AEK-971 will probably come back. Maybe. They've made a 6mm Unified one and are testing it as a baseline for Russia's NGSW equivalent.

Whether it'll actually be built is a real question I guess.

If anything comes of it, it almost certainly won't be a BARS system. It might be gelled propellant though.

What vehicle type is better for mountains and/or rainforests; wheeled, or tracked? Initially I was thinking tracked because they're usually better when it comes to off-road operations, but at the same time they're usually pretty heavy and bulky. Wheeled vehicles like the BTR series seemed to do alright in mountainous areas like Afghanistan, but I'm not sure how well they would fair in dense foliage. Basically I'm torn, so what do you guys think?

To get below the price-point of an M72 LAW($750) or 40mm HEDP, you're going to need like a $500 technical pulled out from the clunker-pile and given about $100 worth of armor-plating (wood and sandbags in the trunk).... Then get really good driving using rearview mirrors as vision periscopes.

And even then all you've managed to make is an ersatz hillbilly-armored HMMWV or narco-tank.

Not many wheeled vehicles have enough tractive "grunt" to consistently push trees out of the way... maybe ram a single tree with a 5 ton MRAP and then get stuck.

Similar problems when dealing with boggy ground and mountains.

If you're dealing with forested bogs in the mountains you kinda need tracked vehicles.

And even then... bushwhacking in a tank is not recommended.

1. Experiments (and logic) confirm the speed of a light vehicle in a forested area is dictated mostly by its width.
2. Sufficiently heavy tracked vehicles can crush a significant amount, though not all, vegetation.

No, just rotate the front seat, and replace the steering wheel with a gear, and add another gear wheel, and run two more gears and a shaft in parallel to transmit the driver's rotational movements.

This might result in aircraft-style joystick control, but it is doable.

My solution is simpler and removes risky direct vision ports.

The Rapier won't be able to stop everything
Something like a Scud-C or Iskander-M will easily get through and your communications can be easily disabled through the use of anti radiation missiles, navy will be at risk if an enemy uses modern anti-ship missiles and MBTs aren't really useful in ALL types of terrain, modern light tanks will get the upper hand (yes they exist and are cheaper to manufacture)
