There are only 3 ways a Miraclian Antillean monarch can lose power:
  • (s)he dies, whether of old age, or by violent means,
  • (s)he abdicates, voluntary or non-voluntary,
  • (s)he is declared unfit to rule, either by senility, or insanity.

The current monarch, King Jay, is young, healthy, smart, and good looking, and none of the above events are likely to happen soon.

Since the return of democracy in 1960 presidents can lose power in four ways: loss of an election, resignation, impeachment & conviction, or at the end of their term. Since the introduction of a semi-presidential system in 1970 prime ministers can lose power in three ways: through a successful vote of no confidence in the lower house, dismissal by the president, or resignation.

How does your leader lose power?

If the High-King dies, abdicates, or become ineligible, then his successor attains the throne in accordance with the Salic law.

According to Article 6 of the Korwinian Constitution of 2771, the office of Consul, the chief executive office in the Anthrostate--both head of state and government--will be required to relinquish power if they lose an election, or if they have ran for a total of six years in elections (the Consul is elected every year for a one-year term, renewable up to six times). A successful Vote of No Confidence is also a means for ejection (as required by Article 8 of the Constitution).

Of course, if the Consul resigns, or dies in office, that is another means of losing power.

Unless a major revolution, dietary action or coup happens, the Emperor can only lose power via being dead or retiring. The Chancellor, on the other hand, can be impeached or voted out of power.

EDIT: Chancellor, not Prime Minister

Anyone who ascends to be the Monarch of the Hispanic Monarchy stays until his/her death. But there are other possible ways that the Monarch can get deposed eventually:

  • Excommunication by the Catholic Church
  • Losing a duel against a family member (Which usually means death)
  • Appointed as successor by the previous Monarch but failing to meet the requirements
  • Impeachment, usually approved unanimously by the Congress and backed by popular vote. (Which means that, if at least one congress member opposes the Impeachment, the impeachment does not go through. Popular vote needs to be at least 65%).

The King either dies in office or abdicates, he cannot be sacked.

The Prime Minister can resign from office, this typically occurs when he/she loses the General Election, or if a motion of no confidence passes.

The Prime Minister can also be sacked by the King, this happens when the PM has been found to have abused his power for personal gain, acted against the interests of the nation, or treason against the King.

The only way there would be even a chance of Afonso Salazar abdicating is if the Pope excommunicates him. This would never happen, considering everything Salazar has done to cozy his nation to the Church.

President Jxsn will step down once another election is completed, or if he goes missing, but in that case the VP will step up.
Unlike many nations, elections are not held at fixed dates. During a certain time each year, there is a direct vote by the population on if the current leaders are doing a good job.

If a 2 thirds majority say yes, then 6 months later there will be another vote on if there should be an election for a leader, and if that is a yes, the next 6 months later (or increments of half years until they have served for 3 years) then there will be another election for a new leader.

The current leader can still participate (and win) in the election, but not the 2nd or more attempted election. Similar rules for VPs.

The reigning Emperor must abdicate from office, be forced from power by the Imperial Senate, or of course, die, for power to be transferred.

The head of state can only lose power in two ways. Either:
Death: The previous head of state, before Holy Emperor Nino II the Good, lost their position through death.
or
Resignation: Although still an option, resignation has only been used once in the history of Valentian Elysium.

But since the Holy Emperor is more of a figurehead, the Prime Minister is usually seen as the head. The Prime Minister can lose power in numerous ways:
Death: Self-explanatory
Losing a Vote of No Confidence: If the Prime Minister's government has no confidence from Parliament, then there is a 10 day period when an MP (usually the chairman of a party) can try to build a government, and try to win a Vote of Confidence. If no one can win a Vote of Confidence in the 10 day period, Parliament is dissolved, and a Parliamentary election is held as soon as possible.
Losing an election: In the result of an election, the chairman of the party with the most votes is chosen by the Holy Emperor (De facto) to create a government, and pass a Vote of Confidence.
Resignation: As with the Holy Emperor, the Prime Minister may hand in their resignation to the head of state, essentially creating a situation where they lost a Vote of No Confidence. The resignating Prime Minister usually does not run as the chairman of the party afterwards.

The Doge of Montevento can lose power due to several reasons:

  • Death: If the Doge dies in office, the First Councillor of the National Council will take his/her place and call for new elections.
  • Impeachment: The Doge can get impeached by the National Council by a qualified majority (3/4 of the Council must vote in favor, meaning that 188 councillors out of 250 must agree)
  • Losing a re-election: The Doge is only elected for 4 year terms, so if his time is up and fails to win the national elections, he/she will be forced out of office.
  • Winning 3 consecutive elections: The maximum time a person can continuously be the Doge of Montevento is 12 years, so if a Doge wins three consecutive elections, he/she will be forced to leave office for at least one term before being able to be elected Doge again.
  • Resignation: A Doge can resign from his/her office at any time and for any given reason.

The Demarch legally serves for a period of one year before stepping down and allowing another Demarch to be appointed. If they should die in office then another will be selected to take their place. They are also forced to step down and be replaced if they are found to have violated the law or constitution. These rules apply to all members of the Grand Assembly.
