Public Bathing in YN

Postby Hatterleigh » Tue Apr 09, 2019 6:48 pm

There are many areas of the world where public baths are commonplace. From Hungary to Japan. In history, public baths often were very important to hygiene and socializing. Does your nation still have public baths, if so what are they like?

Hatterleigh had many public bath houses built in the later middle ages, as the subcontinent is known for being a geothermal hot spot, rife with volcanic activity. during the renaissance, a time when much of the west abandoned bathing under the idea that it spread plague, thermal baths still thrived in Hatterleigh, and many were built to mimic the old latin bath houses. Citizens still use thermal baths in Hatterleigh today.

Indeed, and although mostly run via businesses, its commonplace as a way to relax, like a nice day at the spa, but with both men and women. In addition, it's deeply cultural as a way to relax, and despite the lack of geothermal activity in the new Athonunan land, back in history it had a significant cultural effect.

Public bathhouses were once a common sight in the Empire, and did not fall to the wayside of disuse until well into the 20th century; while you can still find them, in use even, it is not as common a sight as it used to be. Most modern ones are owned by historic community oversight committees, or private interests. When they were common they were segregated only by social pressure, not by convention, and seeing unisex baths was while uncommon, not rare or dissuaded.

Public bathhouses exist. They are more common in rural areas, in particular, villages and small towns, rather than in bigger towns and cities, where they are rarer. Also, one is more likely to find a bathhouse in the colder and mountainous areas than elsewhere.
Be advised: This nation will CTE.

They exist in many places that don't get a lot of running water or in the really rich areas (mostly the Anchorage, Juneau, and San Juan areas, though Atlanta also has one), but some states have laws against 'public indecency', and one (S. Kentucky) explicitly names public baths as public indecency.

Public baths exist in Great Nortend and are popular with the lower classes dwelling in the cities and towns, for whom a bath at home is an expensive and difficult luxury owing to the need to boil many gallons of water. Public baths are segregated by sex and are of a stall design. Bathers usually use bath brushes, various bathing preparations and soap, with wooden buckets in order to wash themselves. More expensive baths will also have a bathing pool, or multiple, for relaxation after cleaning, much in the same fashion as a Turkish bath.

Bathers are usually required to wear bathing costumes when in the bathing pool, which are traditionally made from bleached linen, shorts for men and a robe/gown with weighted ends for women.

═───╡❖╞────────═ PUBLIC BATHS IN THE FREEHOLD ═────────╡❖╞───═

The concept of public bathing was a longstanding tradition in numerous Selian city-states and kingdoms prior to the Roman conquests, with evidence stretching as far back as the Bronze Age. Sex segregated, these baths would be within specially constructed buildings, and used for means of social interaction as well as cleanliness. For men and women both, the public baths provided one of the few spaces in which exposure of the body to the point of nudity was considered acceptable, and the bathhouses became known as places of secrecy, for what was seen in the bathhouse was not discussed elsewhere, nor was what was said. Numerous infamous murders came to be committed in bathhouses, featuring in multiple Selian legends. Abductions and rapes, primarily focusing on young women, are also documented in legends.

Whilst the concept declined substantially during the Middle and High Periods, the Modern Period has seen a revitalisation of the bathhouse as a means of social bonding. Fully sex segregated, and with greater female frequency due to higher freedom of movement, the baths are not the main manner of keeping oneself clean, but serve instead as a way to re-clean the body in good company. To actually bring dirt into the baths is considered impolite, and it is more of a luxury setting.

Bathhouses are an enterprise in their own right, run as businesses, and offering secondary services such as food and drink, elevating the bathhouse to a type of club or social outing. Whilst unisex bathhouses are seen by the majority of the populace as blatant immodesty, enabling thoughts of suspicion to any man or woman who share a bath for illicit behaviour, they are known to operate fairly secretly amongst some upper class circles, often in privately owned bathhouses, or establishments which grant access following passwords.

Bathing is typically done naked by both males and females, where men and women of friendship or new acquaintance can gather and talk.

Prior to modern plumbing, public bathing was essential to the cleanliness of the people. Public bathing in natural or artificial thermal baths remains heavily ingrained in Wulòhadzharìk culture as a religious cleansing and for social gathering, courtship, and exercise.

Public bathing remains a firmly placed tradition in the islands. There are two types of public baths, enclosed bathhouses some are resort others are meant for more practical uses, and others are open air. The public bathhouses are traditionally enclosed in a structure of some kind and often charge a small fee for use. They also tend to offer varieties of options for either cleaning or simply relaxing and socializing in. These often are co-ed but there are usually single-sex options as well. Open air are just as they sound, out in the open, sometimes these are extention of the houses for overflow purposes or those wanting to enjoy time outside but there's also free open ones provided by natural hot springs dotted around the islands. These are seldom privately held, even if in close proximity to one's home, though common etiquette says not to use it without permission if its in eye shot of somebody's home.

Public baths, while not very traditional in Voxija, have recently grown in popularity. In the more liberal areas of big cities, you can even see people bathing in the open air. It is fairly uncommon in most areas, but the general populace is okay with public bathing. They won't actually do it, however. What really disgusts Voxijans is men and women bathing together.

Public bathing is forbidden under nudity laws, but communal baths - spas and hot springs - are occasionally found, mostly to cater to tourists. Griemvarantan culture is rather stoic with regards to dress style and public exhibitionism.

Public bathhouses in our nation are extraordinarily rare. They aren't banned or anything, it's just that no one has any interest in such a thing.

However, it is common to bathe in the ocean here. Many do participate in this activity, which is forbidden in public beaches but allowed in designated areas.

While public bathing was banned for a short time between 1868 - 1880, the ban was rescinded because of how impossible it was to enforce in a culture where onsen were traditional for hundreds of years. There are many different public baths in Chishima (although lewd activity is not allowed in the slightest).

In the Pretitleship, public bathing is still a thing, even in urban areas. However, there are some guidelines to follow.
  • Women and men must be in different Chambers at all times. If you want to get intimate, get a private slot. Otherwise, the offender will be fined, and repeat offenders will be jailed 1 year for invasion of privacy.
  • People must always be covered by something whenever outside the bath or chamber. Showing your bare skin in the chamber is okay, as only those your gender are in sight. Otherwise it is showing an inappropriate picture to young ones. Those who are caught will be fined.
  • Any obscene actions will be reported to the person in charge of the bath.
  • Gay sex is NOT, and NEVER, allowed.
  • If you have kids, bring them to the children's chamber. You can choose to either take care of them there or leave them with a supervisor. Don't worry. It will be safe for your little ones.
  • Those under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, not matter the circumstances.

Public bathing is banned in Oryok. In fact, all forms of leisure is banned in Oryok since it is nothing but a waste of time that severely impedes the productivity of the Oryokian National-Workers' Revolutionary Enlightenment, if anything the concept of leisure is used by the Internationalist Corporate Banking Coalition as a weapon to weaken any and all nations by hindering all forms of social mobility and distracting the masses from doing work. As a result, public bathing in Oryok is punishable by death through drive-by shooting from a cooperative commune's local death squads.

Seeing as one of our constituent countries is Japan, public bathing is, while on a decline, still a fairly common thing in that part of our country.

In other other constituent countries (Korea and Taiwan), however, public bathing is nearly unheard of, with the few facilities that exist there being built by the local Japanese communities for their own use.

Single-sex public bath houses are a staple of Elamite culture, although their practical function has been rendered obsolete by the advent of modern plumbing in many homes. Bath houses continue to serve a social function, particularly in the case of bridal preparations before wedding ceremonies.

Owing to our planet's significant volcanic and seismic activity, we have a lot of natural hot springs which are popular for both leisure and cleaning ones self. Many of them are free and open to the public completely free and nearly all allow both sexes and all ages to bathe together. Nudity is not considered taboo so if you want people to be covered up, or women and/or children separated, you may have to pay for a private bath that caters to foreigners. Temperatures typically range from 35 to 45 degrees C.

No. We have always snooted up our noses at this practice. Who would want to go get pressure-washed in public, where everyone can see how dirty you were by looking at the gray foam dripping off of your wings, and where the equipment treats you like some part in a factory?!

This is one of the ways we were always different from the Autobots. They loved their "car washes," where every user got a stall and then high-powered sprayers would blast them with soap and cheap liquid wax if they threw a few Cubelets through the payment door, as if they were non-sapient machines. They'd even act like that was fun and go there in groups. Ugh. That just shows how much they lacked any class.

Obviously, we Decepticons have private cleansing areas and workshops inside our houses, so we do not need to publicize the need for these activities.
