Due to the nature of the Freehold and in order to prevent tyranny, Ephyra has not one but two heads of state. These are the Archons of the Freehold, known in High Lacaeronian as a Saesarys, or plural as Saesaryssy. The authority of the Archons is granted by the Senate after they take office, and it is the split powers of the old King of Ephyra. This essentially means that the Archons act with the authority of kings, but are elected and hold public office like presidents. They are therefore considered republican though acting in high nobility, as men who ascend to this positions are greatly admired for that feat alone.

The two current reigning Archons are Lysaron Kessathihir Velareon and Aethon Dekihir Arnaris. Velareon is the nephew of the previous sitting Archon, Aenar Kessathihir Velareon, whilst Arnaris bears no relation to the other previous Archon, Vaedar Skorihir Laeriar.

The direct family of Velareon became quite prominent due to the election campaign, as both Velareon and Arnaris, but the former more so, ran under the promise of restoring traditional virtues and morals to the people of the Freehold alleging their corruption by a growth of Marxist movements in the lower class, as well as the more affluent and decadent abandonment of virtue by the upper citizenry.

Lysaron Kessathihir Velareon is married to a woman, Alia Marihir Velyreos (Maria Velyreos), with whom he has three children. His eldest is his son, and by virtue of naming convention, also shares the name Lysaron. His second eldest child is a daughter, which by tradition in many families, takes the name Ephyra from the priestess-mother of Lakaeron, founder of the Kingdom of Ephyra and the city of Ephyra. The youngest, a second daughter, is called Kassana.

Aethon Dekihir Arnaris is married to Ravella Avasihir Dalareon, and has four children with her. Aethon, Baeserion, Ephyra, and Valyrion. Of the two families, his is the less prominent, though having secured Archon, his position is severely elevated.

The formal title held by Archons, at least within English, is the following: Archon of the Freehold and Father of the State.
