Nation description: The Wanxi Federation (Chinese: 萬夏聯邦; pinyin: Wànxià Liánbāng) is a federal republic situated in the heart of Sinju. Known for its spicy cuisine, hot-springs and humid climate, Wanxia is often colloquially dubbed the nation of the 'four hots - hot food, springs, climate, and people.

As a nation-state, Wànxià did not exist until the mid 19th century. Instead, the region was ruled by a motley assortment of foreign powers, warlord clans, and several 'Gōngsī' City-States (公司). The region's people, however, spoke a shared dialect and slowly began to refer to themselves as 'Fèngrén,' after the phoenix, which was rumored to abide in the Wanxi highlands. The region itself was dubbed "Wànxià," or, the Land of Ten-Thousand Summers - in reference to its perpetual humidity and hot-springs. The region was fairly rural and - at the time - seen as fairly backwards; therefore, other powers made concentrated efforts to suppress local customs and the locals were often economically disenfranchised.

The Kingdom of Hóngma (紅馬) was run by the Feng clan - who had formerly been Nuki mercenaries - and was slightly smaller than Gāoshù. Situated in the low-lying western plains region, Hóngma was Gāoshù's sworn rival. Run by the Feng Clan, Hóngma eventually fell prey to a mass quasi-religious peasant revolt - the Crimson Turbans - who sought to unify Wànxià under the banner of an indigenous monarchy (the Suns) and the Feng family was deposed - and eventually assassinated by nationalists.

The Kingdom of Gāoshù (高樹) was run by the Sun clan. Situated in the north along the border with (what was then) Meisaani Wànxià, Gāoshù was the kingdom that would eventually form the foundation of a united Wànxià under the Queen Dowager Yízhēn. Because of its geopolitical situation, Gāoshù was constantly at war with a multitude of rival powers - including the much larger Meisaan - leading to comprehensive military reforms in 1822 under King Sun Xin that would set the foundation for a united Wànxià to become Sinju's primary military force for the latter half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. These reforms standardized equipment, established a comprehensive logistics network, and led to merit-based ascension in the ranks.

The Kingdom of the Lichuān (莉川) was run by the Bao clan. Lichuān - though small - was better able to withstand against the waves of nationalist uprisings that had subsumed the rest of Wànxià under the Suns' sovereignty. This was due to its highly mountainous terrain and population of Huangzú - who did not identify as Fèngrén and were capable alpine soldiers. Eventually, Lichuān and Queen Dowager Yízhēn negotiated an annexation in which Lichuān maintained its independent status as a kingdom within the Wànxi Empire.

The Bīnwān Gōngsī (璸灣公司) was an independent mercantile city-state that - though by law a republic - effectively was ruled by the wealthy Yang family. The Bīnwān Gōngsī was permitted to remain its independence due to its economic importance.

One of the warlord clans - the 'Sun' family - rose to prominence with the death of its then-head, Sun Tong, and the ascent of his young wife, Queen Dowager, Yízhēn, as de-facto ruler. Yízhēn was able to forge an alliance with the concurrent Crimson Turban uprising in the domains of warlord Feng Wang Yong - led by a nationalist huntsman by the name of Liang Li Jun - and ultimately position her infant son, Sun Min, as the figure-head of a new nationalist cause. Eventually, Crimson Turbans - riled by mass disenfranchisement and long-repressed nationalist fervor, began to revolt en-masse and pledge loyalty to the infant Emperor. By the time Sun Min was old enough to ascend to the throne, Wànxià had become the most populous nation in Sinju through a combination of stoking revolution and direct military intervention.

In the 1920s, Wànxià saw the rise of a new ideology that positioned Wànxià itself as the center of a new Tianqi (i.e. all the Sinic states of Sinju reunited under one Emperor). Decades of success, rising nationalism, and increasing frustration at Jeongmi's meddling in colonial & continental affairs were compounded by a major depression that drove many Wànxi towards the far right. Wànxià, already a highly militarized society in its own right - now positioned itself to claim Sinju for itself. Highly skilled officers - having formed a quasi-military-aristocracy seized control of the government in 1927 and used their newfound power to build a highly modern, mechanized military that would topple Meisaan and cause untold damage throughout Sinju - particularly in Hokan and southern Jeongmi, where fighting was most intense.

Despite being a federal republic, Wanxia is known for its imperfect democracy. This is due - in no small part - to constant meddling by Hokanese and Jeongmi-Meisaani interests during the nation's tubulent post-Eulhae development. Constant efforts by other Sinju powers to influence the nation's internal politics resulted in considerable political instability, resulting in assassinations, a weak political culture, and even a short-lived military coup by a faction of Jeongmi-backed reactionary military officers.

Wokajoor is a diverse confederacy spanning a large Miju subcontinent, comprised of over 80 different ethnic groups and 176 spoken languages. Though immensely diverse, the majority of the population is comprised of the most urbanized groups, the [Wolof], [Serer] and [Akan]. The nature of the confederacy is unique, as it was formed in a period when all-out-war seemed inevitable.

In the mid-20th century, Wokajoor was fractured, the colonialist leaving hastily with superimposed borders. This lofty order quickly broke down, and so did Sinju influence. Ethnic tensions had reached a boiling point and in crisis, the political, revolutionary and populist leaders of Wokajoor united under a diplomatic union, a forum in order to break down Sinjuized borders, and manage rightful land distribution. This led to the creation of numerous nations, redefining post-colonial borders and preventing a subcontinental war. Pockets of conflict still broke out however and rebels rose across the country. Prominent leaders pushed for the pooling of resources, as individual states could not separately deal with rebels and other territorial violations.

Kwame Keite would be the most influential political figure of the time, he would entrench the first political mechanisms of the Union, then slowly introduce economic reform. In 1973 he created the Union currency as a leading Committee Chairman and President of [some pre-united country], opening Wokajoor up to the world and building infrastructure. In 1979, Kwame Keite would be assassinated, marking an end to the Transnational Union era, as the economic prosperity experienced into the 1980s would lead to a spike in inter-connectivity and accelerate a growing population. Modern industrialization spread quickly and national sovereignty, as well as Sinju-inspired local institutions, slowly began to erode, however were supplanted by growing foreign investment in local lands. By the mid-1990s, the bustling Union had begun the process of federalization, ending in 2001 when the Confederacy of Wokajoor was officially declared, and the constitution signed.

Since then, there has been sweeping reform by the first President, eroding former nationalist institutions and reinvigorating local traditional governments. Further banking and economic reform incurred more growth, emphasizing a capitalist economy and investment in cheap and efficient Wokajoori manufacturing.

The conditions of workers are often criticized, as little care for safety is given in Wokajoori industry, but is numerous and highly productive, in lieu of human/worker rights. These conditions existed since Kwame Keite's reforms, and are reaching their height now. Across the country is a wave of movements, civil disobedience and rising crime/rebel groups, aimed at a government riddled with corruption, overflowing slums and unparalleled environmental pollution. This industrious and tumultuous time in Wokajoor is quite interesting, as the country is also a rising power.

Before the union, Wokajoor had a deep and ancient history which defines it's countries and ethnic groups today, this is merely the last 100 years, the formation of united Wokajoor.

Nation description:The origin of Tafalong culture is still under debate, but the national founding story begins with a trade confederation between various seafaring peoples from the tropics. Pawig-Dao, the largest island and home of the capitol, although lush and beautiful, is rocky and mountainous. The early inhabitants took to the seas to find food, valuables, and luxury goods. Though few in number the prolific sailors speckled the coasts far and wide with trading posts. Early attempts at centralized government arose from pirates and other external threats. Over the years this trading league developed a proper infrastructure that was democratic in principle but effectively run by representatives of the Amis tribe. Resentment about the inequality between the 'inner and outer' cultures has resulted in several armed conflicts, but the region is relatively stable now. The Tafalong economy is based on trade, ship building, and limited mining efforts from occupied volcanic islands. Tafalong social culture is based on a complex hierarchy based on ones family, tribe, and region; different tribes being associated with different professions and levels of prestige.
