Hm, where to begin... The autocratic government of the Sultanate, the retention of weapons of mass destruction, the non-signature of various treaties, the refusal of "free trade", the control over 38% of the worlds oil reserves, the way we treat dissidents... and nowadays even the state religion is seen as a threat. The Sultanate, so a foreign major tabloid last week, is "a warlord state stuck in the 17th century, ruled over by the ancient Hamidoğulları dynasty. Sultan Mustapha VI. can have any subject executed at his leisure, launch his nuclear arsenal at the free world and then go to the Serail to rape an innocent peasant girl. He can elevate his pet donkey to the ruler of a continent if he so wishes, or declare holy war against anyone he choses with a billion fanatic islamists at his call."

Reality looks a bit different: the Hamidi Empire is a thoroughly modern state, the provinces are governed by elected assembly and the hareem is purely ceremonial these days. Sultan Mustafa bin Abdülmecid was educated at a modern university and holds a doctorate in economics, and the last Djihad was declared in world war one.

-The Imperial Family still plays a large roll in running the nation.
-We still retain the majority of our colonies with no intention of granting Independence.
-Vocal anti-monarchists are imprisoned or fined.

The international community primarily calls Germany out for its overseas holdings, its economic dominance in Europe and its insufficient support for true democracies. It’s also often criticised for its half-hearted approach to ecology.

Too much hostility to religion. At best, we're called intolerant for being secular humanist; at worst, we're called anti-Semites or Nazis because we don't allow religion in public. It also takes a literal act of Congress to get permission to build a place of worship.

Somewhere along the line we accidentally claimed the legal right to use weapons of mass destruction. People already don't like clowns, so this ain't exactly helping.
She/Her

People tend to assume that Entrance of the Gladiators by Julius Fučík is what that ever so famous circus clown theme is. And it is. Nobody would ever argue with you on this fact.
However, if you want to be an unlikable, pedantic jerk, the song actually known as "circus music" would be a version composed for American woodwind bands (and later transcribed for fairground organs) titled Thunder and Blazes, published by Louis-Philippe Laurendeau.
Of course, this information is of absolutely no consequence to anyone.

Austria was mostly severely criticized for the election of Kurt Waldheim as Chancellor in 1986, following revelations of his service in Greece and Yugoslavia as an intelligence officer for the Wehrmacht during the Second World War.

Assuming the existence of actual international community with similar behaviors as observed IRL,

The Abode of Peace is an authoritarian state, with opaque, ethnocentric, theocratic government. There are no elections, mass media industry is heavily cronyist and dependent on the state, protests are virtually banned, public political expressions in general are frowned upon, activists and dissidents have reported pressure to withhold their criticisms and oftentimes sued by the authorities. Draconian punishments aren't only common, due to the nature of Darussalami legal system they are disproportionately targeted towards the poor and the "pathological criminals". As prisons are nonexistent, crimes are either punishable by fine, servitude, torture, or capital punishment.

The unique nature of legal code and institutional structure of the Abode of Peace makes it a thriving hub for international crime, chiefly drug trade (which is legal and widespread throughout the realm) and human trafficking (while illegal, might be evaded through utilizing the complex system of wala', voluntary servitude). Many have alleged that the ruling family themselves, the Ma'adids, are actively involved in international drug trafficking and illegal sex slavery. It is also a tax haven, and financial secrecy allows the polity's banks to facilitate tax evasion and money laundering schemes. Its status as a tax haven has led to inflation of its RGDP measurement, although not by significant extent relative to its large size.

It is claimed that the ruling elite of the polity perceived the proliferation of liberal democracy and nationalism as "existential threat", and thereby devises foreign policy aimed at covertly containing and subverting such tendencies. In order to supplant the present zeitgeist with a reactionary world order oriented towards religious patriarchy, techno-commercialist capitalism, and authoritarian paternalism, critics alleged that Darussalami leaders have backed propaganda for ideological subversion (better known as Dawa), manipulation of elections, financing of terrorist movements, and many others. This allegation has been formally denied by the Sublime Porte numerous times. Nevertheless, internal leaks have indeed confirmed that the state's arm of religious proselytism is far more extensive than official reports, with activities beyond religious preaching.

While the state has no central enforcement of conventional Shari'a ordinances such as hudud, human rights enforcement in Darussalam are frequently contradictory owing to the ruling elite's ecletic worldview and religious interpretation. Generally, restrictions on individual rights are delineated by private contracts, and owing to the minarchistic nature of Darussalami state individuals typically are bound to many private contracts that abrogate their rights. Privacy, for example, has been mostly supplanted by surveillance and data-mining by private companies. Individuals may also agree to obligations presented by religious courts. Despite most forms of sexual contract being legal, adultery is a criminal offense and unilateral no-fault divorce doesn't exist. Voluntary enslavement, or involuntary servitude driven by debt, are legal and legitimate before the courts. As there is a lack of national labor laws, the condition of guest workers in Darussalam is often appalling.

Relatively high rate of infant mortality relative to its level of development (11.7 per 1000 live births), abysmal welfare programs often conditional upon abrogating free movement or voluntary sterilization, and family laws that encourage inertial orientation for patriarchal status quo are often said to be direct consequences of the elite's eugenic-natalist ambition. While the state officially suppresses nationalist sentiments, it permits if not outright condoning private racial segregation and discrimination.

"Citrejaanijr and its Citrejaanijrej are widely disliked for a grand sense of anarchy which permeates the warrens. The surgeons encourage anyone to cut out evil where they see it. It's led to a pseudo-order of killings and reprisals that focus the anger of the people on powerful groups which harm common people and individuals who seek to harm historically marginalized peoples. The urban warfare that sometimes flares across the land has honed many men and women to be capable mercenaries, and the bombings others as terrorists.

Though many nations have called for intervention to save the nation from itself and to save the battlefields from our people, none can because righteous violence is so entrenched in the culture. The only time an army tried to put down the nation, the nation ceased its reprisals to put them out. It's an almost sick idea of "you can't kill me, only I can kill me'."

What's YN criticised for by the international community?

Postby Technoscience Leftwing » Mon Mar 11, 2019 2:31 pm

We are criticized
1. For the fact that we have banned religious organizations and religious propaganda.
2. But that we do not have parliamentary democracy. Instead, there is a three-step system of decision-making: a group of citizens is putting forward a bill for a general referendum, the ideological Council approves or rejects the referendum decision, the Executive Directorate implements the adopted bill.
3. For the fact that the country allows visits only to friendly foreigners, strict criteria for obtaining a visa (except for tourists in the tourist area).

Not being a democracy. Never mind that we have excellent civil rights and are a great place to live, people always complain that we don't allow them to vote in a moron who will get everyone killed.
The American Empire is a socially progressive absolute monarchy run by the heirs of Emperor Norton. It started off at MT but has rapidly advanced to PMT through interdimensional travel. All NSstats are used, except for tax rate and population. Factbooks are currently under reconstruction.

The Brytish Isles | International Criticism

Postby The Brytish Isles » Mon Mar 18, 2019 2:56 pm

What does YN do that everyone else criticises you for?
Brytain is often the receiver of much international criticism. One of the key criticisms is that Brytain does not respect certain human rights and actively discriminates against certain minority groups. This is exampled by the restrictions the state has placed upon Islam and Muslims. Another criticism is that Brytain cosies up with "dictators" and illiberal leaders, as shown by Brytain’s recognition of Assad’s regime in Syria and its dealings with the USSR and China. It rather rarely intervenes in foreign conflicts as well except when its interests or holdings are threatened by another power. Brytain is also defamed and slandered by more liberal and globalist elements in the West due to its stance on transgenders, immigration and multiculturalism.

Other criticisms include state-encouraged prudishness, labour camps, weakened political opposition and a rising sense of imperial nostalgia amongst the population.

In short, Brytain is criticised for...
  • Disrespect for certain human rights and discrimination against minorities.
  • Recognition of and diplomacy with non-democratic, authoritarian and illiberal states.
  • Non-interventionist stance.
  • Conservative policies on transgenderism, immigration and multiculturalism.

Pre-1955:
A Corporate Republic that exploits others for profits and stringed foreign countries into dependency on Borgovia's vast riches, banking institutions, and contractual obligations. Borgovia was also notorious during wartime that their military comprised mainly of Federal soldiers playing defensive, while the poor, exploited souls fight under the banner, but are led by members of the Corpus: Corporate Elites who run the government. This means they also take in foreigners, either bribery or promise of a new life, to fight for them. They prey on countries with a disgruntled population and enslave nations in economic crises. They also screw over their own citizens by giving very low tax benefits to wealthy foreigners to move into Borgovia and/or invest some way into it.

In short, Borgovia introduced Soft Power to international politics and enslaved many foreign citizens over it, but given the game of politics, their Machiavellianism can only be prevented, not suppressed. AKA, don't destroy your economy because Borgovians know what your angry citizens want to hear. You just have to provide to your people to avoid them being exploited by corporations, or you make sure you don't depend too much on their bankers lest you become the Ottoman Empire: indebted to Borgovian bankers they have to surrender a huge chunk of their economic activity and/or soldiers to Borgovia to pay off debts and interests. You can't aggressively fight Borgovia either because other countries would love to have a better business relation with the world's largest multi-national corporation: The Borgovian government. The fact that Borgovians are mostly Spanish or Italian descent would make it hard for White Supremacists of the time to do much.

Post-1955:
Borgovia is still seen as a Machiavellian nation, it just has a more "reformed" take on it: They're no longer run by a 'Corpus', but are now a "one person one vote" Parliamentary Democracy. However, Borgovia is criticized for its military activities and unpredictable political moves. NATO often has concerns about Borgovia intervening and causing a ruckus on the UN stage when NATO operations in the Middle East cuts into Borgovian interests. Despite Borgovia being mostly aligned with the West, they don't play along to everything that's been done by the West. Oftentimes Borgovia is seen as amicable to the East but also allied with the West: "Bowing to the EU without showing its ass to China".
Was once a ruthless capitalist Corporate State in South America (1800s - 1950s), but has since reformed into a Social Democratic, Federal, Parliamentary Republic whose politics is 90% of my irl views. We're Italo-Spanish-Chinese influenced and thus there's a lot of Chinese and Greco-Roman cultural references.

The world in this nation is changing for the better, current year is 2042.

Call us "Borgovia".
