Ophir Shuttle Launch a Success
July 16, 423 A.C.
Atton Rand Space Center — The space shuttle Ophir roared into orbit today carrying the first Acasian astronauts in centuries on a rare manned expedition to space. The morning launch from the Atton Rand Space Center in Lehon took place under exceptionally benevolent weather conditions, the shuttle rocketing upwards into orbit to complete its mission: reactivating the Confident Hylemorph array of military satellites, and bringing a mixed North Ophiric-Acasian astronaut crew to the International Space Station.
Though Col. Florin Stolojan and his men, all fighter pilots of the Acasian air force, had been training with the FAB since 418 to complete a manned spaceflight, budgetary constraints and shuttle fleet maintenance problems delayed the mission to 423 A.C. Vice President Chris McCara Ninety-Nine Overture M. Ley personally attended the launch ceremony, noting it a 'momentous occasion' for the Federal States and her friends.
Along with their mission to board the International Space Station and reestablish functionality of the Confident Hylemorph satellites, a variety of tests and experiments are expected to be undertaken to analyze the current state of debris in Tsion's orbit.
Confident Hylemorph 3 was successfully rebooted by a team of Euphemian technicians by 9:00 PM EST.
"This presents a future of prosperity and cooperation between our nations," announced Vice President Ley to a crowd shortly after launch. "Where not only the Federal States, but her friends and allies alike stand together in the stars." The Ophir's launch preceded the announcement of a Euphemian-FRNO-Acasian joint project, dubbed 'Celestial Lance I', a rocket of which could 'bring man to the moon once more'. Euphemian, Acasian and North Ophiric cooperation in civilian space development isn't new. In fact, some of the oldest rockets still serving the Federal Aerospace Bureau, the Mnemosyne VI, are the result of joint development by Euphemian, North Ophiric and Acasian aerospace corporations.
"By 430, the flags of our three nations will fly on Lucina's surface." Col. Stolojan remarked in a brief speech from the International Space Station.
