Jurisdiction in your country?

by Incelastan
Does your government punish its subjects for breaking its laws in other countries where such acts might be legal, or does it truly consider its jurisdiction to end at the water's edge?

In the case of Incelastan, it depends upon whether such acts undermine the State and the Revolution, the natural domination of society by Incels. If such acts are criminal for other reasons, but don't subvert the State and social order, they are not punished if committed on foreign soil.

We punish citizens if the crime is done overseas, thru extradition. We send back the person to the nation where he committed the crime and there he faces his trial. If imprisoned, he will be transferred back to our country and serve his sentence here.

by Thermodolia
Thermodolia does not arrest people for committing crimes in other nations that might be illegal in Thermodolia unless they are a war criminal or slaver. That being said Thermodolia will not arrest individuals in other nations, said individuals which have committed the above crimes would have to enter Thermodolia before they are arrested

by Hong Kong People
The Federal Republic of Hong Kong People will not arrest any of its nationals on foreign soil because it respects the sovereignty of other nations.Unless we have an extradition agreement with that nation, nationals will not be extradited back to our Republic. However, if our nationals are punished by death penalty in other nations with which we have not signed an extradition agreement, the Republic will engage in diplomatic negotiations with these nations in order to allow them to return to the Republic which enforces the punishment by life imprisonment instead of execution because the Republic believes human lives are sacred and under no circumstances should an individual's life be taken away by the law.

by Ankuran
A citizen or legal resident of Ankuran who leaves the country for the purpose of engaging in an activity that is illegal in Ankuran but legal in transit or destination, whether expressly to undertake said action or to undertake other actions as well, can be charged with conspiratorial, premeditated, or deliberate misconduct, the severity of which depends on the action in question. But it's hard to prove or prosecute, so in practice most actions aren't prosecuted unless they're involved in certain types of offenses. Sex tourism tends to receive the most media coverage, but most cases that go to court actually involve business practices. Ankuran's not very good for businesses.

crimes committed overseas are subject to extradition if the nation has signed a reciprocal policy. A Federal judge can hear appeals and any citizen can ask for an extradition hearing before a jury. If a citizen is wanted for murder, sexual assault, human trafficking, or serious crimes such as supporting a an insurgent group, international criminal organization, arms smuggling, or crimes against nature/humanity any nation can request extradition but its up to the State, and courts to agree to extradition to non treaty nations.

by TURTLESHROOM II
TurtleShroom cannot prosecute someone who breaks the laws of a foreign nation, because the imperial borders are where TurtleShroomian law's control ends. However, TurtleShroom can and does extradite the citizen if the crime they committed was either illegal in TurtleShroom or was "spectacular" (exceedingly large, unusual, or severe), violent, or sexual. This means the most extradition requests are granted individually. TurtleShroom has very few full extradition treaties, so all extradition instances are individually processed.

Arkdunham does not prosecute its citizens who break its laws in other countries, except for offences against the crown or the state, such as treason. However, leaving the state is a crime for most people.

Alinghi is a federal republic, every canton have an own civil and penal code, eventual Confederal Law, was insered in the single cantons' civil and penal code, passing with cantonal conversion law, what insered the Confederal Law in the cantonal jurisdiction, but the break of COnfederal Law will be judged by a Confederal Court.

In internal issue, the canton will not persecute his resident for every thing doing in another canton if that canton is legal.

In International, the Confederation will porsecute the Alingan Citizen who commit certain type of crimes (ex. have performance with sex-workers who have under 18 years old, involvment in severe crimes against humanity, etc...)

In general, laws which deal with the breach of the King's peace are not enforceable extra-territorially. Such laws include forsteal, murder, manslaughter, mayhem, battery, assault, affray, riot, theft, burglary and like crimes. The only crimes which are enforceable extra-territorially are crimes against the Crown and crimes against one's lord. These mainly fall into the categories of treason, treachery, sedition and leasemajesty.

by Drongonia
If a Drongonian citizen commits a crime overseas, we will attempt to have that citizen brought back to Drongonia after their sentence is served. In nations with punishments which we would consider cruel and unusual, our government will do its best to get the citizen back to Drongonia to face trial or to carry out an equivalent sentence here.

by Victorious Decepticons
Only treason is illegal here. You can bet that yes, if some Decepticon goes to another nation to try to pull significant treasonous/subversive acts against us, we WILL get them - whether or not the other nation agrees. If it does agree, we'll work together to bring the traitor back here and to the smelting pit. If the other nation doesn't agree, we'll send assassins and deliver the death penalty that way.

Officially, we can do this for ANY instance that qualifies as some sort of treason, subversion, attempt to weaken the nation, etc. However, in practice, we handle this on a case-by-case basis in order to best use our Foreign Intelligence resources. For instance, we often won't send assassins after someone who is a "simple defector" - for instance, a person who uses an android body to emigrate to some democracy as a regular person. However, we WILL put a spy onto his case to make absolutely sure that he doesn't backstab us in any serious way. It's always worth it to send a spy (if we don't already have one there to assign the job to) because even if the subject himself does nothing threatening towards us, the spy can learn more about the country he's in for general intelligence purposes.

~~~~~~~~~~~
When things are going the other way - someone other country's national coming here to avoid his own country's laws - that country is out of luck unless it can get its secret agents in here to deal with their guy extrajudicially. We never extradite.
That said, if we don't like what someone has done or seems likely to do, we'll make them leave our nation in a big hurry. We just don't make them go "home" once they're out of here.
by Gandoor
The Government of Gandoor generally does not arrest its citizens in foreign nations for actions done in that nation that are violations of Gandoorese law, exceptions are for cases of human trafficking, sexual crimes, or war crimes. In cases where an act is illegal in both Gandoor and the nation where the act was committed, the Government will generally allow the foreign nation to punish them based upon their own laws, however we will attempt to intervene if a Gandoorese citizen faces the possibility of the death penalty or punishment considered cruel and unusual, both of which are banned under Gandoorese law, and Gandoor and the nation which the crime occurred in do not have an extradition treaty. If successful, the individual who committed the crime on foreign soil will be returned to the Democratic Republic, where they will be arrested by Gandoorese authorities and tried in a Gandoorese court of law.
Treason can be prosecuted in Kozindoya when committed across national borders. Other crimes are tricky, and mostly aren't pursued.
We don't even let people leave.
If they were to be allowed to leave though, we would punish them for committing crimes in foreign countries, even if it is legal in that country.
We extradite for really serious crimes like murder and child molestation, for example, but we don't tend to extradite for small ones.
The few laws that Blodrike has, are not enforced extra-territorially. Neither do we extradite people for violating foreign laws.
by Deeper Grea
Deeper Grea has extradition treaties for crimes committed in nations where the foreign laws are similar in scope and severity. Deeper Grea generally does not punish it's citizens for actions done overseas where the action is legal in that country. The only exception is where those actions undermine the authority of the Deeper Grea state, or are in violation of international law, such as arms trafficing, sex trafficing, human trafficing, etc.
For abortion only. If a Terabithyan "doctor" performs an abortion in another country or if a woman lets kill her unborn child there, they are forbidden to reenter Terabithya. Otherwise they become punished (jail sentence or for the "doctor" capital punishment is possible).
  • Legal in Alzatia, illegal in other nation: Nothing happens.
  • Illegal in Alzatia, legal in other nation: For most crimes, nothing happens. The only crimes with extraterritorial jurisdiction are war crimes, terrorism, kidnapping, human trafficking and pedophilia.
  • Illegal in both nations: Alzatia does not extradite its own citizens. Instead, the crime would be tried in a local court as if it were committed locally.
Since we won’t extradite Sharifistani citizens we have a process for punishing citizens for crimes committed abroad.
by Strahcoin
The Strahconian Republic does punish those who commit these crimes, regardless of location:
  • Murder (including abortion, for both the abortionist and the mother who requested it)
  • Rape
  • Enslavement
  • Terrorism
  • War crimes
  • Other violent crimes
  • Treason to the U.S.A. or Strahcoin
  • Inciting violence towards innocents
  • Corruption
  • Theft/destruction of others' private property
  • Silencing free speech
  • Slander
  • Fraud
  • Other crimes directly violating innocents' rights to life/liberty/property
Perpetrators are punished in Strahconian courts.
The Strahconian Republic does not punish people for these crimes if such acts were done outside the nation:
  • Adultery
  • Illegal narcotic usage
  • Prostitution
  • Suicide
  • Driving/flying without a license
  • Other "victimless" crimes
Those who only commit "crimes" that are considered legal in Strahcoin and don't commit crimes that are considered illegal in Strahcoin are considered to be innocent.
