The 2020 Elections to the National Council and Parliament of Valentian Elysium
Elections for the National Council and Parliament of Valentian Elysium are to be held in Valentian Elysium on the 21st March 2020, after 4 years passed since the last parliamentary election. All 450 seats will be contested. The polls will close on the 21st March 2020, at 21:00 GMT, and any vote afterwards will not be counted.
The final results from the Valentian-Elysian General Election in 2016
Background
In 2016, voters went once again to the polls in Valentian Elysium, with all 10 parties contesting for seats. In the end, 34% of voters voted for the Social Democratic Party, gaining 151 seats, with the main Opposition party becoming the Conservative Party with around 20% of the vote, gaining 89 seats. The Central Valentian Elysium party made surprising gains, winning one less seat than the Conservative Party. The Green Party came in fourth place, gaining only 78 seats with 17% of the vote. The Christian Democratic Union of Valentian Elysium and Pirate Party came in 5th and 6th, only receiving 5% of the vote and 23 and 21 seats respectively. The other 4 parties were unable to pass the 4% threshold. After weeks of debate, the Social Democratic Party managed to create a coalition government with the Green Party, passing the vote of confidence, and got appointed by the Holy Emperor.
In 2018, Progressive Valentian Elysium launched, after some people were reportedly frustrated about how no major party pursues progressivism as a main topic. It appeals to all voters, and is now comfortably polling in the opinion polls. In 2019, The Homeland's Pride, unhappy with how "the constitution was not applied to everyone equally", launched. Its constitutional and borderline far-right agenda has worried a few in Valentian Elysium.
Electoral System
Valentian Elysium uses a open list proportional representation with a 4% election threshold Hagenbach-Bischoff system, a variant of the D'Hondt method, to determine the number of seats allocated to each party. No electoral college exists.
