Written scripts in your nation

Postby Sino-Mehxicolan » Tue Oct 15, 2019 9:19 pm

1. What scripts are/were [mainly] used in your nation? Any standardized script[s]?
2. Which languages do they record?
3. How widely used are they; Where and how are they used?

1. For Sino-Mehxicolan, the main scripts in use are Sinoglyphs (Chinese Characters) along with native scripts, particularly Mexica (Aztec) and Maya scripts that have continued developing over time. Chinese characters and Chinese influenced script styles are somewhat standard, with many of the indigenous writings combining elements and influences.
2. These scripts record primarily dialects of Chinese and indigenous languages such as Maya, Mixtec, and Nahuatl.
3. These Chinese script is used throughout the country across occupations and groups. It is geographically spread throughout the country. The script is used by merchants, businesses, and leaders alike.

In Lillorainen, the official language is German, which is written with the Latin alphabet ("No!" - "Yes!" - "Ohh!"). Most co-official and recognized minority languages use the Latin alphabet as well, with Serbian/Serbo-Croatian being an exception (it uses both Latin and Cyrillic writing).
In case of German, this includes all 26 letters plus 'Ä', 'Ö', and 'Ü' (technically, there would also be the 'ß', but that one is not used in Lillorainen).
However, Lillorainen has also a long history of using Runic letters, and thanks to Norse Paganism being the dominant religion, Younger Futhark still does play a role in some contexts; it is also taught in schools.
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

The official language of TurtleShroom is English. That means it uses the Latin alphabet. TurtleShroom's alphabet has twenty-seven letters.

TS' alphabet is unique in that, in addition to the twenty-six letters, it includes the ampersand (&) as a twenty-seventh letter. This unusual relic means that "&c." is fully acceptable alongside "etc.".

In addition, though not actually part of the alphabet, the symbols (C), (R), and (TM) are taught at the same age and in the same way.

The most common scripts one will encounter in Gandoor are the Latin script, kanji, kana, hangul, and the Cyrillic script.

The Latin script is used for the English language (which is one of our official languages, along with Japanese and Russian), along with the languages of the indigenous peoples of Gandoor (most of which use modified Latin scripts to accommodate the requirements of their languages). Latin script also has limited usage in Japanese.

Kanji and kana are used for the Japanese language.

Hangul is used the Korean language. Hanja are not used for the Korean language in our nation.

The Cyrillic script (specifically the Russian alphabet) is used for Russian. However, while the Russian alphabet is what is taught in schools and the sole legal recognized writing system for Russian under Gandoorese law, it is not uncommon for it to be written entirely in the Latin alphabet in our nation, especially when it comes to internet communication, as practically all keyboards sold in the Democratic Republic use the standard Latin-alphabet QWERTY layout and not a Cyrillic layout.

The Latin script and the Japanese scripts are the ones you are most likely to encounter in the Democratic Republic, as English and Japanese are understood by 79 and 73 percent of the population respectively. Russian, on the other hand, is only understood by 29% of the population and 60% of all Russian-speakers live in Freena Yon, which is where you're most likely to see the Cyrillic script. (Of course, see above for the uniqueness about Russian in our nation).

As Korean is understood by 19% of the population, hangul is most commonly encountered in areas with a high Korean population.

1. What scripts are/were [mainly] used in your nation? Any standardized script[s]?
The Latin script is used for all of the official languages (English, Turkish, and Anollasian). Turkish used to be written in the Arabic script until the 1870s. The Greek script was used in antiquity.
2. Which languages do they record?
English, Turkish, and Anollasian; several recognized languages
3. How widely used are they; Where and how are they used?
The Latin script is the norm, as all of the official languages use that script. Arabic script is limited to calligraphy, historical documents, minorities who can read/write in Arabic script, and language courses for languages which use the Arabic script. Greek script is limited to remnants of the ancient Lyrian civilization, minorities who can read/write in Greek, Greek language courses, and scientific/mathematical symbols (eg. pi).

1. What scripts are/were [mainly] used in your nation? Any standardized script[s]?

Arevastan has three official languages: Armenian, Georgian, and Azerbaijani. Armenian uses the Armenian alphabet, also known as Հայոց գրեր (Hayots' grer, lit. "Armenian writing") or Հայոց այբուբեն (Hayots' aybuben, lit. "Armenian alphabet"). Georgian uses the Mkhedruli script. Azerbaijani uses the Latin script.

2. Which languages do they record?

The Armenian alphabet is used solely for Armenian. The Georgian Mkhedruli is used for Georgian and the various minority languages spoken in the Vrastani province. The Azerbaijani Latin alphabet is used for, well, Azerbaijani.

3. How widely used are they; Where and how are they used?

The Armenian and Georgian alphabets are limited to Arevastan. The Latin script, however, is used worldwide.

Islaevian is the only official language, and it is written in both the Cyrillic and Latin scripts. Both have a formally equal status, though the ruling establishment has a strong preference towards Cyrillic.

Compared to the Russian Cyrillic alphabet, the Islaevian alphabet adds the letter ӕ for the [ae̯] diphthong, as in Ислӕвия (Islaevian Latin: Islævia, English: Islaevia), but lacks х, щ, ъ and ы.

Traditionally, Islaevian was written in the Latin script. However, the modern Islaevian Latin script is derived from the Cyrillic one through a special romanization process. This alphabet includes the added characters æ and ț (for [ae̯] and [t͡s] respectively) but lacks c, q, w and y.

1. What scripts are/were [mainly] used in your nation? Since the Binary Language can be written with ANY two characters, one that stands for "1" and the other to stand for "0," there are almost infinite variations rather than one specific script. You could actually use the Chinese kanji for "1" and "0" and it'd be just as readable to us as the font that we use for formal printing.
Any standardized script[s]? The only standardization is that one character must always stand for "1," and the other character for "0." However, formal communications always use a particular font. This font uses an l-like shape for "1," and a concave, below-line curve for "0." It's very easy to write this in cursive, unlike with Latin characters.
2. Which languages do they record? Binary.
3. How widely used are they? Ubiquitous.

Where and how are they used? Everywhere we wish to communicate in print. In advertising, however, it is common to skip the font known as Standard, and print the message using things like the images of two of the products the company makes, icons related to a relevant theme, or some other such variation. This is to make the message more memorable. Standard is seen as too boring for most retail advertising since almost everything else is written in it.

1. What scripts are/were [mainly] used in your nation? Any standardized script[s]?
The two scripts mainly used in Prakrit are Devanagari and Urdu, a highly modified version of Arabic. A highly cursive form of Devanagari is also used. Other writing scripts, including the Latin alphabet, died out. In mathematics, Devanagari numerals are used.

2. Which languages do they record?
Devanagari and Urdu are primarily used to record Prakrit and other endangered Indic languages such as Tamil. Devanagari can also be adapted for most other non-Indic languages with varying levels of efficiency.

3. How widely used are they; Where and how are they used?
In the formal registers of Prakrit as well as in children's writing, Devanagari is used. However, Urdu is used for everyday writing, such as in note-taking and personal notes. In political settings, both scripts are used altogether. In graphic design, Urdu is typically associated with beauty, femininity and sophistication; whereas Devanagari is associated with masculinity, practicality and power.

1. What scripts are/were [mainly] used in your nation? Any standardized script[s]?
Traditional, Modern Standard, and Taxonian script are all used in Corominan territories regularly.

2. Which languages do they record?
In the modern day the scripts only record Uxonian, being the last spoke language of its family, though in past times it recorded Oroxonian, Maraxdonain, Texese, and Roving Uxonian-all of which no longer have native speakers, though some students of history may become fluent in one.

3. How widely used are they; Where and how are they used?
Traditional script is used socially across the holdings of Coromina Industries though the Modern Standard is used officially, in legal documents and primarily in foreign affairs-hence it being known as a Lingua Legatori-a Language of or for diplomacy but rarely used elsewhere.
Taxonian Script is used mostly in Unoba and other major industrial centers, due to Alphos Foundries in particular using the script in accordance with family tradition.

The Latin alphabet is the standard alphabet of Monsone since 1828. The additional letters are š (sh), č (ch), and ž (zh). Additionally, jh makes a sound like x in Russian or ch in Hebrew. The j is used a a i or y interchangeably.

2. Which languages do they record?

Monsonian and English.

3. How widely used are they; Where and how are they used?

Well, both are national languages, but English is mainly used in business and day to day conversations while Monsonian is the language laws are written in, and of course, the whole government uses Monsonian. Both languages are taught in schools and everyone in Monsone is fluent and can read and write in both. Yet the strangest aspect is that most people mix both languages into a sort of creole.

We use languages from all over NS, but we do have a planetary script and language that make it easier for businessmen from all over NS to communicate to each other. The script is as easy to learn as hangul, as it is a similar system. Letters are syllables (one consonant and one vowel) and they're grouped together in a linear text. I've actually been working on this in a little notebook. I'll probably put it out when I get the chance.

Saquiane is the primary script of Saciu, and it uses the Latin Script. Most of the other languages in Saciu use the Latin script, although Japanese is fairly common in some cities; Hebrew is also widely used in the Retrica area of Nor de Sevona. The only place in Saciu where Saquiane is not the primarily spoken language is eastern Lautee, where Lauteyenne is commonly spoken. This uses a unique script, its modern form utilising 20 consonant phonemes and 5 vowel phonemes. Interestingly, the script utilises colours, with vowels mostly being represented by the preceding letter's colour. For example, "Lautee" would be written as:
