Is centrism prominent in your nation?

Postby Deltanium » Mon Mar 04, 2019 12:49 am

Note: I mean Social Liberalism, Classical Liberalism,Christian Democracy and Radical Centrism.

The general definition of centrism is “In politics, centrism—the centre (British/Canadian/Australian English) or the center (American/Philippine English)—is a political outlook or specific position that involves acceptance or support of a balance of a degree of social equality and a degree of social hierarchy, while opposing political changes which would result in a significant shift of society strongly to either the left or the right.”

Centre-left and centre-right politics both involve a general association with centrism combined with leaning somewhat to their respective sides of the spectrum.

Various political ideologies, such as Christian democracy, can be classified as centrist.”

Centrism is rare because of polarizing politics five years ago but with ban on parties there is a resemblance of centrist in leader although activist citizens aren't

Centrism is not prominent in Zhouran. If anything, Zhouranese politics is strongly socially right-wing and economically left-wing. Political divide in Zhouran isn't based on the left-right dichotomy but rather it's based on the moderate-hardline dichotomy.

In Deltia, the LDU is the largest centrist party. However, they only win occasionally although their support is essential for any Deltian government, be it the NCP or DLP. Those centrist liberals are a rational choice in almost every election, and the polls prove it.

Politics have become very polarized in Ostyrovia. For 80 years centrists were seen as treasonous and subversive by the Ostyrovian Soviet, and in the years of the long civil war, the most popular ideology that has emerged is Tyranism, a form of fascistic conservatism based off of the ideals of General Tyran, the leader of the military and citizen revolt against the Soviet. Many people now consider centrists passive collaborators of the hated Ostyrovian Soviet. While they are not considered true criminals like the members of the former government and other communists that will be prosecuted for crimes against the people, they are nonetheless looked on with suspicion and derision.

Centrism is banned in Oryok for it is nothing but political fence-sitting and capitalist-enabling. Therefore centrism is a threat to the Oryokian National Workers' Revolution.

We came out of the ashes of the 2nd American civil war. The Concervatives stayed in Hopington and the Liberals fled the country and went to what used to be New York, California, Canada and Florida New Disney world took over Florida so they either stayed or went to Cuba. California was taken over by Mollosia witch allowed them to stay however most went to Canada or to Baja. The people who went to Canada either survived in Forest Tribes or froze to death.

What you describe as the political centre is nowhere near the centre of Esweyan politics, so no, centrism is not common here. Of course, in reality "the centre" is always represented by the status quo, and using that definition centrism is very prominent - rapid change is very unusual in our society

Centrism has moderate support in the Itopian Isles; the Liberal Democrats are the centrist party here and currently the second largest in both the Council and the Senate.

Creslonia has only two political parties: Liberal (centre-left), and National (centre-right). Whilst they are both close to the centre and have worked together in the past, the two separate parties crush any hopes of real centrism. There have been talks of merging both of them into one centrist party (effectively making the Republic a one-party state), but this has been declared unconstitutional many times.

Not at all. Political moderation, and centrism accordingly, are traditionally seen as cowardice in TurtleShroomian culture, be it on the left or right. Failing to take a firm stance on a political issue and flip-flopping or going back on one's word is considered a scandal in TurtleShroom.

Centrism is very prominent in Agarntrop. The largest party (Agarn Democratic Coalition (ADC)) is centrist but could also be described as somewhat centre-left. The 3rd largest party (The Liberal Party) is centrist also. Both are part of the currently ruling centre-left coalition.

It isn't very talked about, but most Ziyuans are centrists. Opinion polling shows that 37% of voters identify as centrist, compared to 24% as moderately right-wing and 22% as moderately left-wing. Parties commonly labelled as centrists in Ziyu are...

  • People's New Party for Reform - a Green liberal and progressive party, in coalition with the Progressives
  • The Republican Party - a liberal conservative and environmentalist party, newly entered the Gukhoe
  • Hwaldong - An economically liberal, pro-nuclear power party, newly entered the Gukhoe
  • Christian Democratic Party - a socially conservative but fiscally moderate party for the Christian minority

In addition to this, the center-left Progressive Party and the center-right Ziyuan National Party both have established moderate wings that can be identified as centrist.

Yes. We pride ourselves on being able to see both sides of an issue (sort of why we gave emergency economic powers to an A.I.).
The government is elected from pools of experts in whichever fields are necessary, with polarizing issues having a minimum quotient for political balance (like abortion rights would be decided by a mix of pro-choice/pro-life expert advocates, for example).

Both the Pawpulist Mew Deal Party (socialy liberal, economically Keynesian and supporting the welfare state) and the Purrservationist Party (green economics and promotion of local traditions and civic engagement) could claim to be centrist. However they would both be considered at most center-left in the rest of the world.

''No, as most of us, along with our leadership, see centrists as ''weak willed'', and ''unable to counter issues decisively'', just like with social democrats, and so called ''liberal conservatives''. However, as Commonwealth is somewhat left economically, but far-right socially, it could be said, that it practices some form of center politics, not having a preference either to far-right, or far-left. Still, SC's leaders dislike the label ''centrist'', and rather identify as ''far-left'', or ''far-right''. (In SC's world, terms ''left'', and ''right'' are purely economical ones, as all ruling parties are right wing socially. ''Left-wing'' is basically strasserists/jucheists, along with national communists, but ''Right-wing'' - corporate fascists, economically liberal juntas, etc. Sometimes national anarchists are counted as ''Right-wing'' as well, mostly due of their opposition to planned economy.)''

No. The Decepticon Way - our official and only allowed ideology - is a combination of far-right (for Decepticons) social ideology mixed with capitalist minarchism that often crosses the line into anarchy. We are also a dictatorship, so promoting anything else is Treason Against the Decepticon Way, and punished accordingly at the nearest foundry.

That said, the above designations are worded in line with Earthian/American definitions. To us, it is just the normal way of doing things, and we don't even use the left/right designation. These terms arose due to how people sat in a parliament in a country on another planet from ours. We have never had a parliament at all, let alone allowed enough un-Decepticon traitors to exist to have a need to give them a special seating block.

By your standards, yes, centrism is prominent in our nation. Fiscally, we have universal healthcare and education, but we also give private businesses room to thrive. Socially, it is generally agreed upon that the government is not here to regulate one's personal life, but keep everyone safe.

Most citizens agree with these concepts, and the political parties are closer to one another on the political spectrum than they are in most other nations.
