようございます, outside of Baizou. Thank you for providing this open forum for questions; I hope you will allow me to ask several on behalf of Baizou, the throne, and the premier and her cabinet.

"What are your thoughts on Sanghyeok's 'junior' political leaders, such as the secretaries and heads of other parties and committees? As immortal as you are, physiologically speaking you could in theory remain in office eternally, but I'm given to understand you do not plan to do so. Do you feel confident in Sanghyeok's future leaders?

"How have you found balance between accepting—or at least tolerating—loved ones' diverse political persuasions versus refusing to 'support' harmful platforms? Baizou has long been blessed with an educated, active, and well-rounded populace whose differences are only rarely somewhat extreme, but sometimes the political can seem to invade the personal. Do you keep the two separate? If so, why, and how? And if not, why, and how? To illustrate this with a perhaps mild example, is someone a hypocrite if one as a citizen votes in favor of anti-discrimination legislation or in favor of nationalizing manufacturing, but as a friend regularly convenes with those who vote and believe the very opposite? At what point does the political become the moral, and the moral become the personal?

"Finally, if you will permit a perhaps frivolous inquiry—is your hair color natural, or have you dyed it? And from your stuffed animal collection, do you have any favorites?

"Thank you for your time, Chairwoman. Take whatever time you need to consider your reply, and I wish you peaceful days and well-brewed tea."

I'll gladly answer your inquiries

"こんにちは, 水島大使. I must say, it is most interesting to see the kanji form of the common greeting after so many years. Language is truly something changed by all members of society, and how different versions of languages are propagated, formed, and evolve is quite an insight on society's history. But I digress. You brought a great deal of questions, and I will answer them the best I can.

Your first question was about the younger members of our government, and if I should place my faith in them and my successors. In this area I have no doubts whatsoever that when time comes in 5 years, they can faithfully execute their duties to our people and revolution. Our political parties and organisations are structured in such a way (which we name democratic limited hierarchy) that talented individuals can be easily discovered and elevated to appropriate positions. Such a system also allows for senior members- if they fail to act properly or in accordance with party member's wishes- to be deranked and replaced rapidly. n fact, you have already met some of them- both Committee Head Cho from the One Sky Movement and Secretary General Tomie Shinpei of the New Communist Party were originally no more than ordinary students who entered their respective parties. Given their potential and perceived abilities, the party members soon took notice and voted them into positions of higher responsibility. At just 35 and 34 years old, they have already become acknowledged as some of the leaders of our Socialist Federation's future. I take further confidence in the fact I will have several successors for my positions and not just one. Chairperson, Supreme Leader, and Secretary General will likely become three people as opposed to one, which furthers the decentralisation of power and removes some decision making of individuals.

You ask about the nature of political and personal life. I have found my own fair share of controversy and criticism from within government and opposition in this very issue due to my interactions with my sister and the Azur Twins. I will use the latter here, for purposes of brevity and since it is more widely known. My meetings with the Rose Twins of Azur Deutschland some months prior was one example where I found those views diverging. Politically, of course, you should know as well as I do that fascism and authoritarian leadership is rather incompatible with leftist ideology to say the least. And yet the three of us- for the span of that tea party- found ourselves forgetting our political identities and seeing each other as merely friends. Why was it I was able to sip tea and enjoy cosplay with those who would have been enemies in any other form? Was it because they enjoyed sweets and delicate dresses? Was it because we shared personalities, if not political ideology? I do not know why we are such great friends to this day, but I would not hesitate to meet them again- indeed, I am planning to meet them quite soon for the New Year Gala.

Such experiences suggest there must be a barrier between the personal and political, between moral and ideological, such that humans are "compartmentalised" with all their different attributes kept separately. But I do not believe such a description is accurate either. I am no philosopher, but in my opinion, political and morality as well as person are all part of a greater whole and intricately connected. To be human is to be composed of countless interactions- personality, political opinions, knowledge, ideals, morals- which are fused together to make a common whole. Moving to the higher level, society and environment influence the individual human, changing their components all at once. Perhaps the best explanation is that humans should be seen on a lower level (morals, politics, and such) when interacting with them in those spheres; while observing and judging holistically from another. After all, we humans are more than sum of our parts, so it makes sense to judge from a "system-level" most of the time. In such cases, politics and personality may be separated if it is convenient to do so. In the end, I would not consider your example voter to be hypocritical, but merely using different lenses in their suitable scenarios.

As for my hair colour, it is dyed, though nowadays dyeing hair is far rarer in my nation than using short-term genetic modifications to change colour. My favourite stuffed animal is a Rilakkuma doll, who I have affectionately nicknamed "Myu-chan".

It has been a pleasure answering your inquiry, Ambassador Mizushima. I wish you prosperity and health in the New Year.

Dear Chairwoman,
Despite our countries' political differences, I must say that it is a great pleasure to find a fellow woman in a position of power, which is still a sad rarity even today. If this is not too personal a question, might I ask if you have ever faced discrimination based on your sex? I have personally found that playing second fiddle, pardon the colloquialism, to my older brothers despite being the most visible and publicly active of us three has in a roundabout way helped me cultivate various contacts and personal projects. Working in the background has its advantages for me, to put it in a more succinct manner. Additionally, have you ever discovered the reason for your apparent immortality?

Sincerely,

I love TWICE and Red Velvet!

"So long as consumers are willing, I do not see Korea's domination of world culture as either something good or bad. Although, I must say I certainly appreciate Kpop and Kdramas, particularly those which have deep themes of bonding, meeting, farewell, and reunion. I also enjoy directors of movies and TV series who use their skills to critique society through their works like Parasite, which I hear was quite popular in many worlds including yours.

My favourite Hallyu star? I was rather fond of Taeyeon for some time, although now I've switched my allegiance to Red Velvet and TWICE. Their songs are incredibly catchy and their dance moves excellently choreographed, not to mention their music videos are wonderful."

To: Chairwoman Oomiya Sakura

We have acquired a picture of you from unidentified sources. The picture shows you, Chairwoman Oomiya Sakura, and Sylvia and Julienne Dellamorte from Azur Deutschland. Also, in the picture - you, Sylvia and Julienne are hugging with each other. A catgirl maid is in the background.

Can you confirm if it is actually you and Sylvia and Julienne Dellamorte in the picture or if it is authentic, as some sources suspect it was manipulated? Also, can you say when was the picture taken and who do you think took it?

To Chairwoman Oomiya Sakura,

From The Great Goddess Who Leads, Ilitu

"Hello, dearest Oomiya, it is with great pleasure that I now write to you. I wish you and yours all the best in the coming year, and I am glad you made it through the prior safely. Now, as to the business of this letter- it is slightly embarrassing, I must admit. For you see, I have a question of you, and I believe it is a question- well, no... truthfully it is more of two questions- but, these questions are such that only you alone might answer- or rather, it is from you alone who I might ask, and not fear some over-proud judgement. Firstly, regarding our mutual loss of sisters, I was wondering how you might currently describe the experience- I do this not to pick at sore wounds, I assure you, instead merely to determine the similarities of our experiences, and commiserate over the mutual grief of sisterhood we must surely share. Secondly- and, here too I assure you I have no ill will- but, do you recall what your parents looked like? Do you remember what life with them was like? I truly, sincerely, apologize if these questions bruise old wounds- or, in the absence of such pain, creates fresh pain.

Thank you for your time, and may blessings visit you and yours,

Ilitu, the Great Goddess Who Leads

Women hold up half the sky

"Though our nation has worked tremendously in pursuing increased gender equality and opportunities for women, there have indeed been cases in which I have faced some discrimination for being female. Most of those have been subtle incidents, during which my proposals have been taken less seriously, perhaps, or my appearance has been scrutinised heavily. Though they are less common now given my position of power, I understand some of my fellow female colleagues may still face implicit discrimination when they conduct their duties, which must be changed at all speed. Despite such incidents, though, my comrades have usually treated me almost equally, at least in public, for it is well known within leftist circles that liberation of women is necessary for the liberation of all people. Our ruling coalition is continuing to make progress in those regards as we advance towards a truly equal society.

As for the matter of my immortality? I have never found the true reason."

*a wild Canadian an-syndie appears in the Q&A*

"Well, hey there. I know ya ain't heard of me or, well, anyone vaguely related to me, but I was just droppin' by and I so happened to notice that you've got a rather successful movement goin' on in your, um, Earth, and as such I've got some questions for ya. Hope ya don't mind too much, because there's a lot.

Anyways, first one- seein' as you've got plans for an expansion into space soon, might I ask how ya plan to govern those, er, colonies? As in, are they going to be largely independent, or are they goin' to be largely subject to the mother planet's edicts? I- sorry, bit of a diversion, but philosophically there's something to be said for that term implying a hierarchy between the governor and the governed, but- okay, the academician in me's gettin' ahead of the rest again. Anyways, uh, I ask because my, er, world's got some certain... issues with... executing the concept. As in we spacefarin' folk spent a couple hundred years in the cesspit of authoritarianism before we figured something out. Most of us still are.

But that's my problem, not yours. Second question- does maintaining an armed proletariat militia in your eyes constitute a necessity, even once you've got that ol' vanguard-state up an' running? That is, one independent of the state, not aligned with it. Not as much to say about this one, just lookin' for your opinion on the subject.

Self-determination is righteous

"I, along with several other colleagues from the Socialism and Peace Party, have expressly objected to any settlements outside of our home system for time being for this very issue. The name "colonies", as you yourself mentioned, implies an uneven relationship between home and colonised planet. This may be unintentionally true even in a socialist system as ours. So far, we have been successful in delaying human exploration of any exoplanets despite our creation of FTL technology nearly a decade ago, and I intend to continue to prevent any such efforts from going forth until our technology and society are advanced enough that "developer" and "developed" can share an equal distribution of power. Only when we reach those benchmarks - in my eyes, nothing less than actual communism with post scarcity - should we attempt to populate other worlds.

My belief regarding a militia of the people is one area where my interpretations differ with most within my party and nation- in fact, they even run contrary to Marx's himself! Yet no matter how great of a theorist and philosopher Marx was, he could only draw conclusions from his readings for much of history. In contrast, I have seen centuries of history and bloodshed first hand, which makes me all the more aversive to anything handing means of violence to the masses. Though it pains me to say so, I must admit an army of the people, controlled by the state, loyal to the revolution is far preferable to a fallible militia.

As for tea? I love the taste of fresh Darjeeling the most - it tastes of crisp mountain air and frigid springs, warm rains and soft breezes, fluffy clouds and fertile soil. But if you are a tea lover in your heart, even the lowest grade of leaves can make a lovely brew. Close your eyes, and you too can experience that wonder."

Re: Acquired Image of Chairwoman Oomiya Sakura Hugging Sylvia and Julienne Dellamorte

Dear Chairwoman Oomiya Sakura, thank you for your input and your cherished opinion on this image. We are not quite sure if it is authentic or not, but one thing is sure for us, that the "catgirl maid" definitely wasn't authentic and wasn't really there in the first place. If the "catgirl maid" was authentic, she might have come from Las Palmeras for sure.

Also, we respect your opinion, but we are not quite sure if this was taken on late September as we acquired this image from anonymous sources on January 1 - the same time you are having a New Year Party with Sylvia and Julienne Dellamorte.

We also don't know who took this or who manipulated this, but I think we agree with your opinion that this was taken by Chisaki for sure.

Actually, we are very much sorry for not showing you the aforementioned image in the first place.

Perhaps you can take a look at the picture itself and so be able to remember when it was taken?

"It's an honor to meet you, Secretary General! I'm Rep. Meikawa, the senior parliamentary representative in Baizou's Socialist Party, and I have a question about your understanding—or Sanghyeok's understanding, whichever you think makes sense for my question—of social revolution as part of revolutionary Marxism or socialism. What role does cultural transformation play in a revolution? Do cultural institutions that have been part of capitalist society hold people back from embarking on revolution? Maybe you already guess what I'm curious about, but if not, I noticed that you and Sanghyeok still embrace cultural productions that I figure are pre-revolutionary, since I can recognize them—specific musicals and certain plushie brands, for instance. So, my guess is that cultural transformation in those areas isn't something you think is needed for revolution—but that's just my guess, of course! I'd like to hear from you how you understand Sanghyeok's revolution and maybe also why. I just wanted to let you know what I was already thinking and where my question was coming from. Thanks for your time!"
