Abolitionist except for extreme circumstances

The death penalty is still applicable for the third offense and higher of murder or rape and for high treason in a time of war (during peace treason is punished by imprisonment).

The last execution was 10 years ago for a slave ship owner/captain who was executed for 32 counts of rape and 3 counts of murder by neglect.

The preferred method of execution is lethal injection.

Appalachia is Retentionist

Crimes that carry the possibility of the death penalty include:
-Murder
-Directly contributing to a death while engaged in another crime (e.g. a hostage-taker could be held liable for deaths that occur during a hostage rescue, in theory a drug dealer could he held liable for the overdose of his clients, though this interpretation has never occurred)
-Terrorist act resulting in death
-Contract Murder (includes being the person who hired the hitman)
-Felony Murder (being a knowing accomplice to any of the above crimes)
-Espionage*
-Vehicular Manslaughter while under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs
-Aggravated sexual assault**
-Sexual assault of a minor**

*Never been employed
**Moratorium on executions for this crime due to ongoing federal court cases, last employed in 2016

Appalachia had 19 executions in 2019. There are currently 107 death row inmates with an average stay of 6 years between sentencing and execution. Since independence in 1980, Appalachia has executed 497 prisoners. All executions are carried out by nitrogen asphyxiation.

The Free Land of Antityranicals is abolitionist by law. The Free Land was established in 2016, and the death penalty has been outlawed for the entire history of the nation.

Ruusiya still retains the death penalty, mostly for crimes like murder. Sometimes, we execute captured spies from the Rebel Alliance, but only after a trial by jury. Mind you, it's not a show trial, it's a... fair trial.

Brilliania is abolitionist in practice: the last execution was held in March 2019 for a murderer and a federal moratorium was decreed by the First Citizen Endrike Karagori five days after the execution, citing the nineteenth article of the Third Constitution of the Republic and the twelfth article of the Book of Administrative Law which both guarantee the right to life. The death sentence is a legal option (not mandatory) for murder or aggrevated sexual assault, and it is carried out by way of lethal injection. In Brillian law, terrorism and the murder of multiple people is counted as multiple convictions of murder, and not as a separate crime.

In the worst cases of that commited crimes, your siblings, cousins of first, second and third line, parents, spouse, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great-grandparents will incur the punishment.

The NAU retains the penalty of death for only a few exceptions, at the general level and provincial level:
- Murder, rape (general for aggravating circumstances, inter-provincial jurisdiction for aggravating circumstances, provincial (with aggravating circumstances) for 38 provinces)
- Terrorism, espionage (general, though the NAU Treachery Act 1937 allows for somewhat less evidence requirements during wartime for the offense of treachery)
- War crimes, military crimes of spying for the enemy, murder, and treason, and crimes with aggravating circumstances (general (provincial forces as well if federalized and/or at wartime) and provincial (if convicted was a member of the provincial forces during conflict/federalization))
- Treason (general and provincial, except for pure humanitarian assistance of enemy)

*Any persons convicted and sentenced to death shall be condemned to death by hanging (for civilian crimes) while military crimes have death by firing squad, unless commuted or pardoned by the President-General (only general and military crimes including provincial military forces during wartime and/or province has allowed for its provincial forces to be federalized) or provincial governor (provincial crimes, provincial military forces during peacetime).
**General Court of Appeal case, Judd v. Rawlins mandates a quick and painless execution of those accused of capital crimes and education of the convicted of the pain and method of their execution.
***Growing and heeded call for a moratorium of utilizing the death penalty in 25 out of the 51 Provinces and all five indigenous federalized protectorates.

Although death penalty still exists on the law books, it has been stopped in practice with a few exceptions. Crimes such as Terrorism, Mass Murder, Proven Rape of a Minor and Treason is penalised with Death Penalty.
Death Penalty has not been used for any other crimes since the Commonwealth Privy Court outlawed it across the entire British Commonwealth in 2001

Abolitionist in practice.

Death penalty by shooting can be delivered for a variety of capital crimes, such as murder, termination of an artificial being, rape, genocide, serious fraud & cyberhacking/espionage.

However, the most recent execution occurred in 2219, where AG pilot Sylvain Decarne was found to have been race fixing throughout an entire league by mindjacking the cyber brain of the head robotic referee in charge of racing in the Singapore Integrated Urban Zone.
