Does your nation have re-education camps, and if so, why?

If not, why not?

Macureus uses re-education camps to well, "re-educate" people who need it, such as female supremacists/gynocrats, religious zealots, homophobes, clerics of the old matriarchal religions, folks like that.

The government doesn't, but companies do. They kidnap people and educate them on why they should buy their products or work for them. The freer the market the freer the people :)

Sharifistan does not however rehabilitation is a goal of the prison system.
In addition to this for certain crimes men might be ordered to serve in the military and for certain crimes committed by women they might be made to take cooking classes.

We do, but they more resemble hospitals, where convicts are either reprogrammed, or lobotomized if theyre organic.

We do not have reeducation camps, although we do have rehabilitation centres.

They're not nearly as ominous as they sound, they're functionally equivalent to minimum security prisons but you can only be sentenced to them for up-to ten years. They're called rehabilitation centres in order to reflect the fact that the justice system of the Democratic Republic focuses more on rehabilitation over punishment.

In the past, however, there were twenty-two forced labour camps constructed during the reign of Alexei Petrikov from 1940 until 1951 where prisoners aged eight and older were required to attend five-hour long daily reeducation classes, in addition to the ten hours of forced labour required of all prisoners.

All twenty-two of these camps were shut down after Petrikov's death and have since been converted into memorials to the victims of his reign.

No. We do have rehabilitation centres, though, which typically work to rid someone of an addiction, such as alcohol or tobacco, usually by order of a court as punishment for something, but many typically allow people to admit themselves of their own free will. Functionally, they can be described as equivalent to a minimum-security prison, but with generally greater freedoms. The comfort level can be described as somewhere between a private home and a minimum-security prison.

Yes. the Commonwealth has "reeducation camps" -- more precisely Correctional Penitentiaries. Some are taxpayer based such as Heatherbrook Canton' s Lyssa Correctional Penitentiary and some are professional charities through various denominations such as the Society of Friends' Dymphna Institute.

Why? Because some people do not understand that mere good intentions are worthless. Some are so deliberately continuous in their morally stupidity or abashedly willfully ignorant that they do need help in making their second chance count. Some people recognize that they are powerless in their trespasses and sins and need redemption.

Sometimes the court grants leniency or does not fully sentence capital punishment for the following offenses (which are capital crimes in their own right):
1. Acts of general outlawry such as brigandage, piracy (real piracy, not intellectual property disputes), banditry, rape, and kidnapping, especially if part of criminal gangs, a criminal conspiracy, or organized crime;
2. Specific acts of insurrection or sedition;
3. Gross Malfeasance by peace officers or officers, agents, operatives, contractors, or public servants of the Commonwealth or its constituent members who commit such crimes as deprivation of rights under the color of authority and misprision of felony, where for whatever reason capitol punishment was not meted.

Convicts who volunteer, whether selected from a prison population or at sentencing are taken to a holding facility where they are interred in a 120 day boot camp similar to what Revenue and Customs Troops of the Commonwealth Combined Defense Force (a rough analog of US Marine Boot Camp in the 1940)s are subjected to as far as they are physically able. They are broken down into a whimpering mass and rebuilt into optimal men or women.

After boot camp they are assigned to a two year education curriculum where they either remediate or learn Liberal Arts with an emphasis on Civic Virtue. This is combined with a 2 year vocational program of their choice that may last the full 4 years (some complete the combination earlier and others later). They are then either graduated back into society under pain of death, voluntarily enlisted into the Combined Defense Force, or remanded to an appropriate asylum if need be.

Those who fail the program through indolence, recalcitrance, or obstreperousness are returned to their respective prisons to serve the remainder of their sentences. Prisons are synonymous with hard labor -- they are being punished for their crimes through the Commonwealth legal system. Those who reintegrate back into society but return to a life of crime are tried and if convicted, publicly executed.

by TURTLESHROOM II
TurtleShroom's prisons are intended to punish and break the selfish pride of a criminal. Pride is the father of all sin, and criminals are full of it. Slapping them on the wrist will not accomplish such a thing. The official motto of the penal system is "No Man Reforms Unless He is First Broken". Prisons are re-education camps solely in the sense that a creature that "enrolls" will never want to go back. Physical labor is the norm, while shame and humiliation are the primary tools to invoke mental rebirth.

While the educational system is completely private, most TurtleShroomian schoolhouses also push assimilation on first-generation immigrants and their children, indoctrinating them into appreciation and understanding of the greatness of TurtleShroom, the basics of its culture, its history, and so on. For most schools, the final declaration and completion of assimilation is the declaration that they too are worthy to call themselves TurtleShroomian.

This has gone both ways, of course. TurtleShroom has been greatly enriched by its Oriental influx and has found mutual compatibilities and splendor within each other, melting into an even better world.

We have a system of “correction camps” in which inferior ethnic groups are rounded up and, uh, fixed. They totally don’t undergo forced labor, torture, human experimentation, mutilation, death, etc. Our Correction Camps are like summer camps and can help undesirables concentrate. It think there is a word for camps that help degenerates concentrate, idk it has a bad connotation. Millions have been exe- I mean corrected in these fun camps and they totally aren’t in mass graves.

We have a system of aboriginal education facilities in which indigenous Kancians are taken to. They typically are assimilated into our superior culture and may or may not face torture if they don’t comply. Indoctrination and forced labor does occur in these camps, but the end result is worth any suffering caused in these re-education centers. Some 200,000 aborigines have been educated since our campaign was launched in 2002. Dissidents claim that “several thousand have been killed in the camps” which is utter nonsense.

It is a regrettable fact that some people hold views detrimental to social stability and prosperity. Worse, they often attempt to spread these views to their fellow citizens, infecting them with the disease of incorrect thought. As such, it is imperative that these individuals be detained and cured of their illness before they can harm society.

Yes, when people have internalised harmful attitudes we send them to special facilities to be educated on the errors of their ways. They aren't "camps", though, they're more like retreats where people are reminded of the positive aspects of our society and of the value of fitting into that society

by Radiatia
Radiatia doesn't have re-education camps but it does have what are known as "Mass Educational Facilities" (MAFs) all over the country.

At these facilities, children between the ages of 5 and 17 are usually obliged by the state to attend and be taught things like 'how to read', 'how to count' and basic history and science.

It sounds chilling and terrifying until you realise that it's just that what other countries call "schools" are called "Mass Educational Facilities" in Radiatia.

We attempt to rehabilitate terrorists in such camps, unless their crimes are very serious of nature. We avoid killing them since it would make them martyrs for other terrorists of the same group.

It depends on how you have re-education camp defined. At criminal trials, psychiatrists are often assigned to assess the crimes such as sexual assault, pyromania, or another crime where a mental episode may have occurred, and on it is on this basis they relay their observations to the local government and they will be assigned to therapy while they are incarcerated.
