Politics has always played a part in our lives. It is the driving motor behind the birth of all nations, and leads to their longevity and end.

Politics in Deacarsia are very cordial and gentlemanly. The government is dominated by the right-wing Tory Party, with the much smaller Whig Party works to keep the government free of corruption. The Deacarsic monarchy is a major institution which keeps governmental power in check. Since Deacarsia is a rather homogeneous nation, politics are far less divisive than in other countries.

Fairly stable - or, at the least, uncontroversial. The right-wing parties have organised a coalition large enough for a majority (as has been the case for the past five years), but there remains some minor controversy, shambles and occasional schism as ever.

Hectic. Alliances constantly change and shift between moderate liberals, moderate conservatives, liberals, conservatives and other factions.

Stable, perhaps even too stable. Our worst recent controversies are considered 'business as usual' by international standards.

Postby Prydania » Mon Mar 30, 2020 6:59 pm

Prydania was a fascist state from 1984 until 2002, when the fascist Social Commonwealth Party was overthrown by the radical Syndicalist Party. The Syndicalists' gross economic mismanagement and litany of human rights abuses lead to a civil war and a Royalist restoration.

Elections were held a year later, and the field was dominated by the centre-right Conservative-Agrarian Alliance and the centre-left Free Democratic Party. The social democratic People's Party only managed two seats.

All in all? Prydania's experiences have made extremism on either end rather unattractive. Centrism tends to play better in a country that's just looking to return to some form of normalcy.

Pretty much the same as most western democracies.

There are two main political parties (used to be more but eventually they became two - the broadly centre-left Social Democratic Union and the broadly centre-right Liberal-Conservative Party.)

Each party has some moderates who will try to work across the isle and talk about bipartisanship and some loony extremists who will come along every once in a while to fuck things up.

Historically, Radiatians have been pretty apathetic toward politics - it's considered a good election year if more than half bother going out to vote, and those who are political have a tendency to be more extreme (and considerably less sane) than the average apolitical Radiatian.

Different & unique. Because Zhouran follows its own unique stratocratic system, the country's political landscape is unlike that of any other. Compared to other nations that use the Left–Right Political Spectrum, Zhouran on the other hand uses its own Moderate–Hardline Political Spectrum instead. Also, one thing Zhouranese politics is widely known for worldwide would be the massive large-scale torch-burning political rallies conducted by both the political-moderate & political-hardline and numbering at the hundreds of thousands up to even a million, and these political rallies are known to most likely end up devolving into extremely-violent street wars that makes all the protests in the west look like a playground fight at a primary school.

Quite conservative, even reactionary, on social and religious issues. Afonso Salazar's ultimate plan for Portugal is to fully restore things to the way they were, back in the "good old days" of the Crusades and Inquisitions. Basically, he wants to completely undo the progress and societal changes brought about by the Enlightenment, as liberalism and secularism (and all their offshoots like democracy, socialism, higher education, science, etc) are 100 % evil in his view, and incompatible with his vision of a state ruled by Christian morality and tradition. So liberal or radical ideas are met with nothing but hostility.

Economically, this nation is small-scale capitalist, favoring local merchants, craftsmen and farmers. Globalization is viewed with extreme suspicion, and there are many strict rules that foreign companies have to follow if they want to do business in the Holy Catholic State. Local companies are regulated far less. Particularly, there aren't any requirements for accessibility, inclusiveness or minimum wage–only basic safety and environmental standards. In addition, labor unions are illegal, and striking is punishable with jail time. So employers wield a great deal of power in hiring, firing and disciplining workers (including with the use of corporal punishment).

Danavaria has been fairly politically stable since the return of democracy in 1964. The political landscape is dominated by two parties, the Democratic Conservatives and the Social Democrats, although there also many other smaller parties. The Democratic Conservatives favour free markets and moderate civic nationalism, and although not totally opposed to social reforms tend to view them with caution. They also tend to support a larger role for the federal government. The Social Democrats, on the other hand, are in favour of more regulated markets and stronger protections for workers' rights, and have historically been protectionist, but in the last twenty years have become more pro-free trade (particularly with the EU). They generally support more autonomy for state governments.

Politics in Danavaria is less polarised than many other western countries at the moment, with both sides of the politically divide still generally committed to democratic ideals and social liberalism. This means that political discussion is usually able to remain civil.

The current political atmosphere is... unstable. Pro-African commies always find themselves being slaughtered at the hands of the Prime Minister's personal death squads, but still, the people continue to rise up fruitlessly against the one true government.

So basically, the political atmosphere is: BLACK BAD! GLORIOUS COLONIAL HERITAGE GOOD!

Quite unstable. Every decade or so the ruling coalition changes, and politicians changing parties is pretty common. Former Prime Minister Augusto Araujo have been part of four different parties before moving to the Conservative Party, even if he never identified as a conservative. The nation is divided between the Conservative party and the Liberal Party, but in recent years other parties have been performing better. In the 2021 general elections, the Conservatives, for the first time in history, was surpassed by another party that is not the Liberal Party.

Conservative parties currently dominate Brazilian politics, even in the municipal sphere. Radicalism is on the rise, especially after the wave of violence caused by the 2010 general election, which forced the Emperor to remove the Prime Minister to calm down the population. The 2020 civil war was short but sufficiently long to destroy many parties, including centenary ones, like the New Republic Party and the Integralist Party. After the armistice signed between the conservatives and the communists, the communist party saw a sharp rise in popularity. And, if the trend continues, it will surpass the Liberals as the main party of opposition, just like the National Liberals surpassed the Conservatives as the main party of the governmental coalition.

Fairly stable. Sao Nova Europa has a system of checks and balances that prevents abuses and the various states have broad autonomy. There is wide consensus around the welfare state, high taxation for the wealthy and social liberalism.

Although the current government coalition is center-right, led by the European People's Party (center-right/major party) and including as minor partners the Liberal Party (classical liberals), the Agrarian Front and the Pensioners' Party, the government is enacting a mostly center-left economic and social agenda (even raising income taxation and increasing welfare spending). As such, there is generally little political infighting on the economy or on social issues.

The main points of contention with the Social Democrats (the other major party) and the Greens are law enforcement, military spending and foreign policy. The EPP has allowed the police to have great leeway with regards to enforcing law and order while the SD believe that the police is too militarized. The EPP supports increased military spending while the SD want spending cuts. The EPP has a neoconservative foreign agenda, favoring military interventions, while the SD are generally opposed to interventionism.

The National Front, a right-wing populist party, is the only political force in Sao Nova Europa that challenges the status quo, but mostly on social issues and they have little electoral (and, thus, media) influence while the more radical parties (Communists and National Socialists) are generally ignored in public debate.

Postby Lillorainen » Tue Mar 31, 2020 12:20 pm

Since the Federation of Lillorainen is a one-party state, politics are generally dominated by the Meritocratic Unity Party (albeit there are Independent Members of the Chamber of States as well as of state legislatures). Although there are some controversies amongst Party Members on a few things, especially economic, social, and environmental policies, the political debate is generally considered fruitful and civil, as well as rational and logical, a spirit strongly desired by most Party Members and the Lillorainian people alike. As a result, politics isn't anywhere near as strongly polarized as in many Western countries. Foreigners often tend to perceive the political process in Lillorainen as rather cold and somewhat technocratic, overly rational, ruthlessly efficient, but also pragmatic and visibly with the people's interests in mind.

While in former days, concerns expressed in the Meritocratic Council and the Chamber of States were usually the balance of administrative power between the Federal Government and the State Governments, a major point nowadays is Lillorainen's role in the region and the world, in particular when it comes to foreign policy (as the Federation has mostly given up its formerly strictly neutral stance), trade and commerce, military and the responsibilities military power comes along with, as well as other challenges of the future.
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

Politics in Zeganas is a softcore tug of war between the ideological tenets of centrist liberalism and democratic socialism. There are three major parties that tug on this rope. The United Republican Party is the centrist liberal party while the Democratic Socialist party is self explanatory. The Social Democratic party is right in between but sides with the Democratic Socialist party more often.

Swindenland is very stable, because our system is based on random selection and division of power, we believe that sortition is the most fair method of selecting who should rule, it prevents corruption, because we constantly change random people in power and it prevents the nation from swinging left-right or to extremes.

A sample of randomly chosen citizens (all without exceptions are eligible, but have the right to refuse their seat), who undergo a month in parliamentary training before entering Parliament, ensures that political parties play only a minor role, faces are constantly changing, politics is based on content not faces, non-power hungry people rule the parliament and that the parliament is exactly proportional to the population it represents ths is especially important to us, because multiple sentinet species live on Swindenland. Activists and experts are invited to parliament where they present their cases before the parliament votes on issues.

The executive is very academic, because only people with masters or PhD degrees may be selected by the lottery to become ministers and even then they have to be confirmed by parliament and can be removed anytime. Noone is important, because we don't have a president and all ministers rule collectively. when a new government is appointed it makes a policy agreement with the parliament for consistency.

The judiciary is made of randomly selected judges and is hence very neutral.

Referendums are very common, like in Switzerland and all pressing matters are decided with a public vote. Oftentimes there is a law veto referendum, but these rarely pass, because the parliament already proportionally represents the opinion of the wider public.

Overall Swindenland is politically left-wing. Individual freedom, liberties and rights mean a lot to people, so it is unsurprising that many things are legal, including nudity, drugs and markets are free. Education is cherished above all else that's why we spend so much money on it. Equality is very important, thus unsurprisingly all companies are owned by their employees, and all minorities are protected, inheritance is frowned upon and we have a extensive welfare state. Progressive ideas, such as UBI, trans rights and genderless toilets immediately take hold. The government is decentralised.

Swindenland is distinctively aggressively irreligious, our constitution recognises Swindenland as a irreligious state with freedom of religion and freedom from religion, but the state actively discourages religion and is financing and supporting secular movements abroad.
