The government started a national airline called Winian Civilian Air in 1957. In 1983, it became Winian Airways and went
international. It also has a subsidiary called WinianAir.

There are plenty of private airlines, including Air Deco and Seven Seas Airlines.

Independent Airlines is largest and best equipped airlines in the country, privately owned and founded in 1948. (International)
Borovje Air is 2nd largest and state-run airlines. Founded in 1934. (International)
Royal Wings is owned by recently abdicated royal family, it is not as large as the first two airlines but it is rather luxurius and noted for its safety, usually a choice of wealthier passengers. Founded in 1921. (International)

Borovje Express (Regional, Domestic), Tollier Airways (Domestic), and Aerospeed (Domestic) are smaller and cheaper privately owned airlines.

Brachyuria has banned the use of planes since 1913, when Sodie III, the ruling queen at the time, declared that they were "Dark mechanical homages to the accursed seagull menace and their dastardly ilk."

A bit of background that will help make a bit more sense out of the above:

-Brachyuria's state enforced religion involves the worship of crabs (The crustacean, not the pubic louse. And no, you're not by any means the first one to make that connection)
-Seagulls, being the young crab's nemesis, are hated by all
-At some point, this hatred of seagulls passed on to pretty much anything with wings that is loud

Needless to say, this has had some adverse effects on efficient transport of goods and passengers in modern Brachyurian society.

There are no airlines in Pickled Tinkistan, as planes are illegal. We enforce this law with anti-aircraft fire. Commercial airliners are very careful to stay away from us since we shot a few of them down as spies.

There was an air force originally, however the native aggressive megafauna is attracted to the sounds of engines and it proved too much of a danger to protect them. Incidentally, this is the same reason behind the banning of automobiles.

In theory, there is one airline company alone - Lopţa Okari, Ochrian Aviation, which is operated by the state.

In practice, however, this is an umbrella company that is partially run by the state, and partially composed of several regional subdivisions that are part-privately capitalised for areas where there is demand for flights.

So if you're flying to Ochry, it will be on a publically-financed flight - but if you choose to fly from region to region (usually on lighter-than-aircraft like blimps and airships), it'll most likely be a private concession taking you there.

Our biggest airline, and the national "flagship" service, is called Green Star Lines (see storefront in sig). We use advanced airships for most of our domestic (and international) flights, so you can actually get up and walk around and don't have to be confined to a seat all the time.

The interesting part about Green Star Lines is that they actually started as a transoceanic passenger liner company, and still maintain several ocean-going ships. These days, though, the ships are cruise liners rather than old-style workhorse liners, but they do still exist. Green Star Shipping is the cargo-handling subsidiary.
