Information about social customs: The head of a family, called the patriarch (does not necessarily have to be male, but usually is because in most families women leave the family on marriage) has the right to make legally enforcable rules governing the family, involving things such as marriage, childrearing, conduct, and employment. The government will enforce rules that restrict LGBT+ rights within a family, even if the government does not have the authority to restrict those rights. Anyone at the age of 18 can leave their family and start a new one consisting initially of only themself, but if they do not do so they often cannot leave their family for the rest of their life.
