National information
Official Name: Republic of Brem 大㐭民國
Shortened Name: Brem 㐭國
Requested Location: here
Requested Population: 81 million
Culture: Sichuanese/Ba-Shu culture
  • Ethnicity: !Sichuanese with pockets of Tujia, Tibetan, Naga, Assamese, etc.
  • Religion: Xiaodongese folk religions, Satyaism, shamanic/animistic religions, all given a very vague Amendist Sotirian gloss
  • Languages: Southwest Mandarin is most widely spoken
Government Type: Aristocratic republic
Head of State: Sen Cuan 孫川
Head of Government: Niu Uan 劉淵
Requested GDP Per Capita: $13,000
National Overview: Situated in a basin with a fertile river valley, Brem was historically a defensible and productive province of the Xiaodongese empires, and prior to that was inhabited by a civilization created by the !Tujia. Beginning in the late Jiao period increasingly powerful local governors asserted the region's effective independence although close relations were retained with the Xiao heartland, until it was reincorporated into a centralized Xiaodong under the Heavenly Empire. After Xiaodong lost the Great War and fell into civil war, generals with a local background redeclared independence and resisted an attempt at reannexation. The dictator Ni Xuan 李旋 implemented a reform program in the 1970s inspired by a hodgepodge of foreign ideas, among them Amendist social teachings, which has a strongly felt legacy today.

There is a diverse array of social institutions and forces wielding power in Brem, including traditional land-owning aristocrats, big tech entrepreneurs, temples and other religious institutions, secret societies, mutual aid associations, and government cadres tasked with creating special economic zones or other political experiments. Their patronage and power over the meek population overlaps and conflicts frequently, yet is also in many ways clearly delineated and distinct.

Brem is traditionally known for its spicy cuisine and sometimes beautiful women. It would historically be part of one of the trade routes linking Xiaodong to Hyndana and Zorasan, and would have played this to its advantage (even today), while accumulating appropriate cultural influences from the process. The economy is characterized by domination by SMEs, average living standards, employment of many in cottage industries, and lucrative tourism.

Brem's aesthetic is sort of 'rural/newly urbanized China' in all its absurdity
Military Overview: Relatively small but well-armed professional force supported by militias and an armed citizenry meant to deter or preempt Xiaodongese invasion, and occasionally mop up spillovers of nearby insurgencies.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Disapproval
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Indifferent
  • General population's view on atheism: Leaning negative
  • General population's view on abortion: Disapproval
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Indifferent
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Xiaodongese nouveau riche
  • View on immigration into country: Only approving of very limited, assimilation-capable talent import
  • Women's Rights: Principally respected but discrimination and prejudice is common
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Alcohol and tobacco are widely consumed while most other drugs are viewed negatively except in 'traditional uses'; nevertheless some areas have severe public addiction issues

  • Factbook: TBC
  • RP Preferences: Character, military
  • RP Samples: Greatest serial on NS
  • RP Intentions: Worldbuilding

National information
Official Name: Most Serene Republic of Baekjeong
Shortened Name: Baekjeong
Requested Location: Near Xiadong, not really tied to a specific locale
Requested Population: I’d like 70 million to 80 million
Culture: Korean, Malay, Taiwanese Aborigines
Ethnicity: Baeans, Vijayans, and Bumites are the three main groups with dozens of minor groups
Religion: Buddhism is the dominant and state religion
Languages: Baeo is the state language. Vijayan and Bumo are also spoken and have limited regional recognition.
Government Type: Constitutional Corporatist Oligarchy
Head of State: The Seonggol
Head of Government: The Jinggol
Requested GDP Per Capita: 25,000
National Overview: Ancestry is central to Baean society. Social standing is primarily determined through a semi-caste system called the Gol. A person’s Gol at birth is the average of their parents’ Gol. Gol are grouped into four groups called Mulrim. The top Mulrim is the Sarim. The Sarim are composed of nobles and royalty. The Sarim has 8 Gols. The top Gol is composed of one person, the Daughter of Heaven known as the Seonggol. It’s always the last born daughter of the prior Seonggol that inherits the position. The next Gol is the Jinggol. The Jinggol is the elected leader of the executive branch of Baekjeong. He is elected from the nobility by the commoners who are part of the various workers organizations. The next six Gols are the various nobilities of the realm. The royal family is always in the third Gold, which includes the Consort of Heaven, Princes, elder Princesses, and siblings of the Seonggol.

1st Mulrim | Sarim | Nobility

1st Gol | Seonggol
2nd Gol | Jinggol
3rd Gol | Royals and Baean Gukdongs(Grand Dukes)
4th Gol | Baean Gundongs (Lesser Dukes), Vijayan Gukdongs
5th Gol | Baean Hyeonhus (Marquess), Vijayan Gundongs, Bumite Gukdongs
6th Gol | Baean Hyeonnams (Count), Vijayan Hyeonhus, Bumite Gundongs
7th Gol | Baean Gaejas (Baron), Vijayan Hyeonnams, Bumite Hyeonhus
8th Gol | Baean Upper Gentry, Viyajan Gaejas, Bumite Hyeonnams

2nd Mulrim | Yangrim | Gentry
3rd Mulrim | Cheonrim | Commoners
4th Mulrim | Bramim | Lower Classes

In general, someone of Vijayan descent is a rank below a Baean peer and a rank above a Bumite peer. Marriage is freely allowed within your own Mulrim and with someone who is within one Gol of you. So someone who is a 9th Gol Yangrim can marry an 8th Gol Sarim. Gol both determines which jobs you can have and also can be a reward for obtaining a high position. A commoner who serves meritoriously in the tax offices may see themselves raised to the gentry as a reward. Likewise, a noble who offers valuable advice may see their Gol rise from 8th to 7th or even 6th. Generally speaking, Cheonrim and Yangrim have the greatest degree of social mobility and often freely flow between the two Mulrim.

The legislature is a tricameral body from each of the three top Mulrim called the Senate. The lower classes are not represented. The Seonggol appoints the Speaker of the Mulrim to head each of the legislature bodies, appointed from among each bodys’ ranks. The Speaker of the Cheonrim, and the Cheonrim Assembly, have the most powers, including purse. The Cheonrim are divided along labor lines, into powerful Farmer’s Granges, Automotive Unions, Teacher’s Unions, etc etc. The Sarim Council, composed of all Sarim, no longer has the power to block legislation or overturn the other bodies decisions. Rather they can delay and recommend and serve as the Jinggol’s advisors. The Yangrim Diet has the power to appoint the heads of each ministry and the ultimate right to conduct foreign affairs and war. Prior to Mediatisation, the country was a patchwork of free cities and fiefs. Fief size limits were placed on nobles, with lands over the limit seized and converted into provinces. Roughly three quarters of the land and eighty percent of the population resides in provinces. These are run by Councils drawn evenly between the two middle Mulrim, headed by the Jinggol’s Governor. On their own fiefs, nobles have quite a bit of power, albeit constrained by the constitution. Since the lower Mulrim are free to move as they please, nobles who abuse their powers often face destitution. The most common method to avoid upsetting the lower Mulrim is to create advisory councils so that their input may be felt.

Military Overview: Generally 2-3% of the GDP is spent on the military. Nobles are barred from having their own units. The army is the largest and most focused on branch. It’s somewhat light on armor, when compared to its Coian compatriots, due to the nature of Baekjeong’s geography. The army also makes heavy use of helicopters for airlift and ground attack. The air force is designed entirely for COIN and air defense. It is not expected that the air force will engage in offensive actions against other powers, but rather contest Baekjeong’s own skies. To that extent, there are no bombers in the nation’s inventory. Instead it is primarily interceptors and air superiority fighters, supported by a few multirole fighters and even fewer ground attack craft. The navy is mostly a green water affair. It has various types of destroyers, submarines, and two amphibious assault vessels. The government has been encouraging the development of domestic military industry, as well as encouraging foreign nations to license manufacture in Baekjeong. Many of the more high tech equipment must still be purchased from foreign nations.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: LGBT couples are forced to either adopt children or pay the state for a child in its care that they will 'sponsor'. Since they are not contributing to the future of the state, they must help others do so.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: State endorsed ones are allowed. Non-recognized faiths are tolerated if they stick to private worship
  • General population's view on atheism: Banned. The state religion is Buddhism, with a small set of other faiths, including Sotiranity, having official recognition.
  • General population's view on abortion: It’s considered socially akin to killing a family member, but the practice is state-sanctioned and tolerated, to an extent. Intensive pre-abortion counseling is required, as is the permission of the husband, except in cases of rape, incest, or medical emergency.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): There exists a sort of social hierarchy afforded by your race. Generally Baeans receive preferential treatment from the government, while Vijayans are left alone, and Bumites are discriminated against. In recent years there’s been a push to remove ethnic restrictions in the Gol, with several courts and even laws from the Senate which have slowly eroded the racial barriers. Natives from ethnic groups other than the three are somewhat freewheeling in terms of classification. Generally people from minority ethnic groups are classes according to the majority ethnic group they most look like. An Ogbei subject is treated akin to a Baean one, since they look alike. But their neighbors, the Aynu Soa, are treated like Bumites as they share much of the same features. Foreigners are generally treated around the middle of the pack.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: The lowest Mulrim, which is also dominated by Bumites, are viewed as lazy, dirty, and criminally-inclined.
  • View on immigration into country: It’s allowed. Encouraged for wealthy West Coians and Eucleans.
  • Women's Rights: Equal to men, but subject to gender stereotypes.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:

Tobacco: Illegal
Opiates: Medicinal
Marijuana: Religious Use
Alcohol: Legal
Mushrooms: Religious Use

Pretty much done, pending changes as advised by the LAs.

National information
Official Name: Kingdom of F̄ạ̀ngan (Anglicized Endonym) (Ratcha-anachak F̄ạ̀ngan (Latinized Endonym)/ราชอาณาจักรฝั่งะน)/Kingdom of Berseria
Shortened Name: F̄ạ̀ngan/ฝั่งะน (Endonym)/Berseria (Exonym)
Requested Location: Northern plot of these two.
Requested Population: 76,112,000
  • Ethnicity: The vast majority of the populace are of the F̄ạ̀ngi people. A very small, but economically wealthy and well-treated Gaullican minority still exists from the colonial era, while sizable groups of Bahian migrants exist, having traveled to F̄ạ̀ngan from the states to its north to work.
  • Religion: Unsure of the religious composition of the area, so I'll leave this blank.
  • Languages: The official state language, and the language of the majority of the populace, is F̄ạ̀ngi. Gaullican is taught from a young age as a second language, however, while the Bahian migrants largely retain their own languages within their small communities.
Government Type: Confederal Constitutional Monarchy, currently in a state of 'temporary' federal martial law with civilian state governance retained.
Head of State: His Royal Highness King Sanpet VIII
Head of Government: Speaker of the National Parliament of Fangan Molthisok Tansoongnen
Requested GDP Per Capita: $22,101 (PPP) (Total GDP is $1,682,151,300,000)
National Overview: F̄ạ̀ngan, better known by the Euclean name of Berseria for the Berseri Dynasty, is a developing regional power in eastern Coius, although having played a careful balancing act between the continent's more influential nations, refusing to overly pick a side. The nation's line of monarchs has ruled continuously since the 12th century, unifying previously warring states into the Berseri Empire, warring frequently with it's neighbors to the north in the Wopoto Empire and its various successor states after its collapse in 1701. First contact with Euclea proper was in 1483, but a large scale Euclean presence did not begin to appear until the 1700s, with various vassals of the Berseri Dynasty selling off trading ports and rights in exchange for Euclean arms and wealth, the Berseri Dynasty following the example of its subjects by selling trading ports to Euclean powers to ensure the dynasty retained its edge over its oft-rebellious and power-hungry nobility.

A series of proxy wars between the Gaullican-backed Berseri Dynasty and two separate noble factions, backed separately by Estmere and Werania erupted in the mid 1700s, eventually ending in the Berseri Dynasty victorious over a cowed nobility, but the economic toll of the wars and the transfer of the economic concessions formerly granted to Estmerish and Weranian companies to the Gaullican South Coius Company resulted in the Berseri Dynasty being little more than a puppet for the Gaullicans, relying on Gaullican money and arms to suppress revolts against the Dynasty to retain power.

The Great War, in some ways, sparked the dynasty's resurgence; as Gaullican forces were pulled away to other fronts, the Berseri Dynasty reclaimed power, raising its own armies and becoming a de facto independent state once more, although devolving large amounts of power down to lower levels of government to placate a growing demand for democracy from a Gaullican-educated middle class. Granted to [Insert Colonial Power] in the immediate aftermath of the war, the newly-declared Kingdom of F̄ạ̀ngan fought a brief war of independence (similar to the Netherlands in the Dutch East Indies post-WW2 IRL), modern history is TBD with the rest of Coius.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Legal, but viewed as a matter to be kept private with public displays of affection making the majority of Fangi quietly uncomfortable.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Viewed as a person's right to choose their own belief.
  • General population's view on atheism: Viewed as a person's right to choose their own belief.
  • General population's view on abortion: Legal upon request, but culturally viewed as a last resort.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Largely accepted, provided they do not flaunt their own group.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: None widespread on a national level.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigrants are accepted, as long as they integrate smoothly into society.
  • Women's Rights: Enshrined in the Constitution of the Kingdom.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Monarchy-ruled, state government-controlled sale with separately purchasable licenses, severe punishment for illegal distribution.

  • Factbook: TBD.
  • RP Preferences: Just about anything.
  • RP Samples: Pfft.
  • RP Intentions: RP and worldbuilding.
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Nope.
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.): None of relevance.
  • Anything else?: I hope this isn't a bust.

National information
Official Name: Federal Democratic Republic of Kroraine (Krorainentse Śamnäṣṣuva Miṃcuteya Cantre)
Shortened Name: Kroraine OR Shànshàn
Requested Location:

Requested Population: ~20 million

Kroraini culture is a long-running amalgamation of the ancient Hyndo-Euclean migrants who arrived some 2,000 years before present in the mountainous region between modern Xiaodong and Yi. Traditionally divided into many city-states and small kingdoms, the Krorainis have been subject to the intermittent suzerainty of the two aforementioned powers for nearly two millennia. As well as the autochthonic culture of the Kroraini people, influences from the surrounding people are heavily apparent in the manners, religion, arts, and cuisine of modern Kroraine.

  • Ethnicity: Krorainis (!=Tocharians), who may also be called Shanshanese; Xiaodongese and Yi minorities near borders
  • Religion: Nominally Satyism, but the form practised in Kroraine is deeply syncretic and blended with the autochthonic polytheistic religion. A very small minority also practice Mazdaism.
  • Languages: Kroraini (!=Tocharian-B); Xiaodongese and Yi minorities

Government Type: Federal Parliamentary Republic
Head of State: President Puñamitre Kaṣyāre
Head of Government: Prime Minister Vrauske Kunlyumeṃ
Requested GDP Per Capita: $2,842

National Overview:
Kroraine is an ancient, storied land, though only recently united under its own political will. The native people, the Krorainis, are descended from Hyndo-Euclean migrants from the north who arrived to settle the area some 2 to 3 thousand years before present, taking up residence in the mountain valleys and uplands between Yi and Xiaodong. Many centuries of living in the shadows of their neighbours have left their mark on the culture, religion, identity, and genetics of the modern Kroraini people, although their language still retains its Hyndo-Euclean character.

Save for the period between 630 and 1132, a single historical Kroraini state never existed — rather, for most of its history, Kroraine has been a handful of petty kingdoms, city states, and tribal alliances. Even into the 17th and 18th centuries, an ethnic Kroraini identity was hardly cohesive. It was only in the 19th and early 20th centuries that Kroraini nationalism welled up against the suzerainty of the Xiaodong state.

As a state, Kroraine is relatively young — only gaining its independence in 193x. Never truly united prior to that time, the nation has experienced many internal conflicts before reaching its current status as a federative parliamentary republic. Since independence, the nation has been in a constant game of catch-up with its more developed peers around an increasingly global world — abandoning its native script and Xiaodongese characters in favour of a Gaullican alphabet tweaked to better represent Kroraini in order to foster a connection with the wider world and experiencing drastic shifts in culture and general worldview. The nation is quickly urbanising but lagging in urban infrastructural development; the people are becoming increasingly restless as they move to the new cities in hope of a better life, only to find one worse than what they left on the terrace farms.

In spite of its young age, an at times turbulent political situation, and precarious economy, today's Kroraine shows promise for development — though it may need more than willpower to lift itself off the ground. It may be in the interests of the Kroraini government therefore to appeal to investors in wealthier nations to help kickstart the modernisation of the nation.

Military Overview:
Kroraine's military is small, with only about 95 thousand active personnel. Its main purpose is the defense of the state in the event of foreign insurrection. The military budget is about 1.6% of the nation's GDP.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people:
The Kroraini penal code forbids acts of homosexuality, prescribing a prison sentence of one month to less than one year, but the majority of the population are calling for reform in this regard. Still, LGBT+ people are not regarded with a great deal of respect, with many considering it "unnatural, but not criminal".
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one:
As the local religious varieties are highly syncretic anyway, other religions are not really seen as problematic unless they preach to invalidate our own.
  • General population's view on atheism:
It's considered highly unusual not to subscribe to any religion, and taboo to openly discuss atheist or antitheist topics.
  • General population's view on abortion:
Legal and not uncommon, but considered a socially taboo subject.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s):
Krorainis generally consider people who are visibly foreign to be exotic and noteworthy, but are generally very welcoming regardless.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation:
There is a widespread disillusionment with modern life and things that represent modernity among the lower classes. Specifically, rich foreigners moving to the cities often raise the ire of the common Kroraini.
  • View on immigration into country:
Generally negative; as a rule, non-native born residents of urban areas tend to be the rich who have come to "invest in" (read as exploit) Kroraini labour.
  • Women's Rights:
The traditional gender roles of Kroraini society historically were not as strict as would be expected from neighbouring cultures or from a Euclean point of view; men and women were traditionally equals in the hardships of rural life, and both polyandry and polygyny appear with equal frequency in rural communities.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs:
    • Tobacco is not widely used in Kroraine, due to the unsuitable climate for domestic production and expense of importation. Regular use of tobacco is therefore associated with wealth or foreign birth.
    • Alcohol in Kroraine traditionally consists of beers made from wheat and barley, as well as fermented rice beverages. A local culture of distilled liquors with high alcohol content simply doesn't exist and is again associated with wealth or foreignness.
    • Cannabis, while legally heavily regulated, isn't considered taboo and is widely applied for medicinal purposes. Its recreational use is traditionally associated with certain holidays, and it is generally found in an edible form by infusing into sweet beverages.
    • Ephedra, traditionally used in medicinal applications, is recently being refined into a narcotic which is plaguing the quickly growing urban areas.

The justiciar of the Korla district announced today that former Member of Parliament Baḍi Lyu, 58, would be released from federal remand centre into house arrest following an appeal by his legal representative. Lyu has been detained since 2017 on charges of corruption and solicitation of bribes equaling a total of approximately 1,000,000€ EUC.

The investigation will continue without interruption despite Lyu's release into house arrest. Lyu is believed to have solicited bribes from urban development companies in 2010 in exchange for amendments to contracts leading to a higher percentage of public transit revenue being returned to development companies, as well as the redirection of tax revenue in Korla to private shareholders.

"You've got it all wrong," said Lyu, maintaining his innocence in the face of the allegations. "I never abused my powers in such a way, and my interests have always been those of the people of Korla prefecture. The evidence will exonerate me in time, and I hope we will be able to move past this once the investigation is completed."

News of Lyu's release have already caused a great deal of distress among the taxpayers of Korla prefecture, many of whom publicly protested for the former MP's resignation when the allegations first surfaced in 2017.

"He screwed us," claims Tarma Väryaruci, a resident of west Korla district. "It's insulting that he's being released into his own home."

Lyu's home will be guarded 24-7 by a police detail, and the former MP will be required to wear an ankle monitor for the duration of his house arrest pending the end of the corruption investigation.

Shortened Name: UHR/URH, Hyndnan Union
Requested Location: Here.
Requested Population: 83,112,000
  • Ethnicity: The UHR is split between the Himavantan (:notGujurati:), Hyndi (:notHindi:) and Zudabi (:notPunjabi:) with other, smaller Hyndic minorities likely exist. Oguzbeyar (:notUzbek:) is a minority group along the border with Kituk.
  • Religion: The UHR is religiously split between Irfanic, Krishin and :notSikh:, with the government having enshrined secularism and religious freedom in the constitution to strike a balance among the groups.
  • Languages: Etrurian is the official state language, with Himavantan (:notGujurati:), Hyndi (:notHindi:) and Zudabi (:notPunjabi:) as regional languages. Sanskrit is used as an official legal language. Oguzbeycha (:notUzbek:) is prominent in the eastern areas. Other smaller linguistic minorities likely exist, but none are large enough to be officially recognised.
Government Type: Federal one-party state with limited local democracy.
Head of State: Premier of the Union Salil Balchandra
Head of Government: President of the Union Vimala Balchandra
Requested GDP Per Capita: $11,351 (Total GDP is $943,404,312,000)
National Overview: The Union of Hyndanan Republics traces its origins back to the Great War, and the Raja of Himavanta, the last independent Hyndic state. The Rajas, in the decades prior to the Great War, had played a dangerous balancing act between Gaullica and Etruria, and to a lesser degree Estmere, playing the colonial empires off against one another to retain his state's independence from all of them. The Great War ruined the careful balancing act, and although the Raja would remain neutral in the conflict itself, he would provide military assistance to anti-colonial movements in the Hyndic colonies of Etruria, forming numerous volunteer armies armed by Xiaodong to invade the Etrurian colonies.

The war ended in 1935, the Raja's attempt to crown himself Maharajah thwarted, and now with large quantities of armed and unemployed soldiers within his country. Unable to control these groups, which had only been loosely under his authority in the first place, the country was plunged into a brief and bloody civil war between the troops of the Raja and the alliance of the veterans of the Great War. The alliance prevailed, and declared the Union of Hyndanan Republics, immediately entering the Solarian War in anticipation of the absorption of the former Euclean colonies into its territory. The end of the war saw the ambitions of the UHR denied, Hyndana carved up by Eucleans instead. The UHR waged a brief war, attempting to destroy the new states, but was ultimately defeated with the support of Euclea. Since then, the UHR has, like the Rajas, conducted a balancing act between ROSPRO and COMSED, mindful of its strategic location and careful to play both sides for all it can get while committing as little as possible. Officially, the state retains an ideology of republicanism and Pan-Hyndananism, but realises the latter is not feasible anymore but still seeks to promote pan-Hyndanan cooperation despite its failure to unify the region by force shortly after its founding.
Military Overview: The Ever-Victorious Grand Army of the Republic is a large force, if one largely equipped with vast stocks of surplus weaponry from anyone willing to provide it with it. Officers are chosen for political loyalty, with NCOs being trained and given independent initiative but watched by the military police and political officers for signs of dissent. The nation, being landlocked, does not possess a navy, and the air force is much like the army, vast in quantity if poor to middling in quality.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Criminalized, but rarely enforced, and with a large lack of social acceptance among the vast majority of the populace.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Religious freedom is enshrined in the constitution with all levels of government by law being secular; other religions are viewed with a small degree of suspicion.
  • General population's view on atheism: Viewed negatively; a person without religion is regarded as a person without faith who cannot be trusted. Constitutionally protected.
  • General population's view on abortion: Illegal, with the ban being supported by the populace.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Regarded with wary suspicion, but racial violence is rare.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: None, although the ethnic splits do result in some prejudice.
  • View on immigration into country: Immigration to the UHR is limited.
  • Women's Rights: Constitutionally protected under federal law, although there are some challenges to it from conservative Irfanic groups within the populace.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are legal with restricted ages of purchase, harder drugs are banned although the punishment for possession varies from state to state but is usually heavy.

National Overview: Habasha is one of the oldest civilizations in Kylaris and Bahia, dating back to Antiquity. Unlike many other areas of Bahia, the western hinterland of Habasha, thanks to the proper terrain and weather for large-scale agriculture, saw the development of state entities that were early adopters of Sotirianism. Conflicts with the expanding Irfanic emirates on the eastern coast would isolate the kingdom until the colonial time period. In the 19th century, the coastal, eastern zones of the country became a part of the Gaullican colonial empire, whereas the nascent Habashi imperial state became the 'shadow protectorate', retaining its independence and nominal autonomy thanks to the prestige of its rules and its ability to channel Gaullican influence and act in synchrony with them.

The modernization of the country began apace in the 1940s, but it would unleash tensions that brought down the monarchy in 1952, giving way to a pseudo-socialist military regime that governed the country from 1952-56 as ethnic tensions between Mehare and Galla worsened, ultimately resulting in the 1956-59 civil war. After 1959, right-wing nationalist General Dengel came to power, instituting a Mehare chauvinistic, secular, right-wing government overthrown in 1970. The largest success for the Dengel regime was the (re-)incorporation of Irfan-majority territories to the country in 1964. After 1970, a democracy was created, and it soon came to be dominated by the DPP, a social democratic party. Beginning in the late 1970s, the DPP, making use of its large majorities, reshaped the political system to favor itself, through authoritarian practices with the excuse of implementing the party's economic and multicultural agendas. Output-wise, these have been greatly successful, as the massive economic growth, social development of the country attest to, as many Habashi technicians expect the country to become a 'developed country' by the mid-2020s.

The DPP today is a pragmatic, economically and socially somewhat liberal party that has decided that the best way to stay in power indefinitely is to maintain a somewhat rigged democratic system (there is opposition, but it's largely irrelevant, there are many rights that are more restricted that in Euclean democracies) and above all to pursue economic growth to put the past behind the party, it's all about the future and social harmony in the present.

Military Overview: The Habashi military consists of 446,844 military personnel, 129,789 of which are active. It's a professional force since 1999. In 2015, the military spending was at $28.7 billion, or 2.9% of the country's GDP. The military's domestic role is a hotly contested topic, as it has been very involved in dealing with the Medhri Bahri Insurgency since the late 60s until 2006. During that time, martial law and human rights abuses were commonplace. On the plus side, the Habashi military is probably Bahia's best-equipped and has given birth to some of the world's finest experts on counter-insurgency techniques.

Social views:
  • General population's view on LGBT+ rights/LGBT+ people: Homosexuality and homosexual activities are legal and protected. In urban Habasha, where the DPP line and social liberal views are more powerful, homosexuality is tolerated and accepted, but in the countryside, it is still subject to social ostracism, resulting in the exodus of homosexual youths to the larger cities.
  • General population's view on religions other than the primary one: Habashi Sotirians have negative perceptions of Irfan, as they closely associate it with foreign invasions, chaos and the country's decline for the better part of four centuries. The DPP actively tries to fight this perception in the name of its multicultural society, but it's ineffective.
  • General population's view on atheism: Problematic in the countryside, tolerated in middle-sized cities and fairly common in the large metropolis like Gondar.
  • General population's view on abortion: Abortion is legal, but not available on demand. Here too, the urban-rural divide is significant, with significant stigma - or worse - in the countryside and a more tolerant attitude in urban areas, nevertheless, abortion are usually kept secret from family members and friends.
  • View on other races/ethnic groups other than the primary one(s): Ethnic relations between Mehare and Mensai and Jeberti have been historically good, and remain so as they form the core of the state, relations with the Galla have become formalized, and old hatreds and prejudices are now used for in jest than for real. Views on Irfanic peoples are much less forgiving.
  • Any big prejudices in your nation: Nothing further I can think of.
  • View on immigration into country: There is little external immigration so far, but it is not problematic in urban areas, and nearly unheard of in rural areas where people would be more prejudiced.
  • Women's Rights: Habashi's successive government has fought very hard for gender equality and as such, Habashi women enjoy some of the best legal status on the world on paper, and a status that many would envy across Bahia and even some countries in Euclea. Female emancipation is understood by the DPP as a way to guarantee further liberation of talent to fuel the country's socio-economic development.
  • Views on tobacco/alcohol/pot/other drugs: Tobacco and alcohol are legal, but regulated. The increased availability of alcohol in rural areas has become a problem, and authorities are developing ways to tackle the issue.

  • Factbook:
  • RP Preferences: (What kind of RPs do you prefer? Military? Diplomatic? Character driven?)
  • RP Samples:
  • RP Intentions: Mostly world-building, news writing
  • Primary/Other NS Nations: Vetonia (Narisis), Aleramia (Aeia)
  • Any troubles with moderation? (If so, a link, please.):
  • Anything else?:
