Probably the most common Kawaiian street food is soba, basically thin noodles, usually buckwheat but made with whatever cheap local flour is available. They're boiled ahead of time, cooled and stored in an icebox, then reheated in boiling water and served in a small, palm-sized bowl with assorted chopped vegetables and a sweet, soy-based broth. Soba is considered a "universal snack" by Kawaiians, enjoyable any time of day.
