FAQs

What is this for?
Eden is a fictional worldwide map where nations can join freely and request to be mapped (within the bounds and rules of the worldwide map itself. That means no additions). Nations can then use their maps created on here in their factbooks, in roleplay. Nations are free to roleplay openly with other NS nations however it's highly recommended, for the sake of development and character of said nation, that roleplay be focused within the [closed] world of Eden itself. Where you locate your nation, your neighbours, your climate etc. will heavily influence the character and development later on. Sharing a world and engaging with those you share with is essential to growth and development.

The first region I'll be opening up today is Borealis (below), the northern most region with a mild climate, similar to that of Europe. However, nations are free to claim in other parts of the Eden world map but should just specify. Mapping will be within reason (i.e if you claim in a desert-arid area of the world, you're entitled to a larger land claim given the land is not valuable. However, claiming on a mild, temperate, arable land area will limit your size as you'll be competing with more groups).

The minimum information needed for your nation:

Nation Name:
Capital:

**Optional**
Largest city(s):
States, Provinces:
Climate:

What is your experience?
Without going into too much detail, I founded my own role play region for about 7 years and helped run it with many other roleplayers. At it's peak we had about 45 active roleplayers and it'd be fair to say it was one of the more active and population roleplaying communities in nationstates at the time. I had since taken a break from that life years ago but with the lockdown... some downtime and other circumstances, I'm back to get into it. I was always the core map designer - world builder then and I'd like to think much of my work has been copied and carried on (which isn't a bad thing, I'm not looking to keep creative license or anything, just for people to have fun). I've always been a modern-tech RPer. My defination of this are any technologies from the present to, at max, 20 years in the future (so we can speculate future technologies within two decades maximum).

Climate maps

We'll be basing our climate maps on the real life Koppen Climate Classification.

***Update 1/05/2020***

Added Sorlyset as partner cartographer and world-builder.

Will this be open-world or another closed off RP group? IF it's Open world I'd be very interested in working with you and the lazarus people.

I'm not sure what you mean by open-world?

The map is open to all. The roleplay will only be with other nations on this map, to make sense with regards to location etc. But it's roleplay on this forum, open to all?

This is the gameplay forum my fellow. You'll probably want to travel to Factbooks and National Information or have this moved there. Gameplay isn't a very nice subforum ngl. Further by 'open-world' I mean you roleplay on the NS forums with people from other regions, accepting their canon, etc.

Well, there's a reason why I posted on here, to get guidance on where to start. The forums aren't really clear but happy to move whetherever most suited.

My problem with the roleplay forum, it's only or [IC] posts? We're posted OOC here discussion and planning the world map. Likewise, if there's a better forum, I may repost.

Then it's closed world I suppose.

In that case, why not become Lazarus' cartographer? I'm sure the region won't say 'no' to more activities.

I'd be interested in participating. Is there still room on the map for my nation to be in a warm climate with a coastline?

Nobody has claimed yet. I'm trying to gather interest, confirm where to post. If you want to note down your interest, great! You can copy part of the map and outline your borders then post back.

I'll note this is a majority temperate - oceanic region but most regions are not. The next one will be tropical.

I'm happy to just draw out borders myself as well. Although I feel for aesthetics sake, it's better for members to draw out their own borders.... makes the map look more realistic. I tend to draw in patterns so the nations end up looking identical.

That is a great patch. I shall map it for you. Should take a few days.

I'll note that it's within the subtropical latitudes, so the climate, ecosystems will be similar to that of Mexico, Southern Brazil, The state of Queensland (Australia) with some semi-area sections (deserts).

Look,

I'm just going to start mapping for any nations at request. If the claims are too large or unreasonable, I'll try and compromise as best as possible. I'm usually fine with large plot claims outside of temperate, mild regions..... especially if we're taking deserts. Naturally, nations will be larger if over desert-arid areas given the land is sparsley populated.

Lets keep the claims coming guys.

Also look, I'll open up this world to other RPs. It's a map to be freely claimed on! I just love drawing maps!

Claiming a spot

Postby Blektland » Tue Apr 14, 2020 5:35 pm

Hello everybody, Cianlandia here. This will be my nation for the rp, and I've claimed a spot on that northeastern peninusla, but alas I have a crappy pc that cannot edit, so New Adelsin is kindly mapping my spot.

Updated 15/04/2020

Added in: Blekland Cialandia and Laredo-

Laredo-, I've given your nation a decent portion of the southern most, warmer area of Borealis. The coastal area is mediterranean while the inland south (Crockett and Nuevo Leon) is subtropical. It's as warm as you'll get here. I may re-arrange your nation again if you want somewhere warmer, more tropic.

Blekland, keep in mind the majority of your nation is cold - tundra to the north. The coast areas are maritime, much like that of St Johns or Halifax in Canada. The majority of your population, major urban centres, will be on the coast where it's warmest.

You can find some of the town names for Almadaria in my overview; such as the capital Piedratórres, Campos de Melaza, or Macotera

I'm limited to how much information I can add in the larger map along with others. For more detailed maps, I leave it up to the nations to manage (i.e anything beyond the capital and national name. I could maybe fit in provinces as I do but this depends).

I'm happy to send enlarged template outlines (like the below) of your map and you can place the town names, area names (mountains, rivers etc.) yourself. I can then add these detailed maps to the database in the original post. I'm happy to 'clean up' maps or make them look presentable if you want to do some rough work on them, add in locations etc.

The capital will do for now, thanks! And don't worry about the climate-- works out perfectly for this nation

The spot and climate is good, thanks!
Could you please let me know what level of detail I can choose as far as map labels? Sorry, I just don't know how to edit stuff like this myself.

I would like to claim a dense forest region that is landlocked. I am open to being placed any where that fits those requirements. The plot does not have to be big but I would like a reasonable size.

I would like to claim an archipelago. The primary feature is dense rainforest, so tropical would be ideal. Placement otherwise is up to you. My nation’s lore is very self contained but not isolationist for the most part, including a barebones conlang, and so would fit in basically anywhere. Capital is Alguaooesa, or Alguaooesa-om, though there’s a good chance it would just be listed as Alguaooesa.

Issrak-om I've got the perfect plot for you:

Image

I'll make a start on that map as well. Thanks for giving me the name of your capital. Do you have a name for your nation? Also, are you a Republic, Commonwealth or Federal system? If the two latters, do you have the name of your States? Or are you just happy for me to name them?

debussy I can make up a map in Borealis easy. You'll probably border my nation, Elan. Do you have a name for your country and a Capital city? If not, happy to make one up for you myself? If I am to make up one, will it be an Anglosaxon nation, Slavic Nation, Nordic, Japanese, Chinese based etc.?
