What is the drinking age in your nation and why?
Piratini does not have a minimum age for drinking alcohol, but the minimum age for purchasing alcohol is 21.

How strictly enforced is it?
It is enforced only if you do not have an alcohol license, a document necessary for selling alcohol. But then, the shop owner would be persecuted for not having a license, and not for selling it to minors. Some police officers, however, do choose to enforce the laws.

Also, did your nation always have the drinking age it does now?
No. It didn't have a minimum age for alcohol purchase until 1895.

Excellent! A new target for liquor smuggling.

Federally, there is no minimum age. States may have their own laws, and those which set a limit usually go for eighteen years, same as with tobacco, marijuana, cocaine, sex, things like that, all with circumstantial loopholes.

How strictly enforced is it?

Federally? Rigorously. The government aggressively does not give a shit.

Also, did your nation always have the drinking age it does now?

It was 21 for a while, but we abolished that because the courts ruled the national government didn't have the right to set such a limit.

In my experience, ultra-realists in RP tend to be the sort of people who see an RP as a contest to be won, rather than a story to be told, but because they lack honestly any story-writing ability, they seek to lawyer their way to a victory by drowning everybody in statistics and demanding everything run strictly by a laundry list of statistics and figures they dig out of obscure field manuals and tech magazines.

What is the drinking age in your nation and why?
In the Federal Republic of Shamsiyya, the legal age of purchasing alcohol is 14, while there is no official minimum age of consumption. The reason for this age being as low as this might partially root in the old, almost Ancient laws most age barriers in Shamsiyya come from, partially also from the historically relaxed attitude towards alcohol in general.

How strictly enforced is it?
Not very strictly. Unless you look like a cub, you mostly won't have trouble purchasing alcohol in any store, bar, or restaurant.

What age do you have to be to sell or serve alcohol in your nation?
14 (working age).

Also, did your nation always have the drinking age it does now?
The current age was set in 1962. Before that, it varied on a local level, even while most parts of Shamsiyya didn't have a minimum age of purchasing alcohol altogether. Yet, as stated above, it has always been rather poorly enforced ever since.

There is no federal drinking age in Radiatia; it differs from state to state and is set by state governments (you can see it on the map).

The most common drinking age is 17, as this is the federal age of majority - it is unconstitutional to discriminate against anyone over this age or deny them the sale of a product based on age.

Several states have no drinking age at all and two states have prohibition in effect.

18 years old. Supplying, facilitating or inducing the minors to consumption of an alcoholic beverage is punished by fine, community sentence, or penalty up to 2 years in prison. Drinking in public is not forbidden, but getting drunk is punished by 100 MD fine.

What is the drinking age in your nation and why? The drinking age is fourteen, and the purchasing age is sixteen. However, people of any age can legally drink with a "responsible" adult making sure they don't go too far.

How strictly enforced is it? Literally not enforced at all. The police have bigger problems, and they were underage drinkers too.

What age do you have to be to sell or serve alcohol in your nation? To sell alcohol, any age. Wine stands are as common as lemonade stands in Ruritane. To serve alcohol, one must be sixteen, although that is due to laws about child labor.

Did your nation always have the drinking age it does now? No. In the fifties, when Ruritane was briefly Americanized, the drinking age changed to 21. Ruritanaises protested in front of government buildings to get the drinking age changed back from this ludicrous oldness. It was quickly changed back to fourteen.

Why? I'd say it's because Ruritane is French, but these lax drinking laws are more German.

What is the drinking age in your nation and why? There is no drinking age at the federal or prefecture levels. Most prefectures restrict the purchase of anything harder than beer to people 15 and older. The actual consumption of alcohol by minors is up to the parents. Beer itself is placed in the same category as soft drinks.

How strictly enforced is it? Not very. It doesn't really have to be because if it's discovered that a seller is selling vodka to 14 year olds, they'll develop a bad reputation quickly and their adult customers who can actually buy a lot with their own money will abandon them.

The provinces of the NAU have a variety of drinking ages, from 18-21, and even a few provinces have different ages for the different kinds of alcoholic beverages (beer, wine, and spirits; 18-21).

The Viriden drinking age is set by each of the four provinces. Across all provinces, one can consume alcohol with a guardian's premission at age 16 (except for one province, which is 15). The purchasing and public drinking age is 15, 16, 17, and 17 for the four provinces. Note that 17 is the age of adulthood in Viridest, and the Constitution prohobits discrimination against adults, which is why there is no drinking age above 17.

ID must be presented if a consumer looks under 25, and anyone can sell alcohol if they are of working age (15) and legally employed.

Most sellers don't bother asking for ID because a sale is a sale, but law enforcement agencies will confront someone if they are publicly drinking and they are underage.

Drinking ages were first introduced in the Viriden states by the Sale, Supply, and Consumption of Alcohol Act 1763, which gave provinces the power to set drinking ages (and made them set drinking ages).
Viridest is a small island nation located just west of mainland Europe.

What is the drinking age in your nation and why?

The drinking age on private property is between 6-8 years old, whilst in public it is 16 for wine and beer, with the age for spirits set at 18. These ages reflect the cultural traditions of the country, with its liberal attitudes towards drinking, especially in social settings. The older age for spirits in public is related to higher alcohol content and to encourage a more balanced approach to alcohol, amongst younger citizens. This also means that most bars may have an entry age of 16, whereas for cocktail bars and nightclubs it is higher at 18.

How strictly enforced is it?

In private, enforcement is rather lax, and unless a child comes to harm, the state prosecution authority will unlikely intervene. In public, ID checks are usually undertaken, in both the state alcohol monopoly (compulsory for anyone who looks under 23) and at the door of nightclub and bars (encouraged plus legal responsibility)

What age do you have to be to sell or serve alcohol in your nation?

16 years old or 18 years old.

Also, did your nation always have the drinking age it does now?

No, in 1879, federal public drinking age of 16 set, before age varied on department from none in at least 70% of states up to 20 in 3 of the more conservative departments. In 1928, with the failed prohibition referendum, which resulted in the set up of the alcohol monopoly, the age for spirits was increased to 20, before reduction to 18 in 1949. Drinking age on private property was required from 1879 too, although departments could determine own age (with lower limit of 5 years of age).

What is the drinking age in your nation and why?
The Shikonjimanese Realm does not have a nationwide drinking age in theory, as the Fiefdoms set these ages. In practice, most Counties and Baronies have set it at 14 over the time; only the County of Ikazuchi, as well as the Baronies of Sagerou, Murakomo, Kagerou, and Oboro have it at 15, and the Counties of Kantoride and Betoshima as well as the Barony of Hibiki have it at 16. The recently reincoporated Duchies of the Ferinan-Archipelago have it at 14, with the exception of Yayoi, where it's 15.

How strictly enforced is it?
This may vary depending on where you are, but in general, Shikonjima can be surprisingly lenient with it.

What age do you have to be to sell or serve alcohol in your nation?
Theoretically, zero. Practically, one must be above working age, which is 15 nationwide.

Did your nation always have the drinking age it does now?
Some places did, many did not. As feudal lords/ladies are free to set the drinking age on their territories freely (with 16 being the maximum, as it is the age of majority nationwide), it used to vary a bit more until the 1980s, where most fiefdoms lowered it from 15/16 to 14, some (like the Counties of Akebono, Miyuki, and Shiratsuyu) also haven't had any drinking age previously.
The Barony of Karishima had a total prohibition from 1919 to 1922, which was lifted after the rise of organized crime as well as a wave of protests; the drinking age was set at 16 and lowered to 14 in 1935. The Barony of Heiya was the only Shikonjimanese territory where the drinking age has ever exceeded 16 (it was 17 from 1947 to 1948), but due to the reason mentioned above (as Shikonjimanese believe, that it is highly inconsistent and illogical to set drinking and/or smoking ages higher than the age of legal adulthood), it was reduced to 15.

What is the drinking age in your nation and why? There is no legal drinking age in Arthropol, but an individual must be 16 years old to purchase alcohol. Parents are expected to control whether their children are allowed to drink alcohol or not although it is recommended that children under 14 should not drink alcohol.

How strictly enforced is it? Vendors of alcohol are legally required to check national ID cards for those who look 16 or under. However, this is not commonly enforced on lighter forms of alcohol like beer or wine, but usually enforced on heavier forms of alcohol like vodka and spirits.

What age do you have to be to sell or serve alcohol in your nation? 16.

What is the drinking age in your nation and why?

Consumption of alcohol is heavily regulated among Kawaiians, but we really don't have a minimum drinking age per se. The closest thing to it would be the age of legal adulthood, which isn't fixed but is based on the individual in question demonstrating to his elders that he can assume adult responsibilities. A Kawaiian boy who hasn't reached legal adulthood can still imbibe as long as he's with his adult relatives and has their permission.

Note the term "boy". One of our more controversial (to non-Kawaiians) regulations about alcohol is that it is restricted to males only. Kawaiian women of any age are forbidden to drink.

How strictly enforced is it?

Very strictly, although Kawaiians consider underage drinking to be an offense of disobeying one's elders rather than partaking in an forbidden activity. A woman caught drinking in public is an occasion of scandal, which could involve charges being brought against any number of people associated with it. Thus, it's not unheard of for some Kawaiian women to be rumored to have a little nip on the side, though none would dare be caught doing it.

Did your nation always have the drinking age it does now?

Pretty much, the Kawaiian laws on alcohol are religious-based (like nearly everything else Kawaiian), and date back to antiquity.

If Libertygrad is reading this, the drinking age is the age at which you are allowed to consume alcohol.

In response to the four six OPly questions: Eighteen in public but five on private property*; enforced harshly in public but not at all in private (with good reason :P); no age restrictions are imposed by the municipal government; eighteen and eighteen; yes; yes (even during the dark days of Communism!).

Roedean's drinking age is twenty in most states and twenty-one in a few. It is mostly strictly enforced with most sellers being required to card for all alcohol purchases, although some places, such as restaurants, may be exempted from the requirement to card.

On the other hand, to sell alcohol, you have to be at least sixteen years of age, and to serve alcohol, you have to be at least fourteen years of age. However, to own a liquor store or other business that sells alcohol, you must be at least eighteen years of age.

The drinking age is determined for each state by a local referendum. The issue is indeed controversial, and is the topic of constant debate and scrutiny. It is generally argued that the current system should be maintained as it's effective at de-normalising alcohol, preventing drinking by teenagers, and reducing road fatalities caused by drunk driving.

It should also be mentioned that letting a child who is under the age of eighteen drink alcohol at home is considered totally unacceptable, and parents can be prosecuted for child abuse if they let their children drink alcohol.

The drinking age historically was eighteen in most states, but was raised to twenty in the 1980s due to problems with drunk driving and drinking among high school students.

To consume it is recommended that you be 26.
It is allowed at 23.
You must be at least 25 to sell

It is not directly enforced but maintained through standards.

The drinking age used to be lower, at 18, but recent reform rose it to above the third stage of education.

What is the drinking age in your nation and why? Alcohol, as well as all recreational drugs, are strictly banned in all non-medical contexts because of the numerous adverse health effects and social problems it causes.

How strictly enforced is it? Selling, buying, possession and consumption are all banned. The penalty in all cases is death. The execution is not public. The ban is enforced very strictly even by Aryaxian standards. The extremely strong government influence in every area of daily life (including the economy) facilitates harsh enforcement.

What age do you have to be to sell or serve alcohol in your nation? It is illegal for recreational purposes; offenders are executed. For medical purposes, the minimum age is technically 18, but in practice higher because of educational requirements. All legal alcohol transactions are recorded by the government - prior permission is required through a government online service, which generates a unique code that allows buying medical alcohol-based products only once. Intrusive surveillance and the threat of extreme penalties deter most citizens from ever engaging in alcohol selling.

Did your nation always have the drinking age it does now? Prior to 1958, when the current regime rose to power, no laws regulated alcohol at all. Its consumption has never been culturally popular in Aryax anyway.

What is the drinking age in your nation and why? The drinking age is 18. As 18 is the maturity age.

How strictly enforced is it? To buy alcohol you must show your ID card or any other official document with photo to prove you're 18. If you don't look clearly you're over 18 the seller can (must) deny to sell you alcohol. It the police catches someone under 18 getting alcohol, betting or buying tobacco. Both buyer and seller will or be fined. Also if the buyer gets it unidentified and is not clearly over 21. If you are wearing alcohol with you and the police stops you if you are under 18 the police can take it from you if the police believes it will be for you.

What age do you have to be to sell or serve alcohol in your nation? Over 16 is the working legal age. In supermarkets, bars and liquor shops (unless is your familiar business in that case it can be 14, exception, during school hours). But to work during night shifts, from 22h to 8h, like in pubs or clubs you must be over 18.

Did your nation always have the drinking age it does now? Before it was 16 for drinking spirits under 23° and 18 for liquors of 23° and over. Now is 18 for everyone.
Socially at home is normal for parents allow minors to drink small quantities of soft liquors as: Beer, wine or vermouth.
