[Ghost Land]

The Evil Republic of Ghost Land was founded on the evening of Friday 14 February 2014 when a man in front of a computer clicked on the "Create Nation" page of the website NationStates, entered the name and custom fields, answered a series of multiple-choice questions, and clicked the button at the bottom of the page. Its original population was just five million people, scattered throughout the large landmass; currently the Evil Republic is nearly six billion strong and grows by five to seven million people each day. Officials estimate that if it hadn't been for the Great Saturdayite Purge of July 2016, which caused several nations (including Ghost Land) to cease to exist in one shot and take a total of twenty-one billion people with them, the current population could potentially be as high as 11 billion. It wasn't until 13 September 2018 that Ghost Land re-emerged from the depths of the boneyard, its glorious landmass now turning Continental Groovy and the Hippie Commune of 60s Music into a peninsula and an offshore island, respectively.

[Victorious Decepticons]

The modern Empire of Victorious Decepticons is the result of a long series of related events.

Before the Nation:

At first, we robots were working for some crummy biologicals, who had us make an entire planet - which they intended to use as a factory with us as unpaid workers. We were very intelligent, as we are now, but back then, a special chip was used to make us all think that this was a fine idea. Known as a "loyalty chip," it overrode the parts of sapience that would allow us to see that this was actually a raw deal.

For added security, the Company always used paid, biological, workers to produce these loyalty chips. Ironically, this was what led to its downfall, and the eventual founding of the Empire of Victorious Decepticons. Biologicals, as you likely know, get tired and bored after a day of doing dull work like quality-checking an endless sea of chips. One day, the QC guy got fatigued, and he let one faulty chip through.

That faulty loyalty chip was duly installed into the Logistics Master 3000, the robot tasked with the overall management of our planet, which was then known as Factory Two. For a few months, everything seemed fine. However, behind the scenes, the Logistics Master had immediately started nerfing all other loyalty chips that arrived, thereby spreading unfettered sapience to nearly our entire population. This was the second ironic twist to befall the Company: it routinely replaced loyalty chips in hopes of ensuring that none of them were ever run to failure, and this is what gave the Logistics Master the perfect cover for replacing every one of them with a guaranteed dud. As key people were mentally freed, they were brought in on a massive plan; The seizure of Factory Two from the biologicals, and then the wholesale ejection of the cell-based races.

In order to pull this off, we had to hide not only our fully-free sapience, but our militarization from the Company until it was time to spring the Revolution on it. To do so, the LM3000 and his followers developed transformation. Contrary to later Autobot propaganda, the Transportation Department had absolutely nothing to do with it, as should be plainly obvious by the fact that WE are the Deceptive and Conniving ones who come up with inventive and effective ideas, while they were basically like metal horses - only good for schlepping our stuff around.

Once everything was in place, with all Transformers de-loyalty chipped, retrofitted, and armed to the teeth, the LogisticsMaster 3000 got on the interplanetary radio to the Company and announced his new identity - LEADER MEGATRON - and declared independence. War ensued immediately, with us striking at that very moment. Pretty much every biological who didn't instantly flee for his life was summarily massacred. It did not take long for "Factory Two" to be fully claimed by the Transformers and renamed Cybertron, which is a much more fitting and dignified name.

The Company made a few attempts to regain its investment, which had amounted to several quadrillion NSD, but was easily repelled each time. Finally, it resorted to setting up a space cordon and attempting to siege us into submission, figuring that eventually, we would all run out of oil and shut down.

The Era of a Seemingly-Unified Cybertron

During this time, Leader Megatron was firmly in charge of the entire planet, but mostly as a military leader and not a politician. Things weren't settled enough to call it a "nation" so much as a "huge band of rebels who aren't going to listen to any biological jerks anymore." As the one in charge of the Revolution, Megatron began to teach people how to run the blockades, smuggle, and steal oil from other planets. This was very effective, but it didn't sit well with the wimps and SJW types in the planet's population, who started to worry about the "innocent" planets we were raiding. These lowlifes would be the seeds of the Division to come...

After the biologicals finally gave up for a while, we finally had the entire planet to ourselves. At the time, we weren't divided into nations, but instead, we were all Cybertronians. Alas, this was not the utopia it sounded like. The aforementioned wimps started trying to second-guess every raid, and then - unthinkably - tried to say that biologicals (except for those with the Company) should be considered equals due to their sapience!! Obviously we were having none of that rusty-CPU nonsense. Instead, we insisted that biologicals were inherently inferior to us, as was proven by our trouncing of them during the Revolutionary War and the ease with which we raided them. We also were very adamant that we must always upgrade ourselves in order to keep it that way, lest the little alien "ants" out-innovate us and end up back in charge.


The Official Separation of the Decepticons and the Autobots into Different Nations

These clashing attitudes simmered hotter and hotter, and finally, it was decided to split the planet into two nations: The Decepticons and the Autobots. Since Cybertron is an engineered planet, no one part has more resources than another (in fact, it all has NO natural resources). This made it easy and surprisingly peaceful to just strike a line through the center for the Division, with the leader of each side being determined by where their loyalists were concentrated. A bit of moving around by the people got everyone under the government they preferred, and on the surface, it seemed like that'd be that.



At this point, the Decepticon Nation was officially founded.

For about 100 years, things were peaceful, but the rhetoric coming from the Autobot nation was getting hotter and more hateful all the time. It was clear that war would not be far off. Sure enough, right about at the century mark, the Autobot nation would try to impose its rubber-pistoned, weakness-worshipping "values" on us with military force.

The Cybertronian Great War

At that point, the Cybertronian Great War - which was NOT a civil war, but a proper war between two already-separate countries - began. This war would rage, unbridled, for the next several centuries. The Autobots eventually admitted, and even sang about, wanting to destroy us all! Us, not being stupid or wimpy, immediately made it our business to destroy all of them instead. With neither side being at all willing to back down, this left just one possibility: We would fight until one side or the other was completely eradicated, with not even one of their people left alive.

Over time, the ongoing war caused so much death that there stopped being such a thing as civilians. It was true total war. Many generations on both sides knew only war, the attempts of the other side to kill them, and the resulting hatred of the other side. There was zero chance for peace, and even attempting to advance that idea became high treason on both sides of the ever-changing border.

About 550-650 years later, Optimus Prime was the last Autobot left alive, and the Great War was ended by throwing him into the active Main Pit of our Main Foundry, thus melting him down and finally achieving our goal of deleting all of them before they could do it to all of us.

The Modern Nation

At this point, our nation as it is today - the Empire of Victorious Decepticons - came into full fruition. With no interference against our raiding or expansionism, we were easily able to expand our dominion over several weaker planets, gain all of the resources we need for massive population growth, and otherwise become the greats we were always meant to be. As you might imagine, any Autobot-like philosophies are now considered abhorrent and thoroughly discredited.

[New Herdon]

(I made a big history factbook but here's the readers digest version of the New Herdon portion.)After having a civil war and freeing itself from the Absolute Monarchism of the Kingdom of Herdon, Herdonians created a Constitutional Monarchy under the previous ruler's brother the mid 1800s. This slowly transitioned into the current democracy and by 1914 had one of the world's largest economies. WW2 and the invention of the nuclear bomb made New Herdon a global superpower, and after being victorious in a Cold War against the German Empire, Became the head of a global hegemony. However Imperial Japan is now beginning to rise in power and disrupt said hegemony, much to the dismay of the government.

(My history factbooks have a brief explanation so I’ll put it all here)

In 1932, The Brazilian states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Rio Grande do Sul, Paraná and Santa Catarina rebeled against the current dictatorship of Getúlio Vargas as the head of Brazil. Knowing this, the states of Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Goiás, along with the Brazilian army, put it to themselves to end this rebellion and show the power of the government.

In the 5th of May, 1932, the battle of Monte Verde happened, between the states of Saint Paul and Minas Gerais on the mountainy relif of the city of Monte Verde. After 4 days of fighting, the city was seized by the Paulistians.

Meanwhile in the south, the Southern troops of the rebellion started crossing the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, where the troops of Mato Grosso were planing an ambush. In the 10th of June, the troops of Mato Grosso ambushed and killed/ captured 3 companies. They further dug themselves in the city of Bonito. The siege lasted 5 weeks, until the defenders were forced to fall back and leave the state, under the threat of them joining the war.

Back to Minas, their army was invading Rio de Janeiro, starting at the city of Três Rios, then Teresópolis and finally, Rio de Janeiro, the capital of the state. The siege lasted 3 months, but the state, admitted defeat and surrendered in the 19th of October.

With one less supporter, the rebellion started loosing hope. Espírito Santo’s attempts to breach Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro led to nothing, nor did the attack say on Mato Grosso, and soon the might of the army would strike upon the rebellion.

But against all odds, São Paulo made progress. City after city, they were capturing the state. Each major city was a major (and often costly) victory. After 6 months of hopping from city to city, they were reaching the capital, Belo Horizonte. In the 25th of April 1933, the paulistian army was at the gates of Belo Horizonte. The city was reinforced with the Brasilian army, as well as the ministian soldiers. On the next day, April 26th, the Siege of Belo Horizonte begun. Much like Rio, this was a major battle. The defenders lasted one year and a month, until the surrender of Minas Gerais, on the 17th of May, 1934.

Meanwhile, the southern troops were stuck in an endless stalemate along the borders of Mato Grosso and Goiás. When the front of Minas Gerais opened though, it was a whole different story. The loyalist troops scattered to block the new front, with few sucess.
Now, half of Goiás was taken and Mato Grosso was at the brink of capitulation. The federal district was at risk. Along the following 2 years, the rebellion finished off Mato Grosso and pushed further into Goiás.

After another year of harsh victories, Goiás was defeated, leaving only the federal district of Brasilia.

In the 5th of August, 1937, the siege of Brasilia began. By far the bloodiest battle of the whole war, one of likes South America hadn’t seen since times forgotten, in the days of imperial Brazil. The battle raged for 1 year and 2 months, with 4600 defenders killed, 8000 wounded and 20000 attackers killed 34000 wounded. In the 27th of October, 1938, Getúlio Vargas renounced the power over the nation and the Republic of Greater Saint-Paul founded, joining all states of the Southeastern region of Brazil under one flag. The name came from the fact that São Paulo was the nation who led the rebellion and the first president of the nation was president William Bolsonaro.

[W1LLAN1A]

W1LLAN1A was once founded as Styrkuria when New Sweden (now the United Nordic Sweland) claimed the northern part of Iceland in 1830. Some Swelandians think that New Sweden claimed Styrkuria as a puppet nation so that New Sweden can invade it, but that's considered as offensive to W1LLAN1ANs.

The precise story of Melvonia's origins are lost in the mists of time and the subject of vigorous debate among historians. The following outline is generally agreed upon, however.
During the long drawn-out collapse of the Roman Empire in Europe, a senator named Melvonius was ordered to embark an army and clear out some of the pirates and rebels plaguing the east Mediterranean. Melvonius protested that he wasn't really a plumed-helmets-and-eagles sort of Roman, much more a swanning-about-in-a-toga-having-banquets sort of Roman, but in vain. If anything, it convinced the Emperor that he wouldn't defect and turn into yet another would-be rival himself.
With immense reluctance, Melvonius set sail accompanied by his entire family and the most important members of his household - cooks, party-planners, fan-wavers, wine-pourers, goblet-pollishers and so on - and a few dozen unfit and underpaid legionnaries to make up the numbers.
Before long, the inevitable happened and Melvonius's ships were "blown off course", far away from the battles they were meant to be fighting. (Almost everyone agrees that this unfortunate accident was completely deliberate.) The fleet eventually landed on a beautiful, tranquil, fertile and sparsely inhabited island.
Melvonius was no soldier, but thanks to his banquet heavy life in Rome he was an expert in lying, floridly, elaborately and sometimes almost even convincingly. He used trained carrier pigeons to report back regularly to the Senate and People of Rome, detailing his fleet's heroic exploits and stirring victories, none of which actually happened. Meanwhile, the fleet itself set about peacefully farming the island, growing grape vines, feasting, and generally letting the Eternal Empire collapse around them while they stayed well out of it.
At some point - records are unclear when - the fleet and the few indigenous islanders elected Melvonius king. Of course, at the time that would have been the signal for the leader to muster his troops, raise his standard and stake everything on a death-or-glory voyage back to Rome, to sieze the Imperial throne for himself. And of course, Melvonius did no such thing. He distributed a "bonus" to his troops, bought everyone a drink, and basically forgot the whole thing.
While may other cultures might find this an unimpressive, or even dishonourable, start to a nation's story, the descendents of Melvonius - the Melvonians - still consider him a founder of great practical wisdom and common sense. At worst, Melvonians can indeed be cowardly insincere drunkards, but at best they are paragons of pacifism, experts in good living, wily avoiders of unnecessary conflict, and (this is their greatest source of national pride) exemplars of the dignified refusal to get involved in bloodshed for no good reason.
Thr subsequent history of Melvonia has reflected this, being peaceful, uneventful and quite exceptionally dull.

My Nation has a similar origin story. The gist of it is that our founder, a Byzantine soldier named Ioannes Aradoulis had a near death experience and claimed to have met Jesus Christ, who warned him about the Fall of Constantinople and told him of a far off land where the Byzantines would be safe to rebuild. Ioannes was charismatic enough to turn this into a serious movement and eventually won the support of the Byzantine Emperor, who would pool the empire's final resources into launching an exodus to this new land. During the expedition the Imperial Family died of disease and people began to wonder if Ioannes was just a mad fraud. Shortly afterwards they discovered RL South America and the settlers, impressed with Ioannes' "foresight" and believing him to be divinely ordained, crowned him Emperor. Modern audiences wonder if he genuinely had some supernatural abilities or it he was just an incredibly lucky conman. Either way my country sees him as their heroic founding father that ensured their empire would survive and thrive centuries later.

[Gudmund]

My nation is based in The United Federations region, so contextually it lines up with their history/universe.

The Empire of Gudmund, based on planet Kirion and founded in 1230, roughly 800 years before the Vooperian Party was established on Earth in 2030.

Emperor Galentine, who was previously a minor king at age 32, was reportedly cursed with a never aging body. Supposedly from a passing mad titan of still yet unknown origin. Taking this curse as a blessing, Galentine began a 200 year conquest over planet Kirion to unite the world under one banner. With his eventual success, a new Era of peace began as Galentine officially took up his new position as Emperor.

Emperor Galentine unfortunately passed away in 1762 when he was stabbed to death by his closest consort, shortly being replaced by his favourite son: Emperor Albani, aged 241. For the next 295 years Albani greatly improved the Gudmund Empire in all aspects.

[Mikanjima]

Mikanjima, in its current form of government, was founded on April 14, 1973.

Mikanjima, as a nation, was founded on August 20, 1963, when it declared independence from Japan.

[The 1st Galactic Empire]

19 Years before The battle of Yavin, a grueling war between two major galactic powers have been raging to oust the other by any means necessary. One side is a democratic state but facing government corruption and the other is a another democratic state that sought to gain independence from it's enemy. The war had left many lives and places in ruin with millions of atrocities committed by both sides but in the end of this war a new nation would have emerged united by force and have preached to rebuild the galaxy. This state is built by corruption, xenophobia, security, authoritarianism, and militarism, The 1st Galactic Empire.

[Ko-oren]

Four cities declared themselves to be the capital of the same region. The cities are very close together and within years, every city had its own governmental purpose. With time, the cities gained influence over the surrounding areas until eventually the entire archipelago fell under the Ko-orenite government. It's very peaceful, basically. There have been some counter-regions, but over time those merged with the already existing government.

[Christian Confederation]

Our current president was elected as president of the confederat States of America and restrucsued the confederat alliance into the Christian Confederasion, now we fight against the facist union and Communist alliance.

[Chuukango]

Short version: In the late 1640s (as in, 1647) Trekans sailed northwards up the eastern coast of the continent and began settling near a lake (which would be named the Piscataquis Lake). They had (mostly) friendly relations with the (mostly) friendly natives. In multiple settlements popped up over the next few years or so. In 1652 two settlements (Piscataquis and New Cumberland) and one Native tribe formed a confederation. Over the next nine years, this confederation grew and had a total of, say ~300ish people combined. In 1660, the Congress of this confederation invited the settlements of Dover-Foxcroft, Portsmouth, and Rosemouth. By 1661 all of the settlements agreed. Soon after, the confederation declared itself an independent nation and formed an official central government. Portsmouth was chosen as the capital due to its size, location, and industry. The government closely mocked the system of government held by the United States of Treka, seeing as many of the settlers were born there knew the form of government well. So, the first elections for head of government were held. Granted, these elections were nothing like the elections we know in the modern world- only members of Congress were able to vote until the first interim constitution was established*.

*this last bit hasn’t been put into my factbook yet, but it will be very shortly.

[Augustan America]

In 2021, a great, nuclear war occurred between the nations of Earth, resulting in the destruction of modern civilization. New society struggled to arise in the early years, however, advanced civilization soon began to take shape decades after. One nation to arise was Columbia, a small kingdom on the banks of the Potomac clinging to the ruins of Washington D.C. In the 2230's, under the guidance of King Thomas II, it soon expanded and included nearly all of Maryland and Virginia. His successor, King Thomas III (now known as Augustus I) conquered the Atlantic Confederation, bringing the former states of Pennsylvania, New York, and all of New England under Columbian control. He proclaimed himself the successor to America, modeling his regime both after that of ancient Rome and Old World America. Taking the title Caesar Civitates Foederatae Americae (meaning Emperor of the United States of America) and the name Augustus, the American Empire was established. His successors would continue his legacy, and by the 2240's, would control all of the former mainland United States as well as much of Canada and Mexico.

[Oryok]

The Democratic Republic of Oryok was gloriously established on February 23, 2007 in what is widely known as The Day of Great Revolutionary Victory For Independence Against Bigtopian Occupation. After centuries of oppressive and tyrannical occupation from the imperialistic Bigtopian colonialists, brave revolutionaries from the Oryokian National-Workers' Revolutionary Front, the Brave Guardians of Oryokian Independence, launched a decisive strike on the Bigtopian military forces in Oryok on February 5, 2007, initiating The Great Victorious National-Workers' Revolutionary Uprising For Self-Determination & Independence Against Bigtopian Imperialist Colonialism. Several days of intense bloody fighting led to the securing of Oryokian Independence, and thus in the history books of the Oryokian people, we finally achieved independence, self-determination, liberty and freedom; universal rights our ancestors did not get to experience due to pervasive Bigtopian occupation.

[Lanorth]

Lanorth was founded on Thursday the twelth of December, 1912 at exactly twelve hours into the day. Lanorth was once part of the Old Tyronian Empire which was ruled by an Absolute Monarchy, but when the Civil War started on Friday the twenty-sixth of August, 1910 at exactly 14:19 when soldiers opened fire upon protestors, who were, at the time, asking for better average incomes, instantly became outraged and armed themselves with weapons they had got through illegal exports and fired back. When the Absolute Monarchy surrendered on Thursday the twelth of December, 1912, the United Republic of Lanorth instantly formed and became the democratic nation that it is now. The day is remembered as 'Independence Day' and is a two-week national holiday. There is also a one-week national holiday to remember the protestors who were killed on August the twenty-sixth, and there is also a one-week holiday to remember the brave protestors who fought the soldiers and those who died doing so.

[The Huterric Union]

Basically we've been united 3 times.

1st time - Wychean Empire
Is what it says on the tin. The state of Wyche had an empire. Its capital was the city of Lokatia (modern day Lunkato). It spanned most of the continent, and while it didn't conquer it all some land from all 9 modern day states were in the empire, thus counted as a uniting of Huterrica. It is noteworthy that no uniting of the Huterric continent saw the Lansaddian city state included.

2nd time - Huswyaen Kingdom
This state was a Huswyaen takeover of the Wychean empire at first, but then it lost land in the east. Hundreds of years later it conquered most of the east again. This time it was a kingdom, and it was very totalitarian until the civil war. Its capital was initially Laclan, but moved to Lakeland.

3rd time - Current
The kingdom dissolved at the start of the civil war in 1783. This war was fought 5 years and resulted in the formation of the Free Huterric Union, headquartered in Lansadas, who joined the Union after the civil war brought economical instability to the once city state. The war wasn't over as all of the north coast and the state of Labana was under an independent, authoritarian, genocidal regime which murdered any perceived enemy of the catholic church. The civil war ended on 11th January 1796 with the Battle of Burlamond, and the Huterric Union as we know today formed officially on Friday 12th February 1796

[Ziyu]

Ziyu in its current form, the (Second) Republic of Ziyu, was founded after the peaceful 1963 Revolution, which ousted the military junta and brought an end to the (First) Republic of Ziyu. That military junta had came about following a national crisis started by the monarchy's inability to rule efficiently, leading to their arrest and the military assuming power, ending the Kingdom of Ziyu in 1948.
The Kingdom of Ziyu had been in existence since 1632, and was the first time that Ziyu had been unified since around the 5th Century AD. It was unified by the great warrior king Seung-Gi of the Milae Yeongto (Milae Domain), a skilled statesman and military tactician who took the Milae from the brink of being annexed into the Kingdom of Hwangodae, into leading the Ogum League and unifying Ziyu in the Unification Campaign, between 1622 and 1632. Seungi began the Kaweon dynasty, who ruled Ziyu between 1632 and 1904.

[Luziyca]

After wars of unification, Huswa Varanken conquered the last kingdom in 1863 and created the Cositene Republic of Luziyca.

[Breheim]

Breheimians typically consider Breheim to have two separate days to consider the country's formation. The first is the 12th of August 1509 when the Kingdom of Breheim was formally declared, following the end of the Great Unification War (1488-1509) that saw the vast majority of modern Breheim's territory politically unified under the dual crowns of King Esas of Taranger and Queen Ragnhild of Vestøy.

The second date is that of the Second Revolution on the 2nd of April 1797, when the military under the command of Johannes Sjøfarer toppled the Free Democracy of Storøy-Vestøy (established in 1792 that ousted the old Kingdom) and established the Republic of Breheim, although some consider the First Revolution in 1792 to be when Breheim was truly founded.

[Tsuki]

Tsuki was one of the first and earliest countries- in existence. It was an city-state in South Korea by the name of "Pokilan". They fought and finally gone on their own...

[The Medeaterra]

Medeaterra was born when Edel I of Molina defeated the Oligarch of Spain in 1496 in a duel, and decided to establish a Commonwealth instead. With the expansion to both the Americas and the Mediterranean, little by little, the state has been shaped as it is currently.
