Introduction

The Colony of Vilank is a democratic country with almost 200 million citizens. Its governmental policy according to constitutional legislation is dedicated to upholding freedom and peace not only for its citizens, but also in international relations, if possible.
It is also the policy of Vilank to guarantee its citizens a long healthy life, with the maximum of education and social security possible to bear by the whole society. As the main way to aproach these goals in the Colony of Vilank every form of extremism and fanaticism is frowned upon and only political powers as religious organizations that stand for these principles are permitted to participate in the public and social life, while extremist organizations - weather right or left - are kept under strict control, if they are not even banned. This is done not to streanghten the power of the ruling groups and parties, but to guarantee a long-lasting and healthy social and politically wise government and society to benefit all the citizens of Vilank.

Geography

The Colony of Vilank is placed in the "Planet of Pagnalis", a earthsize moon around the gas-giant "Pagmoth", the 5. planet around the star "HR-7898", which is 47.7 lightyears from the Sun.

The capital of Vilank is Jaicmeda, with a population of appr. 6 Million.

History

Overview:
The ancestors of the people of Vilank are the legendary people of Atlantis. This was not, like it is often said by ignorant earthlings, a "sunken continent" but a very real empire on the turkish peninsula that existed from 15.000 to 10.000 BC. It was a powerful empire, ruling the whole balcanic peninsula, the area of the near and middle east and parts of the indian subcontinent. It was culturally and technologically advanced, and in the last 200 years of its existance it developed technologies that could be called modern and advanced in many ways, even in our time on earth, including a space program that exceeded the modern earth technology. In 10.001 BC Atlantis was destroyed by an surprise-attack of an alien race, enemy to Atlantis. Some people managed to escape the slaughter and mass killings by fleeing to other continents on earth, bringing the people there small pieces of their annihilated culture. Some of them flew in spaceships and travelled to a distant star - HR 7898 - and colonized a life-bearing moon around a gas giant in this system... This is their story.

There are 2 timelines in the History of Vilank, one for the history of Atlantis and one for the history of the colonizers of HR 7898.

The ancient Atlantis:

1 AAT(Ancient Atlantis Time) [~15.000 BC]

Founding myth of Atlantis - The poor orphan slave Ariolost flees from the brutal and barbaric City-King Riamar with the kings doughter, after they fell in love, hiding from the evil king, who wanted to sell his daughter to an neighbour king. He marries her in a village he founded on a small hill . They live peacfully and happy, while people come to his village, accepting him as their new City-King for his justice and goodness. Soon the village grows to a real town and the old evil king comes with an army to kill everyone in the new founded town - Atlantis - (which means in his language: "City of peace and harmony").

Ariolost performs a holy ritual with the help of a priest of the god Rollon (which is Apollon of the greek mythology), praying for help against the army of Riamar. The next day the small group of Ariolost stands in front of the big army of Riamar, and the evil king already gives the order to slaughter them down, when a fire comes down from the sky and kills Riamar. His army turns over to Ariolost and he gets the kingdom of Riamar.

After he shows his kindness and peacefullness - he abolishes slavery, gives rights to the poor - neighbouring city-kings turn over to him peacefully, in a few years he rules a giant kingdom and never makes war, but always stays good and peaceful.

But a dark profecy is said by the priest: "Long years your kingdom will stand, in good and in bad times, but finally the evil will prevail, after 50 and 100 years...".

50 AAT

Ariolost is killed by "The 100", an cult of evil-worshippers. They are killed, but the cult will survive and over the centuries it will gain more or less power, according to the moral situation in the kingdom...

~500 to ~1000 AAT

Begin of the 1st dark age, moral and cultural decline, barbarian attacks, "The 100" gain more and more power, till they can push their high-priest on the throne...

756 AAT

The cult of "The 100" gains the power in Atlantis, religious unrest, mass killings

953 AAT

End of the 1st dark age: the cult of "The 100" is expelled, its leaders executed, it however survives...

~1000 to ~4000 AAT

The golden age of Atlantis. Peace and harmony rule through many dynasties of good kings

4050 AAT

After the 4000 years of the golden age in Atlantis a powerful earthquake destroys many cities, the kingdom is weakened, barbarians, led by the newly risen cult of evil attack and enforce a rule of terror and destruction

4050 to ~4500 AAT

The second dark age of Atlantis, the new evil cult rules, but doesn´t fight down the old religions, which lets the people accept the rule and become slaves of the new ruling barbarian-evil dynasty

from ~4500 on

The renaissance of culture and civilization in Atlantis, also called "the second Atlantis", monarchy is abolished, democracy is the new system, the empire becomes secular, technology and culture reach a new high

An alien race surprise-attacks Atlantis, hundreds of millions are killed, the aliens systematically destroy the technology and culture of Atlantis, only about 200.000 people survive the mass murder, they flee to all surrounding areas and continents, spreading little parts of the once rich culture of Atlantis. Atlantis is totally destroyed, all cities are systematically flatened, all people on the turkish peninsula are killed.

5001 AAT

A small group of survivors, about 6000, find an unharmed shuttle bay with intact spaceships. They leave the earth and follow an old prophecy, talking about a legendary planet in space. Its Name: "Pagnalis".

5003 AAT

The survivors crash-land on the biggest, inhabitable moon of the 5. planet of HR 7898, 47.7 light years from earth. They call the planet Pagmoth and the moon Pagnalis, after the prophecy that led them here.

The survivors have to start from scratch, they have almost no technology left, the culture they came from is dead, they begin a new life and develop slowly...



The new nation of Vilank

3 VT [Vilankian Timeline, 9997 BC]

The survivors of Atlantis crash-land on Pagnalis, the first city is beeing built: Jaicmeda ("City of hope"), the people call themselves "Vilankians", which means "The newly born people"

~400 VT

There exist about 200 cities, all independent but in peaceful relations to eachother

~500 VT

The different vilankian colonies split, the "third dark age" begins, with wars devastating the landscape..., the history and culture are forgotten, new City-Kings rise and fall, everyone is fighting eachother...

An additional threat are some semi-intelligent aboriginal lifeforms - apelike, who are beeing exploited as slaves
in the agriculture and other work-intensive places, but soon developing more and more intelligence and becoming thus more and more powerful...

764 VT

The ape-slaves revolt and enslave the Vilankians, beginning the darkest episode of Vilankian History, where sometimes people even forget the human language and are exploited fiercely by the apes for agriculture and beeing killed for sport... only a few intelligent people remain, keeping the history of Atlantis and Vilank from the apes and their willing mute human slaves.

~800 to ~7200 VT

The third dark age lasts till somewhere in the years of 7200 VT, when a devastating virus slowly kills all apes and many humans.
Only a few hundred intelligent people have managed to keep the secret of culture in the 7000 years of darkness. After the death of the apes they begin to educate the people, a long period of rising begins...

~7400 to 7934 VT [2066 BC]

Again the darkness wins over wisdom, the lessons of the past are forgotten fast, kings rise and fall, people kill eachother in senseless wars... till in the year 7934 VT [2066 BC] the end seems to be near...

7934 VT

A group of astronomers warn the people of Vilank, still engaged in some senseless war, that 50 years ahead an asteroid will hit Pagnalis, destroying all life on the planet. At this point all the people understand the message and make peace with eachother, combining their powers to build up science and technology to prevent the disaster.

This is the turning point of Vilankian history. For the first time in thousands of years there is a united state and no fighting colonies or just common decline. "People join together to fight the common threat and forget about all the shit, that happened before..." (first president of Vilank, Sarandor Ivirant in 7940 VT). Along with that democracy is reinforced and secularism is installed, respecting religion and tradition, and not fighting them.

7984 VT

A group of spacerockets start to space and hit the asteroid "Vojantris", slightly redirecting it and thus saving Pagnalis from total annihilation. The day of the hit, the 28. Varagan ( March 1st, 2016 BC), is since then the national memorial day.

8000 VT [2000 BC]

Interstellar spaceflight is reinvented, the first interstellar flight goes to earth, the mission doesn´t land due to fear of infection with unknown illnesses

Economy

The Economy of Vilank depends mainly on the middle classes, which make more than 80% of the population. Major kartels or companies with more than 5000 employees are banned and there is therefore a big diversity in the market, making great collapses of the economy nearly impossible and also streanghten the market system by generating a strong rivality between the companies for good quality and cheap prices.

Military

There doesn´t exist a military apart from the police forces, but the "Special Forces" or "VSF", officially part of the police force, are organized quite like a ordinary army with Gen. Valder Roald on the top.

The most important of the VSF is the airforce, which is also space-capable. The main fighting plane is currently the Ik-56, a space-capable fighter-bomber:

Communication

The main information source of Vilank are the many newspapers, radio programs and the TV channel "VST-1". In general TV is considered by most of the public as unserious and thus no important information medium, and internet is not available in Vilank, exept in some official buildings like libraries and universities, because of the lack of interest of most vilankians in such a medium.

Nature

The surface of Pagnalis is covered mostly with jungles, where not colonized, most of the land is untouched by civilization. The planet provides an unique ecosystem with billions of species that live only here. There are however species that also live on earth, a fact that couldn´t be explained by no theory so far.
