And? Most modern SAMs travel at speeds much higher than that. In fact, I think the RIM-161 travels at over twice that speed.

EDIT: To further add, the Russian S-400 is claimed to be a Mach 12 capable SAM, making it four times faster than the SR-71.

True, i forgot that. But the SR-71 was a good recon vehicle, but its not a fighter plane.

I wish I could freehand aircraft with a Wacom Tablet :(

Hell, or google sketch them :p

Anyway...

Here are a list of aircraft

Primary Light Bomber: http://cnc.wikia.com/wiki/Aurora_Alpha

Primary Heavy Bomber: http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/b2/

Primary Attack Helicopter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AH-1Z_Viper

Primary Transport (Rotary): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_CH-47_Chinook

Primary Transport (Fixed Wing): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_C-5_Galaxy

Primary Gunship: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_AC-130

Primary Fighter-Interceptor:

Class: FI-101 Hawk Superiority Fighter

Image

Type: Fighter/Interceptor

Length: 18 Meters
Width (wingspan): 12 Meters
Width (hull): 8 Meters
Height: 6 Meters

Role: Anti-Fighter/Anti-Bomber
Propulsion: 2 General Electric YJ93 Engines
Weapons: 2 30 mm Marauder Cannons, 2 Missile Rotary Launchers (Long Range Air-to-Air, Endurance Dogfight Missiles, Medium Range Air-to-Ground)
Defense: Countermeasure Flares, Stealth Capabilities

Performance

Maximum speed: Mach 3.1 (Achieved in test flights)
At sea level: Mach 1.8
Cruise speed: Mach 2.1
Range: 3,300 km (2,050 mi)
Service ceiling: 20,000 m (65,616.80 ft)
Rate of climb: 233 m/s (46,200 ft/min)
Wing loading: 360 kg/m² (79.4 lb/ft²)
Thrust/weight: 1.18 when fully loaded,1.15 when empty

Designed with speed and aerodynamics in mind, the FI-101 is a force to be reckoned with, it has been tested against the F-35 and proven itself by being up to 5x better than the Multi-Role Fighter, this is a stealth fighter, due to the materials and aerodynamics of the craft.

Primary Multi-Role Fighter:

Class: MRF- 105 Sparrow Multi-Role Fighter

Image
(Image Created By Ramsetia, Thanks!)

Type: Fighter/Multi-Role

Length: 14 Meters
Width (wingspan): 12 Meters
Width (hull): 8 Meters
Height: 6 Meters

Role: Anti-Fighter/Anti-Bomber
Propulsion: 2 General Electric YJ93 Engines
Weapons: 2 30 mm Marauder Cannons, 2 Missile Rotary Launchers (Long Range Air-to-Air, Endurance Dogfight Missiles, Medium Range Air-to-Ground)
Defense: Countermeasure Flares, Stealth Capabilities

Performance

Maximum speed: Mach 2.8 (Achieved in test flights)
At sea level: Mach 1.5
Cruise speed: Mach 1.9
Range: 3,300 km (2,050 mi)
Service ceiling: 18,000 m (59,050 ft)
Rate of climb: 233 m/s (46,200 ft/min)
Wing loading: 360 kg/m² (79.4 lb/ft²)
Thrust/weight: 1.18 when fully loaded,1.15 when empty

Unlike standard Delta-Wing Aircraft, the Sparrow's designers redesigned several aspects of the aircraft.

Using the same mesh as the F-117 to apply a flat surface over the air intakes without obstructing airflow, the MRF-105's design includes a more trapezoidal shape, similar to the YF-23, and angled the tailplanes outward for a more useful control surface. The turbine exhausts are cowled in a heat-resistant material from below to limit the thermal signature of the craft when viewed from the ground, due to the aircraft's purpose of low-observability. There are only two air intakes, but their leading edge is split by the wing to give it the appearance it has.

While not as fast as the Hawk Interceptor, the Sparrow Multi-Role Fighter has enough bite to take on most next generation aircraft. It is a force to be reckoned with.

Even now, the extreme height and speed of A-12 derived airframes will seriously downsize the probable kill radius of any SAM, which will make a difference unless the enemy is shooting like, ABM missiles at you. The days of being able to just fly over enemy air defenses with impunity is long gone, but that hardly makes the plane "dreadfully obsolete".

In the days of satellite reconnaissance and modern SAMs, the SR-71 is dreadfully obsolete. If however, you are using it as a fighter, use the YF-12 because it can actually carry weapons. Either way its a bad Idea. (Although I will admit I use the YF-12, it was adopted in its original role as an interceptor and remains in service as an aggressor trainer standing in for hypersonic high altitude enemy bombers and re-entering suborbital strike aircraft.)

YF-12 is utterly fantastic at what it does, and there is literally no comparable aircraft.

It's an interceptor meant to intercept enemy strategic bomber wings while they are still thousands of miles away from the country being defended. It is a purpose-built purebred with a cruise (cruise!) speed of over mach three, a big fucking radar, and big fucking nuke-tipped AAMs to enable it to take out whole stratbomber squadrons with every missile. A modernized update would be absurd.

Actually the YF-12 didn't carry nukes. Although You might be able to slap a AIM-26 in instead of the AIM-47, as they're smiliar in size. And my country hasn't really updated them much, just done maintnence to keep them flying.

The reference to the YF-12 carrying nuclear-tipped warheads was a knowing exaggeration for effect ( :p ), albeit one that is certainly plausible; the AIM-47 could accept a nuclear warhead, but that particular aspect was canceled for political reasons.

In the plan view, your aerial is penetrating up through the cockpit window. Both versions.

Personally, I kinda like the V12. With that long front end, it doesn't look so much like a Hellcat ripoff.

Thanks for spotting the aerial... that's why I shouldn't post art I made while intoxicated...

It's only about half the size of a Hellcat. It's really more based on Italian and Russian fighters.

Try Yak 9 + radial engine. :ugeek:

Anyways, I like this a lot, enough it's made me want to design a heavy fighter.

Damn copycat, I've been working on a near identical aircraft for the past week, although mine is larger anbuilt for the CAS/FAC role. Wings are lesss swept and mounted much higeher, I've got contra-rotating props, 2 vertical tailplane on the engine nacelles and 14 hardpoints for 6 1/2 tons of weapons. I'm working on doing a clearer drawing, and will upload later this week.

Now what I really want to see is there's this british declassified report that stated that most UFO sightings could be boiled down to sightings of 3 US black projects the Blackbird, The_________ and the __________. I'm betting that lockheed built on of those ________ and that they look awesome.
