Rinpek Parliamentary Elections

Postby Peoples Cities » Thu Feb 28, 2019 8:14 pm

Following a vote rigging scandal and an erosion of popular support the government of Prime Minister Mursk have decided to hold early elections!

100 seats are up for contention with the four main parties hoping to win a majority to form the next government for a five year term. The Choices are:

Democratic Centrist Party:
Leader: Incumbent Prime Minister Harold Mursk (59yo)

The Democratic Centrist party was originally founded in 1979 as the Centrist party of strong man dictator Henry Smitt who ruled from 1950-1988, following his death the party was renamed the Democratic Centrist party and multiple parties were legalized in 1989 in the run up to the first multi-party elections in 1990. The Democratic Centrist Party has won every election since by rigging the votes to ensure victory.
They are currently the ruling party and their policies are to maintain the current status quo. They want to promote greater diplomatic relations with other right wing governments and privatize some sectors of the economy. They are mostly supported by the wealthy upper classes and those wanting stability. Also wishes to lower taxes

Conservative Party:
Leader: George Morgan (69yo)

The Conservative party is a junior partner in the current right wing government of the Democratic Centrists. They want to push for harsher punishments for criminals, increase funding for the justice department and promote family values. They have a right-wing economic philosophy and support privatization of the economy. Also wishes for Rinpek to gain more diplomatic relations with right wing governments. The party controversially has an authoritarian streak with huge praise for the late Henry Smitt. The Conservative party was founded in 1989 when other political parties were legalized

Green Party:
Leader: Aubry Meyers (34yo)

The Green party was founded in 1989 as an ecological and environmentalist party. They want to preserve the city states surrounding forested mountains and limit the spreading growth of the Rinpek City. They also want to decriminalize all drugs to treat it as a health issue instead of the criminal issue. Also want a more rehabilitative justice system rather then a retributive justice system. Also wants to introduce more elements of direct democracy within Rinpek's political system and allow for greater use of referendums for major political issues.

Socialist Party:
Leader: Peter Movek (39yo)

The Socialist Party was legalized and founded in 1989 and has been the main opposition party ever since. The party wants to legalize prostitution to be a regulated and taxed industry as well as reform the criminal justice system into a rehabilitative rather then retributive system. Is closely aligned with the Green Party in environmental policy and is also interested in promoting elements of direct democracy within the Rinpek political system. Also want to promote trade union and workers rights as well as preserve the progressive tax system that is currently in place. The Socialist party has also floated the idea of reforming the constitution of Rinpek to have a more "People Powered" political system and get the influence of money out of politics.

Solidarity With Rinpek's Opposition Movement

Hundreds of thousands of political-hardliners along with some
political-moderates stage a massive solidarity rally in Anjing in support
of Rinpek's Socialist Party as Rinpek holds a parliamentary snap election

In Anjing's central-square, an estimate of around 800,000+ people, mostly political-hardliners along with some political-moderates, attend a massive torch-burning rally as a show of solidarity to the Socialist Party of Rinpek. In the Republic of Rinpek, Prime Minister Harold Mursk and his Democratic Centrist Party have been losing popular support from the people of Rinpek due to a vote rigging scandal as well as discontent from workers. The parliamentary snap election currently being held in Rinpek was meant to happen later in the year but Harold Mursk decided to start the election early instead. While the stratocratic government reaffirms its neutrality to Rinpek's situation, at the same time the country has made it clear that it is better for Rinpek to remain stable and cohesive rather than fall into a bloody and violent civil conflict. During a press conference in Ouyang, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs told reporters than Zhouran will not interfere in Rinpek's parliamentary election and that the country will continue to cooperate with Rinpek regardless of who ever is in power.

Back in Anjing, the tightly-packed central-square of the city has hundreds of thousands of political-hardliners and political-moderates show their support for Rinpek's socialist opposition. While they oppose the Rinpek Socialist Party's policies of legalizing prostitution to be regulated and switching Rinpek's criminal justice system from retributive to rehabilitative, at the same time they strongly support the Socialist Party of Rinpek as a means to "reform Rinpek and free the workers from the shackles of tyranny and oppression". The massive rally started off with attendees lighting their fire torches followed by the mass singing of the Zhouranese patriotic songs Hymn of the National Workers and Land of Our Wealth; the thundering voices of the masses resonating across the central-square, shaking the ground and serving as a reminder to the struggles and sacrifices our ancestors made in building a powerful and prosperous civilization whose history spans several millennia long.

For many nations, massive political rallies with torch-burning and patriotic zeal might not be common, but in Zhouran they're just as common as usual protests. In fact, political rallies in Zhouran, whether it's held by political-moderates or political-hardliners, will most likely devolve into bloody protests as the two opposing sides fight on the streets before gendarmes from the Public Security Corps have to use force to forcibly end any violence. For this pro-solidarity political rally in Anjing, the PSC already has gendarmes on high alert in case violence might erupt. Other than that, everything is at least peaceful, not to mention that another political rally in Anjing, attended by mostly political-moderates as well as some political-hardliners, is currently being held a few hundred meters away as a counter to the solidarity rally in the central-square.

The UASR and subsequently the Communist Party of Albandry, wishes to pledge its full support and solidarity to the Socialist Party. We recognize your nation as a form of democracy and believe that the people are determined to reach Socialism.

If your nation does not reach said Socialism, then your nation's elections may possibly be illegitimate once more and the UASR calls upon the People of your nation to demand freedom from the Capitalist yoke!

Long live the international revolution!

Official Statement of the Socialist Republic of Azerbaijan

Greetings, Comrades.

The Azeri people-masses have watched as the corrupt kleptocrats of the Democratic Centrist clique have gorged themselves on the rightful wealth of the people-masses of Rinpek, and are delighted to see that these parasites have finally been revealed for what they truly are. The Revolutionary League of Workers and Peasants stands firmly in solidarity with our comrades in the Socialist Party, and urges them to stand firm against all who seek to exploit the people-masses of Rinpek. We also note that the corrupt clique of Prime Minister Mursk has historically twisted the democratic will of the people-masses for his own gain, and may well do so again. We therefore urge vigilance, and if necessary, righteous revolutionary fury should they do so once more.

Regards,
The Revolutionary People-Masses of Azerbaijan

The various parties were all mobilizing their members for election campaigning. Peter Movek of the Socialist Party was particularly energized at the announcement of snap elections. In his apartment he began to email blast all of those on the party email list and made preparations with his assistants for some public appearances and rallies.

"Harold Mursk is in a desperate spot, their vote rigging practices have finally come back to haunt them and I'm sure the people will punish them come the election" he said to one of his closest colleagues Lena.

"The early elections will certainly play in our favor" she said

The two quickly drafted up an itinerary of public appearances starting with a rally on Parliament square in the coming days....

The Election Campaigning of the four major parties continued.

Based on current polling:

Socialist Party is polling at 46%
Green Party is polling at 15%

Conservative Party is polling at 27%
Democratic Centrist Party is polling at 12%

If the election were held tomorrow based on these results the Socialist Party would be able to form a coalition with the Green Party to control 61 seats in the 100 seat parliament.
