YN’s Election Day

Postby Lacona » Thu May 30, 2019 11:26 pm

What day (or days) does your nation hold elections? Are these days public holidays or just another working day?

This is the thread for all your Election Day intrigues, facts and stats. What hours are polls open? Is there advanced voting or other special voting methods?

In Lacona, “Election Day” is actually “Election Days” as polling is conducted from 0700 on a Saturday to 2200 on the following Sunday.

Voters are automatically enrolled to vote, so as long as they are 16 years old or over on either of the election days they can vote. Postal votes popular and anyone can apply for one. A postal vote that isn’t sent off in time can be handed in to any polling station. There is also a digital voting register (as well paper-based ones for checking nobody has voted more times than they’re allowed) so voters can cast a vote at any polling station.

Voting is by proportional representation in multi-member regional constituencies and parties generally require 5% of the vote to win seats (this can be higher or lower depending on number of MPs being elected from a region).

The UK shouldn’t just remain in Europe, it should replicate Europe: proportional representation, adopt the euro, join the Schengen area, shift to Western European Standard Time (and scrap DST while we're at it) and become a republic (eventually). We’ve always sat at the edge of Europe when we should sit at its heart!

There is no fixed date on which elections are held, and elections are held more than a single day. This is to properly ensure each citizen can not only vote, but that it happens within each province of the Empire. First the people of Italia vote, Roma usually votes on the first day, then the rest of the Province begins voting, once this is over the richest provinces in the Empire vote until the least wealthy have their turn.

This is essentially a less complicated and more developed evolution of our ancestors voting in the Republican era, where the vote would start from the wealthiest until the poor could vote, however in the old system it was to ensure the rich maintained power more often than not, only delegating votes to the masses when there was a tie. While this may still happen in this new system, it is to benefit the poorer regions of the Empire, as it allows them to better prepare when the time comes to cast their vote.

While there is no set date, the last couple elections have traditionally been started on the start of July.

Voting goes towards the elections of Consul's, Senators, and various other government bodies.

In the Trojean Society of Nyelu, a duo between two highly trained chiefs in a major stadium with thousands of people. No weapons, or back up are allowed. The only thing allowed is their raw skill, as it is their true character that is tested. Killing isn’t allowed. The winner of the fight becomes ruler of the Trojean Empire and the Commander & Chief of the empire’s military. But this is just amongst the Trojeans, as their society is very “survival of the fittest” minded.

Elections, when they happen, last from Monday until Friday, with the results announced on Saturday evening.
Although legally only registered voters (who have to pay a fee of M500* to register) can vote, and they can only cast one ballot, in truth, anyone can vote, if they pay the bribe, and there is no limit (other than the size of their wallets) to how many times they can vote.

Results of the last elections were:
  • Parliamentary election (7-11 May 2018):
    • 584 seats for the Make Miraclia Great Again party (MMGA)
    • 367 seats for the Business Party (BP)
    • 299 seats for the Anti-Terrorist Party (ATP)
  • Presidential election (7-11 November 2016):
    • 69% Ronald T. Dump (MMGA - incumbent)
    • 21% Fredrick Jameson (BP)
    • 10% James Fitzpatrick (independent)
* M500 is about 5USD.

There is no fixed day, however by convention elections are usually held on a Saturday provided that no more than four years has passed since the last election.

Technically elections last longer than a day due to Radiatia encompassing multiple time zones.

Elections, and other votes, are always on a Tuesday. Polling stations are open from 6 am until midnight, although they usually close between noon and 3 pm, especially if the weather is hot.

Anyone who has lived in Yannia for the last 6 years, or at least 6 out of the last 9 years, and speaks Yannian can register to vote. Registering is free, and takes about 15 minutes. Anyone registered will be sent a voters pass for any relevant election or vote, which they can trade for a ballot in the polling station.

Yannians abroad can vote at the Yannian embassy, or any consulate in the nation they are staying in, or if such are absent, in a neighboring, or nearby nation that does have diplomatic relations with Yannia, provided they registered as absentee voter before they left Yannia.

Voting for national and state parliaments is by proportional representation.
Yannia's nation page contains an error. The population should be in millions, not in billions.

Election Day in Thermodolia is always on August 12th, from 0600 to 2300 and is a national holiday.

All citizens who are above the age of 18, aren’t in prison and are registered to vote are eligible to vote. Voting is done on electronic ballot marker which is a type of Optical scan voting system, paper ballots, or mail-in ballots.

Voting is by closed list proportional representation in a single national district for the National Assembly, STV for the Federal Senate, and two round system for the Presidency.

Voting - South World

Postby South World » Fri May 31, 2019 8:26 am

All citizens are automatically registered to vote on their 20th birthday. Registration is suspended when a person is incarcerated. Felons must request reinstatement from the court.
Election Day is actually voting week and begins at one minute after midnight the first Monday of November and continues until one minute after midnight Saturday morning. The polls are open 24 hours a day.
Absentee ballots are available for military personnel stationed away from their homes and for students at school. Persons of sound mind that are bed bound or in hospital may request absentee ballots. All other requests are handled on a case by case basis by a nonpartisan team of two people.
Voting is considered a duty. By law all persons over the age of 20 and of sound mind and not incarcerated, are required to vote unless excused by a court. Persons who fail to vote are fined.

Elections in Gandoor always occur on a Saturday, although as we encompass three time zones, the polls themselves do not fully close until past-midnight the following Sunday.

Per the Conduct of Elections Act 1963, all polls must open at 6.00 AM local time on election day and, while they must disallow new people from getting in line to vote at 11.00 PM local time, they must allow everyone who was already in line and waiting to vote to do so.

Absentee or mail-in ballots must be postmarked by election day and must be received by the elections office within one week past the election day (in order to accommodate delays in mail delivery, especially for absentee voters who were not in Gandoor at the time of the election).

Voting in Gandoor is non-compulsory and any citizen aged 20 or older may register to vote.

Elections in Polata City can occur on any day of the week as there are no set times for elections. The Election Day will be announced by the monarch and is considered a national holiday.

All polling stations open at 0700 and close at 2200. After 2200 no more persons are allowed in the line but those in line can still vote. Voting is mandatory in Polata City for all citizens above the age of 20.

Voting is conducted by paper ballots only, though mail-in ballots are accepted. The 100 MPs are elected in 25 4 member districts by STV.

A typical election day for a German election (regardless of whether it's legislative, executive or a referendum, local, state or federal) is a Sunday. Polling stations open at 0700 and close at 2300, so they stay open for exactly 16 hours - with allowances for people who are already at the station but have not gotten to vote yet. Mail-in ballots are accepted, and all ballots are paper for the most part - though a few municipalities are experimenting with e-voting on the local level.

Federal elections in the Achaean Republic take place every four years on the first Sunday in November. The next elections will take place on Sunday, November 1, 2020. According to the latest Constitutional Amendment and changes to the Federal Voting Law of 1957, the following elections will take place:

  • President in a balotaje (two-round) system; if no candidate reaches the absolute majority (50%+1), then a second round election will be held with the two most-voted candidates three weeks later, on the third Sunday of November, or the Sunday before Thanksgiving. (In this case, if necessary, a second round will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2020.)
  • Congress: The House of Representatives will be chosen using open-list proportional representation based on the population of the states, while one half of the Senate will always be elected, one per each state, by a winner-takes-all system.
  • State Elections: Constitutionally, states are not required to hold elections on the same day as the Federal elections. However, most states choose to do so to elect their governors, assemblymembers (the name of the legislative body differs in each state), mayoralities and other local elections on the same day as the federal election in order to maximize turnout and ensure convenience.

Elections traditionally occur on Sundays, after church. Theoretically the Sheriff or Mayor as returning officer of writs de electione are entitled to set their own election days provided that the writs are returned before the date engrossed thereupon, which usually will be the date on which Exordium Parlamenti occurs, typically on a Wednesday in early November. The typical date for elections is around St Peter's Day on the 1st of August, between the hay and wheat harvest periods.
