Racism in your country

How prevalent is racism in your country, is it institutionalised or tolerated? Who are the main victims of it? How do YN govt. tackle the issue?

In Kergstan racism is not prevalent even though the nation is ethnically homogeneous with almost 9 every 10 inhabitants being ethnically Korandili.

In the minor Dunroa Island there have been two waves of ethnic clashes between Korandilis and Pashtaris, one in 2003 and one recently due to longstanding land issues.

Racism and hate-speech are criminalised and repeat offenders are given compulsory re-educational lessons and are made to live and interact with the offended community for a period of time under the surveillance of the local neighborhood party cell.

Medwedgradians are of Caucasian race and historically there were never many people of another race living in the Fiefdom. The history of racism is therefore non-existent in the Fiefdom. Also, no evident racial incident has ever taken place in Medwedgrad.

Racism isn't prevalent at all in Voxija. There are a few individual Voxijans who argue racist views online, but they are just that, few. Hate speech laws depend on the city, but no matter what, violators are usually shunned by their former friends. Voxijans still secretly think of race in terms of colors, and think of themselves as part of a specific race (the brown race), but Voxijans will never admit it, and they don't think any race as inferior or superior to any other, anyway. There were some racial incidents, such as the anti-Romani riots and eugenics movements, but they are over and gone. Today, Voxija is one of the least racist countries in the world, at least outwardly.

Historically, there have been multiple conflicts between the major Norse population and the small German community in the south-west, such as the Odinian Civil War and the Odinian Civil Conflicts. Since the Civil War, december 16 is the National German Representation Day, as a result of the German victory. Nowadays, the Germans, as well as their faith, is widely accepted throughout the country.

Historically speaking, racism has been a problem in Drongonia. The nation was created as a de facto ethno-state for white individuals back in 1951.

Nowadays there's a small but also significant minority of immigrants who enjoy full protection under the law and are more or less treated the same as everyone else by the public at large. However, racism (especially online) is tolerated as it is designated as a form of free speech under the Bill of Rights which governs the country.

by Magical Equestria
Racism is officially outlawed in Equestria. That said, it is an unfortunate part of pony history, and echos of that exist to the present day.

In the "bad old days" before Equestrian unification, the three tribes of the pony nation--the Unicorns, Pegasi, and Earth Ponies--were marred by racial animosity, each tribe considering itself the superior. It didn't help matters that the leadership of the three tribes--the Unicorn monarchy, the Pegasi high military command, and the Earth Pony chancellorship--were profoundly racist and promoted supremacist policies. It took an environmental catastrophe that threatened the survival of all three tribes for the common ponies to reject the suicidal policies of their respective leaderships and forge a common way out of the disaster those leaders' misrule had led them to. In the new, unified Equestria, racial supremacy would no longer be tolerated.

That said, sometime you can still see reminders of the old ways. Ponies are tribal by nature, and tend to be segregated, living in towns dominated by one tribe or another. It is recognized that Unicorns, Pegasi, and Earth Ponies are not the same; each makes their own unique contribution to Equestrian culture. So, it's not unusual to see businesses or social affairs that are restricted to one tribe or another. "Separate but equal", while commonly denounced by most monoracial cultures, is in fact the rule in Equestria, and considered just the way things are done here.

by Terabithya
There is no racism in Terabithya in the original sense, neither towards non-human races nor towards humans of other skin-color because there are no non-white humans anyway in Terabithya. The Kingdom is located on Terabithyan planet which is located near the edge of space very close to Heaven. This not only results in longevity but also in the fact that everyone who enters Terabithya becomes white if he/she wasn't white on Earth already. Black and Asian people become caucasoid ("white") upon entering Terabithya. The other, indigenous, races of Terabithya such as elves, flymen, trolls et cetera are treated similar to humans, just not entirely equal of course because they're different lifeforms. For liberals, that might qualify as racism already.

The Willinkian legal system protects freedom of association and disassociation, accordingly racism isn't a crime, and is generally policed economically or socially. As a practical matter it is most commonly directed toward Semites (the Willinkian minority Mariac population) and more commonly Iranian persons (specifically Willink's Vatae minority). From an international perspective, racist feelings are generally directed toward all ethnic groups that predominately practice Islam.

The Commonwealth of Great Britain is a fairly homogeneous nation, with an estimated 95% of the population considered to be 'white', however there has been a significant minority of people of colour since the 1960s, the majority of whom came from the Dominions, particularly India. These new arrivals were met with hostility by many, who saw them as taking up jobs that could be done by Britons. This tension boiled over into a riot in the East End of London in 1970, which caused the government to take race relations more seriously. The following year, it implemented an anti-racist campaign known as 'Britain United', which consisted of posters, public information films and cartoons encouraging people, particularly children, to call out any form of racial or religious bigotry they encountered among friends or family members, and explain to them that these attitudes are at odds with the nation's socialist-humanist ideals. The effectiveness of this campaign is disputed, but incidents of racial violence declined over the following years.

Today, open racism is very uncommon, although some minorities claim that institutionalised racism is still widespread, particularly in government organisations. Nonetheless, it is illegal to discriminate based on ethnic origin with regards to work, housing or provision of services. Incitement to racial hatred is a criminal offence, and can result in prison time.

by The Japan
From a legal standpoint, all discrimination based on race is illegal in Japan. Historically, the Ainu people experienced racism from the Japanese people as their territory was encroached by the Austronesians, until they were confined to the island of Fokaiku. Today, migrants from poor countries such as the Louisiana, the Ivory Coasts and Europe face discrimination. They are mostly limited to low-wage jobs such as domestic cleaning.

Between 1999 and today, Japan has only accepted 823 refugees, primarily from the unstable East Africa region. In comparison, neighboring Siraya accepted 92,000 in 2012 alone. Of the entire Japanese population, only 14,320 are recognized as refugees by the Japanese government. Furthermore, the current Emperor has declared Japan to be a "nation-state of the Japanese, and no other." Around 22% of Japanese support taking in migrants.

by Andocara
Racism is not tolerated in Andocara. Andocarians like to see themselves as not being racist, though the nation has had some history of racism particularly towards racial minorities and indigenous people. The government has installed a Big Brother System to not only detect racist behaviors but also any crime in general. Hate speech has been banned in Andocara, though speech is for most part free in Andocara. Racist people pretty much express it openly in the closet, or in the privacy of their home. Today, Andocarians of minority background don't really face any racism, aside from some micro aggressions every now and again.

Despite our integration & diversification programs, racism remains a huge problem in Dallona, particularly among older white citizens who remember when our planet was 99.9%+ white. Our efforts to create a post-racial society are paying off, but we must do better to ensure that our minority citizens are able to match the achievements of whites and go about their business without feeling threatened or mistreated by whites in any way

It is officially illegal to discriminate against others for their race, such as in employment, benefits, public transport and other instances where discrimination can occur. There remains some instances of soft racism in the country, but this is due to the size of the population and the rurality of certain communities.

The State is dedicated to preserving the native majority of Britannia Maior while simultaneously integrating and assimilating the minorities of the country. Some may call this racism, but it is nothing more than protecting indigenous peoples (English, Welsh, Cornish, Scots, Manx, etc) from extinction or replacement and integrating everyone else into the British nation.

The American concept of “whiteness” is not recognised and considered a funny foreign idea. We see all other European and Europhone ethnicities as separate and equal in assimilation. Some cultures, however, find it easier to celebrate themselves than others despite the official assimilation policy.

Racism was declining rapidly until the government entered into a migration agreement with Langustia. Within a short period of time, billions of Langustian people (around 90% women due to a severe sex ratio imbalance) had arrived on DeVare, provoking an extreme backlash from some quarters. Racism is declining again now, mainly because already 42% of people here are either fully or mixed Langustian, but is stronger than ever among some groups

by Voopmont
Racism in Voopmont is quite an interesting story, as the three main species used to all have their own countries before unification. My two most populous species have been at war for 80% of their existence so as you can imagine there is a weird relationship. Although there are a lot of elements which negate this natural rivalry.

First, ethnic mixing in society. By expanding extremely quickly over the course of the last ~3000 years we've managed to spread out our settling population very evenly. There are also loose ethnic quotas like in Singapore, although by electoral riding rather than neighbourhood. By evenly distributing these species we can make it more of a norm to have them as a neighbour and forget the wars of the past. This also leads to interspecies couples, once again discouraging all but the most insensitive to speak out publicly.

Second is the general environment of the country. We're built upon the principle of "being the perfect utopia", one of the key elements in this is acceptance of others. Racists are frowned upon by society, the entire society. This at least prevents it from reaching the streets, everyone keeps those complaints to themselves.

by Seleyah
Kergstan wrote:How prevalent is racism in your country, is it institutionalised or tolerated? Who are the main victims of it? How do YN govt. tackle the issue?

A tricky and complicated subject in Seleyah. Since the first British colonists arrived in the 1820's the Aboriginal community has been dispossessed and marginalised, only officially being counted in the census and given the vote in the 1960's. A "White Seleyah" immigration policy ensured that non-Europeans could not migrate to Seleyah until restrictions were relaxed in the 1970's (although elements of the policy were only finally removed in the 1990's).

Although Aborigines are now regarded as full citizens, the White Seleyah immigration policy ended decades ago and there is no specific racist legislation in place at the Commonwealth level, Seleyah is often widely criticised at the UN and other international bodies for some of its cultural practices.

Non-whites are rarely seen in positions of power within the political system and are poorly represented in the military, police or judiciary. The state police forces have mostly been regarded as institutionally racist with the Northern Seleyahn and North-Eastern Territory police forces continuing to have a dreadful reputation. Politicians from even mainstream parties have a habit of using inappropriate and at times hostile language towards non-whites.

Although the Asian community has done well economically it is still widely regarded as "foreign" and right-wing parties have tended to stick to a quota system reducing migration from Asian countries. The Aboriginal population does not have any economic success and many Aborigines live in dreadful poverty on reservations or effective shanty towns.

For the most part the government ignores this issue. The Labour Party and Greens have made anti-racism a central part of their platforms, although the Labour Party has been out of power at the Commonwealth level since 2010 preventing any meaningful change. At the state level there are some differences with the centre-left state governments in the Adelford and Hartley introducing various measures that would be recognised as progressive in other Western nations.

Depending on your stance on the issues, racism in Seleyah makes for grim reading, although of note many recent migrants from the U.K. in particular seem to enjoy the state of affairs.

Racism, like most other forms of hatred, is a crime in the Empire. Racism in Brazil is more prevalent in wealthier regions, and historically it has been directed towards black people, although racism against East Asians wasn't rare either. Racism was banned in 1986, during the government of Jarbas Monteiro, the first black prime minister. In 1998 affirmative action was implemented in universities and state institutions. Nowadays, racists are ostracized from society, although racism is still present in some social circles, especially Asian communities.

Racism is not prevalent in Eikotomi though jokes about the different races are made with little seriousness. Actions to incite racial discord and hatred are punishable offences under the Racial Sensitivities Act.

Racism? Nah bruh, we got ourselves some SPECIESISM!

Speciesism, is essentially xenophobia against other species. Due to the MineLegoEquestrian Empire with many different species, the more prevalence type of speciesism is against foreigners, often looked down on as primitives compared to the ever-advancing MineLegoEquestrian state with speed.

Speciesism is constantly attempted to be wiped out, and government incentives are done, however, many steps still must be done to prevent continued speciesism against foreigner species.

((Just to be clear, foreigner species are basically just foreigners, and MineLegoEquestrians simply look down at them with disdain for being stuck in their backwards ways and not paying attention to advance themselves forwards))

Although possessing a racist bias in Twilight Embassy is not itself illegal, refusing to evaluate identified biases will get you put on a government watchlist.

If a racial bias is acted upon in a way that endangers someone's life/rights/well-being/etc., there's a very real possibility the actor could be charged with Treason and put to death.

Speciesism against Sentient A.I., the Undead, and even against humans have similar laws in place, but not with the Engellic and Damonic populace, as both have agreed that they would rather be legally allowed to be at eachother's throats (so long as no one gets caught in the crossfire) then be forced to reach a "fake peace that neither of them want."

Shadowmancers and non-Shadowmancers generally get along, and prejudice between the two is frowned upon, but said prejudice isn't illegal, and the positive relationship the two groups share could be best described as "mutually dependent on eachother in unhealthy, unequal ways."

Race relations between the Baristolans and Wolfians started off good, then got bad for a while, and then were good again for the longest time in Zeganasian history, including the present day.

Ninlaians, being a minority in almost all Zeganasian republics, saw the worst of racism, when there was any. But today, racism has been long eradicated from our national culture.
