Our Nation has several stages of education depending on what the family of the student can afford. These are described below.

-----

Stage I: Basic Competency (corresponds to primary education in most nations)
-Kanotran language level I
-Arithmetic
-Physical fitness
-Natural sciences level I
-History level I

Completion results in a government-issued Stage I Education license, qualifying its holder for low-level service and labor jobs. Many institutions offer this level of education free of charge, generating revenue from the later stages.

Stage II: Advanced Competency
-Kanotran II
-Nat-Sci II
-History II

Completion results in a Stage II Education license, improving the qualifications of its holder. A Stage II license is recommended to move on to Stage III and required by some Stage III educators.

Stage III: Basic Operations Skills (corresponds to secondary education in most nations)
-Kanotran III
-Secondary language I
-Algebra/Geometry
-Physical fitness
-Nat-Sci III
-History III

Completion results in a Stage III Education license, qualifying its holder for standard-level industrial and professional work.

Stage IV: Advanced Operations Skills
-Technical Writing
-Secondary language II
-Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry
-Civics
-Biology, Chemistry, or Physics

Completion results in a Stage IV Education license, improving the qualifications of its holder. A Stage IV license is required to move on to Stage V.

Stage V: Applied Knowledge (corresponds with tertiary education in most nations)
At this stage students specialize their education in one field or another. Common core requirements include calculus, secondary language III, economics, business, law, political sciences, and social sciences. Completion results in a Stage V education license, qualifying its holder for advanced-level positions.

Specialization
Those who are educated at the highest level of their field are considered specialists, and upon completion of this stage are issued a Specialist license. So expensive is this education and so rare those motivated to pursue it that they often become leaders in their industry, as well as entering the upper echelons of government.

In ML, the following apply from Years 1 to 9 (i.e. from ages 4/6 to 13/14):

-> English
-> Maths
-> Science
-> Information Technology
-> Physical Education
-> Religious Education
-> Personal, Social and Health Education

At Year 7 level (ages 11/12), three more subjects are added:
-> Another language (French or Spanish - the student is free to choose)
-> Games (there's a difference between this and PE)
-> Business Studies

After Year 9, a lot of subjects are dropped from being mandatory. The ones that remain are:

-> English (in the schools that put students into groups based on their ability, the top two levels also offer English Literature at this stage: to avoid confusion, "English" becomes "English Language")
-> Maths
-> Science
-> Information Technology
-> Religious Education
-> Personal, Social and Health Education
-> Another language (French or Spanish - the student is free to choose)
-> Games

Between Years 12 (ages 16/17) and 13 (ages 17/18), there are no mandatory subjects.

Note that, at all levels, students can be pulled out of Religious Education if their parents so desire.
Please note that Mid Lothian is based on fantasy. Any references to anything/one/where that exists is completely coincidential.
Frequently used abbreviations: HoS = Head of State; HoG = Head of Government; ML = Mid Lothian; KSS - Kate Stephens-Smith.
Fancy an embassy in ML? Click me for details. (PS - I'll return the favour.)
I am usually rewriting stuff about Mid Lothian - just because it's true today isn't necessarily true tomorrow.

Warning - Full-time Grammar Nazi at work. You have been warned. (I guess that's due to my mum being an English teacher. Also, don't use masculine words to describe me - my name is Rebecca, which is clearly a feminine name.)

PK-5:
English, Literature, History and Math are required.
Teachers may add any others they want, like science, physical education,
health and well-skills, etc.

6-12:
English, Literature, History, Math, Physical Education,
Health & Well-skills, and (usually) four other periods that
can be used for an elective, like choir, band, art, and Industrial
Technology (a.k.a. Woodshop).

Please note that what is listed above isn't chosen by the government, but
is what we usually find when we visit our schools.

Many subjects are taught in schools, and many schools specialize in different fields of learning from an early age, as all of our schools are private. Commonly taught subjects include languages, mathematics, history, economics, science and engineering, urban and wilderness survival, basic rifle marksmanship, landmine disarmament, and accuracy with a machete.
