National information
Official Name: Republic of Dezevau (Zhiba: dezevauboga) demonym Dezevauni (Zhiba: dezevaubogani [carries the connotation of citizen as opposed to ethnic])
Shortened Name: Dezevau (Zhiba: dezevau) demonym Dezevauni (Zhiba: dezevauni [carries the connotation of member of nation-state])
Requested Location: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/261705259519442945/658681389528514560/unknown.png https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/ ... nknown.png
Requested Population: 127.5mil
Culture: historically urban, mercantile, cosmopolitan, generally humanist culture, influenced by tumultuous but often closely linked city-states of intensive agricultural plains and strongly egalitarian pre-agricultural culture. middling on warm-cool scale, midway between guilt and shame on guilt-shame-fear, moderate-high amount of physical contact unusually, influenced by neighbouring cultures, religions, ethos, trade, etc. considering other stuff, maybe best analogue is pre-Islamic Malay or Swahili
  • Ethnicity: Dezevauni like a good 85%+, significant minority of !Malay who are o p p r e s s e d, other minorities pending speaking with neighbours
  • Religion: significant minorities of Irfan, Sotirianity, etc. but mainly an indigenous not-terribly-organised somewhat alchemical thing called Badi
  • Languages: The national language is Zhiba, specifically Standard Zhiba which is mutually intelligible with pretty much all other varieties. However, !Malay, Gaullican, some kind of sign language and perhaps some others (Kunak?) are official languages of one or more states
Government Type: Federal democratic republic, with the federal states more variant but often using direct democracy; proportional representation per state, written constitution, separation of powers, some socialist stuff+
Head of State: The Vadambu (lit: primary face) is a bit like the speaker of the Congress of Twenties (federal unicameral legislature) and is elected to the position by its members from outside the body; they run debate, procedural matters, and represent the nation symbolically, for example in diplomatic protocols
Head of Government: Premier, title given to party leader of governing coalition/party
Requested GDP Per Capita: 11k nominal
National Overview: antiquity, want to try and work something out with neighbours, possibly agriculture spreading from Djedet. medieval, development of petty kingdoms and city-states, with the latter becoming dominant because of geography and utilisation of rivers, trade position etc. united more or less at times; relations with frontier Kunaks and some invasions from Bahia. colonised by Gaullica later on, fought in the GW, given independence in postwar deal, national leaders took the country in a federal, leftwards fashion. after some hiccups, council communism from Swetania is adopted and modified because it's so popular, with a fairly politically involved populace and a mostly anti-imperialist stance. federalised system of city-based states, somewhat developed.
Military Overview: probably fairly good? perhaps an aircraft carrier or two, but strongest branch is army, with focus on mechanised/armour. unique sort-of-federal system ensures good ties to the political system (though there may be dangers of federalism), well-funded I guess. conscription probably only when needed. nukes? not sure? maybe?

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: some prejudices in the population against, but some native traditions (!hijra type stuff) tie into a modern acceptance movement which gains ground
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: fairly multireligious; there are the usual conflicts associated with that, but it's generally not too bad and people get along, partially owing to syncretism
  • General population's view on atheism: it's alright; only mild prejudices
  • General population's view on abortion: bar those following religions which oppose it (minorities I think), no views particularly really
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): there is more of an urbanist, cultural conception so racism exists but is really not too bad compared to most places; there is however other types of sectarian discrimination so oh well
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: used to be fairly strong inter-state rivalries which often tended to have ethnoreligious flavour, as well as discrimination against those stateless who may have been a little similar to a low caste; less of a thing now, but undertones remain
  • View on immigration into country: not really an issue because it's not much of a thing
  • Women's Rights: pretty good; attitudes tend to be fairly modern, and government promotes the cause
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: generally frowned upon (not fanatically by any means though), cannabis may be a little more socially acceptable than the other two even

Other:
  • Factbook: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Dezevau
  • RP Preferences: eh
  • RP Samples: quod erat demonstrandum
  • RP Intentions: both worldbuilding and newsposting, hopefully, actually being relevantly involved in the region of coius and beyond
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: none
  • Any troubles with moderation?: i've been a very naughty little child
  • Anything else?: hegarangi

National information
Official Name: Democratic Republic of the Walé | Jamhuriyar Dimokradiyye ta Walé
Shortened Name: Walé | the Walé
Requested Location: Location map - Geographical map
Requested Population: 29,586,340
Culture: A religiously and culturally diverse Bahian nation, Walé boasts many vibrant native cultures with significant influences from Badawiya and Euclea
  • Ethnicity: The majority of Waléan groups are Bahian, with the largest being the Mai people at ~50%. Badawiyans form a significant minority, with smaller minorities of Eucleans and Coians present.
  • Religion: Around 80% of Walé practices Irfan, while around 15% are Sotirian (predominantly the Osebo). Less than 1% are Atudite, with the remainder adhering to traditional religions.
  • Languages: Mai (!Hausa) is considered to be the lingua franca of the nation, being the first language of ~30% of the population. -ColonialLanguage- is also a significant lingua franca and official government language. Other significant languages include the !Chadic languages, !Songhay languages, including Sorko (!Zarma), the !Kwa languages, including Osebo (!Akan), and the !Nilo-Saharan languages.
Government Type: Federal semi-presidential republic
Head of State: President Siisi Nsiah
Head of Government: Alheri Harouna
Requested GDP Per Capita: $7,106 (PPP) | $2,474 (Nominal)
National Overview: Modern Walé is a multi-party democratic republic with a strong presidency. The country is divided into states, each with their own legislatures and governors. Walé is diverse both geographically and culturally, with the majority of its population residing in the east, particularly along the coast. This coastal region is considered to be more liberal, particularly in the highly Euclean-influenced Osebo region. Inland areas and the west tend to be more traditional, though they exhibit a great deal of political differences as well.

Historically Walé was never a unified area, with the western and eastern halves having greatly divergent histories. The western half of Walé is intertwined with the history of Djedet, the nomadic peoples interacting with that state for many millennia. The eastern half of Walé has seen numerous states and kingdoms rise and fall, and some areas that lacked the Euclean model of nationhood until the advent of the Hourege system. The initial spread of Irfan, combined with strong Mai equestrian-based culture, saw a succession of empires control the Walé river. The second wave of Irfan, bringing with it societal upheaval, along with the regression of the slave trade in both directions, slowing the economy dramatically, saw the last of these empires fall rapidly to Euclean expansion. Walé came under (Werania or Estmere?) control, until 19??. Since independence Walé has suffered several separatist wars and short-lived military coups, but has largely remained a multi-party democracy to the modern day.
Military Overview: The Waléan Armed Forces perform a multitude of roles, domestically, regionally, and internationally. Domestically they are utilised in three roles: Border security, anti-terrorism, and law enforcement. Regionally and internationally they may assist with peacekeeping operations. The majority of its primary equipment is purchased or leased from foreign suppliers, while secondary equipment is largely produced internally. 2% of the national GDP is allocated constitutionally to the military, though via several legal mechanisms this budget is rarely met.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Legally, LGB people were decriminalised in the 1980s, though same-sex relationships and acts remained technically illegal until 2001, when the old colonial laws were ruled unconstitutional. Trans rights are in a legal grey area, not illegal or criminalised, but lacking vital protections. Same-sex marriage is practised in one state, and civil partnerships in most. Socially attitudes to LGBT issues vary depending on state and in region, with the south-east being considered the best, and the west being considered far less tolerant.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Religion in Walé is largely upon ethno-cultural grounds, with the Osebo and a few groups being Sotirian, and the majority of other groups being Irfanic. As such this largely leaves a lack of interaction and understanding, with the education system being relied upon to enforce the tolerance espoused by the constitution.
  • General population's view on atheism: Atheism is not illegal, but it is rarely socially tolerated, particularly in the north and west. Most Atheist individuals will still identify with the religion they were brought up with. Views tend to be more positive in certain urban areas.
  • General population's view on abortion: Legally abortion is only allowed in the case of rape, incest, and medical issues. Several states liberalised their abortion laws, but in 2012 a supreme court decision overturned their laws in favour of the federal standard.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Bahian Inter-ethnic relations within Walé are quite complex, stemming from ancient right up to colonial-caused issues regarding representation, equality etc. Badawiyan minorities are usually stereotyped as conservative and rural, while Euclean and Coian minorities are either seen positively as educated liberals, or negatively as exploiters (largely Euclean) and wealth-stealing immigrants.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: None that I would label as big, though there are likely a multitude of prejudices between the different ethnic and religious groups.
  • View on immigration into country: Relatively positive, particularly in coastal centres where efforts to draw in educated immigrants is common.
  • Women's Rights: Women's rights have, along with LGBT rights, been largely on the up since the 80s. 2018 was considered a breakthrough year with the first female Vice-President, though campaigners hope to achieve more in the future.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
Tobacco and Alcohol are legal, with the usual caveats applying (though what exactly tbd). All other non-medicinal drugs are illegal and criminalised, with few successful efforts to change largely draconian laws on the matter.

National information
Official Name: Tinzan Empire (Tinzan: དཝ་གྯེ་པ་མྠ་བྲེལཁུལ, tr. dawa gze pa mtha brel khul) / State of Tinza (Tinzan: དཝགྯེཁམྶ, tr. dawa gze khams)
Shortened Name: Tinza (Tinzan: དཝ་གྯེ, tr. dawa gze)
Requested Location: Here; including the island south of the mainland claim. Additionally, I think Yi wants to adjust their northern border due to my claim resulting in theirs being redrawn.
Requested Population: 112 million
Culture: Tinza takes inspiration from a number of East and South Asian sources; while the language is Tibetan, much of the culture is derived from across East Asia, including influences from China, Nepal, Japan and Bhutan.
  • Ethnicity: While the Tinzan people form an overall majority, there are a number of minority ethnic groups. Chief among these are the Xiaodongese, Duljunese and Tavans, who are each concentrated in Special Autonomous Regions (SARs). There are some small migrant communities, mostly located in the larger urban areas, but they do not compare to the immigrant communities in say, Euclea.
  • Religion: Satyism is heavily influential in Tinza; in particular, a sect known as the Cult of Amadawa, which is devoted to the Tinzan national goddess, Amadawa. Folk religion, Sotirianity, Irfan and the Xiaodongese ethnic religion are also present.
  • Languages: Tinzan is the sole official language, and is by far the most widely spoken language in the nation. Since the culmination of the civil war, three minority languages - Xiaodongese, Duljunese and Tavan - have been recognised as official languages within their respective SARs; despite this, however, use of the Xiaodongese language remains stigmatised, and due to the secession/occupation of the Lhogrong region is scantly spoken in Tinza regardless. Yirō is spoken by a small number of communities along the Tinzan-Yi border, but is not a legally recognised minority language.
Government Type: Unitary parliamentary constitutional monarchy
Head of State: Kya II [Tsenmo]
Head of Government: Kelsang Karpo [President of the Nation]
Requested GDP Per Capita: $5,289 (nominal), $13,982 (PPP)
National Overview: Tinza is an ancient civilisation. The Tinzan monarchy traces itself back to the 900s BCE, and claims descendence from the warrior-queen Tselha, who founded the modern Tinzan state, and was - in Tinzan oral history - granted the divine right to rule from the goddess Amadawa. The Tinzan people are believed to also share a joint ancestry with the Rygyalic peoples of Phula, and it is believed that prior to the Duljunese migrations, the two peoples shared a common border. Following the foundation of the imperial monarchy, Tinza experienced a period of ascendance, when Norzin the Conqueror doubled the size of the Tinzan realm, and cemented Tinza as a significant regional power. In the following centuries, Tinza would succumb to rot, and during the modern epoch, would find itself at the mercy of the East. This, combined with number of wars with neighbouring and rivaling Xiaodong, would significantly weaken the Tinzan state. This weakness would lead to the rise of the dictator Drogon Tsering, who was propped up Xiaodong and a local alliance of minor nobles, landowners, and industrialists. Tsering would eventually be overthrown in the Tinzan Civil War (2006-2010), which also saw the occupation of the Lhogrong region by Xiaodong, and heralded the current administration, which instituted a constitutional monarchy. In the modern day, Tinza remains somewhat of an anomoly. It remains an active member of COMSED, though the largest party in its Diet is the broad church radical socialist RLM.
Military Overview: The Tinzan military experienced a shake-up following the conclusion of the civil war. The Righteous Tinzan National Army (RTNA) experienced significant splits over the course of the conflict; while the majority of the officer core remained loyal to Drogon, sizable portions of the soldiery - at times, entire battalions - defected to the rebels. The new government had an arduous task of creating a new national army. The modern day Tinzan National Liberation Army (TNLA) is largely comprised of both ex-RTNA members and ex-RLM militiamen; the integration of these two groups has been, at times, choppy, and the lack of officers led to an unprofessional environment. To an extent, this has largely been remedied; thanks to membership of COMSED, the Tinzan government has been able to embark on an ambitious officer training program, backed by the Senrian military. To this day, however, the TNLA experiences problems when it comes to its nascent officer core. In contrast to the army, the Tinzan Naval Forces (TNF) - with their majority-Tavan officers - essentially defected en masse to the revolutionaries, and as such there was little restructuring following the conclusion of the conflict. Additionally, the integrated airforce of the RTNA was split off, and the Tinzan National Air Force (TNAF) was created as an independent air force. Tinza does not employ aircraft carriers, and though it maintains no nuclear weapons of its own, is generally considered to be under the Senrian nuclear umbrella. The Tinzan government has pushed for Senria to station nuclear weapons within the country, though this is yet to occur, and Senrian authorities have expressed concerns that such a brazen act would do little other than provoke Xiaodong. The post-civil war administration spends above the COMSED requirement for national military spending, with 5% of GDP spent on defence. The role of the Tinzan military in domestic affairs is much reduced in comparison to the military repression of the Drogon era, but a significant presence remains, particularly along the Tinzan-Xiaodongese border, where stringent border checks are commonplace. In regional and international affairs, the Tinzan State Security Forces are considered one of the cornerstones of COMSED's military might, with the TNLA comprising of just over one million active personnel, second only to Senria in sheer size, though this number has been decreasing over time. As such, Tinza competes with Mathrabumi as second power within COMSED.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Transgender women generally face less discrimination in Tinza than in other countries, as the country is one of few to have a recognised third gender enshrined in its culture. This third gender was also granted legal recognition by the post-civil war government. Despite this, transgender women are still discriminated against if they claim to be a woman and not part of this third gender, and transgender men are heavily discriminated against. Rights for other 'sexual minorities' are few and far between, though the new government repealed several Drogon era anti-homosexuality laws. Same-sex marriage is not conducted within Tinza, but the government has passed resolutions which recognise same-sex marriages conducted outside of Tinza; these are rarely recognised at local levels, however.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Generally positive. Tinza itself has a great deal of religious diversity, and syncretism is common. Though there has been some historical religious grievances, these have largely dissipated. The Xiaodongese ethnic religion remains prejudiced against, however, and religions which outright deny the existence of Amadawa can be frowned upon.
  • General population's view on atheism: Historically frowned upon, with atheists are seen as possessing lower moral character. The ascendance of the RLM has led to a slight reversal in these attitudes, particularly in urban areas, but rural regions remain skeptical of atheism and agnosticism, and there is some low-level discrimination against atheists in these areas.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is usually recieved negatively, though the exact level of societal stigma against it grows with the development of the fetus. The RLM government legalised late-stage abortion, but has not undertaken a program to try and change attitudes towards abortion, as has happened in other social areas.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Generally, there is a strong sense of Tinzan nationalism among much of the population, but due to historical ties and recent events - including the crucial efforts made by the Duljunese Banners and the Tavan Navy in the overthrow of Drogon Tsering - there is a strong sense of camraderie from the Tinzan majority towards the Duljunese and Tavan minorities. The Xiaodongese minority is largely viewed with suspicion, in part due to the historical enmity between the two states and in part due to recent events, and are often accused of being spies for the Xiaodongese state.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Xiaodongese speakers and nationals are viewed with immense suspicion, and are heavily discriminated, despite the nominal legal recognition of the Xiaodongese language. Further, supporters or collaborators with the Drogon regime are also generally seen as "enemies of the people".
  • View on immigration into country: Most rural people are suspicious of outsiders, but migration to these areas are rare. In the urban areas, such as Ladumra, immigration is treated differently depending on the immigrant. High-skill migrants are generally welcomed, in part due to support from the regime, but lower-skilled migrants are generally viewed as economic competitors, particularly by the large migrant worker communities.
  • Women's Rights: Outside of the monarchy, which is matrimonial and enatic-cognatic, views toward women have been traditional until the overthrow of Drogon Tsering. The incumbent government has worked to promote gender equality, with half of the government cabinet comprised of women, and the government promoting egalitarian campaigns. On the whole, these have seen some successes, but the rural portions of the nation remain conservative when it comes to women's liberation.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:

Postby Munkcestrian Republic » Thu Dec 26, 2019 2:21 pm

National information
Official Name: Munkcestrian Republic
Shortened Name: Munkchester
Requested Location: An island, somewhere near Estmere (or maybe Buckland) b/c English.
Requested Population: ~265,000
Culture: North East English.
  • Ethnicity: Geordies. There used to be an oppressed Mackem minority.
  • Religion: Solarian Catholic, with Amendist minorities.
  • Languages: The Geordie dialect of English, but "standard" English has a "higher" status.
Government Type: Theocratic republic
Head of State: Ricard Hawdon, Bishop of Munkchester
Head of Government: Nicol Fyssher, Prolocutor
Requested GDP Per Capita: $103,647 (PPP). This is not what the average citizen earns, because that is average income, and it's this high because Munkchester is a tax haven.
National Overview: Back in the 7th century some monks came along and settled on the island. A while later, to defend the place from visiting raiders, they built a castle. Eventually, they got a bishop. The bishop was forced by the burghers to give up most of his power, but he's still head of state.
Military Overview: Close to non-existent, but there are a few rescue lifeboats and some people have guns.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Generally negative. Homosexual activity is illegal (but not actually prosecuted) and same-sex marriages are banned. Transgender people would probably be considered crossdressers by most people.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Religions that have been around in Munkchester for a long time are generally okay. More recent arrivals to the island, not so much.
  • General population's view on atheism: Tolerated.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is illegal, as is birth control.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): There aren't any.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Mackems.
  • View on immigration into country: Limited, and non-integrated immigrants who don't contribute are very much disliked.
  • Women's Rights: Society is strongly patriarchal.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Banned.

National information
Official Name: Republic of Tusania (Toosani: Jamhuuriyadda Toosiyanka; Badawiyan: جمهورية توساني; Weranian: Republik Tusanien)
Shortened Name: Tusania
Requested Location:Location Map | Geographic Map
Requested Population: 31,839,329
Culture: Culturally the entire nation can be considered to be equivalent to the IRL Horn of Africa with all of the various different cultures and ethnic groups to be considered therein, though Somali and Arab are by far the most dominant of the two. There is also a good degree of ethnic and cultural spillover from neighboring/regional nations such as Djedet and Walé. There are also some vague aspects of French (Gaullican) and German (Weranian) culture that are mainly presented in some architecture and the societal structures (i.e. education, legal code, etc).
  • Ethnicity: Toosani (Somali) is the majority ethnicity, making up roughly 65% of the country's total population. The second-largest ethnic group by percentage are the ethnic Badawiyans (Arabs), owing largely to the expansive maritime history of the region, who make up 15% of the population. The third-largest unified group are the Mai (!Hausa) people who are primarily concentrated in the central and southern interior of the country and makeup 10% of the population. The remaining 10% of the population is divided between other miscellaneous ethnic Bahian who makes up around 5-6% of the population, and the "Kuwa Haray" -- descendants of Eucleans, predominantly from Gaullica and Werania -- who make up an additional 4-5% of the population.
  • Religion: The dominant religion of the country is Irfan, which is adhered to by 70% of the population, of which they are almost all Sunni. The second-largest practiced religion is Sotirianity, which is practiced 25% of the population and are predominantly Solarian Catholic, owing almost entirely to colonial influence. Finally, the remaining 5% of the country is split between those who still practice the indigenous religion, are atheists, or follow another religion. However, amongst the religious there still remains a healthy amount of indigenous mysticism which has essentially merged with all practiced faiths, resulting in many Sotirian Christian and Irfanic rites having elements of indigenous religions mixed. The influence of which really depends on where you are within the country. On the whole they still follow the dogmas of their religions.
  • Languages: The primary languages within Tusania are Toosani (Somali), and Weranian (German), which are spoken by the majority of the county as well as being taught within schools. Toosani is the primary language, being spoken in the majority of the country, and is used internally for communications. Weranian is used as the primary lingua franca for government functions, and holds equal standing to Toosani. Gaullican is also spoken throughout the country, as it was de-jure administered by Gaullica until the end of the Great War, but its prevalence is significantly less than Weranian and it is only optionally taught in secondary schools and in colleges. Badawiyan (Arabic) and !Nubian (Nilo-Saharic) are secondary languages for the vast majority of the population, though they are largely confined to the arid deserts of the country's west. The final language of note is Mai (Hausa), which is largely taught unofficially by members of the Waléan diaspora.
Government Type: Federal multi-party semi-presidential parliamentary constitutional republic
Head of State: President Siyaad Geyre
Head of Government: Prime Minister Kulane Xirsi
Requested GDP Per Capita: $1,985.50 (Nominal); $5,535.00 (PPP)
National Overview: Tusania has long been under the control of a series of clans for thousands of years, many of whom have either formed independent polities of their own or have paid fealty to more powerful rulers from the Bahian interior. The clans of the region would finally unify under the Sultanate of Damaxato in the 15th-century. Trade relationships with both Euclean powers such as Gaullica and Werania, as well as with the rest of Coius as a whole, would see the region become moderately prosperous due to maritime history and expansive regional maritime trade. The sultanate would remain stable and prosperous until the mid-19th century when, following a period of unrest and a war against burgeoning imperialism, it was systematically dismembered by both Weranian and Gaullican forces and incorporated into each nation's colonial holdings as part of the colonies of Adésine, Dacie, and Weranian Bahia. The beginning of the Great War would have the region see much fighting between Weranian and Gaullican forces throughout the conflict, though Gaullican forces would take full control over the region as part of its larger campaign in Bahia and Coius. This perod would see the Toosani people significant hardship under their new colonial masters due to their policies of forced Gaullicanization of the region, as well as forced conscription into local paramilitaries. Chaos would reign within the region, however, after the collapse of Functionalist Gaullica in 1935. A lack of orders from Verlois would lead to some Functionalist forces to surrender, while others would continue to fight as resources would allow and require the invasion of Weranian "pacification forces" in order to restore order. Following the region's successful pacification, it was designated a Community of Nations Trust Territory of Tusania under Weranian Administration. A local independence movement would quickly come into existence, prompting a forceful response by the Weranian administrators and the beginning of the Tusani Bush conflict. Slow and hard-fought gains by pro-independence fighters, as well as the fear of the region falling to a radical Bahian socialist regime, would bring the administrative government to the negotiating table with moderate rebels and result in the Haraqoray Agreement. The agreement, which would see the independence of the region as the Sultanate of Tusania in 1955, also maintained and enshrined Euclean economic and political interests. It ultimately failed to satisfy the demands of many rebels who declared the Sultanate to be a puppet government and worked tirelessly to undermine its authority.

The rising tensions between the population and the ruling clans and tribes, as well as the mass introduction of the ideals of Bahian socialism, pan-Bahianism, as well as Irfanic socialism and political Irfan to the region, resulted in riots, strikes, protests, and general unrest which culminated in the Tusani Revolution by socialist revolutionaries in the Revolutionary Socialist Union in 1967. The revolutionaries, known as the Golaha, would found the Tusani Socialist Republic that same year. Though initially ruling benevolently, economic stagnation and increasing political unrest led to the Golaha to become increasingly repressive and manipulative in their attempts to maintain control, using coercion between the clans in order to secure loyalties. Protests calling for reforms and a subsequent crackdown sparked a mass civil uprising that would eventually morph into a multi-sided civil war, which would see much of the country fragment along clan-based, ethnic, and religious lines. The civil war would largely end in 2009 with the signing of the XXXX Accords, though some groups, particularly Irfanic terror groups, refused to demobilize and have since vowed an insurgency against the government. Since then the country has become a relatively stable semi-presidential parliamentary republic, albeit one which struggles to maintain democracy within its institutions, which has been overseen by President Siyaad Geyre and Prime Minister Kulane Xirsi and the Union for National Development since the end of the civil war. Some NGOs have accused the government of authoritarian tendencies as well as corruption by the ruling party, though accusations of corruption are flatly denied by the government and any denial of freedoms is brushed aside as being "necessary for national security and interest" due to internal instability.
Military Overview: Tusania is, given its recent return to peace, more of a regional power at best. It was previously militarily powerful and proficient for its size and area, but this prestige has largely collapsed as a result of a twelve-year civil war. It currently still has a large military for its size, with around 500,000 active soldiers and an additional 450,000 reservists, though the vast majority of them are utilizing outdated or surplus equipment. The Navy and Air Force are likewise underfunded and are dependent on outdated or surplus equipment. Overall national and military security is also aided by the Community of Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Tusania (CNMISMT), wherein a force of TBD trains, patrols, and conducts security operations alongside the Tusani Defence Forces. A major goal of the government is to improve and strengthen its military might in order to successfully pacify the country.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Nontraditional marriages and relationships are both highly illegal and frowned upon. Rights are as far as the person who finds out/locality is willing to allow, though this is generally not very far at all. Most pro-LGBT+ organizations are fighting to reduce prison sentences and see the end of sex-based honor killings, so full rights are a bit far off at the moment.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: The government is officially Irfanic, but maintains rights and freedoms for other religions. Other religions are generally tolerated and respected by the population, though the deeper into the interior one goes the more this changes. There is also an undercurrent of radicalism amongst some which has caused violence both in the past and present day. The government officially condemns these acts of sectarian violence and terrorism, and actively uses both civil and military means to combat the groups causing them.
  • General population's view on atheism: Atheists are seen as immoral and are almost always passed over for private, non-government jobs. The government officially does not discriminate against atheists, but atheists frequently will be passed-over for government jobs. However, there are no laws on the books criminalizing atheism and, like non-Irfanic religions, the government attempts to protect atheists from violence.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is illegal except in instances where the mother's life is in danger, the baby would die due to a birth defect shortly after birth, or in instances of rape.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Most other races are seen as "alright," in the sense of lacking active hatred, if a bit odd for being outsiders. Arabs are seen as conservative but industrious, while !Nubians and other Bahians are seen as a bit backwards. Racial violence does occur but is somewhat rare. Tribal and clan-affiliation are seen as far more important, and there really isn't a classification for those who do not fall within the system besides general "outsider."
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Weranians are seen as "the old oppressors" by much of the population, though the government keeps tensions down as best as it can. Gaullicans are seen in a somewhat better light but are still viewed with suspicion.
  • View on immigration into country: A mixed bag, varying wildly depending on where one is. In the interior of the country, where jobs are largely based on herding and are sparse, immigrants are not looked upon highly. In the cities and along the coast, where jobs are more plentiful, there is a higher opinion of immigrants. In general, though, the population takes a "Tusani first" approach, preferring those born in the country or who have ancestral ties to the region.
  • Women's Rights: Women have a surprising number of rights, for an Irfanic country, and are allowed general participation within society. However, as with all things, this largely depends on where one is. The interior is far more conservative and pushes a more strict interpretation of Sharia law within the law code. The cities and coastal regions allow for female participation in society that is, in some areas, on par with males. It strictly depends on where one is and the overall culture of the area.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are legal, though there are restrictions (of which I haven't fully considered) on who can buy them and when. Other drugs are officially illegal, though some such as hashish are unofficially seen as more of a "cultural norm" and so enforcement is lax. Hard drugs are strictly illegal, and the discovery of possession or distribution almost always incurs harsh fines.

Other:
  • Factbook: Some of the info needs to be updated, I think.
  • RP Preferences: Character-driven and Worldbuilding, but I can do post losses if I really need to.
  • RP Samples: I'm not sure what you mean. What's an RP Samples?
  • RP Intentions: To play the role of a vaguely undemocratic and somewhat corrupt government that everyone has to also put up with because the alternative is absolute chaos, as has been previously demonstrated. I also intend on using what little international advantages the nation has in order to leverage more clout and influence
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Nuxica
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): I've been a very good boy.
  • Anything else?: Nope, that's about it to be honest.

National Overview: The Republic of Sathkali (Sathkalic: तन्दल्संगम् सथ्कलय्), commonly referred to as Sathkali, is a sovereign state in the Coian subcontinent of Hyndana, It is bordered by Subarna to the south-east, Ajahadhya to the south, and (The potential naxalite state) to the west. Sathkali has an estimated population of approximately 94 million. It is divided into 18 provinces and four cities of provincial importance, which are further divided into Zamindars. The capital city of Sathkali is Bustanpur, which is also the largest city.

Continuously inhabited for millennia, Sathkali is often referred to as a centre of early human development and cradle of civilisation. The heart of the Adya civilisation, it saw the rise of several early empires and the emergence of the Adyan culture which would go on to dominate the Hyndanan subcontinent. From this culture arose the first forms of the Aryavedic religion, which spread across Hyndana and influenced the development of Satyism. Sathkali eventually broke off as a unique nation state during the middle ages, with its position isolated from the rest of the Hyndic world by the fortified mountains. Sathkali's role as centre of the Aryavedic religion led to its growth as a locus of Hyndic philosophy and sciences, while its successive monarchs augmented the nations wealth through trade and conquest. This prosperity was ended by the colonial period, which saw the land invaded by Etruria and colonised. Colonialism lasted until the Treaty of Keisi in 1935, with the Chandist faction of the Green Pardals led by Shubha Chand taking power. The new government soon set about creating their vision of society based around religious and socialist doctrines.

In the modern era, Sathkali is an authoritarian state. All political power is controlled by the Rally of National Consciousness, which follows the ideological teachings of Shubha Chand. Political opposition is limited, while freedom of the press and freedom of speech are threatened. The Sathkalic economy is moderately developed, with social programs and economic policy centred on communalism resulting in wealth equality in return for a degree of stagnation.

Military Overview: I'm not good with military stuff so lets just say more or less on par with neighbours and focused on defence and spreading the revolution.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Accepted, though often shown scorn for stereotyped effeminate lifestyles
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Irfan and Sotirianity aren't popular, though communities do exist
  • General population's view on atheism: Rare and seen as a bad thing
  • General population's view on abortion: Considered to be murder, those who get abortions are shunned
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Racism is not widespread
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Handicapped people are mistreated as it is seen as karmic punishment for past lives
  • View on immigration into country: In favour as long as cultural values respected
  • Women's Rights: Officially equal to men, but sexism is still a big thing similar to IRL india
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
Widespread use of alcohol and tobacco, the rest are illegal but weed is pretty accepted

Other:

Minilov's applicattion

Postby Minilov » Sat Jan 04, 2020 10:58 am

Hello and thank you for considering this application. Most of this information about this nation is contained in the IIWiki factbook. https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov I will summarise it here as well.

National information
Official Name: Republic of Minilov
Shortened Name: Minilov
Requested Location: Anywhere that fits these condition: cold climate, some mountains, Slavic-Orthodox neighbours. I have no problem with being landlocked.
Requested Population: 6,2 million and declining.
Culture: Minilov is a small Slavic republic comparable to Slovenia, with political and economical similarities to Croatia. Geographically it is landlocked, comparable to Hungary.
  • Ethnicity: Minilovan (82%), Erquinian (12%), Maldanian (6%). This can be updated to fit whoever will be my neighbour. There is a minority in Spajanje (Ljubimaca province) who are seeking independence.
  • Religion: Either irreligious (post-communist at 70%), Orthodox (17%), or Muslim (14%). See: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov#Culture
  • Languages: Minilovan is the official language, based on Croatian.
Government Type: Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Republic. See: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov#Government
Head of State: President Mr Yaroslav Miher. See: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov#Current_Cabinet
Head of Government: President of the National Assembly Mr Aurél Blago Bohumil. See: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov#National_Assembly
Requested GDP Per Capita: Below average at $45 806 PPP. See: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov#Economy
National Overview: Post-socialist breakaway nation. Struggling to get its act together. People enjoy the new-found liberties while also having a nostalgic memory of "old times". People frequently go on strike, for example the transport unions. Traces of previous sovereign states go back to the Middle Ages, but nothing earlier. See: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov#History
Military Overview: The Minilovan military is underfunded and mostly incompetent. They've gotten by on luck only. But any real conflict would prove fatal very quickly. No aircraft carriers or WMB's. A potentially good but small air force. As for expenditures, I'm looking at the 1.75% by RL Croatia. See: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov#Military

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Neutral. There was a pride parade, but hardly anyone showed up. See: viewtopic.php?p=36078952#p36078952
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one:
  • General population's view on atheism: Positive since most people are irreligious.
  • General population's view on abortion: The general public is leaning negative, since the population keeps shrinking. But there are no conservatives in government so this issue isn't being debated.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Derogatory views on those half-Minilovans from Spajanje.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Nepotism is good if you need to get things done. Post-communist distrust of anything that reeks of socialism.
  • View on immigration into country: The population is shrinking so skilled migrants are welcomed.
  • Women's Rights: Progressive stance although this requires mandatory quotas.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are tolerated. Everything else is not. But the government is ineffective at stopping this.

Other:
  • Factbook: https://iiwiki.us/wiki/Minilov
  • RP Preferences: Sequential news stories centred on character development.
  • RP Samples: 129 weekly news posts available at: /search.php?keywords=minilov&t=350014
  • RP Intentions: I enjoy worldbuilding, creating visual materials, and some light RP with relevant neighbours.
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: My WA nation is Orioni 2 in Eurth.
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): No, not for the last 15 years. :)
  • Anything else?: I've decided to join Kylaris on invitation from The Kingdom of Glitter.

National information
Official Name: The Plurinational Confederation of Nezquia.
Shortened Name: Nezquia
Requested Location: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/ ... 53/map.png
I can be anywhere in the region I shaded or outside the region, all I really care about is the optimal humid subtropical climate for subtropical rainforests and tree savannas; being landlocked isn't a problem but not having that sweet, sweet yerba mate is.
Requested Population: Anything around the ballpark of 17 million to 11 million would be correct, I assume, I say I take the centrist approach and go for ~14 million.
Culture: Contemporary Nezquian culture is the result of the fusion of the pre-colonial Nezquian and Gaullican cultures that have preserved the traditions of their ancestors in clothing, language and lifestyle. In Nezquia there are about 2 native ethnic groups, ethnic groups that in many cases retain their traditions, cultures and languages. Nezquia presents in all its cultural variants an enormous indigenous influence.

Nezquia has a rich linguistic variety as a result of its multicultural status and the historical official language being Gaullican which was widely used as the language of commerce and government affairs. The most prominent feature of the Nezquian languages is the persistence of the indigenous languages along with Gaullican, around 94% of the population speaks two languages or more. The interaction amongst the different peoples has shaped the Gaullican language and "creolized" its Nezquian dialects.
  • Ethnicity: Nezquian natives are the majority (similar to Tupi-Guarani peoples), amongst those the majority is Hiʻe or Hiqueyen. There is a smaller yet significant group of Gaullican creoles.
  • Religion: The Gaullican influence has made Solarian Catholicism become the faith of the majority of the creoles and even some natives, but amongst the first-nation Nezquians the most common religion is a type of animistic pantheism. This has changed since the times of the revolution, as institutionalized and organized religion began to fade in common life, today the majority of Nezquians identify as atheists or agnostics.
  • Languages: The plurinational status of the country has and the decentralization of most public aspects of life has conserved languages for the different people groups, the creoles (who form about 15% of the population) mostly speak a creolized French, although most are also bilingual and speak one of the Nezquian languages. Since Nezquian peoples are divided in two ethnicities, the Hiqueyen and the Solian, they each speak their own languages (Hiqueyen Nezquian is the most widely spoken variety), however many indigenous peoples can speak French as well. This has created a divide between commerce and international communications from the average communications seen in everyday life.
Government Type: Libertarian socialist anti-capitalist confederation under a non-partisan consensus democracy.
Head of State: None per se, de jure there is no head of state, de facto the head of government would be the biennially elected legislature which is comprised of 705 seats, there is no head of state however. There are 27 bodies of the legislature supervised and represented by three individuals each, these people take care of the various aspects of the Confederation, they practically carry out the executive function of the country in their specific body. There is no head of state essentially.
Head of Government: The legislature and the 81 individuals that are elected bieanally for office in one of the 27 bodies. They each carry out the functions for the executive role but they focus solely on their specific body, i.e. the three Chairpersons of the Body of Defense can't order or infringe the consensus making process of the three others in the Body of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs.
Requested GDP Per Capita: $17.006
National Overview: Nezquia is a nation shaped a history of aboriginal peoples and the colonization of some "Old World" explorers (the Gaullicans), optimally they will be Hispanic. I have somewhat created my own ethnicity with their own culture and language for the indigenous "Nezquians", yet it remains quite similar (despite the differences) to what one would associate with Guarani and Tupi peoples, differences are nonetheless present. Firstly, the native Nezquians have a sophisticated agricultural system; maize, cassava, mate, guarana, beans and squash are not only cultivated in small gardens by families, but fire-fallow cultivation is also used for larger-scale agriculture. Secondly, the indigenous Nezquians have organized their society with a set of chiefdoms and polities, complex policy amongst these states extended through the statuses of alliances, vassalage, warfare, expansion and rivalries. However it is clear to denote that the state of war along with the rivalries that they required weren't as common as trade; trade is a key component for these chiefdoms allowing for small cities and towns (centers of commerce) to exist, meddling with trade routes and resources was the most common prelude to conflict. The results of trade were highly positive (e.g., a logo-syllabic writing system arose from the necessity to transcribe trade relations into the written word), yet it was commonplace for hierarchical systems to stratify the society.

The offensives for dominance over the Nezquian peoples ensued in an alignment of dozens of chiefdoms to halt the expropriation, the pillaging, the massacring, the torturing, the deposition of trade allies, and the insults by subversion and assimilation in part from the colonists. This coalition proved to slow-down the imperialistic ambitions of the colonists. The decentralization and the intelligence over the terrain from the Nezquians as well as the disease and geographical boundaries protected the Nezquian coalition for 40 years the inexorable capitulation. Colonists committed plenty of horrors: slavery was institutionalized, torture was on the loose, confiscation of the Nezquian's belongings and lands to the colonists' hands was encouragingly lawful, Nezquian natives were forced to migrate in an exodus to segregated zones; many died from a lack of necessities and many others died from diseases mostly from the "Old World". Geographical segregation and laws on racial segregation were part of Nezquian society till the mid 20th century. Slavery constituted an important source of social instability, not only because of the frequent manifestations of rebellion of the slaves, both individual and in groups, but because the repudiation of that institution gave rise to conspiracies of abolitionist purposes. The cautious reformism promoted by some freemasons and the wealthy creoles found continuity in an equally reformist liberalism embodied by prestigious intellectuals linked to the Nezquian sector of large landowners. Under the coincident influence of these emancipatory deeds in the nation and the a hiatus back in the colonial motherland, Masonic lodges and secret societies proliferated on Nezquia. The consequences entailed were an independence movement by creole landowners to free Nezquia during the early 20th century, this Independence movement was shaped by liberalism's advocacy for a premise that'll develop the individual's personal freedom and, from it, for the progress of society; these values were also shaped by other political concepts such as republicanism, the promise of an independent Nezquian unitary state, a presidential system, a representative democracy, and a constitution. This independence movement was supported by the native Nezquians, many which fought and partook in the operations for liberation, but once self-determination for all Nezquians was achieved most of those that compromised with the colonial government for a settlement for peace were creole landowners with significant affluence.

The republican government that was proclaimed after the fall of the colonial regime was the closest thing to a dictatorship that can be known, and the new constitution that was proclaimed supported thia. The new "Magna Carta" abolished some of the restrictions that at the time of the colonial regime limited the vote to people who had some type of wealth, on the other hand only literate men were allowed to vote, something that contrasts with the fact that the majority of the population was illiterate. The truth was revealed for those that suffered most under the conditions of the new republic, the independence of Nezquia was an essentially bureaucratic movement, which did not mean an immediate improvement of the general living conditions of the Nezquian people, rather, it was promoted mainly by the economic elite of the region to be able to enrich themselves with the new commercial ties that were expected to be acquired, and not so much by the political separation itself. During the fifties things changed after the right to suffrage for all citizens was legalized, this later brought up a government of social-democrats into power. The president at the time was of mixed race, he was the first president elected in free elections in Nezquian history, his aim was to reinstitute the values of liberalism, freedom and equality from the independence war into the his time, he ran for presidency under this promise. Some of his actions were encouraging arbitration between businesses and unions, leading an antitrust investigation, granting equal property rights for all people, conserving wildlife, ensuring better conditions for workers with better pay, shorter hours and two day weekends, abolishing gambling and gangs, trying to diminish the prostitution rampant in the country, funding education and healthcare, backing a welfare system, and securing an agrarian reform which nationalized the sector. This president's government interposed on the economic interests of foreign elites, multinationals and other companies. In the end, the government was ousted in a coup a year after the president's second term, this coup was subsidized and succored by foreign governments but mostly by PMCs from the companies in Nezquia that were there before the government of social-democrats.

The coupist government bought back many of the ways of life before the progressive president, yet things changed two or three decades later when a revolution of militant anarchists and other libertarian socialists rose to power. This revolution was lead by an ambition to democratize society for once and instill the value of "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" as well as an appeal to abolish unjust hierarchies; certainly many of the revolutionaries promised they'd bring back the radical stances from the progressive president and the rights for not just the working class but those affected over their Nezquian indigenous heritage, sexuality, gender, and various other identities. Intersectionality was a main stance amongst this revolutionary government.
Military Overview: The Revolutionary Army of Nezquia is small and it's compromised in its entirety of militias, some of these are more equipped and better trained than others, all combatants are volunteers, no one is forced to join the army. The commanders of the units, the members of the General Staff and the the Body of Defense, and in general those that occupy important positions, are to be elected or accepted by the combatants of the respective unit and by the army as a whole. All discipline rules are drawn up by revolutionary commissions and subsequently validated in military assemblies. Once established, they should be rigorously observed under the personal responsibility of each combatant each commander. Equipment is outdated but small to medium in quantities, Nezquia posseses no WMBs nor aircraft carriers. The military is seen as a relique of the past, a menagerie of the instruments of warfare from the dictators from the past; the expenditure on militaristic arsenal is seen as a waste by the public, as more than 80% voted to lower the military budget in 2000, for these reasons the military budget is a fraction of the accumulated expenditure of the nation. After the revolution the military began to fade to a ceremonial role. These days the defense of the nation relies on the denizens of the country which are exhorted by the government to bear arms as part of their campaign to rearm the proletariat.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: As part of of the constitution all sexual orientations and genders are recognized and validated, folks of this kind are protected as are all other members of society with their inalienable rights. Conservative and traditional fanaticists are a minority, yet these people, typically white upper-class Gaullicans, have had periods during Nezquian history in which they were in power, the revolution overturned the systems of oppression and succeeded at extending protections for the LGBT community. Today some members of the legislature designate themselves the label LGBTQ.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Organized religion is usually shunned from the public discourse, anti-clericalism has provoked many believers in faiths and other spiritual followers to abolish hierarchical systems within religion rather than the concept of faith itself.
  • General population's view on atheism: Most of the population is a flavor of agnostic or atheist. Disbelief in deities has often been endorsed by public figures. Secularity in government is seen as a key component of democracy by virtually all citizens. Some public circles propose that true liberation won't be achieved as long as irrationality and misunderstandings about causality and science run in the veins of a society; these people are often secluded to no more than their spheres of influence.
  • General population's view on abortion: The practice of voluntary abortion in Nezquia is not illegal. It is an institutionalized health service, so there is a significant number of hospitals and other accredited units for this procedure with duly qualified and trained personnel.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Plurinationality is the framework of a society for all humanity, most Nezquians view the equality of man on the basis of race as paramount for freedom since many have experienced themselves oppression in the past. Immigration of all peoples (many times from the most deprived places) is encouraged not just for the betterment of the individual but that of the collective, diversity of kind is seen as a way to enrich Nezquia and unite the international proletariat.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Anti-clericalism is strong in Nezquia, many catholic practitioners who support the papacy have been rejected to positions of government. A "no tolerance to intolerance" policy has walled off the careers of some political opponents deemed counterproductive to society.
  • View on immigration into country: As mentioned above immigration is encouraged, it is seen as not only a good for the individual or individuals coming but for the place they are coming to as well.
  • Women's Rights: Juridical and legal equality of women in relation to men and other genders is a primordial component of Nezquian society. It was part of the combined struggle of various groups during the revolution to emancipate themselves, thus women's struggle has many times been synonymous with the struggle for other Nezquians suffering in hands of an aristocratic and patriarchal group. It is through this that the constitution stresses the need for intersectional feminism in the system of government.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
Most drugs are decriminalized in the country, as part of the harm minimization policy by the country there is effectively no criminal punishment for possession.

Other:
  • Factbook: I don't have an iiWiki for now but I'll get to working on one after I finish this.
  • RP Preferences: Diplomatic.
  • RP Samples:
A very unimaginative RP about cassava production in Nezquia:

About 50 plants of 15 improved cassava varieties, with a high potential for performance, adaptability to weather conditions and tolerance to pests and diseases were grown in Nezquia for the purpose of expanding the availability of genetic material that allows to improve the competitiveness of this crop in the long run.

This is done within the framework of the regional cassava network, promoted by the Body of Agriculture as a safe and economic alternative. One of the chairpersons for the Body of Agriculture, said his department will provide training for producers on plant management, the increase of the seed and the agronomic management of the crop; so that producers and technicians get the most out of it: "We want our actions to have sustainability in the countries, we will not stop simply till the end of our program, therefore the support of the farmers' worldwide is vital to give continuity to the actions we are taking together ”, said the minister.

A chairperson, from the Body of Science and Technology, said that once investigations of the behavior and adaptation of materials to agroecological conditions are carried out, there will be a feasible technological solution that producers can use in their farms.

"The introduction of new materials to the country is the beginning of a great project since this crop is of great importance in the diet of Nezquians because it is a source of low-cost food for health and nutrition," said the chairperson.
  • RP Intentions: World-building, I just wish to just be that one "anarchist" nation. It would be nice to collaborate with other socialist nations in diplomacy and roleplaying. Although if I'm honest my my objective is trying to get people to know about Nezquia, what it's like, all those sort of stuff.
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: None.
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): Nah.
  • Anything else?: Nah.

National information
Official Name: the United Republic of Belmonte (Lusitan: República Unida de Belmonte)
Shortened Name: Belmonte
Requested Location:
Image

Requested Population: ~28 million inhabitants
Culture: The Belmontese culture would be primarily based on the Euclean (especially Floren and Lusittan), indigenous and black cultures, as well as the miscegenation who originated from them after centuries of coexistence.
  • Ethnicity: Belmonte’s ethnic groups consist of white Euclean peoples (most of them comes from Florena and its province, Lusitana) that came during the colonization process and other immigration waves throughout future centuries; native indigenous peoples, with the overwhelming majority being either Tupi or Guarani peoples; and black peoples who came to the country through the international slave trade from the 17th and 18th centuries. However, almost half of the Belmontese population identifies themselves as mixed (or mestizo) thanks to the miscegenation process originated in the early days of colonial rule. Followed by the mixed population, whites, blacks and indigenous peoples are the biggest ethnic groups respectively.
  • Religion: Sotirianism, especially Catholicism, always played an extremely influential role in Belmontese society. The Catholic Church, through Jesuit missions and works, was responsible for the arts, culture and even education of indigenous and peasants in the 18th century, which its role being reduced only to religious affairs since then. Today, Catholicism still is an extremely important agent within politics and society, with the majority of the population identifying themselves as Catholics. However, Protestantism, especially in its evangelical form, is starting to gain more followers over the years.
  • Languages: Lusitan is the national and official language of Belmonte, with legislation allowing provinces and municipalities to recognize more languages (most of them are indigenous languages) as co-official.
Government Type: Federal parliamentary republic
Head of State: President Caetano Villa-Lobos
Head of Government: Prime Minister Rita Maurino
Requested GDP Per Capita: 19.368 USD
National Overview:
The United Republic of Belmonte is a sovereign nation located on the continent of Asteria Inferior, sharing borders with Nuvania and Vilcasuamanas to the west and Satucin to the north. It’s considered to be a relatively stable country both politically and economically, with its population enjoying a good quality of life and having high civil and political freedoms. According to the Constitution of 1836, Belmonte is a federal parliamentary republic, where the President of the Republic (Presidente da República) is the head of state and the Prime Minister (Primeiro-ministro) is the head of government. The President is only a ceremonial figurehead elected by the legislature to a mandate of 10 years, whose duty is to formally appoint the new government and its cabinet as well as convoke and suspend the Congress, with all executive power being held by the Prime Minister. The country is divided between 7 provinces (províncias) which enjoys a high degree of autonomy.

The national legislature is vested on the National Congress (Congresso Nacional), a bicameral parliament composed by the Public Assembly (Assembléia Pública) and Senate (Senado). The Public Assembly is the lower house of the parliament, with its members (called Deputados or MPs) being elected under universal suffrage for a five-year term. The Senate, however, has its members being appointed by the President under the consent of the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition based on the previous general election results.

Historically, Belmonte was discovered in 1503 by the explorer Duarte Bórgia, who would immediately claim the new land for the Lusitan crown. Before that, the region was widely populated by native peoples, primarily Tupis, Guaranis and Gês. The first years of colonization were characterized by little to no interest in maintaining the colony at all for a variety of reasons, the most important of all was the lack of gold and other precious minerals at large scale. Due to that, Belmonte quickly became a settler colony where only a few peasants went to the new world for better lives, establishing villages on the coast and living from fishing, farming and exchanging handcrafted goods through an internal market. This abandonment, although made Belmonte fell behind when compared to other Asterian colonies, created a sense of nationality around the image of the bandeirante and their villages, captaincies, properties and autonomy. The relationship with natives, despite being disturbing during the first years, became considerably peaceful since many colonists married and even had children with indigenous women. However, that doesn’t mean that all contact between the two peoples were necessarily amicable.

After the annexation of Lusitana by the Floren Empire, some administrative reforms took place, where more central systems were created although the Florens respected and even empowered Belmontese captaincies and the trade that happened between them to become more autonomous. After the defeat of the Floren Empire and the Treaty of Savona, Belmonte was transferred into Gaullican control under the Satucin colony. The Gaullican administration didn’t understand Belmonte’s high autonomy at the time and refused to maintain such a system, imposing a series of reforms that many viewed as authoritarian. This, combined with the fact that many colonists didn’t see the Gaullican domination of Belmonte as just, created a nationalist movement that would increase over the years. By the 1750s, after the establishment of the so-called Intolerable Taxes, independent insurgencies arose in the countryside and conspirations against the Gaullican crown made the situation chaotic and unstable, however, no major uprising happened yet.

When the news of revolts from northern Gaullican colonies reached Belmonte in 1764, the regional elites (at the time composed of literate landowners), already pursuing nationalist views based on previous insurgencies and deeply affected by the new Gaullican laws, decided in August of the same year to declare its independence, a date that is considered a national day. Under the leadership of Sebastião Mascarenhas, the Belmontese managed to organize its regional militias into a single national army against Gaullican forces, effectively taking control of the colony after a year of combat. The independence of Belmonte would be officially recognized in the Treaty of Vicalvi in 1771.

Acknowledging the infrastructure difficulties that a central or even federal government would have in a country still covered by virgin lands, with the majority of settlements being located on the coast and most of the transport being made through the use of ships, Mascarenhas, as well as landowners, farmers, merchants and intellectuals, created in 1766 the Confederal Charter, which specifies that Belmonte will become a confederation formed by seven captaincies ruled by a Captain elected through censitary vote for a mandate that could range from 4 to 6 years. These captains would vote and elect a Captain-Regent, the head of state responsible for the defence, maintenance and representation of the union worldwide.

The Confederation era saw several improvements in the fields of arts, culture and transport, as cities, villages and farms grew thanks to the international slave trade which Belmonte participated. However, in the early 19th century, the old confederal regime started to become obsolete, with many nationalists, inspired by enlightenment ideas, demanding change. This conflict would soon start the Federalist Revolt, a civil war fought between 1814 until 1817 which led to a federalist victory who soon promulgated a new constitution, created a national parliament and instituted a federal system with a strong presidency. At this time, national politics were mainly divided into two political parties: the Federalist Party and Liberal Party, with the liberals advocating a parliamentary system instead of a presidential one. Despite the new system proved to be stable in the first years, the presidency of Joaquim Ribeiro Durão became increasingly authoritarian, which led to the Belmontese Revolution in 1836. After the revolution, the current constitution was promulgated on the same year, transforming Belmonte in a federal parliamentary republic.

Military Overview: The Armed Forces of Belmonte (Forças Armadas de Belmonte) is the national military forces of Belmonte, being divided into three branches: the Army, Navy and Air Force. The President is the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and conscription is allowed per law.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Neutral. The crime of sodomy was never present in any Belmontese criminal code or constitution, and same-sex marriage was approved by the National Congress in 2016.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Neutral. All religions are protected by law.
  • General population's view on atheism: Neutral.
  • General population's view on abortion: Negative. The majority of the population is against abortion and the issue is still a taboo today, mostly because of religious reasons. Only in 2017 abortion was legalized in cases of rape or when the fetus dangers the mother’s health, with all other forms still being outlawed.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Mixed.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Despite racism, prejudice and xenophobia are common in Belmontese society, there’s no specific targeted group or ethnicity by the state through the uses of laws or other legal artifices.
  • View on immigration into country: Skeptical.
  • Women's Rights: Mixed.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are seeing as relatively positive, with Belmonte having a high alcohol consumption. Marijuana has mixed views while other drugs are seen in a very negative way.

National information
Official Name: Republic of Tusing
Shortened Name: Tusing
Requested Location: Brem's old spot
Requested Population: 78 Million
Culture: The culture of Tusing is varied across the population, but generally revolved around the principles of Kiriyambo, a socio-religious belief system which touches on all aspects of life. The different ethnic groups do their own thing and its generally quite similar to RL until I get the Kiriyambo stuff sorted out but that'll be some kinda Confucianism thing.
  • Ethnicity: !Puroik, !Hmong, Xiaodongese and other minorities present
  • Religion: Kiriyambo, which is often considered to be a part of the Satyist sphere, is the dominant religion. However, there do exist minorities who follow neighbouring religions.
  • Languages: Puroik and Hmong are equally recognised as official languages, Xiaodongese not recognised but widely spoken.
Government Type: Dominant party military backed republic with a Belgium style federal system, firmly under Xiaodongese influence
Head of State: Mia Chunkya
Head of Government: Meiji Merek
Requested GDP Per Capita: 3,762 (Nominal), 12,871 (PPP)
National Overview: The Republic of Tusing (Mijekbi: តុសិន្គ្ត ន្យន្គ្មិជេក្ Tusingto Nyangmijek, Hua: កោ ភេ ន្តៅ តុសិន្គ្ Koom phej ntawm Tusivng), commonly known as Tusing, is a sovereign state in Coius. It shares land borders with Ajahadya to the north, Kituk to the northwest, Phula to the west, Xiaodong to the south, and Baekjong to the east. It is entirely landlocked. As of 2017, Tusing's population was approximately 78 million. Its capital city is Mingdak, which is also the largest city in the country.

Continuous habitation within the area of modern Tusing began in the neolithic era, with the Nte city-state culture being the first emergence of what is commonly considered to be a proto-Hua ethnic group in the Miatsua valley in approximately 3000 BCE. The first of the proto-Mijekbi arrived in the ninth century BCE, settling among the Hua states through a mixture of peaceful settlement and violent conquest. They established their own small states within the fertile valleys, expanding towards the mountainous regions. These states would eventually flourish in the Thousand-Flower Epoch of the fifth century BCE, where the various city-states of the Miatsua valley became a fertile crossroads of Xiaodongese, Phulan and Hyndanan philosophical traditions. Different schools of thought emerged, with a great plurality of acceptance. However, this era was ended around the middle of the third century BCE with the ascension of Keikeige as a local power. Keikeige, the patron state of the Kiriyambo school, overpowered its neighbours and became the hegemon of the Miatsua region. Under Keikeige, Kiriyambo quickly grew to be the dominant influence in religious and political life, while the united nature of the region permitted the growth of agriculture and population. Tusing fell under the control of the first Phuli empire in 102 BCE, it would remain more or less affiliated with Phula for the next few centuries. During the medieval era, Tusing was regarded as a border state between Hyndana and the successive Tao and Jiao dynasties. While these states often claimed the Miatsua valley, their control was largely nominal and while cultural influences were seen in this period Tusing is widely considered to have developed independently. This status quo of de-facto independence ended in 1880, when the Holy Xiaodongese Empire claimed their rights over Tusing and crushed their resistance in several battles. Despite the presence of a developed Tusingese national identity, independence would wait until the Great War when the Tusingese National Liberation Organisation launched a guerilla uprising against Xiaodongese rule. While the uprising was not able to fully liberate the nation, Tusingese independence was granted by the Treaty of Keisi. Tusing soon developed itself to be an open democratic state, with an open economy and a non-partisan foreign policy which was guaranteed with their independence deal. Tusing would eventually form a defensive pact with COMSED, becoming an economic partner to the organisation. Despite this, trade relations with Xiaodong grew, resulting in a thaw of relations in 1985 following market reforms, and Xiaodong soon became highly influential in Tusingese politics. In 2003, a political crisis resulting from corruption allegations led to a hung parliament, with a military coup resulting from the chaos. The coup brought stability, but resulted in crackdowns on the democratic system and closer ties with Xiaodong. In 2010, Tusing dissolved its defensive treaty with COMSED and joined the IFDS.

In the modern day, Tusing is widely regarded as a puppet state of Xiaodong. Its government is dominated by the Tusingese Fatherland Society, who are highly linked to the military and have strong ties to Xiaodong. Political freedoms have been scaled back dramatically in recent years, with several widely criticised cases of journalists being imprisoned and opposition political parties disbanded. Economically, Tusing is a developing nation, but is dependent on Xiaodong for the majority of its exports and imports. Corruption has grown in recent years.

Military Overview: Just think a modern-day eastern bloc state but for Xiao, in that the military just uses Xiao surplus equipment. Doctrines and roles are firmly based around national defence and supporting Xiaodong and Ajahadya in a potential war against COMSED, with very little force projection capabilities.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: More or less accepted by the general population, though gay marriage is not recognised.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Not necessarily hostile, but religions such as Irfan and Sotirianty are distrusted.
  • General population's view on atheism: Atheism as a philosophical school has roots in the country and is therefore accepted, however Euclean style "New Atheism" is seen as needlessly abrasive
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is illegal outside of the first trimester and highly regulated within it
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Badawiyans and Bahians are often mistreated and face racism, while in rural areas and among the older generations there is hatred of Xiaodongese people.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: People with mental problems face widespread discrimination
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration into Tusing is highly controlled on a points based system, with immigrants expected to follow Tusingese cultural values.
  • Women's Rights: while by no means equal, the situation isn't too bad. Main issues spread from pay discrimination.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
Alcohol and tobacco are widespread, while other drugs are illegal but their consumption is not unheard of

Other:
  • Factbook: will make
  • RP Preferences: any really

National information
Official Name: The Sublime Principality of Loara
Shortened Name: Loara
Requested Location:
Image
Requested Population: ~24,000,000
Culture: Loara is a rough combination of Central Asian steppe peoples, the Bedouins of the Arabian Peninsula, and the Finnic cultures. Part of what this means is that there is an inherent split between the developed coastline, which is able to benefit financially and culturally from its strategically advantageous location, and the less developed interior. The other part is that it is a country constantly dealing with the implications of forming a nation out of a sedentary coastal civilization based upon trade and the traditional pastoralism of semi-nomadic clans.
  • Ethnicity: The primary ethnic group is the Loarnõ (Loarna), who make up a significant majority of the country's population (roughly 72%). The major minority group are their distant relatives, the Heõdzlja (Eodla) who live primarily in the more arid highlands of the country (roughly 16%). Other than the linguistic divergence between the two, they are also distinguished culturally. The Eodla have been pastoralists from the first accounts of their presence in the region through to the last hundred years. Only recently, with the systematic elimination of their traditional society, has there been a shift away from traditional ways of living. As one might expect, this forms a significant part of the ethnic and civil tension faced by the country. There are also significant Badawiyan, Ammonite, and Toubou minorities along the country's southern border. These minorities collectively make up 10% of the population.
  • Religion:
    • 67% Tiuvsiõ/Tiuvhaõ ("The Eight Precepts") - The state religion of Loara, it has its origins in the ninth century. It is a polytheistic religion which emphasizes civic duty, martial valor, and the eternal cycle of creation and destruction. It is very closely related to Loaran Folk Religion.
    • 11% Irfan - Primarily of the Asha variety, the teachings of Irfan were passed into Loara due to its position along coastal and inland trade routes. However, it never acquired the popularity that it did among other cultures in the region due to the rise of Tiuvsiõ.
    • 9% Loaran Folk Religion - Focused heavily on the concept of 'nlurë' (Loaran) or 'oljusi' (Eodlan), which very imperfectly translates as 'eternally perfect sublimity,' the ancient religion of Loara shares its pantheon with Tiuvsiõ, but lacks the clear moral legalism of its sister religion. Beliefs include folk magic, djinn, and reverence for water as the source of life.
    • 6% Atudite - Almost exclusively the religion of those of Ammonite descent.
    • 5% Irreligious - In an otherwise intensely religious country, especially one in which religion and community life are fundamentally interconnected, those who profess no religion are often discriminated against. However, one might suspect that there are actually many people who profess belief in either Folk Religion or Tiuvsiõ who are not especially ardent or active believers.
    • 2% Others - Frequently non-natives or the descendants of such, they follow religions which are not endemic to Loara other than Irfan.
  • Languages: There are two main languages in Loara. These together make up the Loajo-Tseotsi Language Family (which takes its name from the reconstructed autonyms of the Proto-Loarna and Proto-Eodla peoples. Ninety-two percent of the population speak Loaran, which is the hereditary language of the Loarna. This includes a significant portion of the Eodla population. Generally, people of Eodla descent who speak Loaran are bilingual, though there has been a recent trend of those born in majority-Loaran urban centers losing the ability to speak their ancestral tongue. Fourteen percent speak Eodlan. Roughly five percent of the population speak one of Badawiyan (mainly the Phoenician dialect), Ammonite, or Teda, frequently in conjunction Loaran.
Government Type: Unitary Dominant-Party Parliamentary Tiuvsic Constitutional Monarchy
Head of State: His Highness, the Most Sublime and Abiding Prince of Loara, Gharat II Eduatnõl
Head of Government: His Excellency, the President of the Princely Council, Ozu Halrõl Alfvim
Requested GDP Per Capita: (2019 estimates) PPP: 34,000 / Nominal: 21,000

National Overview: The modern state of Loara, though it claims an unbroken thousand years of continued rule, is mostly a creation of the last two hundred years. This gives Loara a distinctly dualist character--it is both an old country, ruled by old ideas, and a new country, formed out of nothing. Paired with its similarly contradictory national character, which aims to unify a modern, settled modernity with the pastoralism of its ancestors, a basic image of the cultural foundation upon which the country's society is built becomes apparent. That is, that Loara is a country plagued by both the crises of its traditionalist past, which it remains beholden to for historical and cultural reasons, and its reformist present, which aims to establish order within a constructed nation-state.

The only prior known government which united the coastal Loarna lasted from 1272 to 1339, a measly sixty-seven years. While period chronicles reference the perennial tendency of the region's clans to unite against external threats, the political landscape was highly fragmented prior to the second half of the thirteenth century. Generally, each town or city would be under the rule of an elected prince, who would possess only an allegiance to his clan and would otherwise be totally independent. Loose alliances managed to establish a balance of power between the smaller, weaker princes and the larger, more powerful ones. The result was an intensely decentralized society, if society is even the most accurate term. It would be better to refer to the Loarna at this point as a mutually-intelligible linguistic continuum comprising dozens of distinct and otherwise separate societies.

The major shift which produced this first unified government was the Eodla Conquest. A moderately-sized northern Eodla clan, boxed out of significant pastoral expansion by its larger rivals to the south. Over a period of fifty years, they overwhelmed the divided Loarna and by 972 had united the entire region. Crucially, this established a sphere of control which never extended into the Eodla Highlands, nor did it establish any kind of national unity between the Loarna and Eodla, who remained almost entirely separate when it came to managing their affairs. With that said, a unified government did help to create the modern version of Tiuvsiõ and provide the religion with its first truly centralized leadership.

By the time that the Eodla Khaganate (placeholder name) collapsed, it had already made its two most crucial contributions to Loarna life: the creation of a common identity and the transformation of the elected principalities into hereditary states. These hereditary states generally mimicked the divisions of the pre-Eodlan period. This established an arrangement which was surprisingly long-lasting. The hereditary princes formed a loose alliance, effectively bringing an end to major internal fighting. This alliance--or federation, as some historians have called it--lasted until the beginning of the nineteenth century, when under foreign pressure, it collapsed. This began a series of wars which lasted for thirty-three years, during which a number of different princes came to dominate the region. The most successful of these, however, and the one to finally secure control in 1843, was the Prince of Alna. Upon uniting the Loarna, he was declared the ruler of the Sublime Principality of Loara, making him the first Loarna ruler of a united Loarna state.

By the end of the century, the Principality had subjugated the territories of the Eodla clans. This was the beginning of a number of cultural disputes which continue to this day. But it was also marked the beginning of the modern state of Loara. Over the twentieth century, the country's economy would shift from traditional textile manufacturing to natural resource extraction, manufacturing, and international finance. These changes were accompanied by political reforms, including the transition from absolute monarchy to a parliamentary system, the gradual extension of universal suffrage, and improved civil rights, although there are still numerous problems related to political life.

In the twenty-first century, the country faces an increasingly tense domestic situation. Divided religiously, ethnically, and linguistically, the country faces a constant struggle to meet both the demands of the contemporary world and its own authenticity to the historical past. These problems are exacerbated by the strong grip of the Democratic Conservative and Independent Party, which regularly captures over sixty percent of the vote in national elections. The DCIP has held a majority in the National Assembly for twenty-eight of the last thirty years and is often criticized by its rivals of using voter suppression tactics, targeting opposition journalists, and encouraging the destruction of Eodla culture.

Military Overview: There is mandatory conscription for men in Loara, which lasts for two years between the ages of eighteen and twenty. This results in Loara possessing a decently large military of ~415,000 active members, with ~400,000 reservists. While the policy of the DCIP is officially armed neutrality, the Loaran Armed Forces have operated in conjunction with other national authorities as part of peacekeeping efforts. Loara possesses no aircraft carriers or WMBs. In terms of expenditures, 2.1% of GDP is spent on defense.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: In line with the traditional laws of Tiuvsiõ, most of the population do not accept LGBT+ people, as they perceive of them as living in violation of dutiful life. However, there are significant reform movements, mainly affiliated with theological scholars at the country's universities, who suggest that faithful life requires that they are accepted and supported as members of the community.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Other religions are usually seen with skepticism, especially if they are not native to the region. Tiuvsiõ is a universalizing religion, so it rejects Folk Religion as well, though their shared pantheon has led to a general policy of acceptance and unclear attitudes on the ground.
  • General population's view on atheism: As previously mentioned, atheism is often rejected due to religion's status as synonymous with the community. Atheists are viewed with nearly as much suspicion as practitioners of foreign religions.
  • General population's view on abortion: Because of one's creative duty as a mother or father, abortion is considered an act against the community. In other words, the problem is not necessarily that Loarans understand a human being to have been killed, but rather that the mother and father have abandoned their responsibility. For this reason, abortion is illegal.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): The Loarna frequently treat the Eodla as second-class citizens because of their rural lifestyle and status as a minority. However, this treatment is still better than the treatment of foreigners, who receive no political rights unless they marry a Loarna person (an option only available to foreign-born women) or serve in the military after having professed an eternal attachment to the Eight Precepts.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: The most significant prejudice in Loara is again the tendency to demonize outsiders. This has the highly unfortunate tendency to manifest itself as a kind of xenophobia, especially in local politics.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration into Loara is highly unpopular due to the reasons mentioned above. Because civic duty is rooted in the family group, immigration laws often require the unconditional support of an endemic clan before one is allowed to emigrate. Refugees are especially disliked.
  • Women's Rights: From an outsider's perspective, women possess few rights in Loara. With a religion which emphasizes traditionally 'masculine' qualities, it is perhaps unsurprising that women are afforded relatively few rights. For instance, while polygyny (one of the more controversial practices of the society) is allowed, women may only take one husband. Similarly, they are forbidden from serving in the military or certain public offices. However, they do possess basic civil and political rights, such as the right to vote, business and land ownership, and the ability to divorce their husbands.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco, alcohol, and cannabis are all legal and regulated by the government. Most aggressive mind-altering substances are illegal because of a combination of practical concerns and religious injunctions against any behavior which might alienate one from the community.

Other:
  • Factbook: I don't have one yet, but I'm hoping to get to work on one soon.
  • RP Preferences: Political, character-driven, religious, sports. I tend not to enjoy military or diplomatic RP very much, though obviously those occasionally overlap with my other interests.
  • RP Samples: These are old (from the last time I was active on NS, 5+ years ago) and my quality of writing and RP have improved significantly since then, but they are the most recent examples which I feel comfortable sharing. One, two, three.
  • RP Intentions: I'd mainly like to use Loara as a base for worldbuilding, hopefully in conjunction with others.
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Formerly Sanpol, formerly formerly Boriem.
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): None.
  • Anything else?: I'm eager to get back into nation RP and worldbuilding. I would especially like to be placed somewhere near active RPers, so that there will be some opportunities for collaboration. If that means another location would be better, I would be fine with being relocated.

National information
Official Name: Kingdom Of Epavenia
Shortened Name: Epavenia
Requested Location:
Image

Requested Population: 23 Million
Culture: The Epavenian Language is heavily inspired by Romanian, Latin & Greek. Primary inspiration would have to be Greek. Epavenian Culture is lightly inspired by Ancient & Byzantine-Greek culture but is distinct in many areas in order to work better with what I have planned for worldbuilding with the nation. Small things such as views on philosophy and war, to larger changes such as mythology and importance of religion in daily life.
  • Ethnicity: 89% Epavenian | ~7% Lonilini (Native group I will further work on later) | 4% Other
  • Religion: 69% Galanist nice | 9% Sykian | 6% Other | 16% Irreligious/Agnostic
  • Languages: 99% of the population speaks Epavenian, with it being the native language for about 94%. The Lonilini language still remains with 2% of the population being native speaking. 4% of the population have another first language.
Government Type: Constitutional Monarchy. The Council is formed by Ministers of each county, who are elected by popular vote using the Alternative Voting System. The reigning Monarch reserves the right to dismiss the Council at their discretion.
Head of State: Queen Lydia IV
Head of Government: Council Chancellor Lysander Konstanus
Requested GDP Per Capita: $36,000
National Overview:
The Duchy (Later Kingdom) Of Epavenia was formed in 529 CE, after the ruler of the Lonilini Tribes swore fealty to Count Cosmis of Therion following the end of the Epavenian unification wars. This saw Therion slowly integrate other Epavenian counties into a single nation. Once the Lonili tribes were subjecated, Cosmis proclaimed the Duchy of Epavenia to ensure continued stability of his newly carved out domain. The reign of Duchess Agne 'The wise' and her successor King Perro saw the Duchy increase in size and Perro proclaimed his self a king.

In 1604, the Council was founded after the brutal Epavenian Civil war, in which unsatisfied counts lead by future King, Luke Dimicous, saw to increase their influence in the Kingdom. Following a failed revolution by liberal & democratic groups, the council was elected by the people in order to decrease unrest. By 1927 the power of counts and dukes was reduced to a ceremonial role, however the Monarch still retains their powers defined by the 1604 'Council & Monarch Bill'.

Galanism has been the official religion of Epavenia since 1014 under the 'Religion & Temple Act' of the same year. Birthed in 822 by Basil Galanus, Galanism is a religion that preaches for tolerance of the 'blinded'. This umbrella term includes the irreligious, followers of other religions, the less fortunate and the unlucky. Followers believe in two gods, Aga the goddess of love, tolerance and unity, and Dyno the God of strength, courage and honour. Galanism is noted for its lack of creationism, it only claims that "Once before time, there were no stars nor light. There was no life nor water. Then the gods and the universe were born, as if by magic." Many credit this as the reason Galanism is widely followed by those who believe in the big bang theory or other creation stories.

Military Overview: 220,000 active personnel. Reserves are maintained by a mandatory 2-year conscription for all citizens, regardless of gender. Navy has ~100 ships with two of those being aircraft carriers. Epavenia maintains a nuclear deterrent known as 'Fork'. This consists of Two ground-based nuclear missiles and two Nuclear submarines.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Tolerant. Same-sex marriage has been legal since 1611, although it was not permitted for Royals & Council members until 1724. Transgender population may change their legal gender after two years of living openly as preferred gender since 1983. Identification (Passports, Driving License etc) have the option for an 'X' marker for gender since 1998. Some Epavenian's consider openess of sexuality and gender as taboo
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Mostly tolerant. One of the primary teachings in one of Galanist holy books, 'Istori aso Arkus', is that of tolerance to the 'blinded'. Non-religious folk and followers of other religions come under this umbrella term.
  • General population's view on atheism: See above.
  • General population's view on abortion: Controversial. Many Galanists see abortion as opposing the 'Rights of life' teaching in the 'Istori aso Arkus'. Although in recent times it has become more tolerated.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Fairly Tolerant. For the most part, there is next to none discrimination against racial minorities. Rural areas may be less accepting.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: A considerable amount of the older generation see the newer generations as soft. Epavenians in Urban environments often stereotype their rural counterparts as backwards and less intelligent.
  • View on immigration into country: Epavenia has a fairly strict immigration policy that favours educated immigrants over labour-skilled immigrants. Most Epavenians are indifferent to immigration as immigrants make up a noticeably small percentile of the population.
  • Women's Rights: Women's rights are considered important in Epavenia. With the nation's second historical leader being the legendary Duchess Agne 'The wise'. When the Council was opened to public voting in 1899, women were also given the vote. Since 1926 there have been regulations in check to ensure equal employment opportunity.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Alchohol is an important part of Epavenian culture, from wine to cider, public houses and breweries make the most of their money at 6pm-7pm. The end of the average working day. Cannabis has been legal for medicinal throughout the country's existance. Personal use however, was only legalised in 1920 after personal use was outlawed in 1872. Other recreational drugs (Cocaine, Ecstasy, Heroin ect) were outlawed in 1872. (Under the same drug reforms in which personal use for Cannabis was outlawed.)

    Prologue. September 2018.
As the late summer breeze hit Zachery, the distant humming of the hearse’s engine drew closer. Zach, accompanied by his mother and older sister, would join the hearse in its route through parts of Rochford. A small town, Rochford was a 15-minute drive from Southend-on-Sea. As Lila stepped out of the house, wrapped in a black dress, she briefly looked at her brother, forcing a smile. Zachary tried his hardest, pulling an almost unnoticeable half smile. A sigh was shared between the two. Kerry, their mother stepped outside and joined the two. For the Jacobs, it was a dark moment that emphasised that things would never be the same again. The hearse quietly pulled up to the curb as the sound of wet rubber over an olden road seemed for a moment to fill the silence. Kerry opened the front passenger door as Zach opened the rear-left door for his sister. Lila nodded as if to express her thanks through head movements alone. As Zach walked around the back of the hearse, he couldn’t help but stare at his father’s coffin in the rear of the hearse. A man that had been such a major influence in Zach’s childhood had been suddenly taken from the world, Zach doubted if he had fully accepted his father’s death yet. Not a word was spoken inside or outside the vehicle, the creek of the slightly aged hearse’s door was followed by Zach’s slightly undignified entrance into his seat. The gentle hum from the engine of the hearse begun in the same second Zachery’s seatbelt clicked into place, as if the driver was waiting on an audible traffic light. As the sluggish hearse pulled away from the house, the drizzling rain began to audibly tap on the windows with raindrops effortlessly gliding down the glass. The house slowly began to fade into the thick fog and with a sharp left turn, it was gone.

National information
Official Name: The Princely Union of the Mezisian Republic or 'Канедзестфојо Савезо Мрезишоје Републико' (Kandzestfojo Savezo Mreziszoje Republiko)
Shortened Name: Mezisia or 'Мрезишија' (Mreziszija)
Requested Location:
Image
(Between Amathia and Gaulica is what I had in mind. Otherwise, the precise spot is open--well into the 'Alps' would be ideal, though!)
Requested Population: ~9,000,000
Culture: Its own subgroup of the !Slavic languages, Mezisian stands alone at the far edge of its linguistic world. Its culture, however, is one which it shares with its Western Euclean sisters. With that said, it has more obvious influences from Amathian and Gaullican culture, which are visible in both its society and language. For instance, its words for republic and state, 'републико' (republiko) and 'стат' (stat), respectively, are both loanwords from Solarian via Amathian. The latter of the two is also reflective of Gaullican influence in its definition, which has acquired a very similar meaning to the word etat. Otherwise, the culture is very reflective of its history as a mountainous !Slavic country. (Plus maybe a little bit of Switzerland, just in terms of government structure and topography.)
  • Ethnicity: The primary ethnic group is Mezisians (~90%). They are followed by Amathians (~4%), then Miruvians (~2%), and then all others (~4%).
  • Religion: The Constitution of Mezisia establishes Sotirianity as practiced by the Mezisian Episemialist Church or 'Мрезишојо Мичинојо Цреко' (Mreziszojo Miczinojo Creko) as the state religion. Indeed, most of the country considers itself Western Episemialist (~80%), followed by a minority of Solarian Catholics (~8%), mostly congregated along the border with Gaullica. Overall, religion has been on the decline in Mezisia over the last two decades and the number of irreligious (~12%) has grown substantially in that time.
  • Languages: There is only one national language, Mezisian (with a literacy rate of ~97%). In general, the small Amathian and Miruvian populations continue to use their hereditary languages, though state-sponsored education has led to declining numbers. The most common second language is Gaullican (spoken by ~24% of the population, mostly in the upper classes). The most popular script in the country is !Cyrillic, followed by Solarian, though both are recognized by the government.
Government Type: Federal parliamentary constitutional monarchy
Head of State: Feldimir II, Prince of Tihabred (Канедзе Тихабредо Фелдимир Фатераје)
Head of Government: Chancellor Anton Temenicze (Антон Темениче)
Requested GDP Per Capita: PPP: ~38,000 / Nominal: ~20,500
National Overview: The people who would come to be known as Mezisians settled in the mountainous region (!Alps?) around 700 AD, having migrated in from Western Euclea. It is generally agreed that their name is based off the Gallicanization of the term used for them by other !Slavs, who referred to the region as the "place of frost." Lacking a written language, the history of Mezisia during this period is only known by the attestation of Amathian and Gaullican sources, which are often considered to be of dubious historical accuracy. However, it is clear that the early Mezisians were known especially for their popular assemblies and lack of centralized authority.

The Sotirianization of the region occurred in piecemeal fashion, but is generally attributed to Sts Begadon and Petar (Бегадон и Петар), who together spent forty years in the 900s working to convert the villages and principalities of Mezisia. It should be noted that such decisions were not without their political motivations. Threatened by Gaullica and Amathia, it has been argued that the most likely reason for the conversion of the region to the Amathian tradition of Sotirianity was the aim of building closer relations with its southern neighbor as a bulwark against Gaullican power. After conversion and the introduction of a written alphabet, the Mezisians began to trade more extensively with their neighbors.

Indeed, by the twelfth century writing and record-keeping had developed enough for the modern reader to be able to grasp the political landscape as it existed in the Mezisian Lands. The status quo, which is reflected to a certain degree even in contemporary political subdivisions, was one in which power was split between three kinds of entities: burghs, the Church, and princes. These would generally be centered around market towns, monasteries, and country estates, though there were significant exceptions to this rule of thumb. The Prince of Tihabred, for instance, helped to develop Tihabred from a small village into a major market town. However, at this time the most important ruler was the Prince of Gestalis, though intrigues and the eventual collapse of the dynasty prevented Gestalis from unifying the Mezisians.

Throughout this time the bonds of the Mezisians were primarily built around a flexible series of treaties which existed in both formal and informal versions. These treaties and agreements resulted in a flexible confederate form of government. In times of especial crisis, the people of the confederacy (for practical purposes, limited only to those wealthy or powerful enough to abandon the harvest) would gather together in a veche (фитjи) to elect a leader and decide crucial issues. With the expansion of Gaullica into the Mezisian foothills in the 1400s(?), however, this arrangement became essentially permanent. Yet none of the Princes chosen were successful in securing permanent control for their descendants.

In 1672, this pattern changed. The Prince of Tihabred, whose territories had over the prior centuries become the preeminent center of commerce for the Mezisians, had been elected as the confederation's leader. But the truly revolutionary change he introduced was the movement of the veche from the small-but-historically-important burgh of Kreglogero to his own capital, Tihabred. This not only enabled him to remain in Tihabred while running the country's external affairs, but also ensured that in all successive elections the lower nobility of Tihabred would have more significant sway. This change was then completely secured with the successful defeat of a foreign army in 1681, which elevated Mireslof IV to the position of folk hero. The 1740s would bring the de facto end of the veche as a medium for electing the leader of the country, though the population's legal right to conduct one technically survived its disappearance.

As "Defenders of the Mezisians," however, the Princes of Tihabred were often at odds with the other members of the confederation. Much of the next hundred years was dominated in turn by a longstanding conflict between the Kanedze and the provinces, with each attempting to acquire more power for itself at the expense of the other. The Charter of 1843 is especially reflective of this, for it explicitly asserted the authority of the Nation over its member states. The Crisis of !1848, however, brought an end to the Charter and implemented the Constitution of 1849, which mostly restored the pre-1843 status quo, with the exception of a clearer separation of powers. Crucially, in exchange it formally entrenched the Kanedze of Tihabred as first-among-equals, guaranteeing succession legally to his successors.

The Constitution of 1849 would hold for many years, though by the early 1900s it was beginning to show its age. This was most apparent in the structure of the veche, which was by that point still an outdoor assembly which all major male landowners were entitled to attend, even as electoral codes had loosened substantially in the provinces. The Treaty of Czojegev transformed the veche into a representative assembly, apportioned by population. This was balanced against the provinces themselves, 2/3 of whose own assemblies were required to ratify any law passed by the (now) National Veche in Tihabred. The logistical mess which this created was immense. Suffice to say, though the Prince of Tihabred's attempt at defending the country against supporters of Gaullican and Amathian functionalism was valiant, the inability to make immediate political decisions hampered the effort and led to the collapse of the government in the Crisis of 1928(?).

Thus, 1928 ushered in the Mezisian Federation, which was a puppet state led by pro-Gaullican and pro-Amathian Mezisians. While the country's topography meant that the Mezisian Federation never totally controlled the country (indeed, the government-in-exile, led by the Prince of Tihabred, remained in Mezisia for nearly the entire war), Tihabred was only liberated toward the end of the conflict. With control reclaimed, it was imperative to begin the process of putting the country back together. This was the impetus which drove the creation of the Constitution of 1935. But many proponents of reform felt the 1935 Constitution was far too much of a compromise in favor of the Crisis of 1928's perpetrators.

One of the most controversial aspects of the Constitution was that it reaffirmed the integrity of most of the saveznigi which had supported the Federalist government. With the exception of the three princely saveznigi whose bisidi declared themselves republics (and, in one case, split the province in half), four others were allowed to retain their claims entirely. In exchange, Tihabred's faction was able to shift the balance of political power toward the national government and completely eliminate the previous arrangement of requiring the provinces to approve of legislation. This made the Kanedze of Tihabred into the de jure head of state of a parliamentary monarchy--though it kept its federal structure and traditions. Indeed, legally Tihabred is still only considered 'first-among-equals.'

Today, the direct involvement of the Prince of Tihabred is a formality, strictly limited under the Constitution of 1935, which remains in effect. Tihabred remains both the political and economic capital of the country, which is among the most politically and economically stable !Slavic states. The problems which it faces are much more akin to those faced by its neighbors like Gaullica and Amathia than they are Narodyn, for instance, involving concerns about the changing nature of the global economy and its implications for the nation-state. Domestic reforms are also a topic of major controversy in Mezisia, which has remained for most of its history a relatively conservative country--though one should note that this conservatism belongs to a specifically Mezisian tradition, built upon notions of popular consensus.

Military Overview: In 2009 the country's government, led by the Social People's Party, unsuccessfully attempted to abolish conscription. Polling conducted after their attempt revealed public support for the policy in the 60-70% range. As a result, the policy of conscription continues. All males, upon reaching the age of majority, are required to serve for one year in the Armed Forces, which totals 36,000. After serving, men remain on inactive reserve until the age of fifty, a holdover from the country's defensive history. Being centered in a relatively stable part of Euclea, Mezisia's involvement in military actions has been left mainly to peacekeeping efforts and small international cooperative actions. 1.8% of the country's GDP goes toward military spending. Mezisia possesses no WMBs.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: There is no national law on LGBT+ rights and opinions vary radically across the country. In some provinces LGBT+ people still lack the right to marry, though this has been changing gradually. In general, opinions are negative in the relatively traditionalist country, but again this is undergoing a change with urbanization and the country's cultural/social integration into Eastern Euclea.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Other forms of Sotirianity are generally accepted, though some rural populations still view Solarian Catholicism negatively, a leftover of propaganda campaigns from the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The only religion which is viewed in an especially negative light is Irfan, though it is mainly because they constitute such a small minority, almost exclusively comprised of recent immigrants.
  • General population's view on atheism: With religious participation declining, atheism is not perceived of in an especially negative light. With that said, Episemialist Sotirianity remains the state religion, with much of the population viewing atheism with suspicion.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is viewed somewhat negatively, though it remains legal up to the twelfth week of pregnancy.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Because the country is generally ethnically homogeneous and has had a history of defending itself against outside threats, there is some hostility toward foreigners, though it is not an extreme tendency. Because of Mezisia's economic and historical integration with its neighbors, opposition remains fairly mild. That is not the case for those from outside Euclea, who are often still portrayed negatively in the Mezisian media.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: No individually significant prejudices, though Coian immigrants often have an especially difficult time integrating into Mezisian society.
  • View on immigration into country: As mentioned, immigration is perceived of negatively, for social and historical reasons.
  • Women's Rights: Women possess full legal rights, comparable with Mezisian men. The only major exception is with regard to conscription, which does not effect them.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are frequently consumed in Mezisia. The legality of cannabis and other drugs vary by jurisdiction, though it is the policy of the national government that they may not be imported into the country. Even where cannabis and other drugs are legal or tolerated, the perception of their use tends to be negative.

National information
Official Name: Kingdom of Lechizna.
Shortened Name: Lechizna.
Requested Location: Here.
Requested Population: 23 516 022 (2018 Census) / 23 581 809 (Mid-2020 Estimate)
Culture: One among the East Marolevian ethno-cultural groups, the Lechizians speak an East-Marolevic language with significant influences from the Solarian, Gaullican, and Narozalican languages. Due to the country's location in central Euclea is has since it's formation as a state in 898 been a center of overland trade between Eastern and Western Euclea which had a significant impact on Lechizic culture leading to the varied and diverse nature of it's art, architecture, cuisine and music. It's history as a center of trade is contrasted by it's political and military history. Wars were frequent and as Lechizic power waned in the late 17'th century it turned from regional power to geopolitical battleground between the Gaullican and Narozalican empires. This culminated in the 1733 Partition of Lechizna, this national disaster has had a profound impact on the country, leading to a powerful cultural wave of national romanticism that is still strongly reflected in modern Lechizian culture, another cultural trait this situation helped create was the siege mentality which is part of the Lechizian mindset. Religion still plays a large part in everyday life for many Lechizian people with 92% of the population identifying as Sotirian (77% Solarian / 15% Episemialist) and 63% identify as observant worshipers, namely regularly attending the weekly sunday service.
  • Ethnicity: Centered on it's heartland, Lechizna is a highly homogenous nation with ethnic Lechizians making up around 93% of the total population. The largest minority are the Seniaks at around 3%, the remaining 4% are a mixture of Mezisians, Vedmedi and Gaullicans and various others.
  • Religion: Solarian Sotirianity is the dominant and religion and is adhered to by 77% of the total population. While it is not the official state religion it does enjoy special consideration. 15% of the people are Episemialist Sotirians making up the largest religious minority and there are a number of small minorities practicing the worship of the ancient pre-sotirian Lechizian paganism known as the Court which stand at around 3%, the remaining 5% of the population is largely Irreligious/Atheist.
  • Languages: Lechizic is spoken as a first language by the vast majority of the population and as a second language by the rest, including the national minorities because of the educational system. Ukeimic is regionally co-official as is Gaullican.
Government Type: The Kingdom of Lechizna is a Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy. According to the 1939 Constitution the monarch lost all formal executive powers, becoming a ceremonial and representative figurehead. The monarch, while explicitly referred to as the "Head of State" (Glowa Panstwa) is not even the nominal chief executive. The Constitution does however grant the person serving as king or queen regnant absolute immunity from criminal (but not civil) charges for as long as he or she remains in office. The monarch therefore cannot be prosecuted or otherwise held to account for his or her actions, both official and private, in judicial proceedings. None of the other members of the Royal Family or the employees the Royal Court enjoy similar immunity however. The country is a unitary, parliamentary representative democracy with elections every six years. Lechizna has a unicameral parliament consisting of a 461 members, the National Consulate, elected under proportional representation according to the d'Hondt method. The Minister-President has the power to freely appoint and dismiss government ministers and the power to initiate the legislative process. He has the power to stop bills using veto powers however the Presidential Veto can be overruled by a three-fifths majority vote in the Consulate. Before signing a bill into law, the Minister-President can also ask the Supreme Legal Tribunal to verify it's compliance with the Constitution. In his role as supreme representative of the Lechizian state, the Minister-President has power to ratify and nullify international agreements as well as nominate and recall ambassadors.

Head of State: His Majesty Kazimierz V August of House Wazovicz-Remilles
Head of Government: Minister-President Waclaw Laszewski
Requested GDP Per Capita: Nominal: 20 690 (2019) / PPP: 36 215 (2019)
National Overview: The land that would one day make up modern-day Lechizna has been populated by early hunter-gatherer tribes since at least 5000BCE but Lechizna's history as a singular state begins in 898CE when King Ludomir the Convert founded the royal house of Radziwill and was officially baptized as a Solarian in the town of Bilgorod by Gaullican Bishop Vauliance turning the country into a Sotirian state after having being unified by wars and dynastic marriages. However the transition was not smooth or instantaneous for the majority of the commoners and rebellions erupted regularly against both the often harsh spread of Solarian Sotirianity and the developing Feudal social structure. By the 11'th century however the Kingdom had mostly stabilized internally and King Czeslaw I "the Strong" developed Lechizian military strength and went on to wage several foreign campaigns in the north and west between 1058 and 1077. Intellectual and artistic activity was concentrated around the institutions of the Church, the courts of the King and higher nobility. Written annals began to be generated in the late 10th century and Kings such as Ludomir III and Czeslaw I were considered literate and educated. From the time when most of the ruling strata of Lechizna had been Sotirianized in the 10'th century, foreign churchmen had been arriving steadily and the culture of Medieval Lechizna was developed with significant Eastern Euclean influence as it would be until the late 11'th century until significant numbers of native clergymen appeared as a large network of monasteries, parishes and cathedral-type schools were properly established.

Social status in medieval Lechizna was firmly based on the size of land possession. Those included the lands controlled by cadet branches of House Radziwill and their rivals in the form of the great noble land owners and church parishes and the knightly class. The work force ranged from free yeomen to serfs attached to the land to slaves (mostly forced into slavery after capture in war or forced into slavery as prisoners). The upper layer of the feudal lords, the clerical elite and wealthy merchants were increasingly able to acquire economic and legal immunity which made them exempt to a significant degree from court jurisdiction and economic obligations such as taxation that had previously been imposed by the ruling monarchs. The reign of Radomil IV "the Great" who is known today for his military prowess but even more so as one of the greatest statesmen in Lechizian history. He greatly solidified the country's position internationally by a number of strategic marriages primarily with Mezisian Princely Houses and enacted several reforms that centralized the realm and dealt harshly with corruption. Radomil the Great died in 1340 at age 82 after 51 years on the throne. The 14'th century is largely remembered as a "Golden Age" in Lechizian history as the country experienced an extended period of accelerated economic development and increasing prosperity. This included further expansion and modernization of agriculture, the development and expansion of towns and their greater role in briskly growing trade as well as growth in the mining and metallurgy industries. Trade was particularly aided by significant monetary reforms implemented during the reign of Radomil the Great who also oversaw the construction of a significant number of new castles and forts around the realm. His son Aniol III was instrumental in the construction of the Pawlogrod University in 1375, the first university in Lechizna.

The 16'th century was a time of significant advancement in culture and technology and a number of Kings who focused in centralizing the state and increasing the power of the crown, however it was also turned a time of internal strife and dynastic struggle as King Zygmunt "the Old Oak" died without a legal heir which led to a series of vicious internal power-struggles and intermittent civil wars between the Houses of Zalaski and Gladkowski which lasted for three decades. Lands gained in the north and northwest during the Radomilian Era were lost during the period but largely retaken piecemeal in the latter decades of the 16'th century. The greatest architect of centralization during this time was Count Tadeusz Kaszarski a man who rose from relatively humble origins to the post of Royal Chancellor under the reign of King Mieclaw I of House Gladkowski, his reforms included an act in 1539 with established registry offices in every parish and required the local clergy to register all births, deaths and marriages in the parish. The Great !Cossack Revolt in 1637 in many ways signaled the beginning of the end for Lechizna's time as a significant regional power in Western Euclea. The rebellion destroyed much of the Pozarzecze region and spilled over into northwestern Lechizian heartland with many villages and towns along the Bzursk river being razed. The newly proclaimed !Cossack state quickly fell under rapidly expanding Narozalican influence and House Gladkowski lost much prestige at home leading to mounting unrest among the elites.

The Postowski Rebellion in 1670 ended with the fall of House Gladkowski and the rise of House Postowski to the Lechizian throne however the Postowskis were forced to give significant concessions to the higher nobility and power steadily eroded away from the throne during their reign. This sapped the realm's strength and plunged it into a state of political paralysis which lasted for decades all while its neighbors steadily grew their economies, stabilized their internal affairs, extended their borders and increased their military might. While historical relations with Gaullica had generally been positive, a Lechizna on the brink of civil war, reeling from losing territory in the recent Ten Years War and increasingly falling under Narozalican sway was a significant security risk and thus unacceptable to the Gaullican leadership. This led to the Partition of Lechizna in 1733 as what remained of the central authority was unable to stop aristocratic factions aligned with either Narozalica or Gaullica from acheiving their objectives. Most of Lechizna was conquered by Narozalica while the East was taken over by Gaullica. What followed in much of the 1730's to 1790's was a time of several significant rebellions and revolts against foreign occupation, especially in the parts of Lechizna that belonged to Narozalica where repression of Lechizian cultural and political activity was particularly harsh. Despite the political unrest experienced during the partition, Lechizna did benefit from significant industrialization and modernization in the 19th century instituted by the occupying powers which helped it develop into a more economically coherent and viable entity. This was particularly true in Eastern Lechizna which was controlled by Gaullica. As the Narozalican Empire fell into civil war an uprising broke out in Lechizna which ended with a widespread, surprisingly powerful uprising in the Lechizian heartland. It would likely have failed if not for the Gaullican government which saw in an independent Lechizna a perfect buffer against both an anti-monarchical Narozalican republic and a reconstituted Narozalican monarchy with renewed imperial ambitions.

For this reason one of the "hooks" in the agreement between the Narozalican Monarchists who supported Emperor Ivan and the Gaullican government was the formation of an independent Lechizna made up of a most of the Narozalican partition. Thus, much of the Narozalican partition was formed into an independent state 1858 as per the treaty between the Narozalican monarchists and the Gaullicans and the newborn state, while not officially part of the conflict was forced to send volunteers to fight alongside Emperor Ivan's armies, it is estimated that around 80 000 Lechizians in total fought as part of the monarchists forces in the remaining years of the war. The newly independent state went through a short period of unrest and transition as the nationalist factions that participated in the 1853 Uprising were split into royalist and republican factions which only really agreed on the general goal of independence and otherwise had many conflicting objectives. Gaullica quickly began exerting a significant level of influence over the reconstituted Lechizian state due to the very nature of it's formation and this culminated in the installation of a Gaullican prince as King of Lechizna in 1862 when the nation was officially organized as a constitutional monarchy with universal suffrage for all male citizens. The 1870's and onward also saw significant levels of modernization and industrialization take place, land reforms and a society much more built on capitalism weakened the power of the landed nobility and only the most wealthy families managed to remain and uphold the old way of life on the rural estates of the Lechizian nobility. The lesser and mid-ranking nobility was often forced to move to the industrializing cities along the Braaga and it's main tributaries where they absorbed into the educated urban upper and upper-middle classes. Millions of farmers would also move to the cities and assimilate into the industrial labor force. These shifts stimulated fresh social tensions. Urban workers bore the full range of hardships associated with early capitalism and the intensely nationalistic mentality fostered during the Partition Era day bred frictions between Lechizians and especially the Narozalican minority. However, the Narozalican Republic had not abandoned Lechizna and had extensive contact with Lechizna's Episemialist community. Influential episemialists pushed for a more pro-Narozalican direction at many times and agitated against the Gaullican-backed monarchy which led to violent clashes between Episemialist and Solarian mobs several times during the period between 1870 and 1900.

By 1900 the country had experienced great change, rapid population growth, industrialization and the rise of a comprehensive labor movement. The grievances of the lower classes had during the previous decades led to the formation of socialist and communist parties. However, economic downturns and unstable, frequently changing governments finally led to a military coup in 1916 and the installation of a Vitalist regime by General Ksawery Cebertowicz and former Pawlogrod University professor Dariusz Tyra. The new Vitalist Lechizian state became a close ally to Functionalist Gaullica and saw in mounting tensions a chance to expand into territories in Vedmed and Velzemia, some of which had at some point been under Lechizian rule during the 16'th and 17'th centuries and some had significant Lechizian populations. Lechizian troops fought throughout the Great War on the Western Front and provided significant support to the Gaullican war-effort in the West. The Lechizian state, security forces, military forces and ethnic militias committed a number of heinous atrocities during the war, mainly against Vedmedi civilians. As the fortunes of war turned against the Entente, Lechizna was occupied by Narozalican troops, for the most part, the war was over for Lechizna at that point and what remained for the Lechizians was to bury their two million dead. The war devastated the country, the Narozalicans removed much of the remaining industry and shipped it to Narozalica and then proceeded to move the Lechizian state eastward by taking the territories seized by Gaullica during the partitions and incorporating them into their new Lechizian satellite state and in turn annexed much of western Lechizna into Narozalica. Forced population exchanges and Lechizna's general confinement into it's ethnic heartland made the country one of the most homogeneous in Euclea.

Lechizna spent the years between 1935 and 1982 as a republic governed by an authoritarian regime after Narozalica dissolved the monarchy at the end of the Great War. The history of the Lechizian National Republic was characterized by constant internal struggles for political independence and better living conditions. The United Lechizna Party ruled the country as a one-party state and throughout the LNR's existence, economic hardships and social unrest were common almost in every decade. The nation was split between those who supported the party and promoted accepting and working within the current framework, those who were opposed to it and those who refused to engage in political activity. Despite this, some significant achievements were attained during the Republican Era such as rapid re-industrialization, significant urbanization of smaller and larger cities and access to services such as free and universal healthcare and university tuition becoming part of the public education system. Birth-rates were consistently high during the Republican Era and the population more than doubled between 1936 and 1982. The Second Narozalican Civil War brought with it the collapse of the Lechizian Republic in the face of widespread protests and a mutiny among the armed forces. As the LNR fell, a new government rose in it's place structured as a constitutional monarchy with the monarch acting as a ceremonial figurehead. An economic shock therapy program under the supervision of Metody Durczanski who served as the newly formed government's first Minister of Finance transformed the corporatist economy into a largely market-oriented economy and Lechizna noted high growth figures by 1990. The country did however suffer declines in social and economic standards after the fall of the LNR and engaged in a number of sporadic brushfire border-conflicts between 1982 and 1984. Large scale emigration along with rising death-rates and falling birth-rates also led to Lechizna consistently loose population for nearly two decades although that changed in 2014.

Since the late 1990's however Lechizna's economy has been widely noted to be one of the most resilient of the former Narozalican Sphere countries and is one of the fastest growing within Euclea. Having a strong domestic market, low private debt, low unemployment rate, flexible currency and not being overly dependent on a single export sector. The post-LNR administrations have largely been in favor of in cooperating economically with the Euclean Community and signed wide-scale trade agreements and economic integration deals with the EC. Since 2012 the country has been ruled by the Patriot's Dream Party, the country's leading national conservative movement with deep ties to the Lechizian Solarian Church in two consecutive supermajority governments. The PDP is a National-Conservative and Sotirian-Democratic party with strains of Political Solarianism. It advocates supporting the market economy with elements of economic interventionism and advocates for social welfare while remaining socially conservative. It is staunchly anti-Narozalican and while it advocates trade and careful cooperation with the EC it is against full EC membership as the PSP believes it would result in infringement on Lechizian sovereignty and it instead seeks to form a closer partnership with Minilov, Mezisia, Velzemia, (Whatever's south of Minilov) and some say Swetania as well in order to form a "Third Euclea" between the EC and Narozalica. The main opposition comes in the form of the Resurgence Party, a Centrist/Center-Left leaning Big-Tent party that supports Ordoliberal economic policies and full membership in the Euclean Community which they believe will provide Lechizna with a stable, dependable security guarantor and full access to a larger market for Lechizian products. The preservation of national sovereignty is any government's principal goal, a state that cannot ensure it's control over it's territory is per definition not a state and Lechizna's history has shaped the mentality of it's people and it's policymakers alike. As the Lechizna grows it seeks to align itself with a viable security partner, while steadily rising to a position where it may one day soon become a regional power in Western Euclea once more...

Military Overview: The large, unwieldy post-LNR military characterized by low-levels of training, lacking leadership, conscription and Narozalican-provided arms from the 1970's and 1980's is increasingly becoming a footnote in history. Conscription was abolished in 2012 as one of the Waleski administration's first major reforms. Since 2004 military spending has been increased from 1.6% of GDP to 1.95% in 2008 and to 3.2% in 2012 while the number of personnel reduced from a largely conscript-based force of 585 000 troops to a regular, professional force of 350 000 all branches combined. The increase in spending, abolition of conscription and reduction in numbers have served to make the Armed Forces more modern, more professional and more cost-effective. The PDP has made one of it's goals to bring the Lechizian Armed Forces truly into the 21'st century and around 30% of the yearly military budget is being spent on arms deals with both domestic and foreign defense companies.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Mildly disapproving as it is against tradition but there is little outright hostility. Same-sex relationships are legal but there are no protections offered to LGBT-people in the workplace and there are many significant social barriers for LGBT-people. There is no way of changing one's legal gender and there are currently no laws opening marriage, registered partnerships or adoption opportunities to LGBT-couples.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Other forms of sotirianity and local paganism is mostly live-and-let-live. Other faiths than this can often be seen in a slighly negative light.
  • General population's view on atheism: Split as some are indifferent and some are disapproving. Depends on which areas of the country one happens to look at.
  • General population's view on abortion: Majority is against it but abortion is legal in some circumstances. In those circumstances it is provided as part of the public healthcare system.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Split depending on the person's political and religious leanings but non-Eucleans and Narozalicans are often seen in a more negative light. Gaullicans are generelly viewed more positively.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Narozalica = Bad.
  • View on immigration into country: Varies but mostly along the lines of "Don't they have a place of their own somewhere?"
  • Women's Rights: Women have full equality under the law but there is still a notable glass-ceiling problem in a number of economic and social spheres that are seen as "no place for a woman."
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are legal and widely consumed. CBD oil is a prescription drug. Rest is illegal.

Other:
  • Factbook: Nah, but I have iiwiki experience from around two years ago.
  • RP Preferences: Diplomatic/Military/News

  • RP Intentions: Lore and Worldbuild, leaning a bit more toward Worldbuild.
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Nope.

Requested Population: 15.7 Million
Culture: Eksen culture is heavily based on Ordennyan culture with similar events and practices although with some native Asterian influences particularly in the rural provinces and some Urban areas. Eksen People also sometimes see themselves as close to Eastern Eucleans particularly Ordennya. Indigenous people often see themselves as separate from Eksen culture which has lead to numerous clashes between the two groups over time.
  • Ethnicity: 57% White
    38% Native Asterian
    3% South Coiusi
    2% Other
  • Religion: 62% Sotiranity
    31% Non-religious
    7% Other
  • Languages: Official Language(s): Ostisk, Bohane (Charrúa Language)
Government Type: Unitary Semi-Presidential Republic
Head of State: President Gunnar Syrén
Head of Government: Premier Hjalmar Gyllenhaal
Requested GDP Per Capita: $16,557
National Overview: Eksja has a diverse history spreads back since Humans first arrived in what is now the the province of Øverst Boha to the Ordennyan colonisation of the coast and the eventual claims of the interior and the Declaration of Independence and subsequent civil war.

What is now Eksja was formed settled in 1547 by Ordennyan colonialists seeking to expand Ordennya's colonial holdings. The first permanent settlement of Elskov was settled in 1552 and the Native Yaro people in the area were massacred in a battle over land. By the 1630s much of the coastal region of Eksja had been annexed by Ordennya as the colony of Södra Asteria.

In 1702 a treaty with the Bohane people allowed the integration of much of the interior as an autonomous Bohane province was ratified and the size of Southern Asteria doubled. In 1733 a Garrison of the colonial Army in the town of Alingvik attacked a Bohane settlement and massacred up to two thousand innocent civilians. The Alingvik massacre ignited a conflict between the Bohane and the Colonists ending several years later with the Colonists defeating the Bohane. The war cost the lives of 2/5 of the Bohane Population.

Several days after the beginning of the civilwar the Bohane militia’s Declared independence from Eksja and was subsequently attacked by both sides of the conflict sparking a three-way war. The civilwar entered a stalemate between the nationalist government and the Unionists. As a way to break the stalemate the Nationalists promised the reinstatement of Bohane autonomy before 1830, the Alliance between the Bohane and the nationalists began shortly after. One year and seven months later the Unionist stronghold of Ålllefteå fell to the Nationalists and the civilwar ended.

After the end of the civilwar the newly established Confederation of South Asteria lasted thirty two years before being thrown into chaos after the Bohane government, angered at the Eksjaian government disregarding their previous treaty declared the Confederation illegitimate and threatened secession if the state was not reformed. The Prime Minister, General Spjälle Hellqvist mobilised the National Army in the Bohane province to remove the Bohane government immediately. Mainly Bohane civilians took to the streets and started rioting against the Military. After seven days of rioting the army fired upon the demonstrators killing 72. Bohane militants began a guerilla war against the Confederation, whilst the uprising was put down swiftly the damage had been done and the Confederation was disbanded by Hougaard and replaced by a Unitary state.

The Commonwealth of Eksja was formally established in 1910 after the “third Constitutional Debate”. The role of Prime Minister was abolished and was replaced by a directly elected President and a Prime Minister who was appointed by the Chamber of Representatives. Velam Hellqvist, the son of Spjälle Hellqvist was the first elected President of the commonwealth in 1910 and served until 1925.

In 1927 after the outbreak of the Great War in Asteria, Eksja initially attempted to stay neutral but soon drifted towards the GA. By the summer of 1930 the country is invaded by the Entente and is Occupied swiftly. The Eksjaian resistance, bringing together Eksjaians from all provinces, proved partially effective but a feeling of distrust and unease led to a large amount of failings.

By 1934 the resistance and exiled government forces had reclaimed the capital and began pushing Satucin and Entente Forces back. Most Satucin Forces retreat from Eksja by October of that year and Victory was declared in Eksja. Upon the war’s end 110,000 Eksjaians had died.

Eksja formally joined the CoN in July of 1935 and the first Presidential election since 1925 was held. Political reforms changed the voting system and the 1935-40 Parliament was the most diverse at the time in terms of Ideologies and ethnicities.

The 40s and 50s were mostly dominated by reconstruction after the war. To quell tensions in the now separated Bohane province, a referendum on the region’s autonomy was allowed and was passed by an overwhelming majority.

At the turn of the millennium the Republic introduced a new flag to represent all Eksjaians. Replacing the old flag which was introduced after the end of the Confederation. At the 2015 Presidential Election the first Bohane President, Gunnar Syrén was elected into office.

Military Overview: The Eksjaian military mainly exists for light defensive and ceremonial purposes. The country does not possess WMB’s or Aircraft Carriers and the proportion of GDP spent on Defence is 1.4% of the annual budget. Conscription does not exist in Eksja and has only ever been implemented in times of crisis.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Civil Partnerships introduced in 2014. LGBT+ marriages are not recognised by the Eksen government and several recent attempts to recognise them have been filibustered and withdrawn. Polling suggests that a majority of Eksens are supportive of LGBT+ Marriages.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Religious Freedom is garunteed under the Eksjaian constitution; various religions exist throughout the country with some disagreements and mainly peaceful protests arising from this.
  • General population's view on atheism: Atheism is generally accepted throughout the country. Laws protecting Atheism and other religions were passed in 1992 preventing discrimination against any religious group.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is legal and regulated by the Eksen State healthcare service. Abortion was legalised in 1982 by Public Referenda. Two doctors must give approval for a Woman to have an abortion however under the guise of the Woman’s health.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Various ethnic groups have been and sometimes continue to be discriminated against by the Eksen government. Racism has often lead to large scale protests and riots across the country leading to at least a dozen deaths within the last decade.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: The largest prejudice is against the Bohane group with the majority White Eksen Population often discriminating against the group throughout the 20th century; although this has largely subsided since the new millennium it still occurs.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration is tolerated with about 80,000 People immigrating into Eksja primarily from other Asterian countries; although growing amounts of South Coiusians have immigrated into Eksja in recent years.
  • Women's Rights: Women are treated equally to men under the eyes of the law, discrimination on the basis of Sex was outlawed in the 70s along with a series of other Constitutionally binding measures to protect Woman’s rights. Women were granted the right to vote in 1925 after decades of activism and lobbying.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Smoking is banned in public places along with the consumption of Alcohol in unlicensed areas. Cannabis is legalised for Medical reasons. Marijuana and other recreational drugs such as LSD are taxed and legalised since 2018.

Former President Eva Schauman celebrates 100th Birthday
Former President Eva Schauman has celebrated her 100th birthday with her Family today. President Schauman Who was President from 1970 to 1990, who also stands as the second longest serving President in Eksen history was behind various attempts to make Eksen Society more equal, most notably the 1977 ‘Equal Genders act’ until she was ceremonially removed from Office by Parliament in 1990 after serving the maximum number of terms a President at the time could serve.

Speaking to the Republican Party Conference last year Schauman stated her disapproval of the current administration and has said that she would have gladly re-entered politics if she was younger.

President Syrén, a long time friend of Schauman visited her to mark the special day, Syrén and Schauman met at Syrén’s Inauguration Day and have since formed a close bond, both sharing a love for nature and music, Syrén invited Schauman to the Skänstrand state opera in 2018.

A recent poll puts Schauman as one of the most influential figures in modern Eksen history and a large group of under 18’s rank her as one of Eksja’s most well respected people.

Schauman puts her longevity and good health down to a Vegetarian diet and regular exercise. According to her family, they say they look forward to celebrating many more birthdays to come and call her the one of the most spectacular woman in their lives.

Halland Application

Postby Krumlau » Tue Feb 04, 2020 2:08 pm

National information
Official Name: Hallandic Commonwealth
Shortened Name: Halland / Tìr Hael
Requested Location:
Image

Requested Population: Between 60 and 70 million (Can be either more or less than that. I am willing to talk about it with the administration)
Culture:
  • Ethnicity: A mix of Anglos of Estmerian origin and Gaelics from Caldia. A minority of !dutch and !french communities also exist, as well as !Algonquians.
  • Religion: Amendist majority with catholic minority
  • Languages: Estmerish is the official language. Ghailish has co-official status in some areas of the nation. Algonquian-group languages have a minuscule ammount of speakers but are considered official in certain areas and efforts are in place to preserve them, though most speak it as a second language. French and Dutch do not enjoy any official recognition beyond being considered “notable languages of Hallandic history”, and most speak it only as a second language.
    Government Type: Unitary Parliamentary Republic
    Head of State: President
    Head of Government: Prime Minister
Requested GDP Per Capita: 50-55k ish
National Overview: Liberal democracy in northern Asteria with strong economic and diplomatic ties with Euclea. Halland has a staunch interventionist position globally, acting in coalition with its allies internationally to sponsor its interests. The nation is a prosperous node in global trade with a thriving service sector. In Asteria, together with Cassier and Nuxica it will act in opposition to the AFDC’s geopolitical interests.

Military Overview: Halland emphasizes much of its military budget (Of around 2-2.4% of GDP) in its navy and air force. The Hallandic navy is a key projection asset used extensively in the nation’s many missions abroad, with the army relying mainly on a conscripted force. Halland relies on its alliances with Nuxica and Cassier for defence of its core territory.

The nation does not have nuclear warheads, though it is considered a dormant nuclear power and employs nuclear propulsion in some vessels. It does however host Estmerish nuclear warheads in its territory.

I will still crunch the numbers in more detail later on when other more important details are dealt with - yet for a general overview the military would be similar to that of France’s.

    Social views:
    • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: In modern times LGBT rights are mainly consolidated in younger generations and in mainstream public policy and media. Gay marriage is legal and the current main topic of debate is the increase of support to transgender individuals, who despite already having institutional support in their transition, still see higher rejection by the majority of the community and suffer more discrimination.
    • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Overall liberal. The nation has since its foundation a staunch policy on freedom of religion and the majority of the nation is fairly secular. Recently, populist groups which appeal to more religious policies have regrown in popularity on rural areas. Many reject religions such as Irfanism as incompatible with their way of life.
    • General population's view on atheism: Very accepting especially in urban areas.
    • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is a divisive issue and its legalization was an extremely controversial political move which sees appeal on the nation’s supreme court to this day.
    • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): There is no state discrimination, though non-white immigrants see some discrimination from individuals. Of the main ethnic groups within the nation that aren’t migrants, the Algonquian peoples have suffered severe discrimination historically.
    • Any big prejudices in your nation: Overall, concerns and misinformation with immigrants from Coius has caused an overall prejudice of the Irfanic religion and its practitioners.
    • View on immigration into country: The state sponsors it considerably especially for qualified professionals, but certain sectors of society, both from labour movements related to the industrial working class and right wing nationalists have recently gained strength in opposing the nation’s policies. Origin plays a big role, with migrants from Euclea and Asteria Superior assimilating far more easily than individuals from Coius or even Asteria Inferior.
    • Women's Rights: Halland is notable for a strong post-modernist school of thought which has influenced a lot of the cultural view on the status of women and other social groups. Thus, Halland is one of the most progressive nations when it comes to Women’s rights.
    • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
I have yet to decide on this fully. Likely, Tobacco is legal but heavily taxed, Alcohol is legal for individuals above 18, and the policy on other drugs is most likely considered more of a medical concern than a security one. So decriminalization of consumption of even harder drugs. While Marijuana for non medical use may not yet be legal, a referendum is in place.

    Other:
    • Factbook: Still have to begin writing one.
    • RP Preferences: I’m interested in most themes, but I guess i am quite interested in military RP with a collaborative mindset.
    • RP Samples: (If not available, ask for a prompt.)
    • RP Intentions: My intention with this nation is worldbuilding and roleplaying a bridge to Euclea and Asteria mainly, with the hope of integrating the two continents historically while having an assertive position internationally and counterbalancing the AFDC in Asteria.
    • Primary/Other NS Nations: Aurega (Esquarium, F) ; Krumlau (Gaia - Still ongoing)
    • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.):
    • Anything else?:I am open to talk about adjustments to population. I believe a population range of this dimension would be adequate for the role the nation will hopefully play, but if there is any concern with it we can talk about it in discord. Additionally, the claim includes some territory from Cassier - I believe Glytter has already talked to him and the issue is already settled, but maybe just double check I suppose. Another thing that is also completely optional and can be discussed at a later point would be that due to the primarily trading and naval nature of this nation, i would be interested in one or two small oversea territories such as islands.

National information
Official Name: Republic of Canouan
Shortened Name: Canouan
Requested Location: the two islands to the southwest of Imagua
Requested Population: around 100,000-150,000
Culture: Canouan's culture generally resembles that of English-speaking Caribbean islands such as Jamaica and Grenada. Due to Canouan's history as a colony of Estmere, its culture has strong East Bahian and Arucian (Taino, Kalinago, and Arawak) influences.
  • Ethnicity: The majority of Canouan are either Bahio-Arucians (Afro-Caribbeans) or indigenous Arucians (Kalinago and Taino), with a small minority of white Eucleans.
  • Religion: Sotirianity, Voodoo, Santeria
  • Languages: Canoua (a creole similar to Jamaican Patois), Arucian Estmerish, Kalinago, Taino, and Halwaskeol (Imaguan Creole)
Government Type: unitary presidential socialist(?) republic
Head of State: Harriet Smith
Head of Government: Andrew Hudson
Requested GDP Per Capita: $33,000
National Overview: Originally inhabited by indigenous Carib, Arawak, and Taino peoples, the islands of Canouan and Karukera were first discovered by Assim Asteris in 1490. In 1520, the Kingdom of Estmere founded the settlement of St. Matthew. In the following years, many of the indigenous islanders were either killed or died of disease. By 1532, Estmere was in control of Canouan and Karukera. During the 16th and 17th centuries, Estmerish colonists founded lucrative sugarcane plantations worked by slaves from Bahia, making the colony one of the wealthiest in the world. In 1736, slaves, free people of color, and indigenous islanders launched an island-wide slave revolt. Though the revolt was defeated in 1739, it inflamed abolitionist sentiment in Estmere. In 1740, Estmere abolished slavery. The island achieved independence from Estmere following a referendum in 1940.
Military Overview: Honestly I don't think Canouan would even have a military

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Same-sex marriage is illegal, though attitudes towards LGBT+ people have improved in recent years.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Though Sotirianity is the dominant religion, a large percentage of the population follows folk traditions such as Voodoo and Santeria. Though there is some stigma attached to them, they are nonetheless considered integral to Canouan culture.
  • General population's view on atheism: Atheism is rare and regarded with suspicion.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is legal despite some controversy surrounding it.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Eucleans might face mild suspicion and there might be some prejudice against indigenous Arucians.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: As mentioned earlier, there is some prejudice against indigenous Arucians but I don't know if it would be anything major.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration is welcomed, I'm assuming that there would be a substantial Canouan diaspora in Estmere.
  • Women's Rights: Women are constitutionally guaranteed equal rights under the law and in the workplace.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: There isn't a huge stigma against alcohol, pot, or tobacco - all of which are legal. Most hard drugs are illegal and their use is discouraged.

Other:
  • Factbook: I will work on an iiwiki on Monday and update my application accordingly
  • RP Preferences: diplomatic and character-driven
  • RP Samples: this can be found on my original application
  • RP Intentions: largely world-building
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Djedet
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): no

National information
Official Name: The Kingdom of Songhong / 王國滝紅
Shortened Name: Songhong
Requested Location: Around the Former Location of Yi
Image

Requested Population: ~70 - 140 mil
Culture: East Asian / South-East Asian with Xiaodongese and Tinzan influences
  • Ethnicity: Majority Songhongese with !Thai/Laos and Tinzan peoples and a small minority of Xiaodongese among some Others.
  • Religion: Heshan (a more extreme version of Feng Shui that doesn’t involve any worship of a diety) and other nearby religions such as Satyism
  • Languages: Songhongese (Vietnamese) as well as Tinzan and Xiaodongese being spoken in their respective communities.
Government Type: Unitary Parliamentary Monarchy
Head of State: (His Majesty/King) Tuy Dan
Head of Government: (Premier) Ban Bang Sec
Requested GDP Per Capita: $30,000 - 16,000
National Overview: Songhong was first unified in 821 before which it was inhabited by various tribes. The kings of Songhong model their kingdom after Xiaodong leading to an autocratic system where convoluted government bureaucracy becomes the law of the land. Between the 1600s and the 1700s, Songhong tries to be its own independent nation but by 1762 finds itself a Xiaodongese vassal with ever-diminishing autonomy where almost all economic activity if focused around extracting resources towards Xiaodong. Before the Great War, several failed revolts take place in Songhong. It is only after the Great War that a devastated Songhong is finally freed from its vassal status. A period of economic reconstruction follows where Songhong experiences a major economic boom fueled by aid from Senria and other helping nations such as Halland. As a result, ‘an eternal gratitude’ is declared towards the aiding nations and Senria in particular. In the present, Songhong is one of the freest and most liberal nations in Coius largely as a result of this economic aid. Despite this, the Songhongese economy is slowing down as the population ages and birth rates fall. Songhong is already one of the nations with the oldest median population age.

Military Overview: Songhong's military is focused first and foremost in the country's defence with the land forces being the most focused on group. Songhong is a part of COMSED and actively participates in aiding other COMSED members militarily.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Although acceptance and understanding is notably increasing, marriage is still strictly between a man and a woman, however ‘experimenting’ before marriage is allowed in most cases.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Because Songhong’s own primary religion lacks central deities much of the populace is either atheist or practice a second religion, other religions are accepted in society.
  • General population's view on atheism: Due to Heshan’s lack of gods, many Songhongese are atheists and atheism in certain regions is widely a part of the culture.
  • General population's view on abortion:No legislation exists to prohibit abortion, however, because of the cultural importance of the family abortion is viewed as immoral.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): From cautious to accepting especially of those from nations with close ties to Songhong
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Due to its controversial history with Xiaodong, many Songhongese people view the Xiaodongese with great suspicion and even fear
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration is generally more open in Songhong due to the nation’s self-declared eternal gratitude but citizenship is only granted through marriage or parentage with the very rich being able to buy their way in.
  • Women's Rights: Good, historically women have been in leading roles as the hierarchy allows for women to attain high roles. Women are still expected to take care of children instead of pursuing their career which has led to a decline in marriages.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Certain local drugs are accepted as well as a heavy drinking culture existing with the Songhongese being some of the world’s heaviest drinkers. Pot and serious drugs such as cocaine are seen as great social evils and not belonging to Songhong.

Other:

National information
Official Name: The Commonwealth of Tuarikai (Aēi₆si₂be₅ Tua₇di₆kai₃ [aɛi˧˦si˨.be˧ tua˧˩.di˧˦.kai˩˨])
Shortened Name:Tuarikai (Tua₇di₆kai₃ [tua˧˩.di˧˦.kai˩˨])
Requested Location: https://ibb.co/pyHfHYh
Requested Population: 2.4 million? (unsure of islands’ scale, will fix later)
Culture: Real world inspiration is aesthetically mostly based on Papua-New-Guinea and Melanesian/Micronesian cultures, but in terms of cultural practice the Tuarikai are quite different.
  • Ethnicity: 97.3% Tuarikaian, 2.2% veRwizi, 0.5% other (will sort out with neighbors later if necessary). Tuarikai is generally homogeneous; cultural diffusion is very minimal due to the country’s island location and relatively unattractive economy.
  • Religion: The native Tuarikaian religion is dominant, which I will describe at a later date. A small portion of the population is agnostic.
  • Languages: Tuarikai (natively hoi₄ da₈-si₅-bā₅ [ɸoi˨˧.da˦.si˧.bɐ˧], lit. “bird-talk”), a heavily tonal Lakes Plain* language, is the sole national and official language, used in all settings. weRwizi and English are also used, but at minimal levels. (NOTE: I saw on iiWiki that other language family names are used, please let me know if there is another acceptable in-lore name for the Lakes Plain family.)
Government Type: Multi-party state
Head of State: President Deki Piho-tē
Head of Government: Prime Minister Haēiaba Sadi
Requested GDP Per Capita: (annual) $6,245
National Overview: Tuarikai is a nation consisting of 10 islands. Originally settled in the late 3rd century BC by the current Tuarikaian natives, they were culturally and linguistically similar, a major catalyst for unification in the early 1930s. (NOTE: Other history is still to be worked out in the future with regional neighbors. I will be glad to undergo any compromises or agreements about Tuarikai's history with existing neighbors. Sorry for the inconvenience.)
A peculiar Tuarikaian oi₃ hui₂ [oi˩˨.ɸui˨] (cultural taboo/societally forbidden act) is certain forms of premarital eye contact (Tuarikai: haui₆ be₅ [ɸaui˧˦.be˧], lit. “eye-fire”). People are VERY highly discouraged from making eye contact with a social superior, classmate (only during class), or non-immediate family member.
Military Overview: (I’m still deliberating the specifics, but the weaponry is comparable to that of real-world Fiji. The strength is about 350,000 total, including paramilitary and reserve.)

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: LGBT+ people are generally free of discrimination. Sexual orientation and gender identity are considered more minor aspects of one’s identity. As for gay pride, Tuarikaians are indifferent, as they don’t believe that they should be proud of something they can’t control, such as sexual orientation.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Very skeptical. The religion is deeply tied to, and often concurrent with, Tuarikaian cultural values. An offense to one is an offense to both.
  • General population's view on atheism: Also skeptical. Most associate lack of religious affiliation with a propensity to “drop out of society” or become a social recluse, or even a criminal or drug user.
  • General population's view on abortion:
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Viewed with skepticism and, rarely, hostility. Some believe the foreigners that do come to Tuarikai are being nosy and imperialistic.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Drug users and addicts are often demonized; it is a commonplace belief that it is an addict’s fault that they are addicted.
  • View on immigration into country: Not encouraged. As aforementioned, foreigners are generally viewed hostilely.
  • Women's Rights: Iffy at best. While women aren’t necessarily subjugated to subservient gender roles, they still experience stereotypes. Menstruation and women’s health are woefully lacking in education, and thus those areas are dominated by cultural stigma.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Not only are they illegal, but viewed as entirely immoral, only characterizing the lowest rungs of society.

Other:
  • Factbook: None yet, working on it!
  • RP Preferences: Character RP is preferred, if I even decide to RP at all.
  • RP Samples: A brief, out-of-context sample from an RP I’m doing with a classmate. https://textsaver.flap.tv/lists/365v If this isn’t sufficient, I will gladly complete another prompt.
  • RP Intentions: Mostly worldbuilding, but I’m a pretty good writer so I may RP
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Tuarikai is my only nation
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): Nope! :D
  • Anything else?: The capital, Isibe-tatai, is the hallmark example of a primate city, being far more developed than the rest of the country, and home to about ¼ of Tuarikaians. However, capital residents still live in somewhat poor conditions, unless they live in the central district of Isibe-tatai. More well-off citizens on the outer islands may travel there occasionally. The vast majority of citizens of Tuarikai live in small houses, while the vast majority of capital residents
live in apartments. Thus, apartments are often seen as a symbol of fleeting pleasure or luxury. ** The HDI is likely around 0.561.

National information
Official Name: Terangau, Abode of Peace
Shortened Name: Terangau (name unrelated to Dezevau, it’s just a coincidence)
Requested Location: https://iiwiki.us/mediawiki/images/2/28 ... rangau.png
Requested Population: 47,192,129
Culture: Pre-Islamic Malay/broader Indonesian. Influenced historically by Dezevau and possibly Xiaodong
  • Ethnicity: Terangauni make up the majority of the population at 91.4%. Pelangi (!Malay) are the largest minority at 6.8%. Gaullicans and other groups make up the remaining 1.8%.
  • Religion: Badi is the largest religion. Decentish minority followings of Sotirianity and Irfan
  • Languages: Standard Pali is one of two official languages (the other being Gaullican). Regional languages TBD, right now thinking at least Ziba would be some sort of constitutional recognition because of Dezevau.
Government Type: Federal elective constitutional monarchy
Head of State: Hyang di-Patuan Sanggalo
Head of Government: Premier Hengki Sumarto
Requested GDP Per Capita: $29,391
National Overview: Antiquity: possible cultural links to Dezevauni city-states. Agriculture would spread to Terangau from Dezevau and Mabifia. City-states would lead to petty kingdoms with a few managing to secure most, if not all, of the island. Middle ages antiquity polities would largely be superseded by mainland polities and Terangau would become somewhat of a backwater although still geopolitically relevant due to assumed sea trade between Xiaodong and Bahia. 15th century, a city-state manages to take over the entirety of the island, forming a Bruneian Empire type of polity that waxes and wanes until the 19th century. Like Dezevau, Terangau would gradually come under Gaullican influence and in 1899, the reigning Terangauni monarch would submit as a Gaullican protectorate. Would remain a protectorate until the end of the GW when it would be made independent as part of the peace treaties. Post-war would still have close ties with Gaullica. Cultural links to Dezevau would lead to possibly decent relations despite the latter being council communist. Not sure how it would fit into greater Coius geopol.
Military Overview: Decentish military. Relatively modern but small and meant mostly as a token self-defence force. Likely uses Gaullican and Senrian equipment.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Some prejudices against them are held by the Sotirianity and Irfan practitioners. Majority of Badi population is mostly indifferent to the entire thing. Pro-LGBT+ laws and protection against discrimination would start being a thing in the 1970s and 1980s.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Terangau is a multireligious state although clearly majority Badi. Minority religions are protected by government laws, plus the syncretic nature of Badi has made religious tension less of an issue.
  • General population's view on atheism: Mild prejudice, although most agnostic/atheists in Terangau would likely still say they’re Badi due to the cultural significance of the religion.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is generally accepted bar those who follow religions that prohibit it.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Cultural ties to Dezevauni. Debating about adding some sort of cultural introvertedness (i.e; being sort of frowned upon to marry outside of your “race”/ethnicity) but haven’t decided if it would be too jarring.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Some premodern discrimination undertones between the various Terangauni ethnic spectrum groups still exist
  • View on immigration into country: Generally viewed as okay as long as they integrate.
  • Women's Rights: Views and attitudes tend to be fairly modern/aligned with IRL western cultures.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco, alcohol, marijuana are legal. Some hallucinogens are regulated for entheogenic purposes. “Hard” drugs would be decriminalised in an effort to try to help addicts get sober.

Other:
  • Factbook: TBD
  • RP Preferences: I don’t RP

National information
Official Name: Republic of Maracao
Shortened Name: Maracao / Maração
Requested Location: Image
Requested Population: 4.9 million
Culture: Maracan culture borrows heavily from its Lusitan colonisers in Florena, with most of the island being able to trace their heritage back to a Lusitan settler at some point. Some elements of Taino culture are blended in with the colonial Lusitan culture, and the Taino language is a protected national language on the island, with all legislature and law written in the language as well as Lusitan. In recent years, Maracan culture has morphed around incumbent president Adão Costa, who has attempted to create a cult of personality in the country.
  • Ethnicity: 45.6% Euclean
    39.5% Mixed-race
    9.8% Bahian
    5.1% Other
  • Religion: 79.2% Solarian Catholic
    20.8% Other
  • Languages: Lusitan (Portuguese), Taino, some Etrurian
Government Type: Dominant-party socialist republic
Head of State: President Adão Costa
Head of Government: Prime Minister Julio Fonseca
Requested GDP Per Capita: $22,736 (PPP), $15,671 (nominal)
National Overview: The first recorded inhabitance in Maracao were the Nati peoples, a subgroup of the broader Taino peoples that inhabited the pre-colonial Arucian, around the 2nd century BC. Lusitan colonists from Florena arrived and colonised the island in the 16th century, establishing the modern-day capital, Porto Leste, in 1545. Maracao would be utilised for its profitable sugar industry and also for the export and import of slaves during the Asterian slave trade, where the native Nati peoples were treated extremely poorly by the Floren settlers. When slavery was widely abolished in 1740, the colony of Maracao suffered economically, but became popular with upper-class Florens as an Arucian retreat location. The island was forcefully annexed by Salvatore Renzi's dictatorship in Marirana, issuing the Porto Leste Declaration in 1821. Sixty years of oppressive Mariraran rule culminated in independence following its loss in the War of the Arucian in 1884, establishing the Empire of Maracao under Adelmar I. Years of squandering of wealth, decline in power, and oppression towards the lower-class populace preceded Maracao's entry into the Great War on the side of the Grand Alliance in 1926, with Marirana occupying the island fully by 1930, by which Adelmar had fled to Eldmark. A socialist revolution in 1933 ousted the Mariranan occupiers and established the modern Republic of Maracao, modelling itself off of Swetania. Democracy flourished initially but was continually undermined by corruption and scandal. In 1995, current president Adão Costa was sworn into office, and by 2000 many of the democratic institutions in the country were suspended, with the constitution itself being suspended in 2004.

Currently, Maracao rates extremely poorly in democratic indexes and is considered a military dictatorship by most, however its strategic location in the Arucian Strait often provides leverage for its continued relevance in global geopolitics. Maracao is a member of the Community of Nations and the Association for International Socialism, and is commonly subject to influence from nearby Chervolesia, whom it shares many agreements with.
Military Overview: Maracao possesses a relatively strong military for its size and location, focusing on its naval force to influence trade passing through the Arucian straits. It has a major military supplier in the likes of Chervolesia, and uses many Chervolesian-manufactured equipment. Citizens who do not attend further education (university) until 21 are required to serve 18 months in the nation's military.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Great. LGBT people enjoy generally low rates of discrimination amongst the general populace and there are no significant prejudices against them in the country, and LGBT marriage has been recognised by the government in the inaugural constitution.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: The country has a large non-Catholic minority who come from a plethora of different religions. The constitution of Maracao ensures the right to freedom of religion with the country, so there is no discrimination against them in Maracan society.
  • General population's view on atheism: Same as above.
  • General population's view on abortion: Also great, permitted in the inaugural constitution as a fundamental right of the citizen.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Owing to its large history as a multi-ethnic state, no significant prejudices against race exist in Maracao.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Non-socialist nations are the bane of its existence.
  • View on immigration into country: Positive.
  • Women's Rights: Again one of the first nations to introduce full rights for women in its inaugural constitution (modelled off of Swetania, like most of the social stances, by early revolutionaries)
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
Generally liberal, although not officially legalised by the government many police officers take no notice of the use of harmless drugs such as marijuana.

Other:

  • RP Samples: N/A
  • RP Intentions: Both
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Hytekia, Qalea (Gaia), Atresca (Aeia), Jindao, Narozalica, Garambura (Kylaris)
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): Made me cry
