Shortform name: Jasirtaustan (藏嶽 "[the] land concealed by mountains"; 藏嶽 Dzangalin in Manchu)
Real life culture influence: Kazakhstan and other Turkic cultures
Real life culture of former colonizer: Manchu (Nukigurun)
Population: 23,480,155
GDP (PPP) per capita: $13,880
GDP (nominal) per capita: 10,005
Military manpower (active/reserve): active: 150,00; reserve: 80,000
Language(s): Kazakh, Halh Mongolian, Southern Altay, Kyrgyz, Manchu
Nation description: Jasirtaustan (藏嶽 “[the] land concealed by mountains”) is a country in Central Yoju. Historically, it was a center for nomadic groups which all co-existed peacefully. The lack of any centralized state, paired with the constant migration of the tribes in the area, made the Heeradic Empire’s annexation and subjugation of Jasirtaustan effortless. The country got its name during the mid-16th century from the Ulitau province (lit “great mountain province”) of the Middle Horde (中國; ort orda), a remaining fragment of the Heeradic Empire in Central Yoju. The Middle Horde held a monopoly over trade between Central Yoju and Sinju. It had trade routes that stretched as far south as Aryadesh and Gyaser and as far east as Mincang, though Jarisintawan imports were not popular in Sinju. The expansion of Imperial Nukigurun in the late 17th century sparked border skirmishes between the Middle Horde and Nukigurun, which continued for nearly a decade. Nuki mercenaries hijacked Jarisintawan trade routes, which severely crippled its economy over decades. Too weak to sustain itself, and Nukigurun seeing an opportunity for expanding its influence, Jarisintaw joined Nukigurun as a vassal state.

In 1947, Jasirtaustan gained independence from Nukigurun. Initially, the country was economically and politically unstable. From 1947 to 1960, the first republic was governed by an authoritarian presidential republic, which was succeeded by a military junta from 1960 to 1966, then by the second republic (1966–1981) which was a military dictatorship. Following a democratization movement in the late 1970s, the final third republic (1981–present) was established.

Yelamu wrote:Reapping Dembiya with redrawn plot and boosted population to go with it

Real life culture influence: Ethiopia
Real life culture of former colonizer: Wu Chinese (Hokan)
Population: 73,525,563
GDP (PPP) per capita: $11,788
GDP (nominal) per capita: $6,562
Military manpower (active/reserve): 350,000/350,000
Language(s): Amharic, other Ethiopic languages
Nation description: Dembiya has been inhabited for tens of thousands of years, being one of the main pathways anatomically modern humans used to spread from Miju to the rest of the world. Several prosperous trading kingdoms rose and fell along the coasts through the second and first millennia BCE, trading with and being influenced by the civilizations of Mennefer and Seogwan to their north, including Pwenet and Daamot.

Around 1000 BCE, early Jaatunist refugees from Mennefer fled to the south as the result of religious persecution, claiming to carry with them the true Maithunic prophetic lineage as well as a Menneferian royal lineage (claims central to Dembiyan nationhood to this day), and settled in the Dembiyan central highlands, where they intermingled with the local people, particularly those in the then-small kingdom of Azeba. Between 1000 BCE and 500 BCE, the Menneferians' proto-Jaatunist beliefs combined with local beliefs in the creator deity Waaq and evolved from henotheistic to fully monotheistic, giving rise to the new religion of Sabbatarianism. This process culminated with the compilation of the Orit, the central Sabbatarian holy text. During the same period, Azeba gradually united the highlands and then subjugated and conquered the coastal states, with the conquests having aspects of a religious mission, a process chronicled in the Sabbatarian scripture of the Mashafa Nagast.

By the start of the common era Azeba had grown into an empire and was enjoying a golden age. As one of the first major Sabbatarian empires, it played a key role in the religion’s further spread from Napsal to Miju and other regions through its extensive maritime trade, and Azebic is still in widespread use in much of the Sabbatarian world as a liturgical language to this day. By the fourth century Azeba had begun to decline, weakened from within by religious conflicts between Sabbatarian sects with the rise of the new Black Cap sect.

Around 500 CE, Dembiya was conquered by Mennefer and remained under Menneferian rule for the next couple centuries, a traumatic period during which Sabbatarianism was persecuted by the ruling Jaatunists and the Temple of Zeray, the holiest site in Sabbatarianism, was destroyed.

By the 700s the Menneferian Empire itself began to decline and Dembiya was able to rebel and break free, establishing the Dembiyan Empire under a new dynasty claiming descent from Qwara and by extension from ancient Shomera (though it was only an empire in name and would never again reach the heights of Azeba). The new empire would also firmly establish Blue Cap as the dominant Sabbatarian sect in Dembiya.

In the 18th century, as Sinjuan colonialism spread to Napsal, Dembiya became coveted by the colonial powers for its strategic position. After some jockeying for power, by the end of the century it had become a Hokanese protectorate; the emperor would continue to rule but it was a Hokanese colony in all but name. It regained its independence after the Hokanese revolution, and the monarchy fended off an attempt to impose a socialist government and resumed power.

During Eulhae, Dembiya’s strategic position relative to Mennefer and Nukigurun again became coveted by the Sinjuan powers. Dembiya attempted to remain neutral, but was occupied by the Allies and compelled to join their war effort. After the war, the victorious powers continued to interfere in Dembiyan politics, fueling popular resentment towards the monarchy as a Sinjuan puppet. While significantly beneficial to the economy, the monarchy’s ambitious modernization and secularization projects and resulting upheaval added further controversy.

In the 1970s, the empire was overthrown by a popular revolution that ended with the installation of an anti-Sinjuan Abrahamic theocratic republic. It survived an initial war attempting to depose it and continues to be a controversial state accused of supporting Abrahamic extremism throughout Yoju and Miju.

Shortform name: Kinoya
Real life culture influence: Hokkaido / Sapporo / Ainu
Real life culture of former colonizer: Not Applicable
Population: 31,245,377
GDP (PPP) per capita: $48,221.25
GDP (nominal) per capita: $40,117.66
Military manpower (active/reserve): 300,000 / 450,000
Language(s): Kinoyese (Japanese), Jumin (Ainu indigenous language)
Nation description: Kinoya [木の家], or "Home of the Trees", is a socially progressive and technologically advanced technocratic nation located in Tiandi. Originally a monastic dynasty from the 3rd century BCE, the country experienced a political revolution in the 1800s CE that led to the creation of the "enlightened state", a technocratic noocracy deigned to replace the monarchy and bring the benefits of a laissez-faire economic revival to the country. The establishment of the post-Revolution country was frought with challenges, and the Kinoyese Civil War (1835 - 1847) was a bloody affair seing both monarchists and technocrats using increasingly brutal tactics to win. With the prevailing of the technocrats at the Battle of the Laurel on April 19th, 1847, the technocracy was established and a period of de-imperialization began to occur. Progress was slow for the first several decades under the new system of magistrates, but an economic boom in the 1880s led to the "Kimochi Jidai" period [いい気持ちの時代], an era of social harmony and progressive political evolution that saw the free market economy soar and technological innovations abound. Though fortunes would wax and wane throughout the 20th century economically, the country became politically stable and harmonious, with a low crime rate and effective social welfare policies. Rising income inequality remains a challenge for the country however, as the free market economy continues to grow leaving the country's poorest citizens behind.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Kaisa
Real life culture influence: Ainu
Real life culture of former colonizer: Not Applicable
Population: 19,201,377,
GDP (PPP) per capita: $40,221.25
GDP (nominal) per capita: $33,117.66
Military manpower (active/reserve): 150,000 standing military / 250,000 reservists
Language(s): Kaisanese (Ainu indigenous language)

Nation description:
Kaisa is a socially conservative and technologically advanced nation located near Fusen, Taniilux and Wamu. The population of 25.4 million live under the governance of a federal republic headed by a president and a parliamentary chancellor, having adopted a federal system of governance in 1735 after the bloodless Pearl Revolution (真珠革命). Prior to that, the country was ruled by a chiefdom whose leader, the Sapanekuru held sway over independent tribes. These tribes would later go on to form the basis of the federal republic's prefectures. Archaeological evidence points to human activity in the region as early as the late neolithic period, though a majority of artifacts recovered date back to the mid-bronze age. The first Kaisanese tribes are mentioned in the archaeological record around the turn of the fifth century BCE, where the Sapanekuru Nusaki began consolidating his power over the various peoples of the territory now known as Kaisa. The first mention of Kaisa direct comes from a 3rd century BCE poem called Epuike ("Blossom"), calling Kaisa "the land beneath heaven" for its stunning mountains and boreal forests. These biomes would become the home for the Kaisanese people. The federal republic is divided into seventeen prefectures, each governed by a parliamentary body and adhering to the national constitution, the Kambioshi. The country is known for being socially and culturally conservative, with the traditional religion Aeishokori playing an outsized role in the national philosophy and culture of the country. The nation is scientifically advanced, with a services-based economy and light consumer industry dominating the economy; finance, technology and tourism to the northern nation brings in substantial revenue to the federal budget each year.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Wokajoor (applying for Wokajoor as puppet rather than NPC)
Real life culture influence: Broadly Sahelian/West African, with the Wolof and Serer as dominant ethnic groups
Real life culture of former colonizer: Cantonese (Meisaan)
Population: 401,450,969
GDP (PPP) per capita: 8,001
GDP (nominal) per capita: 1,943
Military manpower (active/reserve): 900,000 active / 750,000 reserve
Language(s): Wolof and Serer (official), Mandé languages, Fulani (recognized), Central Sudanic, Chadics (minus Hausa), Akan (split with Ile Orim), Dogon
Nation description:

Wokajoor's Niger River Basin equivalent is considered one of the world's major civilization centers. From the Iron Age onward, several empires arise in western Wokajoor. In the north, Fulani raiders establish major sea-faring empires, and probably convert to some form of Sabbatarianism (perhaps Blue Cap?). By the 16th century, the Wolofs have conquered much of the territory comprising modern Wokajoor.

The Wolof Empire is able to hold itself on equal footing with the early maritime Sinjuan powers. However, beginning in the late 17th centuries, internal tensions within the confederation make Wokajoor much more vulnerable to Sinjuan imperialists, with Meisaan emerging as the primary beneficiary. All of Meisaani Wokajoor, previously managed by kongsis, is brought under the direct control of Meisaan by the mid-19th century. Meisaani Wokajoor becomes an important source of cheap cotton and other cash crops (such as coffee and bananas) for Meisaan, as well as a major export market for Meisaani finished industrial products.

The Eulhae War dramatically weakens Meisaani legitimacy in Wokajoor and strengthens a nationalist movement primarily led by Wolof and Serer elites. The country gains independence peacefully, at the same time as the southern regions of Meisaan's north Miju colony (Khuizaang and Ile Orim) break away much more violently.

Shortform name: Kulubemba 本琶
Real life culture influence: Bemba, other Bantu peoples
Real life culture of former colonizer: Jeongmi (Korean)
Population: 43,233,796
GDP (PPP) per capita: $3,453
GDP (nominal) per capita: $830
Military manpower (active/reserve): 35,000 / 3,000
Language(s): Bemba, other Bantu languages, colonial power language
Nation description:
Historically, Kulubemba traces its modern origins to the emergence of the Kulubemban Empire which coalesced around the military leadership of Mwene Mapalo I of Shaku Cabu in 1150. This short-lived empire expanded rapidly, utilizing load-bearing mammals and cavalry to expand the influence of its economic and cultural core Shaku Cabu. Being located at the confluence of several large, continental rivers enabled the Kulubemban Empire to establish relations with Matobo and other eastern kingdoms. The death of Mwene Mapalo effectively ended the Kulubemban Empire, as its territory fractured under the weight of various claimants seeking to wrestle control of the title of Mwene of Kulubemba.

What emerged from this was a series of competing kingdoms, heavily influenced by the organizational structure and social institutions which were established under Mapalo I's reign as Mwene Kulubemba. Shaku Cabu remained an influential political and cultural center in the region, with its rulers utilizing the title of Mwene and receiving tribute from neighboring kingdoms through the institution of the Mbudye. The Mwene Shaku Cabu competed with the expanding Dembiyan Empire to the west. The Mbudye saw the rise of Sabbatarianism as a threat to indigenous institutions of political and religious power and initially fought against its expansion into the sphere of the Mwene Shaku Cabu. Syncretism between Sabbatrian beliefs and native beliefs eventually led to the codification of the indigenous Cishinka (from, Bemba for 'to be faithful, to have faith) religion. Border kingdoms in the north and western portions of Kulubemba simultaneously existed within the Dembiyan and Kulubemban cultural spheres.

Jeongmian explorers established early relations with the Mwene Shaku Cabu in the mid 1600s. Sinjuan explorers established trading posts, but primarily dealt with Kulubemban politics through local proxies. Despite the presence of strong social and political institutions, the region lacked a powerful centralized government for a significant period of time. The Mwene Shaku Cabu held a position of extreme political and social importance, however, this did not prevent the constituent kingdoms that paid tribute to him from fighting one another. In the 1830s; Jeongmian colonial policy shifted course in Kulubemba as a more direct interest in the colony emerged. Jeongmian intellectuals were interested in a 'Sinjufication' [better term needed] mission, believing the system of nobility and the Mbudye to be a strong foundation for the establishment of a Sinju-centric civil service. Landowners and industrialists in Jeongmi sought to gain control of the areas precious natural resources. Colonial governors oversaw the colony directly, gradually wearing away at the power of the nobility and the Mwene Shaku Cabu.

The Kulubemban Wars in 1853 sought to put down armed uprisings led by the nobility over the extension of Sinjuan influence. These wars eventually resulted in the abdication of the last Mwene Shaku Cabu Kayokwa and the establishment of the Jeongmian Protectorate of Shaku Cabu. The protectorate gained independence in 1956 forming the Kulubemban Democratic Republic. The Election of 1964 was contentious, with a close victory for the socialist candidate Wankumbu Ngosa predicted. His opposition alleged electoral fraud and garnered the support of both the military and Sinjuan intelligence agencies to lead a coup and establish a military dictatorship until 1975. In 1975 the Baekhab/Lily Revolution saw the overthrow of the military government and the restoration of civil governance. Since 1975, the National Unity Party has remained dominant in parliamentary politics. The NUP is known for forwarding a nationalistic, pan-Mijuan political platform.

Today Kulubemba is considered to be a neutral country in world affairs; with foreign policy objectives that focus on Mijuan cooperation and economic independence for the third world. It enjoys good relations with its western neighbor Keikyo, both states having strong religious elements within their political institutions. The Democratic Republic is firmly within Matobo's sphere of influence. Tourists from Napsal, Tagol, and Miju flock to Lengama Beach in the fall to enjoy beautiful beaches and breathtaking shore-side sunsets. Ecotourism is a growing industry in the central region of the KDR, especially for tourists from Taniilux and Nukigurun.

Nation description: The Burgundian Union State is a large, multiethnic state in northeastern West Yoju, bordered by Ovlanda to the east, Barthia and Orsiston to the south, and TBA to the west. Officially a semi-presidential federal republic, Burgundie has been ruled as a dominant party state since 2006, with the electoral coalition Alliance for the Republic governing the country since the victory of the Burgundian National Front in 1995.

Recorded history in Burgundie dates back to the 8th century CE, where local Burgundian chieftains along the TIBENAMED coast managed to successfully broker a peace between them and the Lynnic-speaking Väinlased raiders, ending over a century of pillaging. In exchange for peace, chieftains allowed substiantial Väinlaseders to settle and intermarried among their noblemen, resulting a new, Lynnicized Germanic culture along the coast which slowly coalesced into the contemporary Wisegauthic and West Lynnian peoples that inhabit Burgundie today and compose around a third of the nation's population according to recent census data.

Through much of the Middle Precolonial Period, what was to become Burgundie was a keep battleground region between various indigenous West Yojuan empires and states from the 10th to 11th centuries. Much of the initial coastal kingdoms were absorbed into the Lags Confederation, whereas the southern portion of the country was often subject to frequent territorial conquests and conflict between the Great Lynia and the Orsistoni Empire. Following the Nuki's Westward Campaign and the Jeongmian Conquest of Orsiston and the Lag throughout the late 19th century, both the empire and the confederacy were partition between the empires. The Jeongmian territories of the Lag, notable for their greater degree of economic sophistication and indigenous industry, were incorporated into the economically failing predominately Zibithic and Barthian-speaking Northern Marshlands that were carved up from Orsisotn, establishing contemporary Burgundie.

Jeongmian colonial policy saw the expansion of mining and settler-owned plantations in the South as well as an influx of Sinjuan workers, mostly from low-income and working class backgrounds, into the country during the 19th and early 20th centuries, which largely displaced serfs from their land and forcing an influx of cheapened indigenous labour into coastal urban regions. Much of this period saw a rise in Pan-Yojuanism and a sort of Proto-Burgundian nationalism as various ethnic interest groups slowly coalesced into larger, pan-nationalist coalitions seeking independence. Arguably one of the most notable organisations was the Burgundian Workers and Farmers League, or BWFL, the country's leading big tent socialist organisation established in 188X which sought to unite urban industrial workers in the shipping, steel and textile industries with tenant farmers.

With the outbreak of the Great Eulhae War and the subsequent invasion of Jeongmian colonial territories on the peninsular by Nuki expeditionary forces, Burgundie quickly became a major battleground region within the West Yojuan theatre of the war. The rise of nationalist partisan guerrillas in Colonial Lynia and Yuguk severally impacted Nuki supply lines during the offensive into Jeongmian colonial territories, leading to their defeat. However, the success and increasing prominence of these revolutionary movements inspired similar attempts within Burgundie. On INSERTMONTH 1943, on the eve of the war's official end, many of the local militas propped up during the war were in revolt and eventually absorbed into the Burgundian National Liberation Army, and launched a large scale war to rid the territory of Jeongmian control. The nation successfully won independence on 195X after over a decade of conflict.

The Burgundian Republic was a federal state that was established on socialist principles, largely due to the influence of the Burgundian Communist Party and BWFL on the broader nationalist movement. Led by former revolutionary leader INSERTCELTICNAME, the nation instituted import-substitution policies and undertook ambitious infrastructural projects during the 1960s with generous developmental aid from major communist powers. Following the 197X INSERTCRISIS, demand for many West Yojuan commodities fell, resulting in a trade deficit and depleting foreign exchange revenues amid increasingly higher debts. The crisis saw INSERTCELTICNAME ousted in a Namjuan-backed coup by INSERTGERMANICNAME, who managed to secure concessionary financial aid from !IMF and instituted market-oriented reform which saw the privatization of many SOEs and austerity measures. Left-wing groups were banned and targeted, resulting in the BCP, BWFL and government loyalists being driven underground and commencing a Bush War against the new military regime.

The new military regime managed to successfully restore the nation's trade competitiveness through the the 1970s and early 1980s, however during the period the country saw increasing levels of wealth concentration, predominately benefiting in Burgundian Creole and Sinjuan populations as well as Wisegauds, resulting in discriminatory practices amongst the government which rationed off access to government contracts, education and high-wage employment to firms and individuals who were involved in these elite patronage networks. The systemic crises of the late '80s once again saw declining trade competitiveness and increasing debt levels, resulting in sections of the regime turning to increasingly inflammatory rhetoric and ethnonationalism as anti-establishment insurgents became increasingly more prominent, resulting greater high intensity conflict during the late chapters of the Burgundian Bush War and eventually the state of the civil war The civil war ended in 1995 with the pan-nationalist coalition victorious and the establishment of the current Union-State.

NATION APPLICATION

Shortform name: Ōnu
Real life culture influence: Japan? conlang
Real life culture of former colonizer: (if applicable)
Population: idk however much seems right
GDP (PPP) per capita: 30,003?
GDP (nominal) per capita: 18,233
Military manpower (active/reserve): based on pop
Language(s): Ōnu Fusenic / Ōnu Jeongmi / local Kasaic dialects (mostly rural)
Nation description:

The Ōnu Confederacy (Fusenese: 大沼, Jeongmian: 오누) is a federal republic situated in Bangju. ‘Ōnu’ is old-Fusenic for “great swamp,” referring to the fact that much of the region consists of wet-lands. Ōnu was first settled by Jomonic and Kasaic tribes before the arrival of Fusenic refugees from what is now modern-day Jeongmi during the displacement of proto-Fusenic peoples by Jeongmic peoples from modern-day southeastern Jeongmi. These settlers established small villages and relied on small boats - known as itaomacip - for fishing and commerce.

Imperial Cheonje briefly established a naval commandery in the area to help restrain petty piracy - one of Cheonje’s only direct Banjuan establishments - but otherwise left the region alone as there was little of economic value in the area. Cheonjic Admiral Chen Yixuan wrote in the 7th century:

“The land of ‘Ōnu’ is a vulgar backwater with nothing of repute. The soggy and murky mud flats are no good for farming and so the barbarous locals must make their living by hurling spears at pungent fish, and upon spearing one, yowl with irritable delight. Truly, I cannot see any merit to this land and its backwardness - and it is clear why the wretched people must resort to brigandry and piracy.”

As Imperial Cheonje declined, famine, civil war, and intense population pressures saw the arrival of eastern Jeongmic and Cheonjic refugees to the naval commandery, fleeing reprisals and violence as the northern Jeongmian kingdoms conquered and raided present-day southern Jeongmi and Meisaan. Many of these refugees were former bureaucrats and likewise established ‘proper’ trading settlements. Others, ex-Cheonjic military aristocrats or privateer warlords established their own polities by forcibly taking control of existing Kasaic settlements.

And as mainland Sinju recovered culturally, economically, and demographically from the collapse of Cheonje, Ōnu city-states’ maritime infrastructure, sizeable merchant fleets, and cosmopolitan societies made them ideal for facilitating renewed trade between Bangju and Fusen, and likewise between central Jungjuan Sinju and Bangju as a whole. Their cultural and economic ties to Sinju made them excellent facilitators for trade.

Ōnu’s newly lucrative position, however, attracted unwanted attention. ‘Dangu’ raiders from Taniilux began to extort the cities for ‘protection’ money and wives. Throughout the 10th century, Tanii-born warlords began to assert their hegemony over the Ōnuan city-states, forming semi-feudal Tanii-Ōnu dynasties ruled from Taniilux, with Tanii raiders intermarrying with local elites. Still, the children of these partnerships tended to consider themselves predominantly Ōnuan and began to resent Tanii influence in their cities.

In 997, the Ōnu League, consisting initially of the seven great cities of Ōnu, was formed by the wealthiest Ōnu merchant families and waged a war to throw off the Tanii overlords. Ōnuan militia consisting of militia crossbowmen were able to goad the Tanii army into attacking through a bog, where they were ‘bogged down,’ cut down by prepared positions of crossbowmen and slaughtered. The survivors were chased by the locals.

From the 11th and 14th centuries, the Ōnu League established a veritable trading league. Though each city maintained its own merchant fleets, strong collusion and eventually a joint naval command allowed Ōnu to exercise outsized influence in Bangju. Moreover, the need for marines resulted in Ōnuans picking up the crossbow with much vigor, innovating from the composite horn-bow (based on steppe recurve bows) to a steel bow. Their excellence and proficiency in both sailing and marksmanship made them highly desired mercenaries, and Ōnu mercenaries could be found in most major Sinjuan conflicts prior to the 13th century.

In the 16th-17th centuries or so, Tanii eventually established control over Ōnu, slowly encroaching on historic Ōnu’s independence and territory through careful diplomacy and degrading unity within the league by exploiting historical trade rivalries. By the turn of the 18th century, most of present-day Ōnu was Tanii territory, but continued to enjoy special status as a source of willing recruits. Ōnuans developed a reputation as uncompromising and brutal soldiers, and enforced Tanii rule with considerable enthusiasm and gusto. Moreover, Tanii culture slowly became ‘vogue’ within Ōnuan elite circles, with prestigious families now emphasizing their Tanii ancestry. Ōnu predominantly established a strong marine and naval tradition, and maintained a trading history. That is to say, Ōnu became a breeding ground for privateers and buccaneer musketmen, and warrior merchants, and Ōnuans developed an infamous reputation for cruel raids against Kasaic villages even during Tanii rule. It was not uncommon for trade companies to conduct trade missions part time throughout the year, and in off-time attacking border villages to please shareholders in Tanii and Jeongmi.

During the Bangju war, Ōnuans probably did a lot of not nice stuff, tarnishing Tanii’s good name. Same in Eulhae.

Silgudi Gan
Silgudi Gan was a Jeognmian-born warlord who led to the establishment of present-day ‘Bongsan,’ the preeminent and capital city of modern-day Ōnu.

Born in a fishing village on the eastern coast of southern Jeongmi during the reign of Empress Taejo, Silgudi was the bastard son of a minor aristocrat and a kisaeng consort. Despite being well educated in martial and literary arts, Silgudi was unable to inherit land due to his dubious legal status as a bastard; furthermore, being from a rustic and peripheral province of Jeongmi, Silgudi had few connections or prospects in the capital, Ingyeong.

At the age of 17, Silgudi enlisted into the Jeongmian army and participated in the Jeongmian invasion and pacification of Meisaan. Despite hoping for a prestigious posting, Silgudi served in a conscript unit though was promoted to the rank of captain due to his background. Despite his initial chagrin to this posting, Silgudi learned the value of massed pikes and crossbows, which would be instrumental in his later successes.

After much of the army was disbanded, Silgudi spent some time as a soldier settler in Meisaan, and married the daughter of a local Meisaani storekeeper. However, Silgudi was unsatisfied with this life and - selling his possessions, enlisted into a band of Jeongmian mercenaries that was preparing to fight on behalf of a Fusenese daimyo. After a brief term of service there, Silgudi then set his sights on Bangju, where Kasaic peoples were seeking help against Bangu raiders.

After helping a village repel several Bangu raids, Silgudi was incensed when he discovered that the villagers no longer had the means to pay him after the economic losses incurred by the raid. When the villagers refused to pay him and his band for his services, he took power by force and cut off the right hand of every adult male. Silgudi then continued his conquests, establishing a minor city-state and forming ties with existing Cheonjic trade cities. His band of soldiers, predominantly drawn from Jeongmi, Yedal, and Resan, proclaimed him a ‘Gan.’

Nation description: Transmare (Across the Sea) is a republic in the islands between Gramshi Bay and West Yoju. It was a collection of protectorates of Jeongmi which were all dominated by Sabbatarian rulers despite local faiths surviving to different extents. However, during Jeongmi rule a large number of people from the West Yoju colonies arrived to work in the farms and mines that were being built. Despite coming from all over West Yoju these settlers soon embraced either Christianity or Buddhism, the two main evangelical religions amongst the arrivals. Over time these two faiths largely syncretized into a form of Christianity localized to Transmare and including many Buddhist traditions. As religions combined languages did as well settling into a pidgin language from the arrivals known as Transmarian which was based on the Turian language, one of the closer languages to the islands and a large source of arrivals. In 1948 the local rulers were allowed to form a new Federal Monarchy which would be dominated by the local islanders. However, the proposal would not grant full political and economic rights to the 35% of the population who were arrivals. The arrival dominated Popular Independence Army led a revolt when Jeongmi left. The government was corrupt and internally divided between the population of various islands which allowed the PIA to take control in 1953. They then declared the Monarchy dissolved and declared the Republic of Transmare using the Jeongmi term Minguk in an attempt to bridge the gap between the islanders and arrivals. The new Minguk of Transmare's government was very left wing at first and tried to be neutral by keeping Jeongmian as the lingua franca and adding Transmarian Creole or Transmarian as it was now known to the list of official languages. However, in 1967 a military coup ousted the government and established a "democracy" that used gerrymandered districts and biased news coverage to keep the Transmare Independence Party or PdIT in power. The PdIT was much more right wing and it began to rely on the arrival population for support, for example the government is alleged to support the Transmarian Church, a serious violation of the secular clause of the constitution. The islander population has since then been divided between the Transmare People's Party or the GMD which wants to win elections and reform the government to be truely equal and which has a small arrival support base and the Indigenous Islander's Liberation Army or the SYY a terrorist group which seeks to expel the arrivals and restore the monarchy. The current government is very corrupt and is unpopular which gives the GMD a shot at winning an election. But it also gives the SYY ample recruiting opportunities. It remains to be seen if Transmare can return to the dream of 1953 or if inequality will persist.
