Election 2034 in the Andromeda Archipelago

Postby The Andromeda Archipelago » Tue Oct 01, 2019 4:26 pm

The Andromeda Archipelago is divided into 200 Assembly districts. After the election, the Assembly meets and chooses a President from among its members. If a Party has a majority in the Assembly, it is presumed that their leader will be the next President. Andromedan elections are held in the first week of November in even-numbered years.

President Joe Rutherford (Conservative) decided not to run for re-election.

The Conservatives repealed the Health Care Act enacted by the previous government. They also criminalized gay marriage and barred immigration from the Abu Continent. The Conservatives support freedom of religion for all of Andromeda. They also withdrew Andromeda from the World Assembly.

The Conservatives won 105 of 200 seats in the previous election

Lawrence’s wife is an English professor at the University of Andromeda.

The Social Democrats support full implementation of the Health Care Act enacted under the Clark/Lawrence Administration. They also wish to de-criminalized gay marriage and accept refugees from the Abu Continent and the Eastern Empire. They also wish to re-establish Andromeda’s membership in the World Assembly.

The Social Democrats won 88 of 200 seats in the previous election.

Todd House
Assembly Plaza
Andromeda City, Allied States
Tuesday, September 21, 2034
Noon

Unity Day commemorates the day in 2000 when representatives of the 13 sovereign states from throughout the Archipelago signed the Treaty of Portsmouth, thereby making 13 separate countries into The Allied States. Since then, the President of the Allied States gives an annual address to the Assembly and the country on September 21.

For only the second time, the Unity Day Speech will be given from Todd House instead of the Assembly Chamber. In 2030, then-President Anna Kaewkhonkaen was pregnant with her first child. In this case, the reasons are less logistical and more political.

President Rutherford’s Conservative Party no longer holds an absolute majority in the Assembly. While they have the most seats, they are just shy of the 101 seats needed for a majority due to defections in recent months. The Cabinet didn’t want to risk a vote of confidence in the Assembly so close to the election.

Thankfully, there is no more Assembly business between now and the election in November. After serving a full two-year term, President Rutherford will retire to his home state of St. Paul.

Here are a few excerpts from the President’s speech.

Image
President Joseph Franklin Smith Rutherford

“Good afternoon. We have witnessed an unprecedented two years here in the Allied States. Although our country is very different now, the State of our Union is strong.”

“We have spoken out to the International community against the corruption of World Assembly. We have also cut ties to the corrupt regimes of the Abu Continent.

“Meanwhile, the Allied States continues to encourage the relief organizations within our borders in assisting refugees from both the Eastern Empire and rogue Islamic elements on the continent. We have also worked to secure our homeland, especially around the Koni Channel. We cannot support the unlimited migration of people from the Continent or the Eastern Empire.”

“We have also sought clarity in our Justice System, affirming the principles embedded in English Common Law and affirming that our society’s foundations are set upon strong Judeo/Christian values. We also pledge to defend the right for all of our people to worship as they see fit.”

“Ours is now a country that values life from beginning to end. To prove that we are adamantly pro-life, we have adopted a young girl whose mother chose life despite the circumstances she found herself in. We are also pleased to announce that there will be an additional member of the Rutherford family joining us after the election.

“My government is also proud to announce that both public and parochial education, from Kindergarten to 12th Grade, will be available throughout the Allied States for all children who meet the standards. We have also allowed parents freedom of choice for their child’s education. We have cut through red tape and offer real choices for our children.”

“I thank you for the privilege of serving as your President. Thank you. God Bless you and may God Bless the Allied States of the Andromeda Archipelago.”

A SDP campaign event in the west

Buakonikai Christian Church
Buakonikai, Koni State
Friday, October 6, 2034
8:00 am

Two years ago, Jordan Reich was a campus pastor at Lion of Judah’s Joppa Campus. He was also a member of the Joppa State Council as well as a Conservative candidate for the Assembly of the Allied States from Joppa. Reich lost a close race to Social Democrat Bass Reeves, a leading prosecutor in Joppa State.

After he lost, he asked to be the campus pastor for Lion of Judah’s Koni Campus. Lion of Judah is one of the churches that has encouraged refugees to come to Koni from ISIS-controlled areas on the Abu Continent. Reich became active in helping refugees arrive in Koni during the week. Reich also left Lion of Judah after speaking out against the Prosperity Gospel preached by Lion of Judah’s Head Pastor, Assemblyman Carter Duckett of Beta City.

Now, Reich and a couple of other Christian Pastors in Koni are celebrating the opening of Buakonikai Christian Church, which will essentially be a home for Christian worship in the western reaches of Koni State.

Image
Rev. Jordan Reich is a Social Democratic candidate for the Assembly from Koni West, the westernmost district in the Allied States.

Reich is also the Social Democratic candidate for the Assembly of the Allied States from Koni’s western Assembly district, the westernmost district in the Allied States. At this opening, joining Rev. Reich are a number of politicians from Andromeda City ready to endorse Rev. Reich.

Also joining Reich are two Assembly members from Angeles City. One, Michaela Reese, also won a close race against a Conservative two years ago. The other, Jane Leiter, has often joined Reich in his efforts to bring refugees to Koni.

After one of the local choirs concludes their selection, Assembly members Reese and Reeves make a brief presentation. Reese goes first.

“First of all, we appreciate the warm welcome you have given us. On behalf of the Angeles City Ministerial Alliance, I hereby present to Pastor Reich a check for $20,000 so that Koni Christian can continue to bring Christians on the Abu Continent out of bondage to the Promised Land.”

The congregation cheers as Reese gives the check to Rev. Reich. Bass Reeves steps to the microphone.

“In just a minute, Assemblywoman Leiter will give a check to Rev. Reich’s campaign, but before she does, let me tell you who I am.”

Image
Assemblyman Bass Reeves of Joppa, who defeated Reich in 2032, joins Reich at his church this evening.

“My name is Bass Reeves. I’m the guy who defeated Rev. Reich when he ran for the Assembly in Joppa two years ago.”

“Now, I admit that there were times when I wondered what happened to Rev. Reich. I sometimes wonder if he should have won that race. Not often,…”

The congregation laughs.

“…but occasionally I wondered.”

“I saw something that I never thought I would see. I saw that Rev. Reich made the best out of the situation he was in.”

Some in the congregation stand up and cheer as Reeves speaks.

“From what I see, Rev. Reich coming out here was the best thing that could have happened… for him and for Koni.”

Reeves smiles. He has command over the audience.

“Jane, Assemblywoman Leiter, will present a check from the Party in a moment, but I want to personally present Rev. Reich with a $500 check for his Assembly campaign.”

As the congregation cheers, the former adversaries, Reich and Reeves, shake hands.

East Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce
East Portsmouth
Friday, October 13, 2034
7:00 pm

Separated from the Big Island by a canal is East Portsmouth State. The easternmost of the Allied States, East Portsmouth is among the first of the 18 Allied States to report their election results.

The Social Democrats have made significant progress here in recent months. Steven Hiller recently became the first Social Democrat to serve as Governor.

Conservative Vice-Presidential nominee Brian Hill is hosting a campaign event for two of his most vulnerable colleagues in the Assembly, Assemblyman Ronald Drum and Assemblywoman Lorna Campbell.

Here are some excerpts from that meeting:

“I’m not sure we should have held this meeting on Friday the 13th, but if that’s the only day Assemblyman Hill can come out and help us, we’re more than pleased to have him.”

Image
Ronald Drum, CEO of the Drum Corporation, manages the 3rd biggest hotel chain in the Allied States. He is also a recent convert to the Andromeda LDS Church.

Assemblyman Ronald Drum was selected by the Portsmouth Governor to replace outgoing Justice Minister Cecil Dobbs. Dobbs was appointed to the Andromedan High Court, leaving an Assembly vacancy.

“Everyone knows that it was our party who won the last election. We should have a truly Conservative Governor in 2034 and a truly Conservative State Council here in East Portsmouth.

The crowd cheers politely

“We should also have a truly Conservative government in Andromeda City, led by Dave Newton and Brian Hill.”

The crowd gives a slightly more enthusiastic cheer.

Drum’s remarks were followed by those of his wife, Assemblywoman Lorna Campbell. Both Drum and Campbell are members of the Andromeda LDS Church.

Image
Assemblywoman Lorna Campbell of East Portsmouth won her seat after her campaign found her opponent’s campaign paperwork insufficient. She married Ronald Drum early last year.

“We did what we promised to do in the first two years of Conservative rule in the Allied States. We can continue to see promises made and promises kept when we elect Newton and Hill to Todd House. We are so glad to have here the man who will help lead us to victory in November. Let’s welcome the next Vice President of the Allied States: Brian Hill.

Brian Hill was selected to the ticket as a nod to the Evangelicals who have been key to Conservative success in recent years.

Image
Assemblyman Ronald Hill of Beta City, the Conservative nominee for Vice President, is a former Governor of Beta City. Hill is also a former head of the Beta City Council of Churches.

“Thank you, Lorna Campbell and thank you, Ron Drum for your warm welcome. You know, so much has changed in our country since Joe Rutherford was elected two years ago. We have seen a restoration of moral leadership in our country the likes of which we have never seen before.”

“Dave and I wish to continue the process of setting our nation’s moral compass. We want our nation’s laws to reflect the Judeo-Christian traditions of our forefathers. We want the Social Democrat Party to know that we follow the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, not the gods Leonard Lawrence, Joe Clark and Sarah Vale.”

Lawrence is the Social Democratic leader. Clark is the previous Social Democrat President and Sarah Vale is a former Social Democrat President who inspires a particular hatred from Conservatives.

“Our forefathers didn’t come to this great nation from the four corners of the Earth so that our sovereignty could be stripped away. We haven’t become the envy of our region just so immigrants can cross our borders and take advantage of us. Dave Newton and I will continue to lead the Andromeda Islands forward.”

University of East Portsmouth
Student Union
East Portsmouth, Allied States
Friday, October 13, 2034

Ronald Drum was one of 13 Conservatives on the East Portsmouth State Council when Assemblyman Cecil Dobbs was elevated to the Supreme Judiciary Council. Once Dobbs’ seat was vacated, the Governor appointed Drum to fill his Assembly seat.

Drum had only been in office for 16 months. He also missed several meetings and hadn’t authored a single piece of legislation.

After Drum was appointed, three Conservative State Councilmen crossed the aisle, giving the SDP a 10-9 majority. As a result, Stephen Hiller became the first Social Democrat Governor of East Portsmouth.

The new majority was solidified when former Assemblywoman Regina Campo upset Erik Drum in his special election campaign for his brother’s state council seat.

Governor Hiller, Councilwoman Campo and a number of other Social Democrats have gathered before the main entrance steps of the University’s Student Union. They are here to introduce the SDP nominee for Vice President James T. Kalla. Here are some excerpts from the event:

Image
Former Assemblywoman Regina Campo of East Portsmouth (SDP) was disqualified in 2032 for not having enough valid signatures on her campaign petition. She was elected to the East Portsmouth State Council in early April, defeating Erik Drum in a special election.

“…I can say that during my 10-years in the Assembly, nobody has worked harder to make sure that our Agenda was passed than Leonard Lawrence and James T. Kalla.”

Regina Campo served in the Assembly from 2022 to 2032. She served seven of those years with Kalla.

“One of the few people who knows James T. better than me is my colleague on the State Council. I present to you, Governor Stephen Hiller.”

The crowd cheers. As Campo tries to leave the stage, Hiller grabs her hand. His hand feels funny.

“It’s time,” Hiller whispers. Campo begins to blush. She knows that Hiller bought an engagement ring, but isn’t quite prepared for the moment to be now.

Image
Captain Stephen Hiller, a veteran of the July Conflict, has been the Governor of East Portsmouth State since mid-March. Hiller and Kalla were classmates at the Naval Academy.

Campo stands awkwardly as Hiller holds her hand.

“Ladies and Gentlemen, Assemblyman Kalla, I know this isn’t what you expected, but I have to do this now.”

Kalla nods in permission. Hiller takes out a small box and opens it. Inside is a wedding ring. The crowd looks on as Hiller goes down on one knee.

“Regina Campo, will you marry me?”

Campo’s response is inaudible to the crowd, but she clearly says yes. As the couple embraces, Kalla stands up and applauds. The dignitaries on stage all follow. Hiller and Campo both walk up to the podium. Hiller yells.

“I give you the next Vice President of the Allied States, James Thomas Kalla.”

Kalla walks up and embraces the couple. The applause lasts for about 30 seconds before Kalla speaks.

Image
Assemblyman James Thomas Kalla of Portsmouth, the SDP nominee for Vice President, is the eldest son of former President James Earl Kalla.

“Now, normally, I don’t like being upstaged…”

The laughter continues for a few more seconds.

“…but this is what our campaign is about right here. It’s not just about politicians and votes in 2034. Regina served with me in the Assembly. Captain Hiller served with me in the Academy and in the Navy. He’s like a little brother. Charlie and I congratulate you both.”

As the crowd cheers Hiller and Campo one last time, Kalla whispers to them.

“You both got the gift,” Kalla whispers. “Use it for the best.”

Alicia Oramas, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Macaronesia, was asked about the following election in the Andromeda Archipelago during an interview in the public television.

"As a democratic nation we cannot do anything else but to desire a voting without incidents", she said. "But, if I can express my opinion, as a democratic nation we desire that the upcoming President respects the rights of everyone, no matter their religion, their skin, their political ideology or, of course, their sexual identity".

Oramas, who is member of the ruling Liberal-Democrat Party, leads its liberal wing, which is opened to agrees with the leftist parties about matters such as civil rights and liberties.

Sheila Jackson reports from City Hall in Andromeda City.

“Two years ago, former Vice President Glen Becker ran for the Assembly in an Andromeda City District against Karen Vale, the niece of former President Sarah Vale. Partly due to the demographics of the district, Karen Vale won by just under 300 votes.”

(Cut to footage of Tammy Becker’s announcement. Jackson voices over.)

“This time, Assemblywoman Vale was due to face the former Vice President’s daughter, Tammy Becker, an employee of Andromeda Conservative Media. The Conservatives were looking to present a fresh face against Vale.”

(Cut to Becker)

“We can’t return to the days of Social Democrat corruption. We must continue the March toward progress, where politicians have to watch their Ps and Qs.”

Image
Tamara Becker, the Conservative candidate in Andromeda City’s Northwest Assembly Plaza District, has been disqualified due to insufficient paperwork.

(Cut to Jackson)

“Becker may have watched her Ps and Qs, but she didn’t dot her Is and cross her Ts. A spokesman for the Andromeda City Election Board found that Becker didn’t have enough valid signatures for the petition portion of her candidacy folder.”

(Cut to election board work. Jackson voices over.)

“After Lorna Campbell got her opponent disqualified in East Portsmouth two years ago, both Social Democrats and Conservatives have scrutinized their opponent’s paperwork in races across the country.

“With me here at City Hall is Assemblywoman Karen Vale who is now unopposed for the Northwest Assembly Plaza District. Assemblywoman Vale, did you know about all of this?

Image
Social Democrat Assemblywoman Karen Vale (2032-present) is now running unopposed.

“I know that this election will likely be close and that both parties are doing everything they can to win. Frankly, you just told me everything I know about what happened with Tammy Becker.”

“You had no idea?”

“I was just talking with my cousin, Al Singer, who’s also running for the Assembly, when I heard just a few minutes ago. We were going to the Friendship Fish Fry on Douglas Street in Chapel Hill.”

Vale gives a wink to Jackson and raises an eyebrow.

“You’re starting at Friendship Baptist. What about Assembly Hall Church?”

“They’re selling lunches too. From what Al and Rev. Holstein tell me, you can get the best barbecue pork in the Allied States there this afternoon. We’ll be stopping there after we’re done.”

“With Assemblywoman Karen Vale, I’m Sheila Jackson. Andromeda News Network. We’ll be right back after these messages.

The Presidential Debate
Post-Debate Analysis
Cicero Auditorium
University of Nassau
Thursday, October 19, 2034
10:30

Many of the spectators for tonight’s Presidential Debate have already left Cicero Auditorium. The candidates and their people have moved backstage to deliver their post-debate assessments. Meanwhile, ANN Host Mace Gumbel is at Andromeda News Network Studios in Nassau with Assemblymen Conrad Green of Nassau and Orson Pratt of St. Paul. After the highlights are replayed on the Andromeda News Network, Gumbel shakes his head in disbelief at what he saw.

Image
Here’s your host for the day: Mace Gumbel.

“With me here this evening is Newton/Hill campaign spokesman Orson Pratt, an Assembly member from St. Paul. Pratt is also the Minister of Education. Assemblyman Pratt, what happened out there?

Image
Assemblyman Orson Pratt of St. Paul is the Minister of Education.

“What clearly happened is that Leonard Lawrence went for a Hail Mary, but it didn’t connect. Dave Newton broke up Lawrence’s desperate attempt to lay blame for the Good Friday murders at the feet of Dave Newton. Our candidate successfully pushed back.”

“But wouldn’t you say that Newton’s response was… a bit over the top?”

“That’s the difference between our Party and the Social Democrats. We’re willing to say what we think without regard to political correctness. Dave Newton says what he thinks.”

“Also with us is this evening, representing the Lawrence/Kalla Campaign is Shadow Treasury Minister Maurice Green. Green is Dave Newton’s Social Democrat counterpart on the Treasury Committee.”

“I’m sorry, but I don’t think Assemblyman Pratt saw the same debate I did.”

Image
Assemblyman Maurice Green of Nassau is the Shadow Minister of the Treasury. His district is also home to the University of Nassau.

“When asked about the unsolved murder of two of his colleagues, Dave Newton, the Conservative standard-bearer, their nominee for President, said, and I quote…”

“Everyone who watched tonight is aware of what he said, Mo.”

“He said, ‘Henry Godwin deserved to die,’ on national television.”

“Henry Godwin’s father was our first Conservative President. Godwin crossed the aisle two year ago to join your party. I wouldn’t have gone as far as Newton did, but you can’t deny that he was a Judas, a Benedict Arnold.”

“And his murder was never solved. Neither was Mary Curry’s.”

Both Assemblyman Henry Godwin of Syracuse and Assemblywoman Mary Sue Curry were murdered on Easter Weekend last year. Neither of their killers have been apprehended.

“Your man is accusing our man of murder.”

“He’s questioning why their murders hasn’t been solved, and your man’s response is that Henry Godwin deserved to die?”

“The Social Democrats are always taking our words out of context. Go back to your safe space…”

“This isn’t Andromeda Conservative Media, Orson. It’s not like our man was being treated with kid gloves.”

“This sort of fake news is why more and more Andromedans are rejecting the mainstream media and turning to sources like Alex Holmes.”

Orson Pratt takes off his microphone and walks out of the studio. There is a brief, awkward pause.

“With Assemblyman Maurice Green, this is Mace Gumbel with the Andromeda News Network. We’ll continue our post-debate coverage right after this.”

PM ENDORSES CONSERVATIVE ANDROMEDAN CANDIDATE WITH TYPICAL FLAIR

PORT HARRINGTON - After record low approval ratings for a Prime Minister just over a month into his premiership, Prime Minister Bill Prior made some typically colourful comments on a rather unexpected topic, namely the presidential election in the Andromeda Archipelago. At a press conference in Port Harrington last night, Prior batted away a Neuhannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung reporter's question on a possible vote of no confidence that the Social Democratic Party may table next week by remarking that "some are saying that they want a vote of no confidence in the House, well just look at what's happening over in the Andromeda Archipelago. That socialist Leonard Lawrence is ahead in the polls there and if he wins then that's when it'll hit the fan. That Newton bloke, he wants to do the best for the Andromedan Archipelago, just like I'm doing my best for the Ross Isles, and the best thing we can do for our countries is to say a big fat no to the nanny state and an even bigger, fatter no to politically correct nonsense." While most Ross Islanders have come to expect the occasional colourful comment from Prior, it is unknown what Andromedan Conservative presidential candidate, David Newton, thinks of the Prime Minister's surprise endorsement of his campaign.

Election Day
Tuesday, November 7, 2034
Noon

Mase Gumbel reports from the ANN News Desk in Andromeda City.

“After more than five weeks of campaigning, Assembly candidates throughout the Allied States will know their fate within the next 24 hours. Across the country, people are voting for their Assembly members to represent them in Andromeda City, they’re also voting for State Council members to represent their interests in the 18 state capitals across the Allied States. Robin Marion reports from a voting station in East Andromeda City.”

Cut to footage at a voting station in East Andromeda State. Robin Marion stands in front, talking to voters.

“Here in Andromeda State’s East Point district, voters are waiting to vote for their new Assembly member and State Council member. I’m here with Virgil Hammond, himself a former member of the Assembly. Mr. Hammond, who will you vote for today?”

Virgil Hammond is an elderly gentleman.

“I voted Conservative last time, but I plan to vote for the Social Democrat this time.”

“And who is the Social Democrat running?”

“Her name’s Sarah Lee Vale. Her aunt was the former President.”

Image
Sarah Lee Vale, a career civil servant, is running unopposed for her Assembly seat.

“And why are you voting for her this time?”

Hammond laughs. “Have you looked at the ballot? She’s the only one running. There ain’t much of a choice. The Conservatives haven’t put up much of a ticket this time around.”

“What about the State Council race?”

As Marion says that, a younger man walks up to Hammond.

“You’re looking at ‘em right here. This is my grandson, Trey. He’s running for the State Council… unopposed… as a Social Democrat.”

“Congratulations, Mr. Hammond. For a look at the Presidential race, let’s go to Taylor Sprinkle in St. Paul.

Cut to a Mormon meeting house in St. Paul State.

“Earlier today, Conservative nominee David Newton was out here with his wife, Liz. As we all know, before Newton can get elected President, he has to win his election to the Assembly. Newton is expected to win his Assembly race over token opposition.”

Image
David Newton, the Conservative nominee, voted this morning.

Cut to Gumbel.

“Are the Conservatives expected to hold all of their seats in St. Paul?”

Cut to Sprinkle.

“There are some seats that are being hotly contested. The Conservatives should carry St. Paul handily, but they may lose a seat or two when it’s all said and done.”

Cut to Gumbel.

“Thanks Taylor. For an update on the Lawrence campaign, let’s go to Elaine Fonner in Assembly Southwest.”

“Mace, unlike most Election precincts across the country, there is a bit of a carnival like atmosphere. Social Democrat nominee Leonard Lawrence has been greeting voters here since this morning. Lawrence is here with us now. How do you feel about your chances?”

Experts predict that Leonard Lawrence will be the next President of the Allied States.

“The Social Democrats have done a magnificent job. We have candidates in all but a handful of districts and we’re seeing record turnout throughout the country.”

“So, you’re not worried about the Conservatives?”

“Elaine, make no mistake about it. We want every vote we can get. We made a commitment to run quality candidates in every corner of the country. Hopefully, our hard work pays off tonight.”

“With Social Democratic leader Leonard Lawrence, this is Elaine Fonner. Back to you, Mace.”

Mace Gumbel reports from ANN studios in Andromeda City.

“It’s 11 o’clock on Election night here in the east, and it looks like we may have a winner in just a few seconds. The Social Democrats now currently have 100 seats while the ruling Conservatives have managed only 30 up to this point. And, we have a call from East Portsmouth. In that highly contested race out there, we have incumbent Assemblywoman Lorna Campbell losing out to her predecessor, Regina Campo. We go to Freddie Jones in East Portsmouth for details.”

“Mace, two years ago, Lorna Campbell won this district after her opponent, Regina Campo was disqualified. Campo appears to have regained her seat by at least 400 votes.”

“Fred, which one is Campbell and which one is Campo.”

“It’s interesting you should ask that, Mace. Apparently, the two main candidates are also distant cousins. There were apparently two branches of the Campbell family during the colonial era. The branch originally born into slavery were labelled Campo while the plantation owners and their descendants retain the original spelling. It was a difficult race, but it appears Regina Campo will win this one. It also helped that Campo married Governor Stephen Hiller last year. Otherwise, this race might not have been decided until morning. ”

Lorna Campbell (Con-I)   9,506      48.9%

Former Assemblywoman Regina Campo has been declared the winner in East Portsmouth’s 3rd District. She leads by more than 400 votes.

“And that seat in East Portsmouth puts the Social Democrats at 101 seats, which means that Leonard Lawrence will be the next President of the Allied States. We go to Robin Marion at the Assembly Plaza.

Robin Marion of the Andromeda News Network reports from the steps of the Assembly Building. A large crowd has gathered in anticipation of a victory speech from Social Democratic nominee Leonard Lawrence.

“Thanks, Mace. Organizers of the Lawrence campaign expected that their side would win, just not so early in the night.”

There is a loud cheer from the crowd. More results come in on a large screen.

“The campaign has told us that the introductions will start at around 11:30, and that Lawrence will address the nation as its President-elect shortly after midnight. Back to you. Mace.”

The Social Democrats will regain power next week. Leonard Lawrence will become President on Nov. 14th.

Gumbel turns to the panel of political experts.

“After this break, we’ll talk with our panel of political heavy-hitters about what led up to this victory tonight. Stay with us.”
