How long should soldiers hair be?
(This is mostly a satirical question, but also kind of serious at the same time.

For men, as long as they can keep it neat and professional looking without having to do a ponytail or a ridiculous man bun which are both inherently unprofessional looking. For women, as long as they want so long as they can tie it up without it adding unnecessary bulk that would interfere with wearing helmets.

Is the FN FAL (my country uses an alt-universe version of it) a good weapon for mass usage in a military alliance in the 21st century? Perhaps if it uses an intermediate cartridge such as the .280 British?
An alt-America that had a grand bargain struck with London in the 1760s and remained under the British Crown (Turtledove's "The Two Georges"), mixed with some of Sobel's "For Want of a Nail" and a lot of the anthology "Columbia and Britannia," the sci-fi NZ novel "Anno Domini 2000 or Woman's Destiny", and cameos of other alternate histories. “The Rock of the Britannic Commonwealth,” an alliance of Britannic and former colonies as partner-nations in personal union and/or in association.

Tech level: MT+
NS stats: mostly policies
IC/RP name: North American Union (NAU).
IC/RP main supranational IGO: United Britannic Commonwealth of Nations.
NSverse organization member/agreement signatory: CAPINTERN, IFTC, ICDN, ECO, IBA, Amistad.

Only body hair.

Head hair should be retained for atomic thermal shock and UV protection. Preferably in androgynous bob cuts of exotic colors like pink, actual red, and blue, that make it difficult to discern the sex of the troops because they're all really cool dudes.

Nope.

Like all the serious FAL users you would have switched to a lighter, cheaper and more accurate rotary bolt system in the 80s/90s (most likely something based on the AR-18).

Even with .280 being adopted in a FAL you would still have likely found the ammo to have been not much of an improvement over 7.62x51mm and have thus have embraced the SCHV concept. Now wither you would have used 5.56mm or something more tea flavoured like 4.85x49mm is up to you.

I wish we can like things in the Forum, but they have yet to establish that.

Ok, I'll consider doing something like an AR-18. I've entertained that previously with my nation's service rifle but went with a FAL-based weapon due to pictures that have that weapon as opposed to something based more on an AR-18, but yes a lot of countries adopted the rotary bolt system with their rifles, like Britain, Singapore, Japan and Germany. I was partial to weapons looking like the SR-80 or the SR-88. But why not a cartridge in the 6 mm range?

A mans qualities stem from the volume and quality of his hair. All of his hair. Armpits, nose, face, head even the stuff sticking out through your sewage outlet. A true man thus newer shaves. NEWER SHAVES.

Do man-packed .50 cal machine guns still have a place in a modern infantry battalion? In the context of a battalion machine gun platoon, the range and power of a .50 cal makes some sense but for the most part, it looks like how heavy they are and how little ammo the team would actually be able to carry for them negates those advantages that the larger caliber would bring to a leg infantry unit.

All Purpelian officers above and including the rank of regimental commander must cultivate facial hair as part of their uniform. Medical and barber exemptions are possible for those that just can't grow good looking facial hair. But they are rarely used as it's something of a stigmatized thing to do.

Fraternisation is an offence between officers and enlisted troops.
Soldiers are encouraged to bond with troops of equal ranks so if anything that’s a good thing.
